(Old) The spooooookiest MMP

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 45°F and cloudy. There is some heavy rain expected around 7:45 a.m., but it won’t last long. We’ll have partly cloudy skies, with some peeks of sunshine this afternoon, and a daytime high of 55°F.

My Jeep automatically adjusts the time, as does my Fitbit, and, of course, all of our PCs and phones. I need to set the clocks on the stove and microwave, as well as my alarm clock. My other alarm clock changed time automatically, but somehow it broke. No biggie.

I went to bed around 10:30 last night and slept in. My husband got up with the dogs, but I finally managed to roll out of bed around 6:30. Mr. Taters has gone back upstairs to bed, and I am sitting at my desk in the den. Buster is under the desk with his paws wrapped around one of my legs.

The pork roast (pork shoulder) I prepared yesterday was delicious, and so was the rest of the meal. We have plenty left over for today, too.

I spent some time raking up fallen leaves yesterday, and picking up poo. Maisie becomes super picky if there are too many leaves hiding the exact right spot to poo. We pick up poo most every day, but I missed the day before because it was pouring down rain all day. I took advantage of yesterday’s break in the weather, and now all is right for the pups again.

BooFae, I hope you are on the way to feeling well.

FCM, my mother-in-law took a Panama Canal cruise many, many years ago. She went with some friends and seemed to enjoy it.

Well, I suppose I should get the day started since I was such a slug-a-bed this morning. You all take care.

Wifey, RN has been making comments since I didn’t the injection in my knee. I just stubbed my toe on a cat scratcher box, and caught myself from falling with my arm on the edge of the wardrobe. Naturally, I tore my skin. I washed the wound, and she put a Steri-Strip on it, and then covered it with a huge adhesive strip. I told her I tripped on the scratcher. She said my balance would be better if I got the knee injection. So I’ll schedule one.

On Halloween night I successfully hid out from the neighborhood kids: I watched Hocus Pocus and It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown in a darkened living room, then moved to the kitchen table to watch Game 6 of the World Series and start building the big Lego Christmas tree. I didn’t hear a lot of noise from the street during trick-or-treating, but every now and then I peeked outside: seems like most of the activity happened between 7:30-8:00pm. By 9:00pm it was all over, and I turned some more interior lights on.

Yesterday’s lunch with Dad went well. He didn’t want anything except to kill time between his services: it’s nice that he thought of me, but turns out he thought I lived a lot closer to his new church than I do. This one time was alright, though. And – wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles – I discovered that he was wearing hearing aids! My 77-year-old father has had terrible hearing for at least the last 10 years; I was beginning to think he’d never be willing to try them. He said he got them about a week and a half ago. He’s still adjusting to them, but admitted they make a big difference and he plans to keep using them. :tada: We finished lunch 90 min before he needed to be back at the church, and I knew it would make him happy if I asked to see the place – literally 4 min away from the restaurant – so we went over there and killed another hour. I’ve been hearing him talk about organs and choirs and church stuff my whole life (he’s been doing this since he was in high school), and even though it’s not my “thing” I don’t mind listening to him and chatting about it from time to time. Whenever he gets a new church job he always loves to talk about/show off the building and the organ.

Anyway, I stopped at Safeway on the way home and wound up being out of the house from 10:30am until almost 3pm: by the time I got home, I just wanted to sit at my kitchen table and work on the Lego Christmas tree. I put KPop Demon Hunters on in the background, because I’ve heard people – fellow adults – rave about the soundtrack: nothing grabbed me, but at least now I can say that I’ve listened to (if not really seen) it. The tree is 3000+ pieces, in 24 bags: I’d assembled 4 bags on Friday night, I got through 4 bags yesterday afternoon, then I finished 4 more bags last night while I watched World Series Game 7 (what a game/series!!). Halfway done. :christmas_tree:  I might finish it today; we’ll see.

Yesterday I also ordered my holiday cards: I decided to get a little fancy this year, and I’ll be sending out cards with a pop-up wreath. They might require extra postage, but I still have most of a coil of “forever” stamps and I don’t remember the last time I mailed something so I figure why not.

Before I went to bed last night I remembered to change 6 of the 7 clocks in my house that get set manually. This morning I changed the last one, and I’ll adjust each watch the next time I wear it. Happily, the clock in the car will update automatically.

