Autumn is definitely back today…yay!
It’s currently 62°F and mostly sunny, with a steady breeze punctuated by healthy gusts. It’s only supposed to hit 64 later today with an overnight low of 40, and it should be much like this for the rest of the month. I have the storm door’s bottom pane raised a few inches for Bailey’s entertainment: even with no other windows open the house is a bit chilly, but an oil heater on a low setting is keeping this room comfortable.
I got some sad news a couple of hours ago: an uncle’s beloved sister-in-law died early this morning, after a 7-month battle with cancer. She was only 60. It’s not a personal loss (I hadn’t seen her in decades), but my uncle and aunt are devastated and my heart’s a little broken for them. I’m extra glad that work is quieter than a typical Monday would be: despite the federal holiday it isn’t a corporate holiday, but a bunch of folks took the day off (my boss and his deputy are both out, and I have no meetings today).
A quick Google search turned up no historical DC events today, but there were two yesterday:
- 10/13/1792 - The cornerstone of the White House was laid
- 10/13/1976 - The first electron micrograph of an Ebola viral particle was obtained by Dr. F.A. Murphy, working at the CDC
And, FWIW, Wednesday will be the 29th anniversary of the Million Man March.
I finished Lady Liberty yesterday:
I’m not crazy about her face – kinda looks like home plate – but I get why that would be the easiest/simplest thing to do. I’m toying with the idea of finding a picture of her face, sizing it, and printing it on a clear label. This was probably the most boring build I’ve done in a while (no cool little details or interesting bits at all), but I’m happy with the result.
Here’s the updated Lego Corner:
You may notice that I’ve done some combining and now have two available shelves/spots. At this time, I have no idea what will be next – but I can’t display any other tall sets in this corner unless the footprint is roughly the same as Liberty’s (I could maybe put her/something her size behind 3PO and R2, on another acrylic riser).
Catching up on the end of the last MMP before diving in here…
Way to ruin oatmeal cookies.
The local grocery store’s bakery makes a pretty good oatmeal cranberry cookie.
I totally get that…but I kinda hope she saves her child by not homeschooling her. Yanno?
(Fart, that is.)
My father doesn’t care for animals but my mom always loved cats, and we had a couple when I was a kid. Shortly before we went to England, we got a kitten with an audible gas problem: when we’d all be hanging out in the living room reading or watching TV or whatever, Dad would read a newspaper and studiously ignore the kitty…but whenever she’d fart, we’d hear “heh heh heh” from behind the paper. (We wound up not able to keep her, because of the move to England – which hadn’t been known/planned at the time she was adopted – and the quarantine laws. Mom decided it would be much kinder/better for the cat if someone else adopted her; my brother and I reluctantly agreed. Dad was happy.)
Heh.
