(Old) Up, Up and Away in the MMP

The commissary for most shopping, Aldi and Super Walmart for things the commissary doesn’t carry, and occasionally Stop & Shop and Big Y for stuff not carried by the others. The commissary has the best prices for most groceries; the next two are comparable, S&S is more expensive, and while Big Y is the closest of the five, it generally has the highest prices.

We have none of those options at my place, but holy gawds that sounds lovely.

Do those toppings get cooked with the pizza base, or are they added after the baking?

Pfft. Some deodorant and a bit of scented lotion & guarantee you’ll smell better than lotsa folks there.

Laundry is circulating (I’m almost out of clean socks!) and Monkey is wandering around in his blue jacket.

Tired of summer heat. Please bring back the coolth! (As opposed to the warmth, heh, get it?)

Y’all be yankin’ my chain, eh?

To continue: :musical_note: … in my beautiful, my beautiful ba-looooooooooon,
ba-LOOOOOOOOOOOOON! Up, up and away-yay! :musical_notes:

TIL: “silvervine”

Evening, all.

We’re having weather that’s embarrassingly nice this week. Today started out mid 50Ferrets, rose to around 79F and is currently at 75F. This will continue for looks like the foreseeable future. And I do appreciate how lucky I am.

Taters, good job on the weight loss, even if not intentional. So long as it’s not related to illness and it’s moving in a direction you want, what’s not to like?

red, I hope you enjoyed your RDOS day. And I’m glad the weird smell resolved.

Hey, I’m a pretty good experimental chef and I’m in awe of your efforts. It’s more than I would tackle! And I’m sure they’ll be delicious however they may look.

< Drool > I think we have pizza places here that make something similar, but I’ve made all my pizzas at home for so long, I don’t remember where. Now I’m going to have to start amassing ingredients.

nut, I feel your pain on the eclipse. I was in a dandy spot for the one in 2017, only had to drive north about 30 miles to be in the path of totality. Only I got really sick – a very rare occurrence – and in the end, I decided I had to to skip it. I still regret missing it! I hope you get another opportunity to see one. And I hope I do, too.

Hope the water challenges resolve on time, JtC.

I spent way too much of my time today doing what turned out to be a mostly pointless thing. I’ve been investigating alternatives to paying the monthly fee to my vet for Ollie to participate in their Golden Paws plan. It’s $140/month, but with as often as he needs vet attention, it turns out to be the least expensive way to go. But it’s still a lot of money, so I thought I’d check out pet insurance. Found a plan that looked pretty good, covered all the things he will likely need over the upcoming year. Signed up. And only then was it revealed that the coverage limits were so woefully inadequate, it was going to cost even more than I’m paying now! Example: My vet charges $895 for a basic dental cleaning. The pet insurance covered a maximum of $150 after a deductible of $250 was met. (!!!) Why have pet insurance, again? So I got to spend another bunch of time canceling the policy I’d just signed up for.

I’ll continue to look into pet insurance options, but geez, what a waste of time today.

I did some work on the spa that’s been waiting for a nice day that wasn’t too hot or cold. I noticed it’s almost time to start harvesting blackberries, so that’ll be on my list of chores soon.

The rest of the day was dedicated to laundry, some housecleaning, bill paying and personal hygiene tasks, the details of which nobody wants. Suffice it to say that hair removal and/or coloration occupies more of my time the older I get. Gotta keep after it or I’ll be mistaken for a yeti.

Baked bread today, too, so that’s out of the way for a couple of weeks.

Dinner was Day Two of the chicken pot pie I made yesterday. I’ll be ready for something different tomorrow. I’m heading over to the farm stand tomorrow for peaches and corn, so there will be dinner inspiration there, I’m sure. There’s probably a peach pie or cobbler in my near future – if I don’t eat them all fresh first!

Have pleasant evenings, everyone!

Mrs Magill and I had a good talk this evening. She attended her PFLAG meeting Monday, and I think it’s doing her sone good.

She’s okay with me going to more MTTA events, like the monthly night out. I am feeling optimistic. She seems to be encouraging me to go to the endo appointment next week. She did ask why I chose not to use her endo, who’s a friend frim church and would undoubtedly be supporting. I told her Cigna recommend this endo, because she has a lot of Cigna patients like me. Julie would be a hell of a lot more convenient.

Anyhow, I wanted to record these thoughts before heading for bed. I’ll catch up in the morning.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 75 degrees Ferret Height(23.889 Centipedes), with an Heat Index of 84F(28.889 C)

Morning, mumpers!it’s currently 25c/79f with a predicted high of 36c/97f and sunny. Weather app says “Do you know what’s fucking cool about the weather today? Absolutely fucking nothing.”

