Oddly enough, in a state as red as one in the mid-south can be, I’ve not seen very many.
We have a Nice park, although I’m not sure who it’s named for.
I hope that you feel better soonest taters and that the clean up isn’t too aggravating.
I hope that the plague goes away soonest!
There was a surprise at irk this afternoon: my supe awarded ACE points (rewards) to the four of us on the inventory accuracy team after our count this weekend (99% accuracy after the cycle count’s error was voided). This is the first time I’ve received them from my own supervisor (I’ve gotten recognized by other supes) since I’ve been in a production department.
On the home front, the kids across the fence are at it with the soccer balls hitting my building again. One this evening put a crack in my storm door window. My next door neighbor grabbed the ball and told the kid that he wouldn’t get it back until the door was repaired (he just had a window replaced for the same reason). While I like to see them play outside, I do wish it was with some adult supervision and they’d be more careful.
Sounds like your day got a little better after this. I’m glad.
I hope the rest of your day was better.
WetOne, I hope you’re feeling better, too.
Congratulations!
Not too much going on here. My mom has a doctor’s appointment up North on Thursday and we’re going to visit one of my friends who is in a nursing home, so we went to Dollar Tree to accumulate items to use to make her a gift. Tomorrow’s job will be gift production. I’m not exactly sure what I’m making yet, but something silly that is pasta related because we’ve had a joke about pasta for years.
Just finished treading the mill while watching a documentary on Gene Wilder on Netflix… well, half of it. The rest is for tomorrow. Now I’m having some grapes before restarting the crochet.
First thing in the morning, I need to go to the local Wal-Mart because the one I went to today didn’t have everything I wanted. But I just need 3 or 4 things, so quick trip. I hope.
I’ve got a broken window, too. DH texted me to alert me to the boarded-up window so I wouldn’t freak out about it when I got home (temp gig this week and at least part of next, county elections dept. phones). Mine was an oops by maintenance doing exterior repairs. No word on when they’ll fix it.
DH is trying to fix the shredder after its switch failed (he reports it a bit melted, which has me seriously questioning keeping this one, but we can’t find a comparable one in a sane-ish price range).
Allie greeted me with rather urgent demands for supper, Buddy’s hiding in the bed.
There are very few children in this complex, and they almost never trick-or-treat here, since the mall is so close. The gates close at 6, so trick-or-treaters don’t come in, either. I miss seeing the costumes and eager faces, but that’s the way it goes.
Like FCM, when I was a kid, trick-or-treating started at as soon as we got home from school and into our costumes, because few moms had careers/jobs back then, though my mom did. We’d tromp around our neighborhood (9 blocks) until dinner time. My siblings went out again, but I always opted to stay home in the evenings because my legs ached and I liked giving out candy.
I didn’t miss out on candy because all our loot went into a huge bowl and became common fodder. As parochial school kids, we got to sleep in the next morning, as it was All Saints Day, but Mom had to go teach (public school), so she hid the candy, which we’d find, scavenge, and put back before she got home.
In kindergarten, we got to wear our costumes to school. I was a fairy. I wore a pink hand-me-down flower girl dress that was my cousin’s, then my sister’s. No wings, but my very busy mom covered a dowel with foil and, lacking time to make a star, made a curlicue out of foil for the top and assured me it was legit. At 2:30 we trooped over to the main school building. The wind blew off my curlicue and inhaled the foil. By the time we paraded around the classrooms, my costume was Little Girl with a Stick. It still makes me chuckle.
I was going to vote today, but the ballot box fire in Vancouver has given me pause. I usually vote on Election Day, as I make a little ritual out of it, but maybe early voting is a better idea so fewer votes have to be counted on the big day. Tomorrow is shot day, and I have Ms. Dog on Halloween, so maybe I’ll go Friday. I love voting!
The latest on the Mysterious Upstairs Apartment is that TPTB replaced the carpet/flooring today. They did that before the Meth-and-Stomp Family moved in, and the Porn Couple were only there for a week at most, so cue the eerie whistle.
I see what you did there!
Much as I loathe puking, I vote for itching as the worse, as it’s nonstop and when nothing helps, it’s torment. Internet Legend (I don’t know your Mumper name), I hope she improves dramatically and fast. Is there an alternative to the prednisone?
I must have blocked out the button. I saw The Fly and was so squicked out by the last line and the ensuing brick that I vowed no more horror movies. The exception was She Devil, the 1957 horror movie (NOT the Meryl Streep version) that’s delightfully campy and not disturbing. Oh, how I wanted that hair power!
