We had sailboats for the better part of 35 years, but after his 10 spinal surgeries and 2 knee replacement, among other things, we sold our last sailboat, and eventually got our trawler. I do miss the quiet of sailing, but neither of us is physically up to dealing with sails any longer. At least the trawler isn’t one of those obnoxious speedboats.
No kidding - who has ice cream untouched for more than a day or two??? (Which is why I no longer buy it.)
Daughter and the spawn, and Trevor, are on the way. Our silence is about to be shattered!!!
Chefguy have you thought about laying out what exactly needs to happen and within what timeframe before you consider moving elsewhere? And it may be that you never get to that point at the current place, but it also sounds like building management doesn’t know what’s going on to even be able to give you a heads-up about it.
That is the unfortunate downside to sailboats. It is so much more work than a motorized boat. So while I enjoy other people’s sailboats, I am far too lazy to ever have my own!

Adventures in Old Dog Ownership (): Bailey likes to sleep on the bathmat in front of the tub – she alternates between there and her primary dog bed – and sometimes she poops in her sleep due to age-related muscle weakness (she’s 16). She had quite an accident this morning. Shortly after I opened my eyes at around 7am I heard her normal “waking up in the bathroom” sounds, but then I heard a soft thump: I quickly got out of bed, and found her stuck on her belly on the tile floor between the two bathmats. She’d pooped (a lot) and stepped in it, and slipped: poop-covered paws have even less purchase on smooth surfaces than usual, plus she no longer has the strength in her hind legs to pick herself up if she slips like that (which is why 95% of my floor surfaces are covered these days). Y’all, there was poop everywhere: all over both bath mats, all over the tile, all over the dog, etc. I got her back up and quickly closed the bathroom door with both of us inside, and spent 30 minutes cleaning up the room and the poor doggy (who also peed while I was wiping her backside…sigh). Thankfully, it’s a small room and I was able to contain the damage; eventually, I got the mess under control. When I could finally let both of us out I put the bath mats in the washer, and discovered some poop smeared on two of her dog beds: I just moved the bath mats to the dryer and put the dog bed covers in the washer. I also mopped the bathroom floor. All told, cleanup took almost an hour.
Bailey has since eaten breakfast, been outside a few times, and napped, and seems none the worse for wear. But what a way to start a day/weekend! When I was finally able to sit at my desk, I did my bills (yesterday was payday! yay!), downloaded the photos I took yesterday of the in-progress Atari Lego set, had my morning protein shake, and started this post. When I’m done here, I’ll get the bath mats out of the dryer and take a shower before relocating to the living room for lunch.
Speaking of the Atari set, doggio I laughed/thought of you yesterday: the Adventure cartridge and mini-scene were the first two things to be put together (bag #1)!
In other news, I got an email this morning reminding me about my ticket to Tuesday’s Supreme Court argument session. I didn’t need a reminder. I did, however, cancel the ticket I had for the following week in light of the new job starting two days before that session. If Tuesday winds up being so much fun that I can’t wait to do it again, I’ll enter the lottery again sometime…but while I fully expect it to be interesting, I also think it’ll be a “no need to do it more than once” thing.
!!
Even though it was back on this morning, at this point there must be some kind of local/county/state agency that y’all can contact…?
Mrs. Harry sent over a casserole and a pan of brownies, so I guess it wasn’t a total loss.
Home made ice cream? Yeah, that’s just crazy talk.
That’s really all I ever ask as well. I know that things happen and parts are sometimes hard to find, but don’t just leave me hanging…tell me what’s going on so I can plan for it.
Poor Bailey and poor you. She must have been so humiliated, poor girl.
So now that the drugs have mostly worn off, my shoulder is killing me! Hubs wants to take me back to the hospital for more x-rays but I think I’m just sore and probably need more brownies. Too bad we don’t have any ice cream to go with them!
So I was just loading today, no adventures to do other things, which was nice. I got a load of laundry in the washer, and am having brunch.
[19th century Robber Baron]Jeeves, have the kitchen help prepare bacon and TWO eggs for my repast today.[/19th Century Robber Baron]
I deal with crickets all the time, but now it’s the season where they start shipping LIVE BEES.
The only down side to being an only child is you can’t pin the blame on someone else(Mom never belived that the dog broke her wood statue while playing hockey.)
Grocery run this morning, which included a gallon of milk. The wife wanted a coffee, so she went to the Starbucks counter with the milk in hand. I meanwhile took two bags of groceries out to the car and waited for her. She came out, put the milk in the back with the other stuff and off to home we went.
