Self evaluation: Does Peedin do her job? Yes. Does anyone hate Peedin? No. That’s it. Give her a raise.
Fortunately I am done with self evaluations and evaluating those who reported to me. Evaluations are stupid. That stuff should be addressed throughout the year. And if someone doesn’t do their job, they should get fired.
The wife’s niece is coming over today and we’ll be making chrusciki cookies. I managed to get the mixer out of its hiding place without damaging anything important.
Sadie is just over one week into recovery from the teeth extractions and seems to be doing better. Her appetite seems to be back and I saw signs that she was batting around one of her toys during the night.
More mild weather today, with a little snow this evening. Heavier snow coming in on Thursday.
Mrs. L.A. said, ‘We’re both looking outside wondering why it’s so dark out.’ Then she said that it’s because sunrise isn’t until eight o’clock. So just about now. It’s still very dim outside.
A drawn out Tuesday. There was a discussion regarding being punched by four year olds, and the one table Sorter T was an expert, having been both a nanny and a karate teacher(that should probably be part of nanny training in general). One of the loaders got into an argument with one of the supervisors about running a fan, and spent the next 3 hours continually ranting about it. And the preload head was apartly having a tizzy because we finished up the regular Ground stuff long before the Richmond Ground or Air got there. So a bit more excitement than usual.
I do laundry weekly, 4 loads(2 of clothing, one of towels and Underoos, and one of sheets.).
It always kept reminding me of the “self criticisms” they used to do in Communist POW camps.
I don’t have to worry about carpet cleaning because the floodings and flood mitigation guy keep the carpet clean. < ?silver lining >
Off to work, open → close. The moldy old Xmas music is already stuck in my head. >< Gonna bring my baked potato leftovers with me, we got plenty of cheese and onions at work.
Oh, and I planned ahead & bought a bunch of candy to bring in with me. Maybe I’ll share, maybe I’ll hide it all … TBD.
FCD and I took care of business with our money guy, then dropped off all the goodies at the mission, so yay there! When we got home, SIL came over and the two of them were looking at vehicles on line. Once they found a minivan, SIL stopped. He’s always wanted one and he would consider nothing else, even tho it’s in Rockville - on the other side of DC, so close to 2 hours away… Heaven save me from emotional vehicle buyers (she says, even tho she’s married to one.)
Anyway, when we got home, I loaded the truck for a trip to the convenience center, then picked up my seizure med refill, then gassed up the truck ($60 didn’t even buy 3/4 of a tank, and I was nearly running on fumes.) Next was a drive-thru McLunch on the way back to give our money guy a check. Thanks to Patriot Act idiocy, we couldn’t get a cashier’s check right there at the credit union - it had to be a non-starter check from our account, so they know we’re not laundering money, or something. I don’t know. Anyway, I dropped off the check and was going to get cashier’s checks to send to Texas, but the line was stoopit long, so I left. I can do it tomorrow when I take BIL to the other branch.
So I’m home again, and I’m thinking it’s time for chillage.
Oh, and I got 2 more of those idiot emails - identical wording and everything. Someone must have broken into Breezeline’s database and stolen all their email addresses or something. Idiocy.
The pills are for: immunosuppression, antiviral, 2 different antibacterials, gout, steroid for gut, water pills, other steroids, atrial fibrilation, high blood pressure, pills to counteract negative stomach issues from the steroids, antifungal.
Hubs will start getting re-immunized in January.through 26 months after transplant. In January there are 7 different immunizations, well maybe 8-the sheet they gave us is a little hard to understand; there will be 3 in February, perhaps 1 or 2 in March, 1 in May, 4 or 5 in July, then 4 in January of 2026, 4 in March 2026. I think that after these immunizations, some of the pills will drop off. At least one of them can’t be given until he is off the immunosuppression drugs. He started out taking 10 immunosuppression pills a day and now he’s down to 3. The Dr said that depending on the results of his bone marrow biopsy in 2-1/2 weeks, that the immunosuppression pills may be reduced to 2 pills a day. This bone marrow biopsy will be his 7th or 8th, I’ve lost track.