In other news, today is the 10th anniversary of my mom’s death. She died suddenly and it still stings a little that I never got to say goodbye, but these days the memories are definitely more happy than sad. :two_hearts:

Today is my last quiet/slothful day for a couple of weeks: on top of work this week I’ll be helping to set up the polling place tomorrow evening, and Tuesday is election day (aka the Very Long Day, because I’ll be an election officer). Then on Friday I’ll drive to NJ, where I’ll stay – in two different parts of the state – for just over a week. There’s a wolf preserve not far from my cousins/my first hotel: I’ve always loved wolves and I toured it in the summer of 2024, while I was up there for my aunt’s funeral, and I’ve decided to go back. I bought a ticket for Sunday morning (a week from today); I’m looking forward to it. Other than that, though, my trip will be free-form.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to post this week, but once I’m in NJ and doing a week+ of hotel time I should be able to catch up!

Excellent!! :tada:

How rude!

They both looked great!

How nice of you to pick a cat that matches the furniture (as dicey also noted).

Awww, that’s great photo.

So cute!!

It happens…s’alright! There are worse Dopers for me to get mixed up with. I think it’s understandable, because both of our user names start with “mis-” and my avatar is red.

 …but if anyone would know, it would be shoe!

Don’t rub that belly! It’s a trap!! (:joy:)

When I saw them in 2010 (the “Final Frontier” tour) they were still terrific, but they focused on the new album and hardly played any hits. That was disappointing; in fact, I think it’s a big reason why I’ve waited so long to see them again. The “Run For Your Lives” tour is supposed to celebrate their 50th anniversary and focus on the first nine albums, so I’m hoping for more favorites this time. But I’ll be keeping an eye out for any stories about their U.S. playlist…heh!

 !

7 years ago I was in a similar situation with one of my knees-very dodgy, unreliable and painful. I had to use a walker much of the time. Second ortho talked me into shots and a week or two later I could ditch the walker and was quite bearable with pain. I got a second opinion with an ortho I respected after I’d nursed several of his patients revive ring from knee replacements. Maybe nurse wife has heard of a similar not-scalpel-happy ortho near you?

TL:DR:

Try the shots, they can work wonders. Easier to go through than it sounds. Pro tip: avoid looking at the needle when the doc brings it out.

The mast has been stripped of all rigging and old electrical wires. We’re going to get a quote for having it blasted and then coated in thermoset epoxy. Here’s hoping it comes within our budget. Otherwise we have to strip it, then prime and paint it. ick. I was able to get most of it apart, but some of the screws were corroded in place. FCD has all kinds of tools and he got the bits that I couldn’t get. When we’re done with lunch, I’ll get the boom and see what needs to be taken off of it.

The nice clean shop is grubby again. Ain’t that always the way?

That’s Roxy’s current favorite. I’m excessively meh about it. At least I don’t have her with me full time, and if I ask her to pick something else, she’ll humor me.

I need to think about supper. Maybe a magical, intuitive meal fairy will leave something on the table for us??

I’ve heard good things about a pizza joint in Michigan…but you’ll have to pick it up. I heard there is a pretty magical person who works the drive-up window…

Hell naw, but I gotta remember to tell that one to the crew today …

… I’d just cut it into small squares and go, “Oops! Sorry/not sorry!”

No worries about needles. I was just taken aback by the information that I could wind up in the ER if the injection site became infected. Wifey, RN says you might get an infection any time the skin is broken. May as well do it. Still want a replacement eventually. As it is, I can walk just fine. It’s standing that hurts.

swampy, congrats to your Dawgs! My Ducks had a bye this week, so no news there. BBBoo, I’m sorry about your Huskers.

As ever, cracking me up. I really enjoy the pics of your seasonal displays, too.

cookie, Sadie is the soul of contentment now – such a change from when she first came to you! Happy pets make for a happy home, IMHO. She looks very happy!

Good for you, Boo fae!

metal mouse, you are positively inspirational. Glad you’re not hurting today, hope you enjoy the games and that the Longhorn doesn’t disappoint.

I think you are right, oopsie. Still, thanks for being kind about it. I hope you have an uneventful election day and enjoy the trip to New Jersey.

Funny… I’ve heard the same!

Today is the last day of non-rainy weather for a stretch. Currently 48F, headed for 59F, then rain all week. So…

I’m off shortly for my BFF’s place which is fully fenced. We’ll take a ramble with our dogs, then lunch. She’s Hungarian, migrated to Canada and makes some mean cabbage rolls. Lucky me! Good thing I baked bread yesterday. That and a bottle of wine will be my offering for the occasion. The stew last night was great and plenty to freeze for future “fast food” meals.

