Same for me. The first night I heard about the catastrophic memo I had to calm myself with tacos and Klonopin.
I’m slightly better today.

Can I assume that they don’t have a check-in time requirement that would leave us twiddling our thumbs for a few hours? Also, do the pods stop by baggage claim/customs? That’s where we need to meet the bus to the ship.
It definitely sounds like a better option than what I was looking at. Thanks!
Terrible night last night, I think because I kinda overindulged in Diet Coke at lunch and was overly caffeinated. Well, that and fretting over current affairs. I might have gotten 4 hours of sleep, but broken up. It’s gonna be a long day.
A warmer day, tho. It’s already close to 50° and it might hit 60° this afternoon! It’ll be rainy when I have the grands on Firday, but there’s plenty for them to do in the basement. Overall, it looks like temps are creeping up for the most part.
I’m trying to figure out our trip to Cades Cove - I was talking to SIL yesterday and he assumed we were all going without him. I assumed he was coming with us. Apparently Daughter hasn’t talked to him about it. But I need to know so I can amend our reservation if necessary. If he doesn’t go, that solves the problem of Ziva and mail pickup while we’re gone.
When we went to lunch yesterday, Cathy, the Hospice nurse, came over to say hi. We haven’t seen her since MIL died, obviously. And we almost didn’t recognize her wearing non-scrubs. She was lunching with her granddaughter who’s heading to England for a year of college abroad - very exciting for her. I’d have loved such an opportunity back in the day. Anyway, a nice surprise to see Cathy again.
OK, must finish caffeination, then attack a few chores. Then, who knows.
Happy Wednesday!
Even as a child I did not think the three stooges were funny. Likewise Laurel and Hardy. Slapstick humor just did not trip my laugh-o-meter
Flyboy, prayers sent to catmom, catdad, and kitty. Poor thing.
Metal mouse, calling Dr Howard, Dr Fine, Dr Howard.
Well, that’s pretty much gonna be 2025 for a lot of folks.
Morning all. It’s currently 37F but due to get to 62F iater and still no rain (it’s due late Thursday/early Friday) so should be a pleasant day. No appointments today so my time is my own, but will probably sloth some more.
I got a set of two "portable urinals’ (commonly known as 'pee bottles) because it seemed to me I was urinating a lot recently but wanted some solid data before seeing a doctor. So far it is showing that I am drinking around 3-4 liters of fluids a day…but also have 3-4 liters heading out of me over the same period. I want to track it for a few more days, varying my water intake and maybe going one/two days with no Diet Pepsi (the horror! the horror!), but yeah, I am a little concerned; I wanted to lose weight, but not p*** it all away…
How about Buster Keaton? For my money, the greatest comic ever,
flyboy, not a prayerful sort, but good wishes and positive waves for the suffering Straight Doper.
nellie, hope the U-Haul is the harbinger of good news.
JtC, glad you enjoyed the cheese; processed American slices are about as far as I go.
Cat Glove, yay on winning the dispute, I’ve often found Credit card companies fairly reasonable on this if you have you information together, but I know others may disagree…
boo fae, ‘other people’s problems’ should be a curse word in the bureaucratic area. Hope the long soak helped.
{{{Taters}}}, just because (and extra hugs for any others facing this situation).
OK, onward into the day. Take care all.
I prefered the Marx Brothers.
i’m with baker. marx brothers not stooges. also addams family not munsters.
i’m sure there have been studies done over show preferences.
i am still binging astrid. odd tidbit, due to hearing what i read i forget that i need to read the subtitles and have to rewind. after a bit of time, i forget they are not speaking english, because i am “hearing” english. this also happened when i watched shows from israel that had yiddish.
the spoken language is just familiar enough that i forget that i have to read the subtitles. sooo weird.
happy year of the snake!
i heard fireworks last night which was a bit baffling until i remembered just a bit ago that it is new year’s day.
The snake symbolizes intelligence, wisdom, and charm. People born in the snake years are intelligent and cautious. They have a romantic appearance and a polished approach to life.
if you are an existing snake person this year will be a Ben ming nian . Ben Ming Nian: Why Your Zodiac Year is Bad Luck you may encounter difficulties or troubles. wearing red unmentionables or socks is believed to help counter the bad luck or evil spirits.