Thanks, I’m looking forward to the mass, brunch, then going to the cemetery, well really looking forward to spending time with our Daughter. I sent an email to my sister who lives fairly close (30 miles) inviting her to join us. She sent a response saying that she has a prior commitment. I’m wondering if the ‘prior commitment’ is going to mass at her church then making breakfast for herself and her husband.
Me too. Taters, would you please remind us of the model that you purchased.
No offense but chrusciki are not cookies.
I’m wrung out. Washed dishes, did 41 minutes on the NuStep 4+ miles. Hubs dropped the lid to the water reservoir for the Keurig behind the stove. So, I pulled the stove out and commenced to clean about 20 years worth of grime out from where the stove normally lives. Holy Toledo, was there the rolled oats, various dried liquids, particularly spag sauce, a lot of dirt and dust. Washed the floor, the back of the stove, the wall behind the stove, the cabinet walls on both sides of the stove. Had to keep taking off layers, I’m down to a t-shirt and light pajama pants and am soaked. Going to go take a shower now.
ETA: oh yes, the lid to the water reservoir was rescued.
It’s raining here, of course. That’s what it does here. In Summer I replaced the tarps on the tent garage. The new roof doesn’t fit as tightly as the original, so water can puddle up when it rains. Snow will be worse. It’s 20 feet long, with two ‘rafters’ aside from the ends; so that’s a lot of room in those three ‘compartments’ for water to collect. A few weeks ago, out of frustration, I stuck a disused 8-foot 2x4 between the middle rafters. Amazingly, the middle part of the roof sheds water. The back part hasn’t been collecting water. The front part fills up. So today I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of 2x4s that I put up at the bottom of the front end. Fingers are crossed.
I really need to hire someone to put three 4x8 sheets of OSB up there. I’d do it myself, but them suckers is heavy.
Good Afternoon all. After a morning of sloth that would make swampy proud, I finally did my banking and am now taki a break after burning 324 calories for 30 minutes of cycling. Will probably do the treadmill next and then see how I’m feeling. Have read all but have trouble responding with my phone so will talk with you later.
I’ve always thought it was crazy to pick pallbearers from the decedent’s family. They’re usually old folks themselves, who can barely carry themselves, let alone 1/6th of a heavy box.
I had a regularly scheduled visit with my regular doctor. She took a look in my ear, and said it still looks angry in there. So, after 4 days of big fat antibiotic pills, my ear doesn’t hurt much, and I don’t feel like I fell down a flight of stairs like before, but it’s still infected. Yes, of course I’ll take the pills 'til they’re all gone. For one thing, I get to say, “Yes, I have Moxie! It says so right here on the pill bottle!”
I was a pallbearer for both of my grandparents - I was in my 40s, so I wasn’t quite as decrepit as I am now…
Definitely not in the donut family - my mom would make them when she was making cookies, but she never called them cookies. They were in a class by themselves. I do find it interesting that some people call them Angel Wings. My mom always called them Bow ties. Guess it depends on what part of Poland your people are from?
I’ve cleaned and refilled the pellet stove and I did an almost complete rollsuck. FCD doesn’t want supper, so that makes it easy - I’m thinking I’ll dump some cereal into a bowl of yogurt and that will be that.
Tomorrow, I take BIL to the credit union so I can be added to his account, and I’ll get the cashiers checks for TX SIL and nephew. That’s all that’s on the agenda. So far.

Somewhat insanely, it’s currently 62°F and mostly sunny! The sun will start setting within the hour, though, and things will start cooling down again tomorrow; we’ll be back to highs in the 30s by Friday. But I ran an errand at lunchtime, and it was really nice to be completely comfortable in jeans and a sweatshirt!
Last night I tied up the “Christmas gift for Wife BFF” loose end: I ordered a small Solo stove (tabletop fire pit), and some wood for it. They’re supposed to arrive NLT than the 23rd. The idea is that she/Husband BFF can use it on their deck in cool-ish weather, because they like to sit out there and they both tend to run cold. It’s not the greatest present, but in 2021 I got her a small concrete fire pit that wound up being recalled earlier this year so I figured I’d get a replacement. I have no idea if she ever used the concrete one, but this one should be lighter and easier to use. At least I thought of something.
