(Old) The MMP is the place to be!

You can knock off the mountain mocking. I’ve been to Denver - I know what the Rockies look like. But these are called the Great Smoky Mountains and I didn’t name them. They are higher than sea level and not in sight of the ocean, hence my dislike. I would not choose to live thereabouts nor would I choose to vacation there, either. Those of you who like 'em can have 'em. So :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:!

I watched 2 more Deathes in Paradise. The show has become increasingly silly but I still enjoy it. We finished the latest season of Shetland, so I need to see what else BritBox has to offer. One thing I really like about the shows there - the characters all look like real people, not like very attractive people trying to ordinary… does that make sense? Not sure how else to put it.

Anyway, Roxy and Trevor will be delivered around 8 or so. I think I’ll mosey off to bed in the hopes of being rested and awake when they arrive. Nighty-night!

Oh, we snack on those.

It’s kinda “snack roulette” because … could be bacon? could be mushroom? :frowning: could be … WTF was that?

I actually pissed off one of my crew a while back, when I snagged a beautifully broiled bit of pineapple off the table that got knocked off a pizza … ah, she wanted it.
Didn’t know she had dibs.

I cried in the walk-in today.

Literally sat on a box of fucking sausage, and hoped to all hell that nobody else would come in for a second.

Not proud of that, just … exhausted.

Sometimes, it takes the right amount of care. And scritches.

One of our beloved regulars shook his wallet IN MY FACE that night and told me, “This is why I voted the way I did.”

I know, this isn’t where we put those things. But he really hurt my heart that night. Because he HURT ME by doing what he did.

And he’s gonna bitch, to my face, the next time we hafta raise prices. Again.

Happy Thorsday!

It was cold this morning when I got up, but it warmed up nicely in the afternoon.

Misiu is finally feeling better. If he wasn’t better by today, I was going to take him to the vet. I hate to take him for the fever because the vet will scold me for giving him aspirin, even though aspirin is what is recommended.

I had bought some store brand cream cheese. I had forgotten how nasty that stuff is.
It’s prefect though, for giving Misiu his pill.

I like the mountains, and the ocean, but I prefer the mountains.
Probably because there are fewer people.

Had a stupid brain moment today. I was working up my new budget and couldn’t figure out why it was so much more than last year.
I budget $X for food, and $X for meds and $X for doctors and the vet, and so on. I budget $XXX for the credit card. Only food, and meds, and doctors, and vets go on the credit card.
So I double budgeted for the stuff that goes on the card.
Felt a whole lot better after I figured out that DUH moment.

I’m not sure if it is a scam, but I am getting text messages and emails telling me I need to make an appoinment for my annual checkup. They have the correct information about my PCP, but they are not coming from her office. There is a link included, which I have no intention of clicking. I just saw my doctor in November, and I have an appointment in February, so I don’t know what kind of BS this is.

My cousin with CMT joined the Girl Scouts. I went out to the site to buy a box or two of cookies, and ended up buying seven boxes so she would make her goal.
I don’t like GS cookies. I hope my son does.

Time for the late evening final. The promised rain still hasn’t arrived, Mississippi and Tennessee (stay dry, red) are getting it now, but the Weather Wizards are still saying it’s going to hit us eventually.

Worked out the Firday shopping list, usually Friday is my big shopping day, but I want to maximize my Kroger card and if I do it tomorrow, it’ll go to January where I have already used nearly all my points. So will get just enough tomorrow and then do the Big Shopping next Friday. At least, that’s the plan for now.

Coppertone, hope the muffins were good. And hope the tinnitus stays gone!

FCM, Gotcha! :grinning: Albeit I knew you had seen a real mountain or two in your life…

Dot, enjoy the pooches and pictures are a must, if you are able. And good vibes for the interviews.

red, that is not good tidings on the job front in Mid-Tennessee; any reason for the cuts?

{{{shoe}}}

sari, I try to do a '3 month budget updated at the end of each month, and while I usually am good on the known costs, there is always the unexpected…and thanks for the warning, I suspect the Girl Sprouts will be hanging around Kroger this weekend…

Nearly 10pm, so off to do a little reading and then to slumberland.

In the mail today, I got my new state ID card, fully identifying me as a non-driving up-to-date citizen. My old driver’s tag had expired, and medical people were grumping about it.
I’m going to bed. Good night, all.

