At 6AM here in Southern Merrylande:
Out the front door
Out the back door
I’m guessing about 3" so far based on the back railings. Weather-guessers are saying 8" or 10" total by tomorrow, depending on which site you choose. In a bit, I’ll don appropriate attire and clear the driveway. There’s little enough that I should be able to just push it to the sides. Hope it’s not icy under. Maybe I’ll check before clearing the whole thing - snow will permit better grippage than ice.
We have an appointment at 9:30 at the credit union - I’ll call when they open to be sure it hasn’t been canceled. The county gummint is closed as are the schools. Who knows what else will be closed…
Looking at my email list, I see that neither of the companies I called about re-doing the back deck have provided an estimate yet. Nor have we gotten an email saying when we might hear something or “Sorry, not interested.” Not impressed. One came Dec 19 and the other on Dec 23. Even with the holidays, one would think they could figure a 10X16 deck, some steps, and a ramp fairly quickly. Next, I think we’ll contact an Amish guy on Loveville Road, and maybe I’ll do another search.
Following on from the last MMP - another vote for Nutty Buddy or its generic equivalents. Those things are dangerous and I
them very hard. So I can’t buy them.
I took a snort of generic NyQuil last night and slept like the dead for almost 8 hours straight - no coughing, no congestion, and just enough alcohol to knock me out. But now that I’m up and about again, the drippy nose has made itself known. Guess I need to wear long sleeves today…

Yes, I do use tissues. Fret not.
I’m about to enter WW2 in the series I’m reading. The last 2 books were “before US enters WW1” and “after US enters…” I’ll assume the final 2 will be done the same only with the next war. Since she wrote these in the late 40s and everything takes place in Europe or the eastern US, I’m pretty sure she couldn’t contrive to fit Korea into the mix. All the characters are either from Williamsburg, VA, or various places in England or France, plus 1 German. And I am glad each volume contains a family tree - since it stretches back to the Revolutionary War, I lose track of the various relationships. Altho in the volume I just started, the tree contained a major spoiler and I now know who will get married in this one. As if I wouldn’t have figured it out in the first chapter.
And so it begins. The grands and Trevor will frolic and drag wet into Daughter’s house. Daughter (as of last night) was undecided about working at home - at the very least, I hope she would go into the office that’s a quarter mile from her house rather than driving out to the boonies 20 miles away. She hasn’t much experience driving in snow. And before anyone asks - the programs she supports are at the base out in the boonies and she needs to be there most of the time. But occasionally, she can get away with WFH or going to the local office.
And assuming our trek to the credit union happens, I may make a quick run to Food Lion since it’s next door - or not, depends on how I feel at the time. I’m not worried about FCD managing the snow - he learned to drive in Detroit, so he has far more experience than I do. But it’s the rest of the loonies on the road that scare me. No, having a 4WD doesn’t protect you from slipping, sliding, or crashing into other vehicles. The Laws of Physics still apply!
For now, I sit in my fuzzy robe beside the pellet stove, enjoying the warmth.
Happy Moanday!!
