(Old) The Snowed In MMP

Snow is at least pretty. 33, rain, and wind is the frozen Devil’s taint of winter weather. Starting early was the right decision, things actually got wrapped up at the regular time. I stopped at Teeter on the way home, and bought bread and milk. Because I needed it, not because I was panicking. Spot is being cat and mysterious at the moment.

I’m in Raleigh N.C. Flurries are an apocalyptic event.

And put me down for Nutty Buddys too. Although i do love aChristmas Tree cake in season.

I have 2. One for whites, one for colors. And I layer loads vertically within each basket.

< crosses fingers >

No snow in my little corner of the People’s Free Republic of Cascadia. My car goes in for repairs and maintenance today, and I’ll work on tidying up my study and travel clothes/supplies. I have a document to draft for a writing support thing online. I might make a run out for freezer containers to corral the frozen veggies in the new freezer. That seems like enough.

Could be both.

An apocalypse just has that “Monday” vibe, seems to me.

Jeebus, I thought I was looking at a crime scene.

If Mrs. Wife is interested in keeping the poinsettia & has a sunny window, it can become a houseplant. It won’t “bloom” for the holidays IIRC but it can certainly stick around for awhile.

Now that’s a party!

Oh, shit, good luck!

We have the holiday party this afternoon, and I still need to obtain guacamole (easy) find a Secret Santa gift (may the odds be ever in my favor) and get that wrapped, plus fetch Car(e)less Co-worker before heading over around 4 or so.

When I went to bed (around 5 a.m.) I told myself, “Self, when you awaken in about four hours for bio-break, instead of lolling around pointlessly until Mr. Sandman re-emerges, thou shalt get up & venture forth, to obtain guac’n’gift. THEN nappage may occur.”

Well, I’m awake.

Do I wanna get up?
No.

Should I?
Yup.

Will I?
TBD.

No matter what, I need a few more hours’ sleep before I can be all sociable & jolly & shit like that.

Oh, yeah, Backup Manager taught me a new phrase last night: the Clean Room Zoomies.

It’s when you get a wild hair and dash about doing ALL the cleanup things at once, esp. after not doing anything for a long time.

She said her husband got an attack & then she saw the top of her dresser for the first time in months!

I’m about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. No snow. Normal winter temps, in the mid 20s.

I’m an outlier. I don’t like Nutty Buddies. I’m a Swiss Cake Roll gal. But my idea of a single serving is 4, so they don’t come in the house.

Today is the chiro, the gym, and the Dollar Tree. Then home. I had insomnia last night, plus Ursala Kitteh got in and out the bed at least 4 times.

Daughter has sent me a butt-ton of videos of the grands and Trevor in the snow. Roxy made a snow angel and immediately after, Trevor ran thru it twice! She tried to make a snowball, but I don’t think the snow is wet enough. But they’re having a blast. Isn’t it amazing how you don’t feel the cold at that age? They should both sleep hard tonight.

It stopped snowing here for about an hour, but it’s falling again. I still haven’t made my way to the recliner - distracted by snow-frolic videos. No more Trevor, tho - he got smart and went inside!

Good. More for ME!!! Tho I like swiss cake rolls, too. But the oatmeal creme, not so much. Altho if they’re at hand… Face it, a sweet tooth can be a dangerous thing.

OK, tea and recliner for realz now!

Ha! My wife is on her way to the airport (Boston) right now. Her destination is Raleigh.

Logan County WV here. The governor declared a state of emergency last night and it will stay in effect until tomorrow afternoon.

There were about four inches on the ground when I went to bed last night and just started snowing again. The highway is clear looking but i can tell there is ice under the snow. The across the street neighbor was really having trouble getting up his driveway earlier.

Yesterday I baked cookies and was planning on mailing them to folks today. Between Hubs and Harry the cookies have mostly disappeared but seeing as how the post office is closed, they wouldn’t have gotten mailed anyhow.

I was planning on getting blood work done this morning, having breakfast at Tudors and then swimming but everything is closed so I’m just sitting in my room watching the snow. It’s going to take a very long time before I get tired of it.

I’m sure it would be different if I was still working and had places I had to be, sometimes getting old has its own advantages.

Oh, that’s why you said you had to sort things. I have multiple laundry baskets because the idea of sorting through dirty clothes kinda grosses me out so all laundry sorting happens before going into the baskets. Once something is in the basket, it doesn’t get taken out until everything goes in the washing machine.

Nowadays the youngsters are drinking Gray Goose Vodka and Redbull.

How’s the Mrs?

I was wondering about trains and if they ran in the rain. I heard a whistle yesterday but haven’t seen any trains moving since the storm started.

I’m glad his trip worked out and hope he gets home safely when he’s done.

Words you never want to ask an installation crew, but I had to: “I smell smoke. Is something amiss?” It turns out that they tried to get one more hole out of a dull hole saw. Instead of a hole, you get smoke. Fortunately, no flames, and they had a new hole saw to finish the job. They’re still working, and it’s getting a wee bit chilly in here.

JaneDoe42 The trains in Spain run vainly in the rain.