You do know that most troops have a donation box? The scouts that I buy from have a box that goes to deployed service members. Other troops may have a box to donate cookies to homeless shelters or DV shelters. If you are like me and can’t trust yourself to bring them home, or like you and not that into them, it’s a good way to support the girl scouts. Disclaimer: some of my family members on deployment have received GS cookies and say that they remind them of home. I’m glad Misiu is feeling better.

Nelson has made two trips out in his ducky slicker.

Bridgestone is consolidating operations with their Morristown plant and Nissan is cutting headcount by 25% globally. There has been talk of a merger with Honda, plus they’ve been plagued with quality, engineering and design issues in recent years.

Would prefer an Arnold Palmer, if you don’t mind. Thanks very much.

It was more or less a perfectly wonderful day.
Was half asleep half awake saying a few prayers in bed when I received a Good morning text from daughter at 6:45am. They were already on their way to our house. So, I jumped out of bed, started sheveling, and got the backdoor entrance light on (yes, was still dark when they arrived about 7:10ish) and the door open. They, daughter and Bella, went right up to bed while I cleared off and cleaned the dining room table so she would have a place to WFH when she got up. Did a few other things but don’t remember what other than finishing sheveling. Once she got up, Bella and I went for a walk in the neighborhood. I only intended to go a few blocks but Bella was very energetic, I had to racewalk to keep up with her, and I think she wanted to go down to the local golf course. I wanted to get back so we compromised and went half as far. Bella was looking at me like she needed breakfast so I started getting her kibble when daughter asked what I was doing and if Bella had not told me that she had already had breakfast before they left their house.

When we got back, Hubs was getting up so I made a sausage patty that he and Bella shared, scrambled eggs covered with cheese, mild cheddar for him, muenster and extra sharp cheddar for me, no cheese for Bella. We also had some taters left over from the crock pot dinner last night so I cut them up to about thumbnail size and fried them. Bella enjoyed her 2nd breakfast.

Then I washed dishes and daughter left for her meeting. I’ve been sworn to secrecy as to who the client is and what they want to do. Moms always are the holders of childrens’ secrets.

Bella & I left at 12:25 to get to the trailhead to meet my friend at 1pm. We arrived at 12:57 and friend did not arrive until 1:09. Bella was definitely getting antsy sitting in the car. But finally we were out and ready to get on the trail except for me sorta slipping on the icyness (is too a word). Finally we got out of the parking lot and on to the trail which has a lot of ups and downs. Normally not a problem but yesterday the snow had started to melt then overnight the melt froze over the remaining snow into ice and while Bella was able to negotiate with no problem whatsoever, friend and I were taking it very slow and having some difficulty. So, when the trail came close to the dirt road that parallels the trail, we took the road which is pretty flat. The trail is called the Lakeview Trail and the loop on the way back goes somewhat close to the lake but we opted to go around the lake along the regular roads on sidewalks. We still got a good workout.

When we got home, I made a 8x8 of refried bean, guacamole (homemade), sour cream, shredded pepper jack then popped it into oven. Called local Mexican restaurant and ordered 6 enchiladas, 3 ground beef, 3 chicken and 6 Mexican tacos, 3 pastor pork, 3 steak. Then Hubs and I went to Kroger gas and redeemed 1000 gas points to get $1 off per gallon, total of almost 29 gallons so saved almost $29. From there I went to pick up the carryout order.

Dinner was very yum, particular the pork Mexican tacos. Then I had to run to church to get recertified to bring the Holy Eucharist to homebound people aka Hubs. Did this because it was mandatory in order to continue doing this and Hubs didn’t go to church the previous 2 Sundays because he was feeling very poorly on those days.

Have since been chilling watching some tv and reading the mmp. I’m quite far behind since I didn’t go on at all during the day and was even 20 posts behind when I went to bed last night. Right now I’m up to post 180 and there are 223 posts, so 43 behind. Oh well, maybe I’ll try to catch up tomorrow

Me either!!! If I’m on vacation, I want to see the sights, hit the beach, hike or cross-country ski the trails depending on the weather, relax with a drink and a good book. Absolutely NO to shopping. I couldn’t believe the thread where people were saying that they wouldn’t pack food from home for a cabin/cottage vacation but they would go to the grocery store at that location. WHAT?!?! And waste the time you could be doing other fun things!

Read a bit more; I’m up to post 201 out of 226 so only 25 more to go in the morning. Time to hit the hay. Night all!

I’m so sorry. I feel the same way. It feels like such a betrayal.

Hugs to you and everyone who needs them.