Parked in the garage, got out and opened the rear hatch, the milk tumbled out and broke open on the floor. Luckily, our parking place is right next to a floor drain, so we both stood there and watched it glugglugglug-ing its way to eternity. Our excitement for the day.
Afternoon all. Spent a couple of hours chasing U7 players around the field (they were all born in 2018) and didn’t have much energy left for the U12’s so came on home to relax prior to refereeing at 4:30pm. Dishes should finish washing soon and except for that nothing much is on the agenda. Weather is nice, bright and clear and 68F.
52, apparently the passengers are allowed to visit the bridge almost anytime and can ‘assist’ at times with the sails. Sounds like a great trip. Just have to wait a year for it…
Oopsie, sounds like a sh***y day… Seriously, hoe Bailey is doing better. ANd looking forward to your report on the Supremes.
JtC, take it easy and if the pain persists do see the Doc.
Cookie, look at the bright side of the spilt milk, if the power goes out at least you won’t have spoiled milk to deal with…
I am sitting here looking at a very fat stuffed sheep dog toy which my son’s dog decided to sheer with his teeth yesterday. I thought I could repair it but alas, it’s inoperable. The sheep is still smiling, though.
I have some kind of mild sinus-y thing going on, so I won’t be doing too much. I do want to get over to Total Whines to replenish some hooch that are running low, as my daughter might like a cocktail after she arrives on Friday. Also I remembered that my experiment of pouring cheap amaretto into an Amaretto DiSaranno bottle proved that doing so does NOT make it taste any better.
Oh. That’s troubling. I have a long-time friend (since high school) who had rheumatic fever as a child. She had a minor heart murmur, but it never caused any issues during her appendectomy and three pregnancies. She said something recently about having to be extra-careful now, and your post confirms that for me.
That makes sense! And I’m sending hugs to your nephew and you. I love your attitude. He’s lucky to have you as an aunt.
Those are wonderful!
Did it look like Leonid Brezhnev? The bear used to be a symbol of the USSR. (It protected it from enemies…or maybe Liberace, I can’t recall.) Anyway, I always thought Leonid looked like a bear–or is it that bears look like Brezhnev? Maybe your subconscious wanted you to concoct a White Russian.
You say this like it was no big deal that Spot saved you from an untimely demise. Dryer lint kills over .0002 people annually, mostly people who binge-eat after giving it up for Lint. Remember, people, ALWAYS wash down dryer lint with at least 32 ounces of fabric softener.
I’m sure your parents would have bought you one for Christmas, but they’re impossible to wrap: 37 rolls and STILL the damned horns and frill poke holes in the paper.
Why, yes, yes I am, because I knew I could count on you for an interesting animal choice. I can see how living in Hinges of Hell, Texas might complicate their need for, you know, snow and cold. Did childhood shoe suggest keeping one in the freezer?
MetalMouse, I’m very excited about your trip. It sounds WONDERFUL! I know it’s a year off, but I’m already looking forward to photos.
You could make it up to them by inviting them over for s’mores.
WetOne, I thought chicken a la king was so elegant when I was growing up because anything with pimentos was fancy, in my mind. Whatever happened to pimentos? They used to be in a lot of recipes, and now I only see them in recipes for pimento cheese.
Wow! Who needs Tasmanian devils when you’ve got all those siblings? I never wanted to be an only child. I was the youngest of four, and I hated it when the sibs went off to college. I can see how the eldest of 5 would wish Calgon would take her away, though.
Yaaay! I went to NIU, not U of I, but I spent many happy weekends in Champaign when my sibs attended U of I. I still know the fight song. You are the fame protector.
On, boys, for we expect a
victory from you, Illinois!
Ironically, the high school where I taught in Wyoming stole parts of that for their own fight song.
The truth dawns: I can’t keep up because I can’t shut up!
My hair has been coming out for a few months. It did a year ago but restored.
I been taking biotin but its not helping yet.
Urgent care referred me to a dermatologist. I do not want thin hair!
The drive down was horrid. About 150 miles through rain, Seattle traffic, and people leaving a sportsball game. The party was nice, and there were people from the past that I got to talk to again. One guy moved to Yakima a few years ago, and he is the opposite of a Trumper. He says he lives in a cul de sac, and all of his neighbours are liberals. But if he goes out of the cul de sac, he’s surrounded by Trumpistas.
We stayed overnight in a room in a house that The Spousal Unit found. After entering the code and opening the door, we were greeted by a morbidly obese orange cat named Dasha. Dasha was very sweet, and readily accepted pets and scritches and rolled over to expose his belly. He had been declawed. He loved nibbling fingers. The poor thing was so fat, he couldn’t clean himself. But he’s a real sweetie.
