(Old) Top O' the Mundane To Ya- A St. Patrick's Day MMP

Thank you for saying that, I do appreciate it. If I felt comfortable leaving hubs alone overnight, I’d take the train to DC and wave my sign around there for a couple of days, but he’s forgetting so much now. :frowning:

I’m glad no birds were made homeless with the loss of the tree, it is always sad to see one go.

Someone asked if we have Dogwood trees here. We do and they have bloomed overnight! There are some yellow bushes with flowers that look like hummingbird would like them and the trees are starting to get very bumpy looking

It was not very nice today, it was cold and damp in the morning but did warm up a little in the afternoon.

A couple of campus cops came out to harass us but we pointed out that we were not on the campus, we were on the public sidewalk and they needed to call the real police to make us leave. I’ve noticed that a bunch of people pointing their phones/cameras at rent-a-cops does tend to upset them. They said some not nice words but left us alone and the police never showed up so we counted that as a win.

That is so odd, I wonder if you can maybe put little rubber bands around the hinges to stop them from pinching as much?

The tiny rubber bands that come with your glasses repair kit that you never use because what are they for? Those are the ones I’m thinking about. I’m guessing if they aren’t so tight to your head, they won’t press against your nose so much as well.

Raptors are fascinating birds and Redtails are my favorite. They are like the Honey Badger of the bird world, they just do not give a shit. When I last visited the Raptor Center in Idaho one of the docents was showing off a Redtail and suddenly a door got opened (not a planned part of the show) which allowed the hawk to see an eagle in the cage across the compound.

It was ON! That bird was going to break it’s leash and beat its brains out against the bars in it’s attempt to get to a bird that could kill it with one strike.

Thanks for the fascinating article, I always love reading success stories!

Toss a church key in the basket. Sometimes it is just the perfect tool for the job even if you aren’t trying to open a can.

That’s what’s important. Spot deserves the top shelf gin!

I love watching thunderstorms, AZ did some amazing ones back when there were still monsoons. I’ve never seen/been exposed to a typhoon, of course that will be exciting. Wildfires get boring after a while.

Is that wacky weather for your neck of the woods or have you been there long enough to know?

Everyone here tells me that the weather has gone odd the last few years.

Despite the cooler temps, I can tell that spring is here. Plants are blooming, my allergies are going nutz and the birds are coming back. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Oops, Mom on the phone. BBL

I’m not quite sure what this is about but I will point out that for a couple dollars Amazon will sell you a bag of way too many of the small rubber bands that orthodontists use with conventional braces. They come in a bewildering array of sizes and strengths. Amazon.com : orthodontic elastics.

Which raises an interesting question.

I never had the classic “railroad track” braces. I fought back too hard as a kid for parents to waste the dough on me and later as an adult when I did get them fixed they had already invented Invisalign so I did that instead of railroad tracks.

But what is the purpose of the common elastics that connect the upper & lower arch? What are the orthods trying to do? Is it pulling the lower jaw forward or aft? Pulling the mouth closed to retrain congenital mouth-breathers? Strengthening the mouth opening muscles?

They apply additional force to what the wires are doing. Mostly for correcting bites (over, under, and cross) and closing gaps.

I’m sorry to hear of the break up.

I can’t remember the last time I heard about faxes, all of my doctors want to use their online portal for everything since covid. Well, except for my current doctor, he wants me to call his office because many of his patients don’t get along with the internet. That’s what happens when over 20 percent of the population is over 65.

Fingers crossed!

I’m not a huge fan of Guinness but that’s because Hubs makes the best IPA’s evah. It is piney and citrusy and tastes like really good weed.

Not being Irish, I’m currently enjoying a nice hard cider. Now that I’m living somewhere that cider is made locally, I’ve found that I really do like it a lot. It almost makes up for folks putting coke in Margaritas.

If you didn’t throw up too, it probably wasn’t food poisoning. Assuming that you ate the same food as him that is.

I’m glad he’s feeling better.

Gentle hugs. I am so sorry, I know you were so very hopeful that this would help and then to end up in so much pain is just not right.

If there is anything I can do from afar, please do not hesitate to ask!

Well, obviously you are falling down on the job!!!

I’ve been seeing (and laughing at) pics of a snow covered door sill with one critter foot print leading out. You can just tell that one foot in the snow was enough to make them nope right out!

It sounds like quite the saga. But…you are almost done and then you can relax a little.

I am so sorry. I really did like you being all giddy in love and lust with someone who felt the same about you.

If you didn’t already move your money offshore, you weren’t paying attention. Of course, that will just kick the can down the road, but at least we will all go down together. Have you ever watched “Don’t look up”? It is oddly prophetic.

BTW, I’m trying to blur the political stuff. Some folks don’t want to read it and I do understand so this is my compromise.

That’s just crazy talk! You’re retired fer crying out loud, ain’t no reason for you to be on the roads during rush hour. What a good way to ruin your whole day.

I hope it goes well and that the scrubbing isn’t as bad as it looks. (would renting a pressure washer make things easier?)