I once had a Figaro, I sort of got him by way of a roommate abandoning him. He had a partial tail, cuz, said roommate didn’t see him knocking over a bottle of wine onto his tail. Figgie ended up with an ex.

Another good day with the museum, so that is going well.

The truck is misbehaving. The “heater” only blows on high and it doesn’t blow hot. That blows. Really hoping to not get caught in an ice storm. I replaced the stupid little relay that does the low-med values of the fan about 2 years ago, but this is apparently a known defect in Tacos. Unsure about the lack of heat, though.

@Bob_Blaylock , any thoughts on the lack of heat problem?

wwwEEEEEEEEELLLLLL if you insist…
this is Marvin, often referred to as “Marvin the menace” because of his penchant for criminal mischief and public nuisancery. He’s a shelter adoptee who, believe it or not, spent four years in the shelter because of his health problems (mainly epilepsy), his age, and because he bit anyone who tried to touch him. He is genuinely often referred to by people who took care of him as “the meanest dog I ever worked with.” He is very smart and no longer mean. He loves puzzles and tennis balls and, while he’s not always thrilled about being touched by strangers, he hasn’t bitten anyone or had any seizures in the two years I’ve had him.

This is Louise. I’ve had her and Einstein since October. Their person died suddenly and no family members were able to take them. They’re 17 (Louise) and 16 (Einstein) years old, so when the owner’s daughter called the shelter and we wouldn’t take them, I knew no other shelter would take them either. Dogs that age are not generally considered adoptable, especially as a bonded pair, and nobody wants to see old dogs die in the shelter.
Of course, when I met them and now that I know them… they’re in good health and they’re both very sprightly and alert, have no major health problems (especially now that their teeth are taken care of) and, honestly, probably would have been adoptable. Luckily for me, they’re mine-all-mine and I expect to have them for at least a few happy years!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Is it my Firday?

Price complaint line

Yay!

If they’re Thin Mints, I’ll relieve you of the burden.

To beat the earning forecast. Same thing at Brown.

This is the reason this sign exists in the apartment:

You have an ICP(Insane Chihuahua Posse)!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/43f with a predicted high of 8c/46f and cloudy. Weather app says “I wonder who stole your fucking sunshine. Wasn’t me.” I don’t know, but there’s none out there today.

Awww…poor little thing, perhaps she’s been told off in the past for doing that? I’m glad she came out and got some fussing.

Much better than just dumping a pile of cremains on the ground and hoping it doesn’t all blow back in your face! I looked at a walking stick that you could put the cremains in, every time the stick met the ground, it would puff out a little bit. That sounded like the perfect thing for my mum’s cremains, she wanted them scattered around the places she loved to go walking. I never bought one, her cremains are still in my office at home, I’m not ready to part with her.

I am on the other side of the pond, and I don’t like this timeline either. I can’t imagine how bad it must be for you, I hope there are enough people who will keep fighting the good fight.

Does little happy dance…congrats!

Good thing you had your vaccination  and got something from the doc very quickly. I hope you feel better soonest!

This would be a major consideration for us too. For years, we used catteries for our mogs but we changed to a home-based catsitter who calls in as many times a day as we want. They charge per visit so at the moment, ours get two visits a day because Shadow needs his meds twice daily. I like the idea of them being at home in comfortable, familiar surroundings too, especially now that Shadow is much older. We’d have to separate them in a cattery, he wouldn’t like being cooped up with the girlies! I think if he reached a point of needing more care, we’d have to seriously consider whether we needed to be away from home at all.

{{{{{nellie}}}}} I hope you can come back and lose yourself in the mundane for a little while. For me, it’s a little escape from the overwhelming sadness I have for all of you.

Most of my cooking is like that! Combined with “what’s left in the fridge that I need to use before next week?” and it all seems to come out ok.

That is such a lovely thing to read - perhaps they were just waiting for the Right Person to come along and love them. Best of luck with the interviews, I hope the place you really want realises that you would be perfect for them.

That is fabulous! I hope you managed to get caught up with the MMP after all that excitement.

I got home yesterday and did my chores, then fed and medicated the cats before getting my dinner. Then I went out to fetch 'im indoors back from the station. He’s been to look at a room in a shared house that he thinks will suit him, so once he moves in he’ll have somewhere to leave most of his work-related stuff (and do his laundry).

The cats were somewhat bemused by his arrival, they haven’t worked out the new routine, and they’ll be even more confused because he’s off again later today. He has a ticket to see a band down in Leicester tonight, I don’t like the band so I am not going (and I’d have to take time off work for it), which means I get a bonus bloke-free night tonight. He’ll be back some time tomorrow, and we are out again tomorrow night - I have few plans for the day besides going to the gym in the morning.