Obligatory joke: I’d give him a hand, but he’s probably full.
Ugh. So sorry. If it helps any, I’ll be sloshing not far away, as it’s shot day. I hope the stomach crud and headache vanish pronto!
FCM, your MIL reminds me of my mom in her last few years.
Me: What did you have for breakfast, Mom?
Mom: Oh, I had a BIIIG breakfast! I had a whole hard-boiled egg and half a yogurt!
Jack Batty, so you made a moving picture? (Yuk, yuk, yuck.) Great gag!
red, what kind of rewards do those ACE points earn? And congrats!
Well, nothing says, “I like you” like that fancy gift made from a cigar box, macaroni, and gold spray paint. I mean, Mom said it was nice!
As swampy will attest, my sister would decorate high heel shoes with macaroni, flowers, and other stuff, sprayed with silver or gold paint. Classy! I may try to find a pic tomorrow.
It’s been a sleepy day, not much got done. I have a list of phone calls to make and I just hate phone calls.
My son got off at 4 this morning. It was hard to get up.
I’m ready to knock the crap out of the dogs, especially Misiu.
This morning, they wouldn’t come into the garage. Well, Echo came in but the GR wouldn’t. Finally, Misiu walked up and just as I was telling him Good Boy! he tapped Echo on the shoulder and said TAG! You’re it! and off they all went.
i should leave the boys home, they will be okay. I don’t trust Echo not to dig a hole under the fence and try to follow me.
I’m looking at electric blankets. I want to get a cordless one.
I don’t know why I am so cold at night. The last time I was like this my iron was low, but it’s good now.
I’ve thought about getting a double door fridge. I like the ones with the freezer on the bottom. I’m not sure we can squeeze one in the spot though.
The fridge I have is old. It’s white, with little chips of paint?enamel? missing. The plastic handle are stained because the people before the people before me smoked. I like the freezer on the bottom, my son doesn’t.
There’s a bar in the kitchen I want to take out. It’s under the window and the previous owner left two stoold behind. We never use it for anything other than putting stuff on it. I’ll never sit at it. One, because I’m short and stools are uncomfortably. But mostly two, the view is of the neighbor’s back yard. Their trash cans, the potting shed, the trampolene. It’s the only spot that I can see them and I assume if they stare in the window, they can see me.
I don’t have curtains in that window. I guess I could hang some and stare at the curtains while sitting there. There’s not enough space to put in base cabinets, but I could probably find something to put there that would give me more storage space.
Back when AZ had monsoons, the humidity would rise a good ten points and we could really feel it so I do kinda remember, I just don’t remember the humidity making it feel warmer when it was under 70F. Maybe that’s just because it didn’t get under 70F during monsoon season.
Which is the important part!
There are some signs but I saw more in my old neighborhood than I have in this admittedly very small state. The signs in AZ said things like “Trump Won! Fuck Your Feelings!” which I didn’t think was great for kids to see on their way to school, but that’s probably just me.
That’s a very clever workaround. I hope your new bed fits properly and that you sleep well.
That’s kinda rude. Not everyone wants a smart phone. I’m thinking that I don’t anymore, the only thing I use my phone for is taking pics, texting friends and calling Mom. I would be very annoyed if I couldn’t go places because I had to have one.
I’m so sorry. Drink lots of water and sleep as much as you need, but do feed the kittah on schedule. Our cats always like it when one of use spends the day in bed, as long as the other one is able to feed them on schedule.
Do you have one of those ice ball cutter things? I want one. I need one. I lust for one. I really REALLY want to find a way to justify owning such a thing. That I will play with for a week and then put in a cabinet and forget about because I really have no use for 3 inch ice balls anymore.
Someone once put their trash can in our dumpster. It was empty and the bottom was burnt out like someone had dumped their smoldering fireplace debris into it. HAHA said the trash company when we called them. The cans are numbered and they knew who dumped it. (they also came out and got it out of our dumpster so we could use it for our stuff)
Pain makes me cranky too.
I hope you enjoy the read. Libraries are always happy to get new books if you don’t want to keep the dead tree one.
Never fear, Ursala Kitteh has a clock in her stomach. I’m up in time for brekkie. She finds me at 2:30 for her late lunch/early dinner. I was napping today when the WalMart delivery arrived and she came upstairs to alert me. BTW, 3 more anti UTI pills for her. I may have forgotten yesterday’s pill, but that won’t kill her.
