(Old) Top O' the Mundane To Ya- A St. Patrick's Day MMP

Good evening all. Soccer has been refereed, it went well and I kept up with the 9-year olds up and down the field for 50 minutes without getting winded, so guess I’m ready for the season. Very pleasant day to be out and about, tomorrow promises more of the same but rain is due around midnight Sunday.

Ha! So did my brother and Sis-in-Law, back in the mid- to late-70’s (presume you meant Northern Illinois). Only memory I have of it was seeing One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest at a theater there.

Coppertone, good luck with the hair appointment; I don’t have enough to worry about anymore.

Flyboy, sounds like once you got there it’s been a fun time, hope the drive home wasn’t to aggravating.

Cat Glove, good idea to take Bella to see the car; if she’s got to ride in it she should have a vote…

When I saw that a few minutes ago, I thought “wonder if doggio will spot it”. Silly question…

VanGo, glad your getting a day to yourself. Enjoy it.

Hippie, back when I bought this house in 1997, the builder put in a couple of trees, but I never liked them much and after a couple of years had them dug up and removed. but sorry you’re losing an old friend.

As do I.

rocky, sound like a full and fair day and thanks for the musical accompaniment.

And that’s all for now. Need to do some internetting and then think about bedtime. Take care all.

:people_hugging: You’re being a good dog mom.

I think they just want to keep you around for a lot longer, hippy.

I went up to SIL’s town to visit her in the hospital this afternoon. They also found a bleeding stomach ulcer that had to be fixed. Today was the first day she could even have soft food. I think she’s in for a longish recovery. I’m going to card bomb her while she’s in the hospital and rehab. My nephew said he’d take them to her if I mailed them to her house. He’s coping a little better, but he knows life is about to change for him. My niece is running herself ragged as a patient advocate and she lives about 45 minutes from her mom. Fortunately, a family friend has stepped up and is filling in the gaps.

I swung through CVS at Tar-jay to pick up a 'scrip on the way home and missed them being open by ~2 minutes. I think I’m going to change which branch I use and go with one on the way home from irk, with better hours and a drive thru. The one at Tar-jay worked well when I irked 8 hour days, but not so much anymore.

I rescheduled my tax appointment tomorrow because I’m still looking for my FSA form. Oy!

Were it not for the side-trip for breakfast, we would have been home in just over two hours. The trip down, including taking our bags into the house, sook about four hours.

Every rental accommodation should come with cats. I do feel sorry for the orange basketball though. At least he’s loved, and the guests love him.

FCD insists he’ll put up an extension ladder and take down a branch that needs to go. I’m pretty sure the ladder isn’t long enough, but we will need to get some tree guys here for that and a few other lumberjack related items. There comes a time when someone else needs to do the dirty work. Circle of life and all that. Pass the torch, dude, just pass the torch.

It was a nice visit with Daughter and her spawn, and even Trevor. Roxy had a little notebook and she wrote a story for her dad - for a first-grader, she did a very good job. Tobias helped me make lunch. He helped set the table, then plucked a bunch of grapes from the bunch, and put cheese on our pasta. He loves to help and he’s so cute and intense!

The kids and the dog got some outdoor time and some running around and even some piano time. Tobias sang to us - like his sister, he’s good at staying on pitch. And Roxy and I played a game of War - I hate playing cards, but she loves that game, so I must indulge her. I also got cuddle time with each of them. They truly earned the titles of “Best Boy in the World” and “Best Girl in the World” - they’re flat out wonderful kids.

And it was great to see them go! Daughter sent me a photo of Tobias completely crashed out in bed. Too cute!

FCD and I watched an Inspector Lynley Mystery - those shows are from 2001-2007! It’s a hoot seeing the old cell phones! I’ll be crashing soon and I expect he’ll be right behind me. He’s going back to the boat tomorrow, but he doesn’t need my help, so I’m going to hack back the wisteria and trumpet vines while they’re still bare. They’ve gotten out of control!

And so ends my day. I think it’s time to mosey back to bed for a little tablet time till my eyes won’t stay open.

Welp… The corned beef & cabbage has been finished off. I need to go to the supermarket tomorrow. I’m going to see about some USDA Choice chuck stew meat for chili. It would be nice if it’s in the Buy It Before It Rots bin, but I may just get the fresher stuff.

Got this in my email today and thought about you.

Is it possible that it is because you are an old man? They love you and want you to be around for a long time to come, they know that us old farts just don’t bounce as well as we did back when we were 50.

That must have been so amazing IRL, I’m so glad you managed to find something to sit on while you enjoyed.

Oh, that poor dear. I hope things go as well as possible for her and everyone.