I’m in the apparent minority that likes both.
I’m so very sorry. I just don’t understand, why so many people were fooled by lies, lies, lies; well I guess I do understand, but am verklempt about it.
perhaps 2025-Jan 20 2029 assuming folks aren’t fooled by more lies, lies, lies
Hubs has the jitters all night.
I’m going to put a chuck roast in the crock pot with taters, onions, carrots, mushrooms so dinner will be easy.
Then I’ll shower and get on with the day.
rare is good. it is the watch work of the sdmb.
Your life sounds much too exciting for me!
I failed the Pepsi challenge more often than not. When I buy soda, I check the prices on both Coke or Pepsi, then buy whichever is cheaper (usually Pepsi).
When I was on the tender, there was a member of ship’s force who for some reason needed to keep coming into my workspace. She didn’t have a high enough clearance to be in the space alone, so I had to be there to let her in and keep an eye on her. After three or four days of this, I told her she was as bad as a cat, always wanting to be on the other side of the door.
Lady SCAdian says that the Three Stooges are “guy humour”, not “girl humour”.
I missed my September haircut last year, I’m just waiting until Easter.
I loved The Munsters. Think I may have watched The Addams Family once or twice, but certainly no more than that.
How’s the Mrs. doing? Is she starting to recover from her brain injury? I send good thoughts her way on a fairly regular basis.
Still has frequent headaches. She had her neurology appointment a few days ago; she’s now off work until early April. Elbow and thumb are doing much better, though.
I prefered the Marx Brothers.
I approve this post! As a kid, I thought they were hilarious because of the physical comedy. As I got older, I realizes there was a LOT more to their humor! They were top notch!
I just canceled the reservation I made for our Cades Cove trip and made another. The first one I’d made incorrectly implied there was an indoor pool. Nope - it’s someone’s condo rental with an outdoor pool on the property. Mid April will be waaaaay too cold to swim outside, assuming the pool is even open then.
But I booked another, more expensive, stay at a lodge that has an indoor pool, semi-waterpark arrangement. It’s in Pigeon Forge within walking distance of the Biblical Times Dinner Theater (yeah, we’ll pass on that.) Even if SIL can’t come, we’ve got 2 rooms - Daughter and her crew get one and we get the other.
The one thing Daughter wants the grands to do is “mine for gems” like she did with her grandparents when she was a kid. There are several places nearby for that, so they’ll be excited. I may talk to FCD about shortening our stay - I feel like a whole week is just a bit much. But we’ll see.
OK, I really do need to do some chores.
Can I assume that they don’t have a check-in time requirement that would leave us twiddling our thumbs for a few hours? Also, do the pods stop by baggage claim/customs? That’s where we need to meet the bus to the ship.
AFAIK, you choose when to check in, but a look at their scheduling page should confirm that since I use thrm during the day and haven’t used them in a while. The pods are after immigrstion and customs. I don’t remember exactly where they pick up, but I know I’ve seen a map, perhsps on their website. You can probsbly email them, too. I hope it works for you!
Tomorrow I’m heading up north to a doctor’s appointment to discuss a possible ablation to alleviate some of my knee pain. Also, it just so happens that my mom has an appointment that she normally does virtually in the very same building that I’m going to, so we’re going to make a day of it.
Here’s hoping both of you get some good results and that poor neglected Annie will survive being left home alone yet again.
I’ve not done a sleep study, I just knew someone who was doing that sort of thing and he complained that they wouldn’t let him leave until 8am which was making him late to work. I should know better than to assume that the single case I know of would be the same for everyone.
Won’t matter a tinker’s dam to the ALDIs. Just donate something to the animal rescue in approximately the same amount.
I know, but it will matter to me.
Hubs ordered more puppy blankets yesterday. He thinks I’m a meany and that the dogs deserve NEW blankies, not the old cast-offs I get from the thrift store. I think that the puppies will chew up a new blanket as fast as they will a used one and we can afford more used ones than new ones but if it makes him happy to donate a dozen fleece blankets to the dogs, who am I to say no.
He tends to glue himself to my right hip or scooch down to my feet when I spend time in bed.
Who’s the good boy!!! I’m glad you are feeling better.