I hate it when that happens. I’m quite sure that you said many wise words as well as making some good jokes!

So, when I was gone today, the freezer door got left open for long enough to melt ice and soften food. Happily, I don’t keep our meat in there, it was mostly frozen veggies and meal sized containers of cooked food. It is getting harder to find good food safety info online anymore so I pitched the soft stuff and filled the dishwasher with the empty containers.

I need to find a way to make those doors self closing. Alarms won’t work, he’s too deaf to hear them even if he’s not killing monsters. I have been looking at amazon keep clicking through to the company and learning that it is china crap.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. (no worries about the stove, he doesn’t use it because I pre-cook everything so he can just heat his food in the microwave)

Thank you. As I might have said in an earlier MMP, we spent 16 days together within arm’s reach of each other every moment except when somebody was pooping. Every second of that time was blissful. We were magic together. Sigh.

Forgot to mention earlier. I’ve made no provisions for Guinness today. but in general it’s tasty good stuff. if a bit bloat-inducing now that i very rarely drink beer.

Up from naptime. Having Guinness with a cheeseburger with porter infused Cheddar. Spot is fighting an ice cube.

Best choice. It’s easier to measure up than down.

Oooooo

Sorry there’s a mess on top of the grief.

{{{{sticky}}}}

That makes sense.

I’m sorry, Pilot

Atlanta Coke, or Colombian coke?

Why can’t it be both?

Although as we all know, at one time Atlanta coke included the same stuff as Colombian coke is now. Just sourced differently.

Good evening all. While learning about all the machines and weight training stuff today, I managed to fall on my butt (there were handles on the weight machine that I needed to stand up to grab and when I went to sit I plumb missed the (small) seat and landed on the floor. I was fine at the time, but now I have a sore spot on my right butt cheek that hurts when I sit down, which is something I do quite often). Still managed ok, then went by the soccer fields and watched for a little while and then went back to the gym for a little swimming. Burger King provided the evening repast and now I am just killing time until sleepage will occur. Still cool out, but the skies at least are clear.

Sticky Buns, being in pain like that is no fun; I hope it is getting better.

Piper, guess they call in the Great White North for a reason.

VanGo, well, at least we know where Murphy was today…

Pilot, I am sorry that things didn’t work out for you and BB, you seemed like such a compatible couple and were good for each other, but life finds a way to f*** things over I am afraid. Take a little time for yourself and let the hurt heal (says the guy who has never been married). And sounds like you have the right attitude, hopefully better times are coming.

FCM, I think the earliest I’ve ever made an appointment was for 8am, I am surprised that the dentist office is even open at 7.

Rilch, he’s your friend so I may be out of line, but Brandon sounds like a (needle being inserted lightly into your finger).

Coppertone, it sure sounds like he’s interested…

JtC, that’s standing up for your rights as an American!

And it’s closing in on 10pm, so need to finish the day’s internetting and head off to slumberland. Catch y’all on 2sDay.

The latch thingie I installed when Buddy was hanging out on top of the fridge a lot seems to do well, as long as you can be sure he’ll push it closed far enough for said latch to engage.

How nice! Hopefully you’ll be a return customer, language barriers be damned.

I am so sorry. Hold on to those memories, she seems like a good person to have known.

That would be either “dafuq” or “bye Felicia” depending on my mood.

Thank you for sharing. :baby_chick: And I agree, peep things are better than the candy and they last longer.

Oof. Just when you think you’ve reached the finish line. Do you have to remove it later?

That’s the spirit! (Or an excuse for spirits.) Sorry it ended and I hope you have fun on your cruise.

Beautiful! We only have tiny (people-sized) ones.

Last night I baked a lemon blueberry cake which I tend to underbake. So this time I used a thermometer and got it closer to the desired outcome. Next time I’ll wait until it’s one degree warmer and then pull it out.

Baking: science + food = YUM

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot i doing zoomies, which are athletic and majestic till there’s not enough traction

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/39f with a predicted high of 10c/49f and sunny. Weather app says “Have you ever noticed it’s either too fucking hot, too fucking cold, or too fucking mild outside?” Perhaps, perhaps not.

We’re being kind and leaving all the Guinness for doggio

Rilch I am sorry that your friend’s passing has so much drama attached to it, I hope Mr Rilch can find a way to make it work so he can be there for the funeral. Sounds like he is very important to everyone. Also, my oddball kitchen gadget is a RoboStir - a little battery-operatored stirring thing. Used it once, it was unsuccessful.

That all sounds perfectly horrible. I hope the doc’s office calls you back and has at least an apology to offer. Hope you’re feeling better by now too.

I am sorry to read this, you two seemed so compatible and happy together. I read your last post about moving in together and wondered how you would make things work with your life of leisure and her work routine. I suppose that question has now answered itself. Good luck with the new chapter of your life, I think a few days away by yourself to clear your head is a very good idea.

The tree is still there, it’s just somewhat shorter than it was before! Pollarding prunes the top section of a tree to encourage sturdier growth of the lower section. It’s very common here, especially with trees of this size and age.