We no longer own a ladder. He forgot our big extension ladder because it was behind the shed and he gave the smaller ones away instead of moving them. Every time he says something about buying a ladder here, I remind him that we have agreed that we won’t ever climb one again.

Ain’t none of us going to live forever, but if we stay off ladders it will improve our chances of living until next year at least.

So, I think that my wrist isn’t really broken, I think it’s just a nasty sprain. The x-rays didn’t show any breaks in my hand or wrist and all of my fingers move. Kinda.

They set me up with an ortho consult on Wednesday, hopefully whoever I see will be reasonable about restrictions cause I’ve got stuff to do.

I do have good neighbors here, it makes life so much nicer.

Back when my nibblings wanted to play War with me, I had special Aunt rules. If someone won THREE rounds, they got to fiffle the cards all over the place while we laughed like loons. Some of the cards got lost, some got folded and creased. Didn’t matter, ain’t nobody counting cards when playing War with little.

Its nice to be able to change a bad mindset just by deciding to do so.
I have been attracted to broken losers since my son passed.
I realized I felt broken and was seeking the broken as if I could fix them. But I was really trying to fix myself.
Sorry for bad sentence structure.
I would instantly catch feelings and be attached with no effort on their part.
After I dumped the last loser January 2024, I was content.
So when this nice man at church showed interest, I thought nothing of it.
I wasn’t attracted to him at all until he started doing things for me-going out of his way to drive me, buying me t.p., paying my rent. What got me was we talked non stop when we’re together like I’d known him for years.
Hes got a personality. I caught feelings but since he hasnt asked me out, I stuffed them back where they came from.
If nothing happens, then I have a good friend.

Oh, I believe live lil’ poultry chicks (and fragile fertilized eggs) too, yes?

(We won’t talk about the live reptiles. Shhh.)

I’m sorry, but I laughed my ass off at your phrasing.

It just sounded so … melancholy.

That’s what gift bags are for.

Really, really big gift bags. With lotsa colorful tissue paper.

No, but she also didn’t foresee moving to Siberia the frozen tundra.

Okay, it’s just western Michigan, it’s not THAT cold.

Gods I love it here.
Except in mid summer, when everyone else is going “Trah-lah-dee-dah!!!” :sun: and I’m shoving popsicles in my … bra.

You went to flippin’ urgent care, for … thinning hair … ?

That’s usually, like, for people throwing up their toenails or clutching blood around their broken bones, but, uh, okay then.

It’s amazing what cats can pull off.

Dasha, Charlie, and the aptly-named Onyx sound like a great host(ess) trio.

I’d expect no less.

You are a very gud hyooman.

That’s wonderful!

Thank you so much for sharing that. Good news is so welcome.

.. also, did not know WTF a turanian tiger is, so tonight I learned a thing!

I absolutely understood this.

Indeed! As I said, rentals should include cats.

Tonight, Goo is over Catmom’s shoulder, and Abbey is beside me on the couch. :grinning_cat:

Did aisan BBQ stir fry and a Sazarac for dinner, with Bojangles seasoned popcorn for dessert.

I’m happy for you either way.

3 gift bags. One on each horn.

I like Sazeracs. I do. The only thing is, I don’t care for sweetened drinks. And since the absinthe is just a rinse, I’d really be fine with straight rye. (I know I’ve said my current favourite cocktail is a Vieux Carre, and I do like Manhattans; but I’d be fine with straight rye or bourbon.)

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. Afterwards we will swing through the drive thru at Cook Out for stoner food to bring back to da cave for consumption. Nappage and other RDOS inactivities to follow.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon sloth shall ensue.I paid the ice cube tax to spot when I got my coffee, so he is happy.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 11c/51f and cloudy. Weather app says “Serge King once said “Revelations are found in clouds.” How about the fucking revelation that clouds fucking suck?” Really, is it that bad?

Ouch! That sounds like some serious damage - make sure you look after yourself! I hope you heal quickly and Hubs remembers his duties

nellie good to see you back again! We only had small pets when I was growing up, hamsters and guinea pigs were the most exciting ones we had. Next door’s cat liked our house better than his own so he spent a lot of time with us, and we somehow inherited a tortoise from a neighbour too.

Poor girl, must have been quite a trauma for her. I’m glad she got over the experience, and you were able to contain the damage.

Well, my weekend plans went quite literally down the pan. I woke up on Saturday morning feeling a bit rough, and that was just the start of the decline. Something gastroenteritis-ish struck, I’ve been in bed for 36hrs and only managed to drink a bit of water in all that time. Almost two days without a cup of tea, that’s definitely me on my deathbed!