And I’m good with Housing!
God came through.
I was given rent money so thats in the mail.
Now to get phone money.

Good news!

What a relief, suntan lotion! I’m glad you have a bit of breathing room.

Here in Philly we finally have a lovely snow fall. Right now we have pretty fluffy big flakes lazily falling and visibility has cleared a bit. Sometimes visibility gets whited out and serious little flakes fall with determination.

I’ve got a white Christmas! On Christmas Eve there is a cleaning frenzy to be had. Things must be done by sundown and then hours of church with a very strict vegan dinner.

I slept in a bit, started with getting presents sorted and put away. One friend gives me pajamas for Christmas so I’ll have them for tonight.

I’ll get laundry started. I have a soft hamper that has 3 compartments, with a long handle so it is like a bag. The big thing for today is the bed. I have new pillows, and an electric blanket. This could be exciting for the cats and me. This is my first electric blanket.

On to cleaning zoomies! (Thank you, Purplehorseshoe!)

The local funeral home has a memorial luncheon on the first Saturday of December every year. They give out a pointsettia plant to each family. I have the pointsettia from Dad’s memorial luncheon in Dec 2015. You have to cut it back each year and then it grows back wonderfully. It has bloomed about twice, IMS. If you want it to bloom every year, you have to put it in a dark place for a certain amount of time. I’ve never done that. We put it outside late May - September. It has flourished.

So the snow wasn’t too deep for Harry to respond to the call of the cookies.

Vegan? you can’t have butter or sour cream? Wigilia is meatless but the pierogies are fried in butter and I have to have sour cream with them.

Dishes are done. Need to get sheveled then off to the Fitness Center and will have to swiffer and change sheets for Hubs this afternoon.

Pretty much defines me. Haven’t had an attack recently, but can feel one coming on.

JtC, I do try to sort things by the correct basket, but sometimes my aim isn’t so good… And checking out Virtual Railfan, looks like trains are still running in most places, just not as fast.

Knott, glad it was a false alarm. Anywhere else you can go to sit and warm up a bit (library?).

Coppertone, glad the housing worked out to your benefit.

Looks like 7 loads of laundry today, that’s just about maximum for me. Sweatshirts and Sweatpants are in the washer now, to be followed by the towels and then the miscellaneous (pajamas, gym shorts, swimsuit, etc…). Swimming may be delayed but do want to get some exercise it, between Jersey Mike’s (already et) and Wendy’s tonight, that’s a fair amount of calories I’m putting on, so need some exercise to even it out.

At least all the dishes are washed and the only dirty clothes will be those I currently have on.

Press on.

We have 4 baskets:

  • towels, bedding, tablecloths, sometimes a collection of cloth napkins and dish towels
  • my lovely wife’s clothes
  • my delicates/handwash
  • my everything else.

We have a sturdy drying rack for handwash that’s under a ceiling air vent, so many items dry overnight.

Lincoln, Nebraska.

At this point it is less where I am but more how old I am when that foot of snow arrives.

A foot of snow outside when I was 30 was almost fun (definitely fun when I was 8), but that same snow (I’ve lived at basically the same latitude and in the same clime most of my life-Iowa+Nebraska+Boston then back to Nebraska) now that I’m 75 is not fun but is a hazard to be survived and likely to have the effect of isolating me at home.

If I squint and with the help of poets of life like jane I can still see the beauty of that snowfall (or microburst thunderstorms), as long as I don’t have to risk life and limb go out in it and be somewhere and the electricity stays on to run my oxygen concentrator. Thank the gods and goddesses for life poets like jane. May they always be with me.

We don’t have a windowsill that will accommodate a plant this size. It’s over two feet across.

Turns out that Monday is not a good day to shop at our local grocery, as that’s when they restock. Many shelves empty this morning, including yogurt cups.

But when you’re done with the tissue to you always without fail set it down on a coaster? Do I need to fetch my pearls?

JtC welcome back!

shoe I’m glad Charm is doing okay. Corn snakes are so beautiful! A friend of mine used to have one, and it was as curious as a cat and always getting up to no good.

SuntanLotion glad things are looking up for you! I hope the job goes well this week.

rocking_chair Eastern Orthodox? Do you mind if I ask which type? My ex in-laws are Romanian and very strict about all of the fasting, etc. They keep a calendar up showing what foods were restricted for any given day. But the local Orthodox churches here don’t seem to be as dedicated about such things.

Happy Monday. I’m home and not feeling great. I really hope I’m not coming down with something. And I’m sure my boss squinted super suspiciously at my email this morning - “first time we’re back in the office after 3 weeks and now you’re sick? Suuuure…”

I made the most furry looking matzo ball soup for lunch that I’ve ever seen. It was supposed to set in the fridge before putting the matzo balls in the broth for about 20 minutes. I didn’t want to wait that long because I was making it for my mom and she was hungry. So, it’s kind of like the matzo balls exploded.

I’m in New Philadelphia, Ohio
Here we got 2-3 inches? It’s not too bad, but I did make sure that MusicMan drove my car to work this morning because mine is AWD and his is not. All our local schools are closed around here.

Now I think it’s about time for a nap. Maybe.