And a quick late evening report. Went back to the gym for an hour or so after dinner to knock off 500 more calories, so early to bed tonight. Looks like the Yankees will win this evening so Oopsie should be pleased.
JtC, not many signs here either, not even for representative or other offices. This is a deep red state so guess the parties don’t see a reason to dump money into it.
red, Congrats on the points! And yeah, soccer balls should be used in a park setting, they can so some damage.
nellie, new flooring may indicate you’ll have new neighbors soon; hopefully some decent ones for a change.
Sari, I’ve heard that Shar-Pei can be strong-willed dogs, your contributions, including today’s, tend to prove the point. Hope there is a handyman available.
And closing in on 10:30pm, so off to dreamland I go. Catch up with y’all tomorrow.
It is amazingly difficult, any more to find basic electronic parts.
When @Seanette and I moved to Sacramento, about twenty years ago, there were Radio Shacks without number all over the place, two Fry’s locations within reasonable range, and a MarVac just a few blocks away from where we used to live in the Midtown grid.
Now, there is only one that I can find, out in Rancho Cordova. The lady who runs it tells me that the two nearest similar stores are in Santa Clarita and in Washington (as in the state, the other side of Oregon).
Anyway, I did find a switch that I think I can make fit the Shredder. In fact, I’ve already hooked it up electrically, and verified that the Shredder now works, but I need now to figure out mounting and wire management before I can consider the shredder to be not-dangerous to have plugged in.
I did not expect to find a switch that was electrically exactly what I wanted, but I did. DPDT with an off in the middle, and one side momentary. But the physical format is different, so I need to figure out safely mounting it differently than the original switch was mounted.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a nice fucking day for a light sweater. It’s a nice fucking day for a cardigan. Courtesy of Billy fucking Idol.” Yes, it’s definitely cloudy but not cold enough for even a light sweater, I’m still wearing sleeveless summer tops to work because everywhere’s hot.
Congratulations! It’s always nice to get that kind of recognition from your own boss.
Will there be pics? Please?
I love to hear about people voting, it’s really disappointing when people say they can’t be bothered to vote because nothing changes And it’ll be a fine end to the week after having Ms Dog too!
Sounds like you have enough plans there to keep a handyman busy for quite a while.
I hope this round of pills sorts her out, you must both be getting fed up with pills and feeling icky.
Removing the need to bend for something is a vital consideration these days!
The Travel Gods were feeling capricious this morning. The bus was in between times so either early or late but it got me to the station in time for the train I usually aim to be on. Today that train was not the usual local scabby service, but it was the nice mainline train (11 carriages instead of 4, much nicer seats) so that was a bonus. Got to Big City Station and everything was running late so I was a bit later getting here but not late enough to be concerned about.
Yesterday evening was busy after irk, I finished making campus food for the week then had half an hour before we needed to go grocery shopping. That was accomplished, stuff was purchased, came home and unpacked into wherever it lives. Then I had some spare time to do nothing while 'im indoors made tacos for dinner.
Today I was up stupidly early to get to campus, tonight I am out with friends for our usual Wednesday pub night assuming everyone’s healthy enough to be out. Tomorrow I have been invited to attend a Language Teaching Committee meeting…not exactly top of my list of fun things to do, but I will go anyway. Then I have two minion meetings during the day so it’ll be another day when not very much gets done.
Plenty of tea drinking to do in the meantime then!
I don’t generally shop at Walmart but one location near us had the Dark Chocolate M&Ms that we like. So far this is the only retail outlet that sells them.
The old commercials for M&Ms stated that they “melt in your mouth, not in your hand” but the last three bags we got from Amazon had melted into one solid unappetizing chunk.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and mostly clear, with a predicted high of 84 and mostly N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Shrimpies shall be bought as we shall have steak and shrimpies, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread for sup. No church sup tonight as it’s trunk or treat night and we don’t do that. Thus there will be plenty of time for RDOS inactivities today.
JBats maybe you caused at least one person years of psychological trauma. Hold on to that thought.
Cookie glad you had a good visit with wife’s niece.
red yay for the recognition! Hope your storm door gets fixed soonest.
Sticky_buns have fun with the pasta craft.
Nettie hope the window gets fixed soonest.
nellie sounds like I should find and watch She Devil Have fun with Ms Dog and do go early vote. I haven’t voted on actual election day in years.
Bob glad you got the switch fixed. I would electrocute myself.
BooFae hope you get to have pub night with your friends.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe!