We arrived safely in Ghent, got checked in and then went for a walk around. We’re not far from the river so we went down there and looked at pretty buildings. Did not watch the eclipse, had a delicious steak dinner, and bar-hopped for a while before bed.

Since it’s ridiculously hot today, we may well take a trip on the water as it will be fresher out there. Right now, I am having a cup of tea and getting sufficiently motivated for a shower

Mornin’

Well, I did get to see a bit of the eclipse. Eclipse glasses were unavailable everywhere, so I was limited to quick glimpses, as for the first bit there was thin cloud which basically just blurred it all and just dimmed it enough that the pinhole trick didn’t work.

Then thicker cloud moved in, but I got about 30 seconds, when it was actually at the peak, where the clouds covered just perfectly so I could see the outline without risking eye damage- apparently those on the other side of the estuary didn’t even get that, my friend who was also out watching said she couldn’t even really tell it was happening and not just getting dark due to clouds. I went to a nice spot on the banks of the estuary, so it was scenic anyway; glad I went there rather than the busy advertised space, as the main effect was the lighting got a bit weird and it was unusually still and quiet, as the birds got confuzzled.

Tis a warm start to the day here, supposed to be 27 centipedes later, which, OK, isn’t hot by most of yez standards, but is very unusual for here. It’s normally around 20, as predicted for the next week.

I’ll be inside staring at a computer in bewilderment anyway. I remembered to put the recycling bin out last night, and I’ve already brought it in empty (they were early, glad I didn’t leave it til the morning, it would have been overflowing by next collection). That may be my excitement for the day.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 94 (with a heat index up to 111!) and sunny. I shall take care of candle and other duties in preparation for the funeral tomorrow. OYKW will accompany me and then we shall be bears who lunch at Newk’s for the day’s main need to feed. The other big item on the agenda is to make the chikin sallit. This afternoon will definitely be a day to stay inside in the a/c.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

It’s Ms Peach gotcha day!! One year ago, I brought a scared little doggie home.

It worked out pretty well tho it wasn’t pretty. The scoops of ice cream were a tad lumpy, but the whipped cream hid it pretty well  I will get hot fudge when I make it next week.

I also had cucumber salad and cole slaw, so veggies!!!

Teeter is too far from me (about 15 miles away) to shop regularly, and, frankly, they’re $$$. On the other hand, there have been items that I couldn’t find anywhere else, but not often enough to make it a regular stop. So it’s an option as needed.

Back in my active duty days, I rarely used the commissary. I hated getting stuck in line behind someone with two overflowing carts, and me with my purchases for one. It just wasn’t worth the hassle. And now, of course, it’s not an option, but since it’s almost 20 miles away, I doubt I’d go even if I could.

They were good - I’ll just have to hide the ugly behind lots of whipped cream!!

Only a year? Well, it was a good day for both of you. Yay!! :confetti_ball:

I just had a look at our paperwork - Otis came home with us on Sep 30 - not quite a year but it feels longer than that. He certainly made himself at home in short order.

Starting with 68 Ferrets here, with sun and upper 80s ahead and no rain till tomorrow. I have no idea what I’ll do. Maybe some yard work before it gets too hot? We shall see. I do need to rollsuck the bedroom at least - Ziva has been shedding to an exceptional degree. And while I have it out, I should push the machine around the rest of the house.

For now, tho, caffeination. Happy Thursday!

Today, I’m going to Mishawaka for my allergy shot. Weather is predicted to be messy, so we might skip the ice cream shop. We’ll see.

“That’s some catch, that Catch-22.”

The lettuce/explosive poop thing was narrowed down to one supplier, and stores pulled out the skeevy stuff right away. Nonetheless, folks are still avoiding lettuce, which has caused lettuce prices to plummet. Supply - demand = cheeeap lettuce.

congrats!! the two of you have had quite the year. many happy and healthy years!!

Good morning. I awoke to the sound of Mrs Magill getting up, and thought, “Oh good, she’ll walk with me this morning.” Then I heard her start the shower, and wondered where she was off to so early, and then I looked at the clock, so I got up. In the bathroom, I wondered aloud why my walking alarm didn’t go off and was informed that it did very much go off. Apparently, I was very tired.

Our printer died this weekend, it was over fifteen years old, and wouldn’t reliably connect to anything other than my desktop or Chromebook. Luckily, Costco had new ones on sale. We thought briefly about testing Costco’s generous return policy, but decided that wouldn’t be right. I installed and set up the new one last night, and so far every device can connect and print a test page.

That’s the news from Casa d’Magill.

Stupid question: Aren’t cupcake papers made of parchment? Anyhow my fear with cupcake papers is that they’ll be difficult to peel off. Maybe if you put a little parchment disk covering the bottom of the muffin tins, then the only thing that’ll stick is the sides, and that should be easy to separate with a small spatula or butter knife.

I had too much to do yesterday. I was tired, but got shit done, so… winning…?