Charlie was a sort-of Bengal-ish coloured tabby. He also greeted us, and followed us to our room. We didn’t see sleek, black Onyx until after we returned from the party. Again, she loved pets; she just wasn’t as outgoing as the other two kitties.
This morning as we were preparing to leave, I was dressed except for my shoes (no shoes in the house) and sitting on a couch. Dasha jumped up on the couch (I wondered if he could) and crawled into my lap. He received many pets. I collected a lot of dander and fur at the base of his tail. I wish I’d asked the host (only seen twice) if there was a brush. As I said, Dasha couldn’t groom himself; so when we first met I just thought he had a weird texture.
Anyway, it’s nice when accommodations come with cats.
We stopped at Shawn O’Donnell’s American Grill & Irish Pub in Mount Vernon on the way home. Both of us were more hungry than we thought. Thence to take the scenic route (Chuckanut Drive) before getting back on the freeway.
I’m so sorry you were injured. That is one very good neighbor.
Did you say this loud enough for Hubs to hear?
Hubs has been helping daughter visit various (3) auto dealerships as she needs to buy a car. She stayed overnight as the one they were visiting first today was just a mile or so from us. That meant Bella was also here.
We had MahiMahi burgers last night with broccoli and pea pods. I also baked an apple with apple pie spice in the core and a little butter. Daughter gave Bella a bit of MahiMahi and she seemed to enjoy it.
Today I made Banana Oat Nut Muffins. Daughter is taking most of them to church for coffee hour after the service tomorrow. Then I made an omelette with red onion, orange bell pepper, shitake mushrooms, pea pods and tomato slices for Bella and I. Although no red onion for Bella. I also melted muenster and extra sharp cheddar on my portion of the omelette.
Bella was out in the backyard afterwards being sure that the squirrels did not come back to feast on the bird seed that had fallen on the ground. Then we were going to go for a walk and just as we got to the front walk, Hubs and daughter pulled up so she walked along with Bella and I and told me about the car she test drove. She liked it a lot, thinks it’s better than the one she test drove Thurs/Fri. Then Hubs and daughter left to go check out another car near her home so Bella left along with them.
I’ve just been watching tons, and I do mean tons, of basketball games. I’ve actually seen parts of every single one of the March Madness games. I have a custom excel workbook that I created to track all the games.
The Women Spartans are about to start their game against Harvard so I TTYL.
Howdy Y’all! I made foodstuffs for a dozen folks who seemed to like it, or maybe were just hungry after a mornin’ of yahd irk. I have to say the church house grounds look fantastic. This afternoon I accomplished nappage and day drinkin’. Bourbon and ginger ale for those playin’ along. It’s time now for Netflix, chill and popcorn.
I saw my Maine Bears won the hockey east tourney, unfortunately I couldn’t get coverage of that here. I’m glad to see them back at the top. My senior year they went 42-1-2 and won the nationals.
I’m having an, as shoe would put it, a BDO, my first in a month-plus. I’ve done 4 loads of laundry, still need to fold and stow, and am cooking up some corned beef and N.O.T.
We have (or had) a forty foot cedar tree we planted from a sprig shortly after we moved into this house. It had a fork about halfway up ant two peaks. My wife has always hated the tree. Two years ago a wind storm took one of the peaks out so it looked a little lopsided. This peak was tangled in a power line so the public power people cut it loose and hauled it off. A couple of months ago another high wind took down the other peak. I am no longer allowed to climb ladders with a running chainsaw, so I planned to wait for spring and hire someone to trim it out
In the blizzard we had Wednesday The high winds and heavy show has beaten the tree into terrible shape. We also have a couple of pretty large branches hanging from the walnut tree. Yesterday I talked to a tree guy while getting coffee and he said he would look at it and give me a call. An hour or so later we saw that guy in the yard from our ring camera. We have not heard back. Today after running errands we drove past a crew taking down a tree down the street. I stopped and asked who was in charge He followed me home and looked at the work and gave me a reasonable bid. I asked when he could come and we closed the deal.
Tuesday we will get that tree out and the hanging branches of the walnut tree. five years ago, before my medical issues I would have done it myself but my wife and both daughters just said no.
Back to the chair after a long day. First the shopping trip then quick turn around for the 2 pm shuttle. Quick Look around 2 store for items for earth day at the condo. This went well. The cats also scored 2 new cat beds. Then over to a restaurant for dinner. Ending up at wanamaker’s for the final organ concert. Thousands of people there. I scored a box to sit on and settled in for an hour and a half of various organ works with horn added in.
He did use the bell stops! They are sooooo fun. I was hoping he would play them.
The above is from the finale. He ended on Bach of course.
