She’s old enough to be my mom, it makes sense that she would be slowing down a little. I know I sure am. I will miss our seminars, and I doubt I will go to another without her.
I am planning on using the money we are saving to visit her once I figure out what to do about Hubs. I don’t want to tell him that I don’t trust him alone, that would be so humiliating so I’m trying to figure something else out.
My life plan now is to just outlive the fuzzbutts before I get to where they are.
So anyhow.
Huh…folks offer discounts when they see Hub’s ink or baseball hat. Our windows came in at 10% lower with our Vets discount and he gets an automatic discount at Lowes. I have to call someone over and show them my DL so they can push the buttons for me. Two of the insulation estimators asked about veteran status as well.
To be honest, we don’t ask about discounts unless we are looking at high ticket items, but they are often offered at stores and restaurants without us asking. Sometimes the clerk just applies the discount without even saying anything.
I dunno, maybe we just look poor?
And the Aldi I visit has much better produce than the local Kroger or Food Lion. I’m still working my way though a two week old bag of mandarin oranges and they are still as tasty as can be.
While we were at the local Kroger, I watched a truck back up to the dumpsters and just pour out so much good looking produce into the maw that I felt like crying. All of that food just going to waste while food stamps are being cut.
Here’s hoping there won’t be water on the floor…again. Plumbing issues are the worse, even if you aren’t paying for them out of pocket.
Past Shoe threw laundry in the wash & turned on the basement light as a reminder, just before leaving for work.
Saw the light when I got home, chucked it all in the dryer, and I should shortly have a clean blanket, a sweet-smelling bathrobe, and a shitload of clean socks.
Go, me!
My chicken salad today was delishush. Kinda threw it together in a hurry, so I wanna make another batch for tomorrow and add diced apple next time.
This was just celery and halved grapes, plus, yanno, chicken. Dressing was mayo/sour cream with a glug of balsamic vinegar, which gave it a really odd grayish color but a delightful flavor.
Threw in a handful of Asian salad topping things - it’s sliced almonds plus … I dunno, stuff.
Oh, and a handful of crunchy lo mein noodles cuz they were right in front of me & it seemed like a good idea.
And it was! Definitely recommend.
Now I have a hefty house panther laminating himself to my knee.
Y’all, it is AMAZING. The whole crew is celebrating.
It has interior lights (so festive!) and the hilarious part is how completely un-used to having it we all are. Alternate Manager was WAITING to pounce on me, as soon as I stomped off to the walk-in (“Shoe, whatcha gettin’?” with a big-ass grin on her face) but every single one of us went for the temporary spots, predictably.
And grumpily.
Or maybe that last part was just me.
Naw. Gotta be the chicken flavor. The nukable one smells of salt (MSG?) and comfort. Like a hug in a disposable cup.
Dude makin’ it RAIN over here.
Don’t spend it all in one place, Mr. Moneybags.
Is a saddle an option? (Possibly a harness & small wagon?)
Yes, ma’am!!
Oh, that is just asking for trouble.
Dooooo ittttttttt.
There’s one at, of all places, a local absolute crap motel (like, my first day in this town I could guess what was for sale there) and it’s such a lovely little beacon of prettiness.
'Bout two months after I arrived on this planet.
Small world.
Escort service?
They don’t always … yanno … I mean, ya gotta pay extra for that anyway.
That mess happened during the winter and I got delayed by the snow one morning. I called my boss who sounded very worried and let her know that I would call her again when I was in the parking lot. I did just that thing, but it was 8 minutes after clock in time. She sounded happy and told me to hurry up and come in and start working but I told her that I wouldn’t start getting paid for another 7 minutes and wouldn’t hurry at all. She meeped out a very quiet “oh”. So I watched the time and clocked in at 7 minutes after clock in time because I would get paid just the same and I wanted to smoke more without being rushed.
There used to be a couple of big weeping willows by the stock ponds at the tourist towns and I hated them because I knew how much water it took to feed them.
The weeping cherries I’ve seen here do not get watered and many of them are in horrible places for trees to grow…but they are thriving. If I have a dwarf one planted I won’t need to argue with hubs about the branches falling on the roof…
Wow, good idea, no /s involved, excellent idea!..except for the part that he has already learned his lesson about entertaining floozies…so maybe a cat sitter who comes over to clean out the litter robot and load the dishwasher would work better. Thank you so much for being so clever!
