Me: “Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.”
Spot: “Up, overstimulated, and psychotic. Time to eat your hand!”
I’d say so!

It was a lovely example of Rhodesiaiana (I have no idea how to spell that)
The walls has mounted animal heads, mostly impala and springbok, and a few eland. A lion or two. Obviously a bunch of heroic photographs of white men doing miitary stuff.
The bar staff (and this is tragic, to me) wore uniforms from the Rhodesian era, but it was clear they were career bar staff; their uniforms were so worn at the collar that they had been used for years, possibly before I was even born.
Bar service was great, 5 points out of 5
Oh and they did not allow tips. We sneaked over a few notes because even though we were there probably illegally, those staff deserved a tip.
You mean you don’t have a million signs and such in WV? We are surrounded, literally, by trump signs and posters everywhere including most of my neighbors.
This sounds like the opening of a book or a movie.
Today I’ll take MusicMan back to his truck and then I’ll start taking pictures of the things taking up space in my new sleeping area so that I can sell them and get them out of the way. I’m going to be a Friend of Potter as my new bed will reside under the main staircase. It will be snug, but I prefer that to having a bed in my living room for the next year.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 14c/56f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Cloudy with a chance of fucking bullshit.” OK, so not the best out there, but it’s dry so that’s worth a mention.
Yesterday was a tedious work day, nothing particularly exciting and no drama. I took Shadow to the vet for his arthritis injection in the morning, he was a very brave boy and was rewarded with some salmon when I got home. I had to work a bit longer because of the time I’d taken at the vet but that was ok, still nothing much happened.
Logged off, had some sofa time with a book then made dinner, gathered up the recyclables and hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for collection. (JtC take note!!)
The binmen came round while I was still in bed but they obviously found nothing amiss in any of the bins as it looks like they all got emptied. I’ve been out to haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives. At the moment, I have some chicken cooking to use for campus lunches for the rest of the week, and I’ve got some rice in tubs ready to have chicken and veggies added later. Once the chicken’s cooked and cooled, I’ll add that to the tubs, then cook some veggies this afternoon and make three tubs of overnight protein oats as well.
Tonight is grocery shopping, plus I need to nip out and get some petrol as the car’s running on fumes and I’m expecting a price hike for fuel in the budget tomorrow!
I’m kinda in the same situation. FCD hates our fridge (bottom freezer) and I hate his preference (side-by-side.) But the biggest problem is the space - we can’t fit a 36" fridge in there and choices of 33" ones is limited. Actually, I want a complete kitchen do-over. I designed this layout and I blew it. Plus it’s 20 years old and I’m tired of it. If the money fairy would dump a load in my bank account, I could justify it better. Oh well…
Electric blanket?
Glad you like it - I don’t think the pic I shared was a good representation of the color. When I bought it, I had plans, but for the life of me, I don’t remember what they were, so I’m glad it will come to good use!
Wait - are you some kind of commie??? I’ll have to think whether to let you be my friend any more…
When we first moved here, the TV was in the room where I have my computer (no computer back then) aimed at the breakfast bar. Plus we had a sofa in here, so we almost never sat in the living room. Then we moved the TV, and now we use both living room and dining room, and I mostly use this room myself. We do use most of our whole house with MIL here.
I like it. Game over.
MIL just got up, saying something about doing taxes. She’s been having some really weird dreams and she acts like she doesn’t believe us when we tell her so. The descent continues…
My big chore for today is getting my EZPass account up to date. The website won’t let me update my VISA, and two emailed inquiries have gone unanswered. So I’m driving to the office by the Nice Bridge (named for a former governor) hoping they can update it for me. Plus I think my transponder is on the fritz. Other than that, no plans.
FCD wants to take his mother to the marine museum, so I need to get the membership pass on his phone. No more paper cards. I guess if you don’t have a smart phone, you can’t join?? Or something.
And so our day begins. Happy Tuesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 AMURRKIN out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and N.O.S. Today is laundry day. Be still my heart. Other than that it will be the usual RDOS activities. Sup shall be beast stew which I have taken outta da freezer, along with roasted zucchini and yellow squishes, and rolls.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Good morning, everyone.
It’s 48F, dark and cloudy outside. Between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., we expect a little rain, followed by mostly cloudy skies with afternoon sun breaks. The expected high temperature is 58F.