This is exactly what I’ve been singing to myself for the last week.

And another one this morning. She is okay with me starting GAHT, if prescribed.

BooFae I’m glad you all are having a good time. Enjoy a lambic for me while you’re there.

VanGo Happy Gotcha Day to Ms Peach! I hope she enjoys a treat in payment for being such a good companion.

Whoa, whoa. Let’s not be hasty, now.

ARE YOU INSANE??? Um, just asking…

Showered, dressed, tended to cat stuff, rollsucked, and washed the rollsuck canister and filter pad. Go me! FCD took Otis to be cleaned and pressed, and he’s running to the marina while the dog is being serviced. I’m about to run a mop over the kitchen floor.

The other part of my plan is to sprinkle the corn flake mixture into the papers before adding the ice cream. But even if I didn’t I think peeling the papers off solidly frozen ice cream shouldn’t be a problem. I dunno. I’ll figure something out by Tuesday.

OK, off to mop!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 57F and with some high clouds. It’s supposed to be sunny, though hazy from wildfire smoke, today, with a high of 82F.

Kitten Mitten, yay for daughter getting a job!

Happy Gotcha Day Ms. Peach!

I shop at Safeway because it’s less than a mile from my house. I also shop at Costco. It seems all the grocery stores here are expensive. We have a Fred Meyer/Kroger a few miles south of us, and I used to shop there because food costs less than at Safeway. That is no longer true, and hasn’t been for a great many years. I very occasionally will travel quite a distance to go to Whole Foods. I don’t typically shop at Walmart just because it’s always ridiculously crowded.

To be fair, my husband does most of the shopping nowadays, and I do the “supplemental” shopping. I did all the shopping and cooking for years, but in recent years, my husband has taken that on. I still occasionally cook and still do all the holiday meals.

Mr. Taters is supposed to go to the grocery store today. I would love, love, love a good salad, but he refuses to buy ANY lettuce from the grocery store, much less a salad mix. I may go down to the farm store in Orting Valley to pick up some salad fixings, though. I bought lettuce last weekend at the Farmers Market, and he tried to tell me he got diarrhea from it. He didn’t; I didn’t, and it was grown right here. He’s just being paranoid and I find it annoying.

I am not sure what the day holds for me. Maybe an errand or two, posey care for sure.

Alrighty, time to get the day going. Please take care of yourselves.

If Otis was a girl dog that would mean something else entirely.

Morning all. Up a couple times with the Bladder alert signal so slept in until 8:00am, and am more or less ready to start the day. Worked with the weights at the gym the last two days after leaving them alone for several months and my arms are a bit achy, but I’ll try to persevere. Rain is gone but the heat remains, it’s 86F at 9:20am and heading to 94F. The lawn really does need mowing, but in this heat I am not too eager to start. We’ll see.

I usually shop at Kroger, mostly for the fuel points, it’s cheaper than Publix but more expensive than Wal-Mart so I manage. They have dropped a couple of my ‘staple’ items recently and I may have to explore some of the other options. But they usually have ridiculous discounts on Pepsi (buy 3 12-packs, get 3 free for example) at they have 3 stores with 4 miles of me so Kroger will probably remain my go-to.

shoe, you’ll get the coolth before I do…so I guess I’ll remain uncoolth…

Bright Tree, never owned a pet on my own, but sounds like pet insurance can be as screwed up as human insurance. Sounds like the Golden Paws might be the best option.

Mollie, keep on recording, you have a group of listeners here for you. And hope the new printer works well for many years–I have a Brother laser printer that has done good service for me for the last 4-5 years or so.

It is one of my hardest things to do, driving by the ice cream shop–unless it is driving by the cookie shop…

Boofae, sounds like a most relaxing vacation. Keep on enjoying.

Nut, I think I still have my eclipse glasses from the last time here in the US (2024?). And 80F is pretty warm, even here in N. Ali-bama, so stay cool.

VanGo, Happy Peach Day!! And don’t think she’s either scared or little anymore…

FCM, doesn’t seem like a year since you got Otis; time moves too darn fast these days…

Taters, been buying lettuce and salad mix bags pretty consistently and so far the bowels have been behaving.

And that’s all from the Thorsday morning report. Will actually get up and do some things (what exactly remains to be determined). Take care all.

The UK’s like the bleedin’ Kalahari, but I stick my laundry out on the line, having been lulled into thinking today will probably be the hottest day of the month, and it’s not got dry, it’s got rinsed. Absolutely hammered it down, so suddenly it wasn’t worth trying to take it back in.

The sun’s coming back out and there’s no more rain on the radar- I checked, this time, rather than trusting the forecast :sun_with_face: so hopefully at least my jammies will dry before bedtime.

I think I angered the weather by claiming to control it last MMP…