Not a lot to report from over here today. Yesterday I worked, did grocery shopping, did an exercise class and made dinner. I ventured outside in the dark to haul the biiiiiig recycling bin out to the kerb for collection in the morning. I was in bed at a reasonable time because I still have the lurgy, it’s getting neither better nor worse.

This morning the binmen came along just after 7am and I heard them emptying our bins so when I got up, I went outside to haul the biiiiiig bin back to where it lives. Then sorted litter trays, fed the cats and made myself some porridge for breakfast. Irking at home today, I have a load of laundry in the wash, I have peeled and cooked veggies for campus lunches, and later I’ll put some chicken in the oven to bake (also for campus lunches).

In between, I shall be doing bits and pieces of irk. One of my minions has messaged asking for help with something so I’ll see what she needs. After irk, I will finish doing campus food, then have a bit of sofa time, make dinner and go to bed early as I have to be up at the crack of sparrow’s fart on Wednesday.

What the ever-lovin’ what??? I’m not much of a drinker, but even I cringe at that. Assuming you mean the cola and not the narcotic…

The road isn’t the issue - the traffic goes down 235 to the base - no one rushes down 5 to Leonardtown. It’s even too early for the middle school buses.

We have one, so no need to rent, but no, it’s not a viable option. We don’t want the oily, degreaser-filled waste water to go into the bilge and be pumped into the river. So we spray the cleaner, scrub, spray clean water, wipe up with rag, lather-rinse-repeat.

As for the 7AM appointment, I’m surprised they open that early also. Maybe for people who work normal hours? Anyway, it’s time for me to head out.

Happy Moanday!!

Pilot, I was just thinking about you yesterday. My heart sank when I read your post. I wish you the absolute best.

JtC, yes, I believe you did the right thing in throwing away that food. That’s one thing that I find surprising is how much I miss my one friend since she passed away. She was the one who was a dietitian and instructor. I can still hear her saying, “When in doubt, throw it out!.”

Thankfully my leg is a little bit better today. I find that if I do an over-pronounced limp and do not bend my leg that I’m pretty much ok. I took off the bandaids this morning. I wish they would have told me this, but apparently it’s normal for significant swelling and bruising at the injection locations. I hope they’ll have some better news when they call me back.

Today Annie and I are just going to chill as much as we can. I hope everyone has a good day!

Just got to the office. Sitting in the lobby while they have a team meeting. Future appointments will be later - mostly because of driving in the dark - not a good thing.

At least there’s wifi here.

Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 41 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and N.O.S. Today is laundry day. Be still my heart. Sup will be grilled poke chops, boxed Cajun rice (don’t judge!), peas ‘n carrots, and rolls. Of course, we will indulge in RDOS inactivities.

Coppertone looks to me like he could be smitten, but maybe shy about askin’ you out.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Well, we’re getting side-swiped by some of these late winter storms that are pounding the country. It’s actually been a pretty mild winter this year other than a spell of sub-zero.

I’ve been dentificated and my toofies are good for another 6 months. Next appt, I get a panoramic x-ray since it’s been 10 years - yoiks!

While the hygienist was doing her thing, I got to thinking about when I was a kid - the dentist did it all. In fact, I don’t know if there was such a thing as a dental hygienist. Dr. Hoffman examined and cleaned, all while humming. And he had a spit sink, not the little suction hose thingie. I wonder when it started to change…

Once it warms a bit more, we’ll head to the marina. I’ll have to change first - not going to mess up my good sneaks and jeans. I’ll don grubbies.

Good times ahead!

Happy Tuesday morning posting to you! Yes, you! I’m up, and one cup of coffee into the day. Last night, we had corned beef hash and cabbage.
No, Rilchiam, my apple corer was something like a steel sleeve, open on one side so you could push out the core when you were done. Like I said, it usually missed by a few degrees. I think I once had one like the one in your link, but the apple kept falling off the spindle. Now, it goes like this: 1. Wash the apple and my hands with hand soap, and dry them with a towel. 2. Cut in half, along the estimated center. 3. Cut each half into thirds, then cut each of those into thirds. 4. On each wedge, cut out what visually seems to be the core, and cut off the wrapped-around piece of the skin that the washing couldn’t reach. I leave the rest of the peel on. 5. Arrange the wedges on a plate, and dust a little cinnamon on each slice.

Now that I wrote it all down, it seems complicated, but I can do it in less time than it took me to type it all out.
**Pilot, ** I’m sorry to hear about the breakup. I have no advice; I’ve been married once and never divorced. The one time I gave advice to somebody in a breakup, the guy ignored my advice, and it came out very, extremely, terribly wrong. If there’s an emoji for that, I don’t want to click on it.

FCM, I’ve had the panoramic dental X-ray a few times. I’m a bit too tall for the machine. The whole rig will raise and lower to match your height, unless you’re 6 ft. 4 in. So, the dental tech ran it all the way up, and I had to semi-crouch and angle my head up to where I “bite here, and put your forehead here.” At times, I wish I wasn’t so tall. (Yes, I know that’s supposed to be subjunctive, but “weren’t” didn’t feel right.)