Tomorrow is expected to be pretty soggy. Of course it is! I must commute to the office, plus we’re having the Great Office Clean-Up. Frankly, I’m irritated to be participating in this at all because I spent months cleaning every empty (but filled with crap) cube, the office spaces, the warehouse, and the common areas pretty much on my own. Throughout the Great Records Shipping project, many cubes became filled with junk, plus as people departed, they just left their crap.
Additionally, some folks decided to break down their cheesy Unicor “executive” furniture and left the giant pieces blocking the aisles in the warehouse. I commented on the above during a couple of executive leadership team meetings, and then the SD decided everyone must come to the office to clean. How much do you want to bet that the only people cleaning will be the ELT, which consists of me, the SD, the DSD, and two of the Program Directors? Plus, the two MPAs will be assisting.
I’m just cranky because I don’t feel well this morning. It’s been pretty rough: a bad night of sleep followed by a rocky time in the bathroom. It took me forever to shower, dry, and straighten my hair because I had to lie down several times due to nausea. I’m hoping the nausea passes soon; I have shit to do today, plus a couple of deadlines are coming up fast, and I want to be done with those projects. My head is pounding, too, so that doesn’t help. I’ve taken some Ibuprofen to help with the headache, but it’s not kicking in. In a bit, I’ll try some soda crackers to soak up some of that crap roiling around in my stomach. The good news is I’m working from home, so if things don’t improve, I can take some leave and return to bed.
I hope today is a relatively smooth day at work. I know it’ll be tedious, but it would be good if there weren’t any fires to put out or employees to soothe.
As for TorTers, the lights will be off at my home. It’s just too much with the pups. Maisie would lose her everlovin’ mind every time the doorbell rang. Buster isn’t as “barky”, but when he barks, it’s deafening and very deep.
Alrighty, I need to finish loading the dishwasher. Wishing you all a good day.
I feel like cRap. Still no fever but fatigued. Got up an hour ago and am going back to bed after breakfast.
Morning all. Just finished my Big Bowl O’Cereal and an apple so stomach is in a good mood. 61F and getting to 80F during the day, which will be another dry one. Am donating some soccer referee shirts that are 2XL (I’m down to XL now) to a new ref that can use them so need to meet up with him and get my good deed for the week in. Sloth and gym are the only other things on the schedule.
FCM, I don’t know why, i just never developed a taste for peanut butter; must have been a family thing, I can’t remember my Mom ever picking it up in the store for any of us when we were young. And afraid I’m with FCD on the refrigerator, I love having the side-by-side design.
Sipper, great stories of life in a part of the world most of us have never visited. I’ve been to several places in Africa on vacation but except for a brief trip across the Victoria Falls bridge (and lunch there), never really seen Zimbabwe.
Sticky Buns, haven’t seen many campaign signs here either, but of course this is Ali-bama and it hasn’t voted for anyone more liberal than Ronald Reagan since Reconstruction ended in 1876…
boo fae, your working meals sound great, hope you gas up before they crank up the prices.
swampy, I also need to have a laundry day, actually maybe two days as I can easily see me having 5-6 loads to do. Have penciled in Wednesday and Thursday since the weekend will be dominated by the local soccer tournament.
Taters, hope the Office cleanup goes better than you fear, and that you feel better for the activity,
Feel better soon, Wet one; additional bed time seems to be a good idea.
And i think I’m caught up. Have a good 2dDay all.
Have you ever tried sweet tangos? We started getting them a month or two ago. They’re wonderful IMHO.
In the Midwest I grew up with Jonathon apples that we picked. They are difficult to find around here.
T
fcm, our office fridge has the best of both types. double fridge doors with freezer bottom.
i have lots of really fun ice trays. right now i have leaves, pumpkin, turkeys, and acorns. those would be a bit difficult in a bottom freezer.
i so like the logic of the bottom freezer, cold air falling thing. just need to be able to use the ice trays.
Light volume in the heaving, even with having to help in the Mez, the slide didn’t fill up. I did my Aldi run afterwards.
Some twat waffle filled the giant Recycling Dumpster with trash, even though it RECYCLING ONLY on the front of it.
Best I can offer is Ziva dumping a load in the litterbox.

This morning’s walk was a real slog for some reason. Couldn’t keep dark thoughts out of my head, so I cut it short. Also, the hip pain was flaring. Feeling cranky.

