(Old) Tricks, treats, and a brand new month in the MMP

It’s snowing. 5 days ago it was 80 degrees.

VanGo - I’ve been meaning to ask you - have you ever used CA adhesive? FCD has been reading about it and he wants to try it.

Looks like my mom is going home today, do they must have figured out her meds. So yay!

FCM I’ve used CA for lots of stuff, but it does have limitations. It’s super-glue, like that old ad where they guy was hanging by his hard hat. What does he want to do with it? And I’d suggest getting accelerator. I use this to fill little voids in walnut. I also use clear, not black, CA to help veneer tear-outs to re-tatch. (dammit re-tatch is a word) Oh, to add about the accelerator, it is exothermic–a big drop of glue and zip-kicker will foam up and get really hot.

CA glue is really strong, but brittle. If the thing is going to get stressed/sideways knocks it’s not the right adhesive. One time into a static situation is best for that glue. If the thing is going to get stressed, epoxy glue is better. That twin syringe 5 minute stuff is good.

Glad to hear mom is going home.

What part of the country do you live in?

I’m in upstate NY. Why do you ask?

My regular personal training sessions are always on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but the start times vary between 5:00pm and 6:30pm (based on my trainer’s other clients; I’m more flexible than some). Yesterday’s session was originally at 6:30pm, but got moved up to 5:30pm when my trainer had a cancellation: I greatly prefer the earlier time, but it meant that the neighborhood was crawling with trick-or-treaters when I drove home vs when I left for the gym. When I got home I was pleased to see that my “lights on only in the back of the house” plan was very effective, and the place looked totally dark from the street. I had to wait at a couple of intersections for groups to cross, and again as I went to pull into my driveway…there are lots of kids in my 'hood! Made me briefly wish I was giving out candy, but mostly I was very happy to scoot inside and surreptitiously take the dog out back, take a shower, make some dinner, and turn the TV on.

The cleaning ladies came this morning, and they were done early enough (and work was quiet enough) that I was able to run out to the grocery store at lunchtime. I went to the “other” store – the one that’s a whole 2.2 miles away, vs the one that’s 1 mile away and on the way to/from the gym – because of a few items it carries that the closer store doesn’t. But it was out of the frozen beef enchiladas I was hoping for and the protein shakes I wanted, and I also wasn’t able to get more grilled cheese Lunchables (which I recently discovered at the closer store, and which are awesome). I still managed to spend more than $100, though…including getting some jalepeño White Castle cheeseburger sliders, two of which I may or may not have had for lunch.

As usual on Mondays and Wednesdays, I’m happy to have no plans this evening!

Are you still without power/unable to work?? I hope you and the critters are keeping warm somehow!

Awww…sometimes I accidentally step on one of Bailey’s paws while putting her harness on, and I always feel terrible when she yips. :frowning:

Ha!!

I didn’t see that, but there were definitely cars from other neighborhoods (I saw a couple of them drive in and – very slowly – find a street to park on). There are lots of apartments and high-rises around here, so I like to think those kids were being brought in from somewhere with no “local” trick-or-treating. House-to-house would be a bit much!

That’s great news!

Afternoon all. Swimming (1,400 yards) and sauna are complete and the gym scale says my chocolate blitz didn’t hurt the bottom line, so I’m reasonably happy with that. Running a load of laundry today and a couple more tomorrow, with the soccer tournament starting Friday at 6pm and running until mid-day Sunday, I don’t want things piling up before my Moanday departure. It’s 53F outside but the little weather note says high winds soon and tonight is supposed to get into the 20’sF. But then it starts warming up for the weekend, so yeah! for that.

doggio, ah, nothing like management to take a bad situation and make it worse. ENjoy your nap.

Cupcakes, glad Mauser only is bruised, at least he’s not standing there saying "bad human! Bad human!!

Sensei, I get an average of about 36 inches of rain a year, winter is usually the dry season for us. Can’t imagine getting 131 inches a year.

