Probably could, but I don’t trust phone security with my account information. Long ago I actually tried to set up whatever that mobile banking app is that has now apparently been hacked, but it couldn’t recognize my credit union, so I gave up. In hindsight, it now seems like failure was a good thing.
But as much fun as I can have solo, i can have 10x w a good woman included. I have neither kids nor grandkids to share my life with. Without trying to get Penthouse-y, I live for female companionship; all else is wasted time.
Like the old saying…“I spent most of my money on wine, women, & song; the rest I wasted.”
When it gets rhat cold I close the windows & turn on the heat.
Welcome, Rupert! Well, we know he wasn’t dehydrated.
I went to get my allergy shot today. Mrs. Nott said she wasn’t up for a trip to the nearby Coldstone ice cream place; I wonder if she’s not feeling well. Not up for ice cream? Really?
Such a cute puppers, how could I have missed that when she first sent it!
I am also officially old.
Today we had the third insulation estimator over and Mom offered to pay for the job no matter who we picked so I told her it would be 8500 and asked if she had our address to send the check. She asked if we had any way for her to just transfer money to our account like she did for the grand kids and I had no idea where to even start.
So I promised to call her if the check arrived or didn’t arrive in the next week. It does make me sad, that is what she usually spends for us to go to a needlepoint seminar for my birthday present. I know she’s too old travel anymore, but this really puts it in my face.
So, back to the insulation. Never having had a crawlspace before, we had no idea how much our poorly insulated on was costing us in heat/cooling bills. I thought it was our attic that was causing the issues but when all three of the estimators are saying the same thing, I guess they probably know better than me!
While today’s estimator was doing his sales talk, he said that he and his wife were life-long cat people and were thinking about buying their son a Maine Coon (son has been begging for over a year). When we sat at the table to talk business, GG came out.
I love the reaction people have to him. Nobody ever expects such a fabulous cat to just appear without warning and there is a special “Is that a Maine Coon?” tone everyone uses to ask.
GG was such a good ambassador for the breed that the estimator probably went right home with pics and told his wife that yes, their son should get one soon.
That is good news! Baby steps are important. I have bad words to say about your doctor’s office and doctor personally. Uncaring jerks one and all!
Yeah, it just started blowing here. Plus the temp has dropped almost 20 degrees since dawn. I brought my new pot of posies inside, the temps are going to drop under thirty for the next couple of nights and I don’t want to lose them already.
I did buy a pot of daffodils to enjoy now and then plant, they are still outside.
doggio I understand you have a new basketball coach, Will Wade; although he just won a first round game as a 12 seed.
McNeese 69
Clemson 67
So NC St will have to wait a little longer for their new coach.
A bit of rain started about an hour ago and the temp fell about 6° in that hour. We topped at 77° and tonight we should see 36°. Is that psycho or what?
I’ve closed the house up, sigh and before long, the pellet stove will come back on.
Since I’m hourly now, I’ve put in an extra half hour each day this week. El Jefe isn’t retired yet, but we’re having a shindig for him tomorrow. It’s a long drive to Tacoma, so I’ll log off two hours early (13:00). Mrs. L.A. has rented a VRBO or whatever. We’ll check in there first, and then head off to the yacht club.
We’re going down the beach for dinner tonight. I’ve scraped my face and hosed myself off, and I’ll put on some stinkum. Wifey, RN is working a little late tonight, so we can have dinner at a slightly more decent hour.
And an early good evening to all. The recyclables bin is still sitting at the curb along with everyone else’s, so looks like Friday will be pickup for that. Got some exercise in at the gym and am now in chill mode moving towards full slothage later. About 45F now and getting colder, so won’t be heading out this evening. Might even try to catch up on my NYTimes reading…we’ll see.
Pilot, enjoy the mini-vacation. And finding female company.
FCM, much thanks, I can’t speak for other Mumpers, but I like it when folks post their dreams, I seldom if ever remember mine so it’s fun to see someone else’s (IMHO of course).
Wet one. glad you made it out and back safely, icy roads are not my idea of fun anytime.
Oopsie, i still have an old laptop sitting around, have thought about donating it but every time I try to ‘scrub’ it of my personal info it locks up. So there it sits. And hope the shopping safari is fun and productive. And the new study topic sounds fascinating and really necessary for management in this day and age.
Cookie, a couple of times in my life I have gotten checks due to a ‘class-action suit’ I wasn’t even aware I was involved with. Largest one was for about $7 IIRC, so not a vast fortune.
52, glad you survived the storming. And hope the fence gets fixed fast, but tell him not to hesitate since I suspect they’re be a lot of downed fences needing fixed (personal experience).
Need to check for other signs of life.
JtC, that was very generous of your Mom, but as I read further, also a bit melancholy.
“Growing old is Mandatory; Growing up is Optional”
Flyboy, enjoy the little holiday.
And time to fix up some ham-n-cheese on rye for the evening repast. Take care all.
I AM old, give me my fucking discount and stay out of my parking place!