Got an ethical question for my fellow MMPr’s. I found a gift card to a well known restaurant in our building’s laundry room, when I took my stuff out of the dryer. It fell on the floor. I posted a note about it on a bulletin board in the lobby of our building. It;s been over a week and nobody has contacted me. How long should I wait before seeing if it still works, or has anything left on it.
It may not work, as it’s probably also been through the wash. But if it does, should I use it?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.[quote=“Baker, post:208, topic:1015709”]

After a couple of weeks, it could hurt to check the balance and use it.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 17c/63f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s cloudy, but I checked my fucking pockets and I have zero fucks to give.” Yes, it’s a bit average out there today.
My potato bag has three spuds left in it. That’s virtually an Irish potato famine in this house!
That doesn’t sound very nice at all, I’m glad you managed to remain mostly upright and didn’t do yourself any damage. Is Ariel tucked up in the warm now?
Pilot enjoy your solo trip, I hope you enjoy all the facilities the resort has to offer! I’m sorry to hear that BB is having a hard time, it must be tough for you both when the relationship was sound but the logistics weren’t.
More good news then!
He is a perfect example! My friend had a gorgeous Maine Coon, he had a fancy pedigree name but everyone called him Duracell because he fired round the house at high speed all the time. Poor boy didn’t have two brain cells to rub together though.
Sounds like a nice weekend plan, and a chance to give El Jefe a proper send-off, even if he’s not quite out of the door yet.
We have six different mandatory training things that have to be renewed at various intervals. Some are every year, some are every 2-3 years so I wait for the HR system to tell me which one I have to take next. Most of them are the same every time, I like the ones where I can skip the entire content and go straight to the quiz at the end. As long as I get 80% of it right, I’m all good.
A week or more is quite long enough for people to have seen the notice and responded. I say it’s yours now, you should give it a go.
Yesterday I was not feeling great at work, so I told my boss I wanted to work from home today and she agreed. There are two other people in the office today, and Fridays are always very quiet so it’s not a big deal. I’m not too sick to work, but I don’t need the hassle of commuting and to be honest, the extra sleep was a bonus this morning.
I’m up, sheveled, logged into irk and have sorted out some bits and pieces. Now I’m munching my breakfast (overnight protein oats) and slurping tea. I’ve got one meeting in my calendar with the ADHD Squirrel and I’ve got a bunch of assignments due to be uploaded at midday that I’ll need to deal with. Other than that, it should be a fairly easy day. Famous last words, right?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 65 and N.O.S. We shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up this mornin’. The rest of the day shall be spent in high RDOS inactivities. Big surprise, I know.
Now I need more caffeine and to purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Or old? FCD went gray long before he was eligible for discounts, but they’d automatically apply them. I wonder if some stores say “Don’t ask” because it might embarrass the customers? When I go to the thrift store, they ask “Are you a senior, a teacher, a veteran, or a first responder?” and all they expect is a yes or no. Less likely to offend the kind of people who get all bent out of shape regarding their age (as if that’s something anyone can control…)
Gale warnings this morning, changing to small craft warnings around 2 - so a windy day ahead. It’s laundry day for me as well as prep-food-for-the-grandspawn-visit day. I need to make a cuke salad, clean the strawberries, and see if the blueberries are still OK (sometimes I forget they’re in the fridge and they get all dried out.) I need to rollsuck, too - Ziva has been leaving clumps of herself all over the place. How can she shed so much and still have so much left? Cats are so mysterious!
TX SIL got the artwork intact yesterday, so Brown done did good. I’m glad to have it out of the house and she’s thrilled to have it. Plus the check she sent to cover the shipping also arrived - that’ll require a quick trip to the credit union. I also need to go to the dentist office - there’s something screwy going on with billing there. My checkups are fully covered by our insurance but he was charged something over $100 when he went.
FCD is planning to do something on the boat today. And that’s all the excitement hereabouts. Happy Firday!!
CatGlove, I went to the U. of Evansville long ago. My smart wife has two degrees from Ball State, the first in Education, and 17 years later, another in Accounting.
Spring is sneaking in. I keep checking the weather thing to see if I can open the windows and turn the furnace off..TTYL
Today’s challenge - loosen, then tighten a set screw where you can barely make out the orientation of the slot so that getting the screwdriver in place is, well, a challenge.
The holder on the towel rack next to the hall bathroom sink was wobbly and the only way to tighten it is to take it off the wall, and use a phillips screwdriver inside of it. But it’s held in place by a setscrew on the bottom and with my glasses, it’s close to impossible to judge where the slot on the set screw is. Plus it’s very small, so I had to go find a teensy screwdriver out in FCD’s shop.