I’ve finally managed to get myself out of bed and sitting up, although I’m still having periods of lightheadedness, so not planning on doing anything of any consequence today. I’ve run a bath because I feel icky, and I may manage to get downstairs to the sofa later. Other than that, I’ll be laying down somewhere feeling sorry for myself.

Aw, {{{BooFae}}} - hope the ickies leave you soon. In fact, all you walking wounded and medically stricken need to get healthy and all that. I won’t take no for an answer, dammit!

I forgot to make the garlic bread to go with yesterday’s pasta, so this morning, I sliced the loaf in thick pieces and FCD and I had french toast for breakfast - it was quite yum! But now, just before 8, he’s enroute to the boat and I’m still in my fuzzy robe. I’ve got the ice maker running, so that’s an accomplishment of sorts.

After I finish my morning surfage, I’ll shower, dress, empty the dishwasher, and run to Aldi, since the french toast took the last of our milk. I think I need something else, but for the life of my, I can’t recall what - with luck it’ll come to me before I go and come back.

Once it warms a bit (it’s still in the 30s) I’m going out to hack back the nearly-sentient vines that have taken over the side fence. Since they haven’t sprouted yet, it should be relatively easy to prune the bejeezes out of them. I just need to decide whether to use the nippers or the hedge trimmer (power tool.) I’ll figure it out when I get started. I should probably charge the batteries just in case.

No other plans for today… yet. I figure I’ve got enough to wear me out as it is.

Happy Sunday, all!

There may be a haiku in there somewhere.

This just in: MusicMan has shaved off his beard and mustache that he’s had since I have known him. That’s about 12 years for anyone who’s counting!

Whoah.

Completely different but still my favorite awesome human. :purple_heart:

Once upon a time long, long ago, FCD had a very short-term job in a local shop that made chocolates, so he had to shave his beard. They did let him keep his mustache. It was soooooo weird, and even weirder when he quit, then shaved the 'stache so it would all grow back together. The most he’s done since then is occasionally done a goatee/mustache but mostly it’s been a full beard, occasionally bushy, occasionally very short. I think if he went bare-faced, it’s freak out the grandspawn.

Incidentally, he’d been hired to be plant engineer at the chocolate place, but in reality, the owner just wanted to throw about “my engineer” in conversations with, well, everyone. FCD figured the game out in less than a month, and that was that.

OK, reading time done - I need to shower and dress.

“Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Beautiful U.S. 30 dragstrip! Arnie The Farmer Sedgewick! Big John Mazmanian!” Boy, that was a long time ago, faintly remembered from radio ads.
Coppertone, I didn’t spot any ostriches, but we had a few wild turkeys wandering through the yard.
NPR just did a story about the Amazon Echo devices. Mine blinked on briefly upon hearing “Alexa,” but must have somehow decided it wasn’t being summoned. This is weird on several levels.
JaneThe Cane, we have a dandy stepladder, but I’m not sure why. Mrs. Nott is afraid of heights, and I’m no longer safe on ladders (Parkinsonian balance.)
Okay, I’ve had my coffee, said what I had to say here, and it’s time for breakfast.

Morning all. Up, took my medication, and made the Sunday NY Times run to Kroger, so a fairly active morning for me. Now sloth until it is time to head for the Metro Diner for the major feed of the day, then we’ll see what else is in store. Due to reach 77F today but rain is due tonight, which might mess up my first soccer practice on Monday. Just have to see what happens.

May need a new keyboard, mostly it works well but the right arrow (to advance it one space right} has stopped working and it is an…irritant, not a major thing but never realized how often I used that one key during the day.

Still, if that’s the worst problem I’ve got, guess I’m doing well.

red, hope SIL and family can adjust to the situation.

FCM, I passed the torch a long time ago, heck, don’t know if I ever lit it. A man’s got to know his limitations… And sounds like the family visit was the kind they used to show on TV in the 1960’s. Happy vine-trimming!

JtC, I still have a ladder, but about three steps up it is my limit. And hope the ortho appointment goes well.

Coppertone, I think you show great wisdom and self-awareness regarding the church guy.

Don’t know for certain, some places (not hospitals) call themselves ‘urgent care’ around here when they are just walk-in clinics. Don’t know if it’s the same elsewhere.

Happy Vergering, swampy

{{Boo fae}}, hope you get feeling better soon, the moggies must miss you. My mom used to call that the ‘intestinal flu’ and last time I was bed-ridden sick (some years ago) it was much like that. Take care.

Sticky Buns, I’ve let my U12 soccer teams shave off my beard at times, but I find I like my face better with it on, so just need to trim it more often.

And time for the morning banana and to watch my Sunday-posting You Tubers. have a good Sunday all.
