Perhaps Instacart, Doordash, or similar might be a good move here?
We’ll be OK. The supermarket and corner market aren’t crowded, and we’re getting better. I can get in and out without getting close to anyone. I’ll have to wait on the TJ’s run.
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes for Mauser. He is walking almost normally now, still favoring the foot a little, but he puts weight on it.
I had to once as well. It was when our daughter was a toddler so many years ago. I picked up a chair that we had outside and used the leg to break the small window in the back door then wrapped my arm in a towel and carefully reached through and opened the lock. Not long after we obtained a key rock that’s hidden amongst a bunch of other rocks.
with as cold as it was, I thought that I’d be stuck with a lot of candy so I gave out 2 crunch bars to each ToTer then when I had only 4 bars left, I ran to the pantry and got a bag of Hershey kisses that I gave out after the candy bars ran out. Had 36 ToTers.
Thank you to everyone for your words of support and comfort and hugs!!! Hubs had an attack of diverticulitis that got infected and once his temp went up to 100.5, he had to go to the hospital as both his PCP and Hemotologist/Oncologist told him if his temp ever went over 100 to hightail it to the ER. So, the infection is almost healed but with what they gave him in the hospital, his gout flared up so he’s walking a bit slow this week; although it’s started to go down a bit but his foot is still swollen. Yesterday he had his psychological evaluation; today I took him to a neurology evaluation; tomorrow is electocardiogram at 7:30am then a cardiology evaluation at 1pm with chemo at 2:30.
If all the evaluations say there’s nothing that would cause him to not be able to undergo the stem cell transplant, he will go into the hospital on Nov 30 for a catheritization port then on Dec 1 will start getting chemo to destroy his immune system then the transplant will be on Dec 7.
There are times that the enormity of this overtakes me and I am scared. I have to tell myself the expression that as bad as I or we have it, others have it worse, some very very much worse which pulls me out of it, also prayer helps.
Today was All Saints Day. I wanted to come on first thing this morning after I returned from mass and wish you all a Blessed All Saints Day but the day got away from me. Know I was thinking of you.
Need to get to bed now as O dark thirty will come before I know it. We’ll need to leave by 6:40 to get to the hospital where the electocardiogram will be done.
This sounds like the beginning of a Zombie Apocalypse book.
I’m glad you are feeling better.
We have one as well, we brought it from our old place. That’s good because this place is pretty secure and I really do not want to break any glass.
I would be terrified. If it helps at all, remember that this is pretty routine to the medical staff and they know what they are doing. They might not remember to explain things very well, so ask.
I will send many prayers your way.
I was also thinking in terms of your stamina and not getting you exposed to any other bugs until your immune system has recovered from the current one.
I think we’re good.
The ‘running low on supplies’ is more along the lines of me cooking. We have plenty to eat. We’re not concerned about being exposed to other things.
We did get out to walk for half a mile today. I could have done more, but the Spousal Unit can’t keep up with me or go as far; so we had a short walk together.
Power came back on a few hours ago. Sweet Manager called me earlier asking if I wanted to cover for another guy who had a family emergency, and I jumped at the opportunity to make up the lost hours.
Frankly, I was gonna go in anyway just to thaw out and unplug my phone.
Anyway, imma take the longest, hottest shower in a bit.
I LOL’d.
Never heard of it. Then again, I detest pickles.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
You have no idea. TGoL has been out for 6 months on FMLA with back issues, and the belt has run fine. He came back 2 weeks ago, and we’ve had 3 belt overloads(including a Monday, of all days!).
“We cannot get out : we cannot get out.
They have taken the fridge and the second hall. Focaccia & Limburger & naan fell bravely while the rest retreated to Marzipan. We still holding: but hope is dying. Óin’s party went 5 days ago but today only 4 returned”
-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lunch Of the Rings
Yeah, when I lost power for 5 days during The Great Ice Storm of 2003, I stood in the shower till the hot water ran out.
