(Old) Trick-Mump Treat! - A Halloween MMP

I’m just back from taking trash and recycling - wearing shorts!!! We’re looking for low 80s today, then low-to-mid 60s on Saturday. Such strange weather.

I ran rollsuck in all but the hallway and bedrooms, as I didn’t want to wake MIL. Dishwasher is now emptied and it’s too early for lunch, so I’ll assume the crochet position and continue work on my latest - I think it’s going to be solid green - at least that’s how it’s started. I may or may not put a stripe in the middle.

Onward!

that is a seriously good day at work. i would have really enjoyed working with you on that project.

i got 3rd place at the office yest… weds. addams and a panda came in 1st and 2nd. i stopped by the store where i bought the leopard coat and thanked them.

we went from 29 in the office yest. to 10 today. today i have a scooby doo shirt and hat.

looking forward to the trick or treat event tonight.

our condo is a polling station so any left over goodies will go there for workers and voters.

I guess I’ll do laundry.

Costumes complete, just on time (17:30)
Drinkng a celebration beer, alone.

Happy Halloween.

Wind and rain this morning. I went down to attend exercise, then left before it started. Looks to be a do-nothing day unless I talk myself into making bread.

So the automatic dispatch system decided to move 3 trucks form the 100 North Boxline to Brown 120. At 0730(go time for package cars was 0900). :grimacing: Even running 80% through the return belt, I still had to drag 100+ packages off the belt. And the re were also 4-5 load listed in the wrong place. Glad I’m not gonna be on tomorrow’s conference call. I did my Senior Day shopping. They have my favorite seasonal beer back in stock < and there was much rejoicing >

Udon yet?

Congrats! I dress up as a functioning member of society today.

I’m gonna be a rebel and do it tomorrow.

Hark! hark! The dogs do bark!
The demons are coming to town!
Some in rags and some in bags!
And some in velvet gowns!

And just how do you know what one of them looks like??? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m biting back a great big I-TOLD-YOU-SO. Months ago, I asked FCD to deal with something regarding his mom’s health insurance. He didn’t, and the doo-doo hit the fan. Today I managed to figure out what it was, but I just told him everything is straightened out. Left it at that. Besides, I doesn’t really matter, since Medicare covers everything associated with hospice, so the insurance she got from FIL’s retirement no longer mattered. So that’s that. For now. I hope.

The forecasted flurry turned into heavy snow when the system stalled. It’s three hours since I last posted and it’s still coming down hard. Cars are covered and so is anything not pavement, although I’m seeing slush accumulation on the walks below my window. It’s likely to drop below freezing tonight.

I caved to my craving for herb-parmesan bread, and the loaf just came out of the oven in all its glorious fragrence.

Well, the Yankees basically handed the World Series to the Dodgers last night. :sob: But it was a good series, and LA played well. And, frankly, I’m ready to have my weeknights back.

In other news, though, pitchers and catchers report in 103 days. (I love baseball!)

It’s been an interesting couple of days. Tuesday night I got asked for last-minute, emergency help fixing a proposal section that had been through a final review but needed a lot of work by noon today, and that’s pretty much all I’ve been doing since then. I worked a couple hours Tuesday night (with my laptop in the living room in front of the ballgame), was heads-down all day yesterday (I didn’t even eat lunch), worked a couple more hours last night (laptop in LR redux), and this morning I spent a few hours helping with another section. I’ve been done since a litt for a couple of hours. Between all of that and the late baseball games, I could use a nap right about now! :joy:

Part of why I didn’t eat lunch yesterday is because I had to pause working for about 90 minutes while my new storm door got installed! Yay!! I’m really happy with it. The full view looks great (the previous door was 3/4 view), and the retractable screen – connected to the top pane – works wonderfully. I really love only seeing a screen when I want to. I also love that the lock is sturdier than the old one, which could easily be defeated if someone just pulled on the door a bit, and that I can lock it from the outside if I want. And it doesn’t slam shut! Also, Bailey doesn’t seem to miss having a screen at nose-height: she still gets the smells with the screen at the top, plus I think she can actually see a little better with no screen. I’ll take a picture of it/the front of the house after the landscaping work is done next week, but this is what I got (white finish, clear glass, “modern matte black” hardware).

It’ll be nice to have no work or baseball tonight. I have a new book to read that I’ve been looking forward to, but I’m too tired to start it today. I’ve only had it since Tuesday; one more day won’t kill me. So, this evening, Bailey and I will be hiding from the trick-or-treaters in a darkened house while I watch my copies of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and either Practical Magic or Hocus Pocus. I’m another who almost can’t believe today is Halloween: it’s 80°F and sunny right now!

Husband BFF is into Kit-Kats with unusual flavors/from other countries, and Amazon has a couple of variety packs of Japanese Kit-Kats that I’ve been thinking of getting him for Christmas. I’m kind of worried that they’ll arrive melted, even though it’ll be December!

Oooo…what brand?

Awww. :frowning:

Nice!

That’s always how it is… *sigh*

I got these. My legs don’t look anywhere near that good in them. You tear both Achilles at different times, and the docs screw up stich removal…I’ve got mis-matched legs and skin graft scars.

Bread is indeed the best thing to eat and bake. I just tried a new challah recipe and it came out lovely. I used a new to me five strand braid.

Howdy Y’all! Duty got did and we were bears who brunch. Then it was nappage followed by day drinkin’. Also I made a peach cobbler just cause. Had a conversation about the purity of liquid paraffin as well. That involved me explaining why the more expensive stuff is better due to it burnin’ cleaner and also is unscented. Strange conversation that was. Soon it will be Netflix, chill, popcorn, cobbler and ice cream time. WOOHOO!!!

taters glad it went well yesterday.