We’ve been lucky - our cats didn’t eat on a schedule. We have a kibble dispenser and they nosh when they need to. Then again, they didn’t like gooshy food, so maybe they weren’t really cats, but some sort of mutant? Ziva rarely eats during the day, since she’s too busy hiding under the bed. Taz would have a bite or two as he felt the need. So as long as I kept the hopper full, they were fed and happy.
FCD doesn’t so much care about double doors as he wants an ice dispenser. Which means I lose freezer storage space in an area that’s small and narrow to begin with. Even now when I keep us supplied with good ice from the counter top ice maker, he complains about having to bend down to scoop it out of the bin in the lower freezer. Wah wah wah!
How far is the gym from your house?
As promised, my macaroni shoe. It’s silver because it was a 25th anniversary gift.
That’s the late, great Taz inspecting it. And the shoe (N.O.S.) now lives on the basement fireplace mantel.
I’m up and dressed before 7 - last night, I got an attack of the itchies. That seems to happen when I work up a sweat treading the mill, so I showered and all was fine. Which means I didn’t have to shower this morning, which means I got up and dressed without waking FCD, so I can head to the Mart of Wal in a little bit. With luck, I can get my erranding done and be back home before 9. We shall see.
It’s shower day for MIL, but nothing else is planned. I’m making pot roast for supper. Exciting day, huh?
That happened to me when I was in kindergarten. I tried to crawl out from behind the dinner table one night, and pulled a percolator full of hot coffee down on myself. I handed out candy that year, dressed like a mummy.
These days I live in an apartment building that’s inaccessible to random visitors, so trick-or-treaters aren’t really a thing. Also I work nights (2230 - 0700) which isn’t conducive to being able to party.
My sister, OTOH, still has five of her six adult kids living with her, and they really go all out every year. Last year, for instance, there were all kinds of props and decorations that evoked Hitchcock films in their front and side yard (birds, of course; also a “The Trouble With Harry” corpse in the ivy; the trunk with the rope-bound books from “Rope”; a dead Mrs. Bates sitting in a chair in an upstairs window, to name just a few). This year, Linus and Sally are sitting in a pumpkin patch, and the Peanuts gang is out in their costumes. Besides giving candy, they have a movie screen in their garage, and show Halloween-appropriate videos while offering homemade treats, coffee, hot cocoa, and hot apple cider to anyone who wants to stop for a spell.
About 2.5-3 miles, make it there in about 10 minutes depending on the lights.
Good morning all. Started laundry at 6:45am, second load is now washing. My plan (such as it is) is to do the ‘big three’ today, Polo Shirts (in the dryer), Tee shirts (in the washer) and underwear (waiting on-deck). The other items (towels, jeans, and anything else I might have forgot) can wait until Thorsday or Firday. Besides, I’m almost out of Tide Pods. Swimming in the afternoon and need to put the garbage to the curb later on, but that’s the only major items on the agenda.
And another beautiful day, 64F now heading to 80F, almost forgetting I have a HVAC system since I haven’t had to use it for over a week now.The utility bills for November should be kind to me.
Bob-B and Nettie, may I ask what kind of shredder you have? I’ve got a paper shredder that’s fairly good but it was $129 at Staples and wouldn’t be worth the cost and labor to fix (at least for me),
Boo fae, committees are a necessary evil in the office world; which doesn’t keep them from being evil… Enjoy your tea.
Hippie, don’t think I’ve ever tried dark chocolate M&M’s, but I do agree they can melt just fine outside your mouth if you give them the opportunity… And love that switch.
swampy, happy shopping.
FCM, lovely pic and Taz with the photo bomb is great.
Daddie-K, I have a couple of neighbors that have stuff on their lawn, but nothing like your sister’s kids. They really make it a neighborhood party, don’t they?
And need to see if laundry load #2 is done yet. Have a good hump day all.
I survived the Mart of Wal - but then it was pretty early. I was out of there by 8:30. Then a quick run to Food Lion and now I’m home. FCD drugged and fed his mother, and she’s napping till Jessica gets here. And by drugged, I mean he gave her the morning meds prescribed to her. Nothing notorious to see here. He went to get some breakfast and to get his car washed. I’m having some grapes before starting the pot roast in the slow cooker. all in all, a quiet morning so far.
Daughter will come over with the spawn and Trevor on Saturday. She’ll be bringing dirty laundry, and I’ll order pizza for them. FCD and I will have a date. Yay!