Breakfast was a burrito, not a breakfast variety. When I lived with my Dad and stepmom, she used to make these little burritos and I really loved them. Still do, it turns out. I hadn’t made them in years and while they’re not particularly authentic, they are delicious. I can make up a batch of 20 at a time, wrap individually, freeze and have them as I like. So easy, tasty and hand held! They’ve been my go-to lately for the morning meal.

Probably won’t bother about dinner tonight.

Hope everyone has a terrific Sunday. See you after awhile.

Home from church job, getting ready to go to some local wineries with the in-laws. Kittens are making themselves at home. We’re keeping them cooped up in one room when we’re not home and at night for now so we can supervise their exploration. Last night they did not want to go to their room. I got one in, spent fifteen minutes corralling the other one, and when I opened the door to get the second one in, the first escaped. But it tired me out nicely just before bed, so I slept pretty well.

All righty - the mast and boom and spreader pieces are in the truck - FCD will take them tomorrow to get an estimate on getting them purtified. For now, we’re done working in the shop. I’m about to do some crocheting.

Oh, yeah, big surprise - FedEx did it again. Set 2 packages down less than a foot from the porch.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH!!!
A complete sentence so Discourse can < deleted > off.

Meeting free day! Whee! Doing small tidying things and cuddling cats. Sad about the blue jays.

Fed Ex seems to have lost Ms Peach’s new crate bed. It has been shown as “Shipment exception
Barcode label unreadable and replaced” and “departed FedEx facility” since last tuesday.

Howdy Y’all! All went well today. I am so proud of the job my acolytes did today. They were all on time, got vested with minimal fuss and were attentive to what they were supposed to do without too much promptin’. Four of them served for the first time today. One of the torch bearers was nervous about carryin’ a lit torch. I told him the only way he could catch on fire would be if he decided to set himself on fire. Fortunately he didn’t see that as a challenge. I did have to make a few sit up motions and durin’ the Eucharistic prayer had to give stand up straight motions, but that’s to be expected. The service was an hour and forty-five minutes long, so I count that as part of my penance for my behavior yestiddy. Brunch was fantastic! Lots of food and a good variety of stuff. Nappage was much needed. No desire for sup or even a snack after all the good eats we had. Also, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I know how important trash reports are. In a bit we are goin’ to have dirty martinis out on the back porch and watch it get dark an hour earlier. Live on the edge we do!

doggio while I frown upon early Christmas decorations, I have to admit yours are festive!

Cookie too bad Sadie can’t seem to get a handle on chillaxin’.

BooFae a chill weekend (what is a weekend?) is just what you needed. Glad you got one.

MetalMouse Longhorn’s will be the perfect treat after a day of soccer.

Taters now, now. Just imagine how picky you would be if there were too many leaves where you poo.

{{{Oopsie}} glad you have good memories of your mom to hold onto. Also glad you had a good time with your dad. I can attest that it takes time to adjust to hearin’ aids. I am glad I finally got mine and I am sure that your dad can/will feel the same way.

Awaiting seating at Longhorn, they are surprisingly busy for 4:15 in the afternoon. Games went fine, no problems, but three in a row was a bit much. Semi-finals and finals are on the. next two days so might get a little more work in. Cool, but the sun was out for most of the time so not to bad.

Will respond later when I get home.

Dinner tonight will be packaged BBQ baby back ribs, and coleslaw that I mixed up. I was going to boil some shrimp for a snack (about 16 of them in a pound), but they’d been in the freezer too long. :frowning:

I just saw Mrs. L.A. drive up, having dropped off our ballots into the ballot box at the fire station.

Ugh, I’d put out of mind how the time change sucks. Totally dark at 5:30. Hate it. Optimist me says “Ok another month+ until the earth starts leaning back” Realist me says " This sucks."

I cleaned, I dusted, I changed Spot’s litter. I took out the trash and recycling. Green Bay lost. It rained, got dark at 5:30. That harshed my mellow, so I nuked some water for tea(Earl Grey, hot). Dinner tonight is meatloaf, mashed potates, roasted squash and tomatores, and a Wisconsin Old Fashioned.

< e-skritches >

So you succeeded in herding cats?
< bows in awe >

Spill or buzzsawed off by the belt system.

New label fell off, and it’s at FedEx’s overgoods warehouse.

And multi-duty for Xmas, Halloween, and summoning Baal.

Yeah, for the next 4-5 months, I’ll be seeing sun 15 minutes a day.
< hisses at the Daywalkers >

This week went by fast.
I’m voting tomorrow.