Today is going to be busy, there are only two of us in the office today, normally there’s four of us but one’s on leave and the other’s called in sick so the two of us will keep the place afloat. I’m having a discussion with the ADHD Squirrel about something that we have been asked to complete, there’s no actual process for it, and it requires approval/confirmation from external examiners who don’t get a mention on the proforma we’re expected to use. She’s just told me she needs to ask someone else because she’s lost the plot. This is the third time I’ve asked for her input on something this week, and the third time she’s passed it on.

I need more tea.

I’m wondering if the new Thin Mints Frosty by Wendys would be good.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 77 and cloudy/windy with rain expected this evenin’. While warmish, cloudy and windy is kinda ick. We shall get shorn this mornin’ and then get ourselves fed at Waffle House cause we’re all classy like that. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and then I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe and bother!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 42F and raining. Our projected high temperature is 52F, and there is a 100% chance of rain all day.

This week has been exhausting, both mentally and emotionally. I’m so tired and just so down. I know so many others feel the same.

I have nothing planned for today other than trying to get through another day of work. After work, I’ll sweep the kitchen floor and run the rollsuck throughout the house.

After I do all that, I’m just going to veg on the couch with my pups, cuddle them and Netflix, Prime, or whatever looks good.

I send my best to all of you. You’re all my little bright spot in the day and I’m thankful for you.

OK, this is a generic, non-party-specific US political complaint: WHY does campaigning begin the moment an election is over?? Yeah, I know, $$$ needs to be raised and all that crap. But honestly, it was the day after the election, and I saw a headline about who will be running for 2028, and I keep getting pop-ups from various congress-critters who are already asking for $$ for their campaigns two years hence! There should be a law (Hah - like that will happen) limiting when talk about the next election can begin.

That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

It’s been raining since last night, and we surely need it here. Not only is it melting the last of the evil white stuff, but the end of last year was well below normal for precip. On the down side, I’ll have Trevor here, and that means when he comes in from the yard, he’ll be wet at least, and potentially muddy, depending on what part of the yard he explores. Plus I need to bring in kindling and smaller branches as well as larger logs to get a fire going downstairs since I’ve got the kids, which means I need to venture out there. ick.

SIL should be dropping Roxy and Trevor off within and hour. I’ll have to pick up Tobias around 4:30-ish. And it’s laundry day. And when I go fetch Tobias, I need to run into Aldi, which is across the street from his school, so that’s convenient. Roxy and I will go before we pick up the lad. Anyway, it’ll be an interesting day, methinks. The rain could continue as late as midnight, if Accuweather is to be believed. And SIL is to pick up Trevor after he gets off work, then Daughter will fetch her spawn some time tomorrow. I need to emphasize to her that she should get here in the morning. I love my grands, but they flat wear me out.

Then after they’re gone, I need to contact SiriusXM and play the annual “I’ll drop my subscription if you don’t keep me on the low rate” game. Because if I don’t, the rate will more than double and honestly, if not for FCD wanting it while he drives, I’d drop it altogether. At least the last time I played the game, I was able to do it via chat rather than a phone call. Sometimes their reps have such heavy accents, it’s a struggle to communicate. It seems accents over the phone are more of a challenge than accents face-to-face. Anyway, I have that to look forward to.

When I was doing the pre-cruise check-in stuff, I pulled our personal papers files out and discovered we each have FOUR passports - three of which have expired, but, dang! I had no idea! I should probably take the old ones and put them into a separate file, or shred them, or something.

But not at the moment. I need to finish my surfage before Roxy gets here. So laterz!

Happy Firday!

Good morning, everyone who is here, and everyone who is not here! Good morning to everyone who isn’t sure if they’re here or not. It is a Friday, and it’s a misty 38 F outside. Some lady on the radio is talking about a balance-developing device called a mobo board. Right off the bat, it sounds like something I could not use. Twenty years ago, maybe, but not now.

It’s starting to get light outside. Have at it!

This cat gets more fussing than any we’ve had, I think. She gets middle-of-the-night scritches when I walk past her to the bathroom and back.

what a pack. their personalities just shine through in those pictures. may you have many happy and healthy years together. good luck with the interview.

kitten mitten, that was quite the day.

it is a bit rainy in philly today. we need a good rainy day to get the salt and general ickiness washed away.