{{{{CatGlove and Hubs}}}}
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 32 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. We might go get shorn this mornin’. For sure I shall go take care of duties over to the church house and then we shall go to the hog trough GC for the main feed of the day. The usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ are also on the agenda.
Cat_Glove sounds like a bzzy day today. It’s OK to be scared given what all is goin’ on right now with hubs.
CupCakes glad Mauser is better.
Flyboy hope the Missus and you are over the plague soonest.
shoe yay for restored power!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
The weather guessers were right - it’s 32° out there. When I went thru the garage to let Higgs out, I realized that I hadn’t closed the garage window for the season, so it was quite nippy out there. The window is now closed and locked till spring. Critters have been tended to, and I’m caffeinating.
Last evening, FCD asked me to bump up the thermostat on the pellet stove. I kinda over-did it. It was nearly 80° in the kitchen, which is next to the room with the stove, and the pellets were still burning away. I’ve since bumped the dial down (analog, not digital, so purely a guess as to the setting) and we’ll see how it goes.
The electric blanket was great - it warmed the bed just enough that I crashed and didn’t wake till 6!! I turned it off just before I zonked out, which beats waking up in an oven of blankets. Naturally, next week, we’re promised low 70s…
As to breaking into houses, we’ve never had to do it here, and with all our outbuildings, we have plenty of places to hide keys anyway. Shortly after we installed daughter’s new storm door, Tobias accidentally locked it, and it doesn’t have a key lock. SIL had to break into their house - fortunately, a window on the side was slightly open and he was able to climb in there after warping the screen to remove it. They have since installed a new lock set on the back door and we all have keys to that, plus they’ve hidden one. So that’s good.
The biggest hassle for us would be a power outage - we enter and leave via the garage, and if the opener couldn’t open, we’d have to get out of the car, walk aaaaallll the way around the garage and go in thru the mandoor! The very idea!! How uncivilized!!!
We might see 50° today. I think I’ll entertain Tobias with a trip to Food Lion, but I’m not going to bother with Wiggle Giggle. He likes the toys, but he’s still a tad young for some of the other activities, and he sits with me. He can do that here, minus the other kids. And I need groceries anyway, so that’s that. Our new microwave is ready for pickup at Lowe’s - I’ll do that tomorrow, sans child.
FCD woke up and said his face hurts - duh! He had a root canal! But he went back to sleep. He has to take his mom to the Dr this morning. Then he’ll be back to organizing his shop.
That’s all the excitement at FairyChatEstates. Oh, except I assembled and tested my new rollsuck. I’m not all that crazy about how they changed the controls, but it works well, and I like the filters better than on the old one. And so onward into the day!
Happy Thursday!!
What’s been happening with your daughter’s school/$ fracas?
Yesterday, November 1st, was memorable because it was the first time in a full week that I could get outside after work and run. Yeah, I know, I could do this stuff on indoor tracks that are readily available in my area, but logic doesn’t dictate everything in our lives. For me, there’s nothing better than being outside and running around the track at the park.
We’re out of the loop. Not going into all the details, but someone on the board had an issue with FCD being involved and things got ugly, so he stepped back, and apart from my involvement in the fundraiser, we stay away from the whole fiasco. The board can deal with it as they wish. Daughter is upset, but she can’t overrule the board. Too much drama.
Uch. People. They bug me.
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 54F and wet outside. We’ll have rain most of the morning, but it’ll taper off into showers for the afternoon. The expected high temp is 61F.
FCM, I wondered if the board would have objections to the level of involvement you two had with the school. People are weird and dramatic. It’s too bad for the school, but honestly, it’s just one less stressor for FCD. Also, I am sorry about FCD’s brother. Regardless of whether the brother brought it on himself, I imagine it still hurts FCD.
shoe, I’m glad your power has been restored.
JtC, it’ll be interesting to see what they put on that lot. Hopefully, it’s not another junker. Wouldn’t it be nice if they planted trees and shrubs there to give nature some space? I know, how silly of me to think of the earth.