BBBoo, glad the grands had a good time, and I nearly ran out of candy too; guess they are making up for the abbreviated COVID years…

Oopsie, good planning on your part.

OK, need to check on the laundry and do some You-Tubing. See all y’all later.

My sister texted that my mom is home. So yay! Supper was cheeseburgers. Once the dishes are done, it’s full speed to chillage mode.

Mynew rollsuck was delivered, so it will be unpacked and assembled.

I wondered where the snow was.

It is YOUR responsibility to ensure the tax authorities have the correct address and it is YOUR responsibility to pay your taxes even if you don’t get a bill because you know that you have taxes due. Any failure on YOUR part will result in late fines and penalties that YOU will be responsible to pay.

Or at least that is the answer we got from San Bernardino about unpaid motorcycle registration two years after we left the state. Of course, we didn’t pay it and they put a lien on the bike. Bastids.

Good on you! If it was American Shield, I’ll send you some cookies too!

Excellent idea! shoe, I hope you have power now. Or are sharing body heat, which ever makes you happier.

Poor lil guy and poor you. I know the guilt feelings, I always apologize to ours if I step on their tails. I’m sure he’s all over any mad feeling he had at the moment, so you should forgive yourself as well.

I have never heard of such a thing before but I sure do want them now! They sound super yum!

That poor man! Thank goodness you were able to step in and help. I have many bad words about scammers, title theft is a thing out this way too.

CUTE!!!

Dang about the dryer, hopefully you will be able to find the issue and fix it yourself.

Ouch.

Fingers crossed for the dishwasher, we had to have ours replaced last year and were not really happy about it.

Of course it will, you need to live in a place before you really know where things need to be for you.

It sounds like you are making progress, though. That is all anyone can ask.

I always feel so sorry for the poor washing machine.

As expected, we didn’t get any candy beggars so gave our candy bars to our housekeeper. She was also happy to get the divinity and said the candy bars would go to the kids, she’s keeping the divinity for herself, LOL!

Our surplus box had plantains and a watermelon which kinda surprised me. I chunked the watermelon up for noshing and put the rinds in a bag for chickens. I’ll take them over tonight while picking up eggs.

Hubs was planning on grilling burgers tonight, so I’ll probably slice and fry a couple of plantains to go with them.

I was going to make spritz cookies today, but forgot about that when I saw the big tow truck show up behind us. It was a total non-event. The guys who were over the other day were professionals, all the tow truck driver had to do was connect to the hitch, put some lights on the back and haul it out.

It looks very different back there, and the birds are all confused again. I expect we will be seeing another mobile back there in a few days, they won’t want to wait until it starts to rain (if it ever does) and try to level it in the mud.

GG hates it when the birds go away, he sits in the window and yammers for them to come and entertain him.

The highlighter grid doesn’t seem to be stopping the birds from flying into the window, but I can see them pulling up at the last minute so they are hitting the window at a slow angle instead of a fast and deadly head first.

I showed him the link and he said that’s what he’d seen recommended on a couple of sites. So the intrarwebz agree with you!

My mom got home a bit before 5 - I take it to mean that they got her meds figured out. FCD got a root canal this afternoon. His original appt was next week, but they had a cancellation, and being a retiree, he was able to snap it up.

His brother in Texas is probably not much longer for this world. He’s unable to get out of his bed, and his wife and son can’t help him - he’s just too big. I hope the end comes quickly and quietly - poor Danielle has been dealing with his crap for far too long. I’ll never understand why she married him, but that’s none of my business, even if it perplexes me. (No, I never much liked him.) Anyway, it looks like years of ignoring his diabetes is about to take its toll.

On the happier side, I remembered to snip 6 pieces of coleus from the planters before the freeze hits. I need to bring in my spider plants - at least I don’t have to hide them from Taz this winter. Tho I don’t know where I’ll put them. I’ll find an appropriate window.

OK, out into the cold to fetch them in!