Last night’s Zoom interview with author Louise Penny was alright. I’m not usually one for author interviews or meet-and-greets, but I’ve read 18 of her books (#19 was released today: I just downloaded it to my Kindle! yay!) and I was curious about her. Other authors I’ve read 15+ books by include David Baldacci, JK Rowling/Robert Galbraith, Jim Butcher, Stephen King, and John Grisham. I’m not sure if the interview was worth the price of the ticket – which included buying a physical copy of the book that likely won’t arrive before I’ve finished reading the ebook – but I’m also not sure that it wasn’t. At the very least, it was short.
After the interview, the Yankees took another step toward getting swept out of the World Series: the Dodgers now lead the seven-game series 3-0. I’d really been hoping that being back in NYC would shake something loose. I’m still optimistic about tonight’s game 4, but if the Dodgers win again that’s all she wrote.* I’m staying up way too late for these games: the 8:08pm(+) starts aren’t very friendly to those of us with day jobs, but I’ll gladly keep hanging in there if we can force a game 5 (or more)! If we lose the WS tonight, though, the silver lining is that I’ll get to start reading my new book sooner rather than later.
*I nearly typed “that’s the ballgame”…heh!
Part of me is still struggling to accept that Halloween is in two days…and November starts on Friday…and the clocks change Sunday morning…and the election is a week from today. My internal calendar is not caught up!
Right?? 9 weeks of waiting for property management – only to get as far as “I could come measure the door today” – vs 9 calendar days start to finish with Home Depot (assuming tomorrow goes smoothly ). I mean, come on.
I hope the soda crackers helped/stayed down!
It’s always so much fun when the mental and physical team up against you…ugh.
We took MIL to the marine museum, then to DQ for a late lunch. She ate half a chili dog and half an ice cream cone, then declared “I’m so full full full full full…” So I won’t be making supper. Easy evening for me.
Sunday is FCD’s b-day - I’m going to try to get Daughter to come stay with her grandma so I can take my sweetie out to eat. We shall see.
Its 76 degrees out. Almost November.
I will enjoy it while I can.
I went shopping and got lettuce, tomatos, cheese, and chickpeas so supper will be easy.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. We also et an early sup or late N.O.L. dependin’ on how you look at it.
Taters, WetOne and Cookie hope y’all are feelin’ better.
I just thought of this the other day. I’m not sure if I’ve relating this story here before (probably), but it always tickles me when I think of it.
Years ago I worked for a food service company in the computer room. These were the days of big mainframes and giant magazines of floppy discs that had to be shuffled and switched and monitored and all that shit. That was my job - run the back ups at night and the store the discs at an off-site location. The off-site location was our sales office which was right down the street. In this sales office there was a long hallway with pictures of food products lining the wall. A plate of spaghetti, a rack of beef, a full dinner table, a hotdog and hamburger, that sort of stuff. I think there were like forty different pictures all about 12" by 12" or so hanging on hooks.
There was this one picture of a roast beef that had this weird green tinge to it that made it look like some alien foodstuff. Each night I would take the picture of that green roast beef and move it down one so by the end of forty days it would end up being the picture at the far end of the hallway. Then I’d start to move it back until, forty days later, it was at the near end of the hallway. I had that position for over a year. I moved that roast beef every single night I was in that office at night. It must have migrated its way up and down the hallway a dozen times.
I never told anyone I was doing this and to this day I wonder if I caused anybody any sort of psychological harm. Like there was one neurotic admin who just knew that picture was moving but was too afraid to tell anyone. I can only hope.
On the plus side, the wife’s niece came over. I made a batch of chicken enchiladas and we all vented about the election while stuffing ourselves.
Uniforms have been donated and calories sweated, so sitting here waiting for my daily TV dose and then will be thinking about dinner. 78F outside, hope this weather lasts well into November, even if it means I have to mow the lawn a couple more times.
Haven’t looked for them, I tend towards Red Delicious, Gala, and Cosmic Crisp but will keep my eyes open next shopping trip/
{{Cookie}}, hope the crankiness is abating.
Oopsie, nice to be able to talk to an author you’ve read so much of. And yeah, even with a 7pm start (CST), the games run pretty late.
FCM, bet she’s hungry again come dinner time…and hope you and FCD cn get some ‘me’ time Sunday.
J-Bats, nice story and you’d think somebody would have noticed it…
And just about time for my must-see TV (Pardon the Interruption on ESPN).