I went downtown yesterday morning and put just under half of the cost of the furnace replacement and installation down. They’ll be out Tuesday morning to do the job. It still stings, and I still have another 5000 grand to go. I would have preferred to finance it. I could have paid it off quickly and not impacted my bank account and credit card so much, but my husband was mulish, and I was sick of arguing with him about it. Oh well.
I am NOT going to the office today. I’ll be in two or three times next week and twice the following week, so they’ll get their face time. It’s my Friday, and I plan to get caught up with administrative BS. Unless…there’s another fire or urgent situation, I’ll have to deal with that.
I spent part of yesterday perusing the vehicles we could choose from for the replacement of part of our GOV fleet statewide. GSA said, “Look, you have all these vehicles to choose from!” My agency fleet operations said, “You can’t pick THIS type or THAT type, and you DEFINITELY cannot have the other type!” Which limited our choices. However, I found some and then chose alternates if they said no. Two of the vehicles exceed the incremental cost limit stipulation, but I think we can put forth a pretty good justification for them. If the answer is still no, I have backups in mind. I wanted vehicles that are ready to ship within 90 days and are actually available and not wait for two years, as we did with the last batch. Our stupid hybrid Sonatas keep dying in the parking lot, even though they are being charged and driven weekly. Two of them die the day after a charge, even though they had battery replacements two years ago. They are pieces of ca-ca, and need to go.
My husband has been looking at dogs on the Humane Society site. I know he wants another one badly, but I’m still not ready. I told him that although I miss the tippy-tap of feets on the floor, I don’t miss the care that goes into them. It’s been a long haul for me; first, Brandi and then Polar, and it’s been non-stop additional medical care for years. My son has a co-worker whose lab just had a litter of puppies, and my husband is interested in those, too. I told him puppies are a lot of work and that he would need to step up. He agreed, but I already knew it would all fall to me. I want a housebroken dog, so we’ll get one when it’s time. If it’s ever time. Right now, it’s nice knowing we can go when we want and not worry about leaving a pet home or boarding it.
Well, I need to finish my coffee and handwash a few dishes.
Everyone take care.
I think it hurts him more that it affects their mother. (Who, incidentally, excused this bro because he’s the “middle child” - as if that’s really a thing.) This brother has been a “taker” all his life. We helped him out so many times in the past and he’d just come back for more. Even after he got married, he looked to us for help. We finally quit. Expressions of gratitude begin to ring hollow after 15 or 20 years…
It’s after 8 - I need to shower and dress!!!
Morning all. Breaking Fast as I type this, about 35F outside right now, heading for the mid-60’s and no rain to be seen. Some gym time, a load or two of laundry and soccer practice will occupy my day. Need to do some shopping this morning at Sam Walton’s Place for a few incidentals.
BBBoo, don’t think I ever had a Whopper! (just the Burger King type) before, as a kid I mostly got Hershey’s products and as a grown-up (more or less) I dote on M&Ms, Kit Kats, and the ubiquitous Snickers, when I allow myself a treat.
Flyboy, hope starvation or the zombie hordes do not overtake you. Keep feeling better.
Cat Glove, sounds like a tough couple of weeks for you guys. Best wishes to Hubs for a successful procedure and {{{ }}} for you.
shoe, glad I tickled your funnybone. That particular scene in the movie is one of my all-time favorite 3-4 minute cuts of all time. Enjoy your hours.
doggio, that reply to flyboy…pure genius, much thanks for sharing.
Taters, hope you get the cars you want.
OK, need to process the mornng internet and then head over to Wally’s place. All y’all take care.
Yesterday I slipped on a patch of ice left over from Tuesday. I am going to the ortho walk in clinic later, after my allergy shots. I’m sure nothing is broken but my left calf hurts like hell and I want it checked out.
Back from Food Lion with sale diet cokes and a few items for turkey day dinner. I plan to amass what I need gradually, leaving the birds for last. I think we’ll have local sweet spuds, so that means a stop at a local stand.
Meanwhile, Tobias and I are chilling till lunch.