He’s labeled all the drawers in his various tool cabinets and I managed to find a set of teensy tools. It took a bit of cussing, but I was finally able to get the thing off the wall to tighten the inner screw. I should put some lok-tite on it, but that’s for another time. It’s all back in place for now, till next time.
Meanwhile, first load is in the washer. I’m about to call the dentist and figure out the bill thing. I suspect I know why he was charged, but I want confirmation, in case someone goofed. Have I mentioned how much I hate making phone calls?
the storm hit last night. goodly amount of rain happened. today has dawned bright, clear, cold, and windy. the views from on high are crystal clear.
the macy store in the wanamaker building will close on sunday end of day. the organ will have a full day of concert on saturday. from 9am to 6:30pm the organ will play. various artists will play in half hour cycles until 5pm when the grand court organist takes over to have a building shaking finale.
i am planning to go for the finale. hopefully the 3 retail floors will find a new tenant soon.
Can you arrange for that relative he helped out several weeks ago to ask for him to come back to stay for a few days while you go see your mom?
I say wait 2 weeks just in case someone doesn’t do their laundry every weekend, and then it’s yours. Is there a number on the back you can call to check the balance? If there’s no balance, no point in even leaving the note up.
It’s 47F and showery outside. The morning will contain rain showers, but by afternoon, it’ll be a steady rainfall with a high temperature of 50F.
Oopsie, congrats on getting the job! I am so pleased for you!
BBBoo, congrats on the arrival of the new grandbaby!
VanGo, nice work on the boat!
It’s been another hellish week, and yesterday was the worst. My boss and I were both struggling due to higher-up communications and had to produce data that we hope will save us. Worse, we couldn’t share anything because we didn’t want to upset the staff. I also had to attend a goodbye dinner for one of our staff, so masking my concerns was challenging. But I did it; we celebrated S, and she’s on to bigger and better things.
Today is my RDO, and although I brought my laptop home for the weekend, I am not turning it on. They are now watching where we log on, JFC.
So, much like the posts up above, they get what they get with regard to my time, and can go suck a big old finely honed knife.
Anywho, my son is supposed to come up this weekend to spend some time with us and the pups, so that’ll be nice. Other than that, it’s the usual weekend chores.
Everyone take care. I miss being able to post daily, but posting from my phone is a pain, and I usually hit the door running when I get into the office.
Good morning all. Slept in today and then waited for the kids to get into class before doing the Firday Kroger run. Of course I forgot a couple items, so will return this afternoon to pick them up, but otherwise nothing on the agenda except my usual gym trip. Soccer games start this weekend in other nearby regions (we kickoff next Saturday) so may see about refereeing a game or two if it’s within 10 miles or so of me. Heading for the mid-60’s today and 72F tomorrow, so hopefully this was the last cold air blast of the season; my neighbor is out fussing with his mower, but as I think I said before, I categorically refuse to perform mowage before April.
JtC, was never ‘on the clock’ for my government years, so often came in early…didn’t mean I did much then, but it was my choice. And hope you can work something out for both Mom and Hubs.
Cookie, nice thing about having a white beard like I do is that people automatically provide me the senior discount if they have one.
Cat Glove, I may need to look for a tee shirt with that on (and yep, they are still available of course).
red, good on ya for standing up for yourself and good on the neighbor for spotting and returning your badge.
shoe, nothing like a warm, clean blanket and robe. Glad the chicken salad came out ok.
Cupcakes, I concur with 52 below, leave the notice up for another week, that makes it 2 weeks and if no one has inquired go ahead and spend any balance on yourself.
boo fae, it was always nice when the same old computer course was updated and we at least saw something different instead of the same old thing; these days I have to update my training (mostly safety) annually for coaching soccer and those haven’t changed either in 10+ years.
FCM, glad the pictures made it safe and hope you can get the dental office straightened out. And glad you were able to do the required screwing…
rocky, enjoy the organ music. And more and more the large department stores are disappearing. End of an era I guess.
Taters, hope things eventually settle down at work.
And that’s all for the morning report. Have a good Firday all.
Last load in the washer, second in the dryer, first folded and stowed. I called the dentist, then tried to log in to my dental insurance site, but it’s messed up. So we’ll see later. Maybe.
I’ve finished making the daily batch of ice. And it’s closing in on lunch time. I’ll head to the credit union after lunch - by then the 3rd load will be in the dryer. So exciting.