I decided to take Friday afternoon off work, and I might go to the mall around lunchtime: I have a gift card from my favorite clothing store burning a hole in my wallet, they’re having a sale this weekend, and I could use a “dressy” top or two since regaining some of the weight I’d lost. When I was in college I worked in a big mall (at a Hallmark store, no less) so I know that the Friday afternoon before Christmas could be a madhouse, but if I do go I’ll see if anything else for Wife BFF catches my eye.
I’ve remembered another loose end: I need to make an appointment to get my car inspected before the end of the month. Virginia requires annual safety inspections ($20/<30 min). I could just pick a time and go to most any gas station that has a service bay, but I also need new windshield wipers so I’ll make an appointment at the garage I’ve been using since my warranty expired. For whatever reason, I don’t feel like calling them today; I will tomorrow. I’m hoping I can get in there the morning of either the 26th or the 27th.
Isn’t the MMP all about making our (mundane/miscellaneous and pointless/personal) business everyone’s business?
That is awesome! And it looks good on your hand. Something that like would look terrible on me, because I have short and pudgy fingers. I think the card might be my favorite part, though…who knew “sloth” was my spirit animal?!
I like that they give “winners” 3 weeks of notice, so folks who are anywhere in the region can have time to make travel plans.
Ugh. I hope this morning’s service went smoothly.
Really? There’s nowhere near me where renting isn’t cheaper, and always has been. Which doesn’t mean rents are cheap, just less than a mortgage payment – and insurance, taxes, maintenance, etc. – on the same property would be. I certainly couldn’t afford to buy in my neighborhood. Renting saves me money (and homeownership agita), and the only downside is that I’ll have to keep it up even when I’m retired. I’ve decided that’s an OK tradeoff, at least for now. We’ll see if I’m still singing the same song in 12 years (when I turn 65).
My mom’s 9th anniversary was in early November.
Mine’s ~$180/quarter, but I do “doggy laundry” nearly every day: I frequently have to wash one or more of the waterproof pads that cover the LR rug at night. Only two of them can go in the washer at a time, so whenever I wake up to a superfund site in my LR it means multiple loads. Of laundry. heh heh heh
(I don’t begrudge Bailey’s cost of ownership one bit, but it ain’t nothin’! )
Our timelines are stupid, too, but not as bad as yours! Woah!
Our one-on-ones are happening now, and have to be wrapped up by early January. Salary planning for merit increases doesn’t finish until late January, goal-setting for 2025 doesn’t happen until late March, and the merit increases – for 2024’s performance – aren’t effective until April. They finally moved the mid-year reviews back a little, and now they end in early August…but two months later it’s year-end self-evaluation time.
!!
Same! First time in a long time I’ve had McDonald’s. The errand I ran at lunchtime was near the gas station and I needed to fill up (I was down to 1/8 tank), and the gas station is next to McDonald’s. There was zero line at the drive-through (!) so I figured “why not?” and got my old usual order: two hamburgers, small fries, and an apple pie. Yum!
I haven’t been a renter since college (in the 70s.) My very first apartment in Coronado, CA starting in January of 1975 (Holy crap - 50 years ago!!!) was a studio with a Murphy bed and an after-dinner-mint kitchen (yellow and green tiles for the counter, pink fridge!) Anyway, monthly rent, including utilities, was $150, and that was a little on the high side, but hey, Coronado! It was really the perfect first apartment. But it’s long gone, which doesn’t surprise me. As I recall, the bathroom floor was just a tad spongy, probably not too far from breaking thru.
I can’t imagine what such a unit would cost today. I do know around here, in the nicer neighborhoods (ie, not outside the main gate of the base) the majority of houses and even apartment units go for more than my mortgage. Of course, I refinanced at below 3% and we bought this place in 2004. It would cost a LOT more to buy it today, hence the mortgage would be a LOT more.
As an example, I just saw a 2/1, 800 sq ft apartment located about 12 miles from the shopping and restaurant area listed for $1850/month. I know the area where it is - there’s truly nothing down there - I can’t even think of where the closest gas station is. And houses in nicer neighborhoods go from $2000- $4000 or more. How can someone paying that much manage to save for a down payment for their own house?? Then again, this is a Navy town, so I expect there’s a lot more demand for rentals than in other areas, or maybe not.