Coppertone sorry you didn’t get your dentures today. Maybe soon.

Oopsie yay for the new door. Is the World Series over now?

Alas, I am no better today, so far, anyway. I text text d Ms. Dog’s person to say I can’t dog-sit today, and she said she’s down with stomach crud, too, and is staying home. I have a headache, probably from not eating or drinking anything because I’m a-skeert to. What goes down must come up.

This is such golden advice.

Cool! I had a regular KitKat from Britain once, and it tasted dull and bland because I’ve been corrupted by the American tendency to use loads of sugar. In fact, I’m ashamed to say I didn’t taste much sweetness and threw it away. Mea Culpa. Now pass the Snickers, darn it.

Oh, and FWIW, I found over the years that KitKats were consistently the favorite candies of Wyoming teen students, followed closely by Reese’s PB Cups. The strangest candy I passed out was the time kids could choose either lollipops or Fruity Flutes, which were hard candy made into a little flute. They played a single, piercing note that made ears bleed and neighborhood dogs whimper. (I banned playing them in my classroom. Other teachers were thrilled./s

Anyway, at first the boys were self-conscious and wouldn’t pick Fruity Flutes, but when they saw how cool they were, they all wanted them. Kids begged for them after that, but I couldn’t find any. I just now googled, and nope.

I’m in awe. I tried a five-strand braid once. Let’s just say there’s a reason I never French braided my daughter’s hair.

Whoa. That sounds awful. How do docs screw up stitch removal, if I may ask? I’ve removed my own stitches. I’m guessing these were very complex? I’m sorry you went through that.

Doggio, loved the cartoon. Whenever I see that your post includes a cartoon, I get happy. Is that a cyclops ghost?

Achilles repair is tough. They had to find the end of the ruptured tendon, some way up my calf. Sew it back together, then close the skin over the damage. They took the stitches out after about a week and a half, which wasn’t long enough, the incision opened back up, I could actually see my sewn together tendon, and I ended with a graft. They took some skin from the side of my ankle and kind of folded it around the back, then put a skin graft from the back of my butt to fill in the missing bit. Skin graft removal sight is probably the worst pain I’ve ever had.

And the friggin Jehovas found me while I was in recovery from that whole thing. I was, at that time, heating the house mostly with wood, so I happened to be outside, in the snow, with my foot in one of those boots, with an axe. No more visits from Jehovas. No, I didn’t hit the Jehovas with the axe, I think I just scared them, enough so that they let their brethren know not to visit casa Paint.

When I was at the baking school in Kansas we had quite a number of international students. There were six or seven students from Japan. In the 80’s Japan hadn’t had a long tradition of Western bread but they did have a craft involving braiding different numbers of cords. I got to copy off a manual they brought with them, of how to do a number of braids. The most I tried was six strands but a couple had ten or eleven strands. I can’t read the captions of the how to photos but the pics are carefully numbered and you don’t really need the captions.

Which was a fate worse than death!

You might be surprised. When I worked as a parts clerk for a maintenance department, we could get same day delivery with Graybar and next day with Grainger and that was 20+ years ago. When I worked for Graybar, we shipped stuff for same / next day too.

When I used to do aqua aerobics, we had several non-Muslim women who wore a similar suit, minus the hijab. A couple were older women who liked the coverage of wrinkly arms and legs. The other was plus sized and it made her less self conscious.

What kind? If you’re interested, I have a rotary one that I bought for the studio (Xacto brand, 12"X12") that didn’t work out for me. I would be happy to pass it along to someone who would get some use out of it.

As will I.

You may want to check out World Market or an Asian market for the different varieties. (Nephew likes green tea KitKats and different flavors of Pocky).

Happy Halloween!

Irk got irked and no dog parking done because of the rain. I’m scheduled for glass replacement tomorrow afternoon. Since they won’t need to come into the apartment, I don’t have to be home for that. I hope that my manager has a discussion with the other complex management to get something done.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That’s very sweet! My lovely wife wants guillotine style, though.

Trick or treating is done. We had hardly any kids. Sad. Back at the flat with eyeball ice in my beverage and some milky ways

On to electricity shut down tomorrow.

And a good late afternoon all from Ali-bama. The outside lights are on and the candy is deployed in the bowl, so I’m ready when the trick-or-treaters come, probably in about a half-hour. Also had about 6-7 small bags of Fritos and Cheez-its from my last soccer game, so put those on a small table outside and expect them to disappear shortly.
Just finished off a couple ham-n-cheese sammiches so not at all hungry (but walking past that candy bowl…).

{{Coppertone}}, I have been lucky, no real dental problems outside of having my wisdom teeth pulled about 20 years ago, hope they get you taken care of.

wet one, think you are being wise to quarantine a bit longer, you know your body better than anyone.

:+1:

Copycat

FCM, I think (from a life-long bachelor’s POV) that knowing how to control the “I told you so’s” is the real secret of a successful marriage.

Cookie, I can remember a few snowstorms in N. Ohio around Thanksgiving, but this is early I think, even for Minnie-soda.

Oopsie, glad you were able to help work out, but sometimes being the indispensable person can be a chore. And Yeah! for the new door.

nellie, feel better soon.

VanGo , interesting info about Achlles repair; and the Jehovah Witness story made me smile…

And looks like rain this evening which might put a damper (and yes, I see what I did there) on the Trick or Treaters, and puts tomorrow’s soccer game in peril, so we’ll see what happens in the next couple of hours. Take care all.