It is actually illegal to work off the clock when you are hourly so your are protecting the business instead of just being petty. (or it was before all this shit started happening, things have probably changed on that front as well.)
I have also been petty about minutes in the past as well. At one job, we used to come in at a suggested time and leave at a different suggested time. Everything got done, calls got finished and workstations were clean. Then management changed and folks got written up for being late without calling and were paid in 15 minute increments. So, if someone were to come in at 8 minutes after clock in, they didn’t start getting paid until 15 minutes after clock in. They stopped being paid at their official clock out time without supervisor permission before staying late.
There would be a whole crowd of us waiting at the time clock so we could clock in right on time and then there would be a line clocking out right on time at all.
No extra work happened, calls were stopped “sorry, we close in three minutes and I don’t get paid OT, I will have to call you back in the morning”, work stations were left a mess and everyone took their full lunch and breaks.
Management caved but it was too late. We liked only working 8 hours a day and didn’t want to risk getting written up so continued to toe the line they gave us.
They ARE paying off, you have a new grandson! Plus old grands and a cat that misses you when you are gone.
But…maybe tone it down just a little with the swearing at the clouds. They don’t care and it just raises your blood pressure.
We used to have yearly classes on all sorts of now forbidden topics. While they could have been valuable the first time around, watching the same dated CBTs (computer based training) every year was just an excuse to play around on our phones whill clicking through the screens.
So, besides the estimator coming out, we also went to Logan to do errands and not a single one worked out. Oh well, next week.
The next couple of days are supposed to be not very nice, so I’ll be wearing my long johns to the university tomorrow. I’ve always been a big fan of layering, just because it is so cozy, but the cold wind here makes me really appreciate my sub-zero duds.
The trees are now showing rose, red and yellow watercolors at the tips but the landscaping trees are taking off. I’m now thinking that I also need a weeping cherry, I loved them in the summer but they are so fabulous in the spring.
You get discounts? I gave up asking for either senior or veteran discounts. Seemed like nobody gave a damn if I was old or served, and it was embarrassing for both of us when the answer was ‘no’.
I thought OT was more than eight hours per day. That’s what it’s like in California. I haven’t checked to see how it works in Washington, but our accountant says OT is over 40 hours per week.
Howdy Y’all! It was rainy and windy when I had to go to the doc and vampire. I got back to da cave and the rain and wind stopped and the sun came out. Such is life. RDOS inactivities ensued and sup got fixed and et and the kitchen cleanded up. That’s the report from swampland.
My Department Director from when I was FT has a shirt that he wears occasionally to our retirement group lunches/meetings that says:
Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened.
It’s a quote from Terry Pratchett:
swampy don’t know if you care about basketball but unfortunately your Dawgs were on the wrong side of the scoreboard today:
Zags 89
Georgia Dawgs 68
I know FCM doesn’t care about basketball but her undergrad uni prevailed.
Purdue 75
High Point 63
doggio may be interested that the Badgers also won (since his Mom is from Wisky)
Wisconsin 85
Montana 66
If there are any other teams that anyone is interested in, let me know and I’ll keep you apprised.
I’m still trying to finish reading last week’s mmp and I agree with Knots and KayT about our American flag. We have been flying an American flag on our house for almost 45 years. (moved in Aug 1, 1980) No blanking way are we taking it down just because of the Felon and his cult.
The closest thing to that we receive are busted up phones that sometimes bite you (you get little glass or metal slivers handling them).
I don’t depend on Aldi for any produce. Once in a while, I’ll pick up a bag of spinach, but generally, the produce at my local store has seen better days. That, and they package it in multi-packs, which is a waste for a one human household.
Every warehouse I’ve ever worked in has had at least one of those guys.
Wait until tomorrow. You all are about straight east of me and one day behind in weather. Today was chilly, as in 53F at 0200 and 47F at 1500 and windy enough for small dog warnings.
In some jurisdictions, OT follows the pay period. IOW, if you get paid every two weeks, missing one day can tank the extra hours that you worked if it keeps you under eighty hours.
More on the missing crap saga. This afternoon, I delivered a rack of programmed devices to the next department, brought back an empty, placarded rack, left for 10 minutes to deliver the trade ins and came back to cartonize more phones on said rack. Said rack was missing.
Apparently, the second shift lead in my own department came and got it (she was pulling some OT for the department next door, yanno, the bad neighbors). I swung by my boss’ office and told her where I was going and what I was doing and she told me to go for it. This same lead walked off with one of our box carts earlier this week and still hasn’t brought it back. She tried that old it belongs to the company crap and I told her that when I’m on the clock, so does my time and she owes the company for 20 minutes of it. Oy!
A little while ago, there was a knock at my door. It was my next door neighbor with my irk badge. It had fallen out of my purse coming in the house.
Tomorrow, maintenance is coming back. My commode began running incessantly again, so they will be replacing the innards…again.
We both had the rockfish and asparagus. She had two Hemingway daiquiris, and I had two negronis. We would have had another round, but they didn’t come back. The best part: Wifey paid.