I went to bed not too late, woke up at 3am and have been mostly awake ever since. Now I’m at irk, feels like it will be a long day. My eyes are sore, my head is thumpy and I’m really not mentally prepared for today at all.
I hope you aren’t coming down with something, now sure is the season for it.
I’m also hoping that the Doper family’s story has a fast and good ending.
Yesterday was beyond horrible. I’ve had a very sleepless night. Today will bring more. Lots of tears and panic from people yesterday.
I’ve shut my phone off. I have a reddit account - do you know how many forums they have dedicated to cat pics? - and made the mistake of checking in there this morning. I don’t need cat pics that bad anyhow.
I’m sorry you don’t have that option and I do hope you have a job long enough to retire.
JtC, glad you enjoyed the cheese; processed American slices are about as far as I go.
I know you aren’t that adventurous of an eater, but I would have thought that you might have had swiss on a burger or two. (Processed American slices are not cheese. If you have to have plastic separating the slices to keep them from melting back together - it is not cheese.)
You might like a nice mellow brie. It has a smooth taste and melts very nicely. You wouldn’t like the 1000 day stuff I’m enjoying - too sharp and doesn’t have the mouth feel that you are used to getting from the processed stuff. Provolone and gouda are also nice mild cheeses that you can buy sliced (without plastic separators).
Still has frequent headaches. She had her neurology appointment a few days ago; she’s now off work until early April.
That poor woman, my heart goes out to her.
So the plan for today is sloth, needlepoint, possibly day drinkin’, definitely cheese eating, sloth and more needlepoint.
Dinner will be one dish baked chicken with gravy and roasted veggies. 5 minutes prep and the oven does the rest. I’ll finish the day with more needlepoint and of course my nightly Mom call. We rarely have anything new to say to each other, but I do like to check in with her.
I think that the puppies will chew up a new blanket as fast as they will a used one and we can afford more used ones than new ones
Exactly! I know what you mean. I was the same way when the grands were tiny - thrift store clothes at a buck an item made sense because they’d grow out of them in no time. Yet Daughter’s MIL (to this day) buys them both clothes and shoes all the time. We all have our quirks, don’t we?
Oh look - it’s time to make lunch! Off I go…
Well, after over two years+ of my guitar sitting in its stand staring at me accusingly, I finally picked it up last evening. I ran up and down the minor pentatonic a few times; the hands are pretty stiff. Then for some reason gave “Blackbird” (McCartney) a try. It’s a complicated piece and I didn’t hold out any hope of it sounding like much. But after a few run-throughs, it didn’t sound half-bad. My fingertips only lasted about 15 minutes, but I was encouraged to hopefully keep after it. A real surprise was that Sadie laid on the carpet and seemed entranced by it, unlike our last cat who would yowl piteously at the racket.
Half a bagel and some scramble this morning, then to exercise. Gotta make a trip to the bank today. The niece is coming over on Friday. My daughter was supposed to come on Sunday, but her eldest is in town for a bit that day, so maybe the next weekend.
Supposed to be in the high 40s tomorrow! Crazy.
Smoother heaving today. I mean, short of a Plague Of Locusts, it couldn’t have been worse than yesterday. Of course this one time at band camp on the 300 slide, a box of crickets broke open on the slide right after we waxed it, so that was sort of locust-like.
Well, that’s pretty much gonna be 2025 for a lot of folks.
I’m going for martinis.
I prefered the Marx Brothers.
I like both
also addams family not munsters.
I’m Team Addams.
pods
We ship a lot of stuff from The Pod Company, which sounds like a capitalistic take on Invasion Of the Body Snatchers. "We’ll assimilate your whole town for only $49.95!
I’m concerned for those who have grant-administering or grant-receiving work, as well as everyone whose, say, food, education, cancer care, or lab animals rely on those grants. The terse communications I’m receiving from my former employer say it all while remaining tight-lipped. I’m sure if this persists, they’ll cut the instructional faculty, and so I’m relieved I no longer work there. My lovely wife was up in the night calculating whether we would survive if Medicare is cut. She suggests we may need to get jobs, likely non-professional since we’re no longer licensed, but wouldn’t lose the house unless the stock market collapses.