I’m dealing with some of that now. Still working on unpacking and sorting out post-upheaval, and I’m sure there’ll be some additional tweaks (we decided it was a good time to rework the furniture arrangements, and did lose a couple of shelving units to damage. Fortunately, we’re weeding down enough that hopefully that missing shelf space won’t be a huge problem).

Howdy Y’all! We went to :astonished:Wally Jr. :astonished: for the few needed provisions. We did not go get shorn. Maybe tomorrow. Or not. We’re all willy-nilly like that. Nappage and day drinkin’ (hawt chawklit with a slug of rum) were accomplished. The chili and cornbread made for a nice sup on a chilly(ish) day.

Taters yike about the furnace. However, you will be all warm and toasty this Winter, so there’s that.

MOOOOOOM yay for your mom gettin’ sprung! Hope the dryer problem is minimal. Cute pic!

JtC my first house was bought back in the 80s, so I have no idea who the warranty insurance was with.

Now, 'tis time for some Netflix and chill. Also I need cookies.

Poor Mauser! I’m glad that he isn’t badly injured baker. And you know he forgives you.

You had a couple of cut little goblins there Mooooooom.

Have a good visit with your folks dicey.

Adam is a beautiful cat sari.

I worked 3.5 hours at a charging station this morning, which is much more physical than what I usually do. With the cold, I’m achey.

Trying to get warmed up. I may have to raise the thermostat to do it though. I’m not ready for winter.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m so glad she’s home. Hospitals aren’t good places anymore.

I’m so sorry for FCD and the impending loss of one of his brothers. He’s got to be so stressed over family nowadays. It will be good for him (and you) to get away and relax.

You are always going to miss those shelves. Always. For as long as you live there and maybe even after. It is good that you are kinda unpacked, though. Living out of surprise boxes isn’t a whole lot of fun.

I think there were only two home warranty companies back then, but both of them were scum so I’m glad you were able to get some use out of them.

Imma making spritz cookies tomorrow and I’ve learned that cookies can be vacuum sealed for shipping…

:frowning:

The cold makes my hip ache no matter how warmly I’m dressed.

We do still have multiple “what the hell’s in HERE?” boxes to mine through, but with books put away and used boxes out of the apartment, progress is being made.

Evening all. 2 loads of laundry done and garbage is out at the curb, so I have been industrious this PM. Still need to do the hanger routine here in a bit, and need to check the mail, but otherwise a quiet evening is expected (Jinx alert!!! Jinx alert!!). Temperature is down to 40F already, so a good night for bundling up in the comforter.

FCM, glad to hear Mom is home and while I am sad for FCD’s impending loss, it sounds like it was self-inflicted. My dad had Type 2 diabetes and made it to 91, I have a nephew with Type 1 but he’s taking very good care of himself. Sounds like BIL couldn’t or wouldn’t do the same.

JtC, waiting with bated breath to see what the new mobile looks like; has to be better than the old one, doesn’t it?

Best go out and check the mail before it’s below freezing. have a good evening all.

Still on the COVID train. The positive line was fainter today than it was Saturday. Maybe because I used an expired test, but I prefer to think I have a lower viral load.

I made ‘chicken Alfredo’ tonight. I had mine on steamed broccoli, and the spousal unit got pasta (with some broccoli). Running low on supplies. No bread, no tortillas, and the cheeses are diminishing. Might have to mask up and go to the store.

Agree~Netflix I have but I am perilously bereft of cookies.

My granddaughter bestowed all the York peppermint patties in her trick or treat basket on me last night. Those will have to do. She was thrilled to get a big handful of Whoppers! and has declared those her new favorite candy in all the world.

Thise are Roxy’s faves also. She calls them balls.

I put the electric blanket on the bed tonight. I can’t sleep if I’m cold, but I rarely keep thd blanket on all night. Mostly it just preheats the bed.

I’m very tired and I hope to sleep past 3. We shall see. But for now, nite-nite!
