(Old) Up, Up and Away in the MMP

Hi-diddly-ho neighbors! 73F and overcast at 1030. Breakfasted on savory oatmeal, bacon and a nectarine with yogurt and honey. A nice cup of dark roast, which will likely result in wanting to doze off later.

Woke up at about 0645 and thought I’d just sleep in a bit. Mistake. Whenever I do that I have stress dreams and today was no exception. I won’t go into details but the general theme of these is that I’m trying to get somewhere in a city and have no idea how to do it. Ugh.

Anyway, the day stretches out before me. I’ll be making spaghetti sauce this afternoon: tomatoes, meatballs, red wine, etc.

Gotcha skritches!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and infused. I think it will be a pajama day today, as I’m feeling punier than even the new norm. I’m not quite sure what pollen blew in yesterday, but my head is stopped up, adding to the joy that is my current sitch.

I’m a bit queasy this morning, so I figured a bowl of oatmeal would be nice and gentle to my belly. When I reached into the cabinet to get some pecans, I knocked a stack of monkey dishes to the floor, breaking all but two. That meant that I had to bandage the tiny nick I got from it, put on shoes, sweep up, then clean up blood before breakfast. I need a keeper.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

How do you come up with bizarre ideas like that?

75 ferrets at 1300; predicted high 77. We did have a fairly decent thorm last night. Lady SCAdian says it started around 0100 (though I didn’t notice it until 0330, shortly after I went to bed*), and lasted until 0500 (by which time I was asleep).

It doesn’t help that next week is the start for the traditional calendar schools and all the universties, so we’re slammed with irregs. It was a long day, a bunch of irregs to rebox, and thy brought me 2 113lbs. giant canopies to deal with at 11:15. So I got out at 12:15. I did my Senior Day shopping, and bought a Powerball ticket. It’s on a $20mill jackpot now(Thanks Illinois guy!), but that would keep me in opulent poverty.

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :meat_on_bone: :dog_face:HAPPY GOTCHA DAY MS. PEACH!!! :meat_on_bone: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

And now you’re out of cyan.

“brushing, nail trim, and Happy Ending. $50.”. :face_savoring_food:

Crying along with you.

Thanks for all of the sympathy over my water woes, it wasn’t horrible…like no toilets horrible. It was just really inconvenient. The pressure came back up around 1600 so most of the stuff got done anyhow.

It took me a while to fold the laundry, but the more I did, the easier it got.

I had a nice talk with the NP about pain and what the warning signs were regarding damage, but as long as I don’t pick anything up or use my cane for anything, I’m probably not going to do permanent damage.

They have me working with two pound weights at PT and all of my frame weights are heavier than that so Hubs taped a couple of magazines together and loaded them until they were two pounds for me to use this week. (I think he should have put them in a freezer bag first, I think the sticky stuff on the sides is going to be annoying, but maybe that’s just my CDO showing.)

Oh ouch! Vet care in AZ was very expensive and the last vet we had misdiagnosed VBC leading to her horrible death. Yes I’m still upset over that.

George’s first vet charged 35 for a visit and was very nice and knowledgeable. Most of his clients were dogs and the waiting room was very chaotic. Our current vet is cats only and is 60 for a visit, but the waiting room is quiet and appointments are kept on time.

I was in Dallas for the 2024 eclipse. Not only did I have the foresight to obtain enough eclipse glasses to share, I also convinced VanGo to make me a camera obscura which was the marvel of everyone in the area.

The birds were really entertaining to watch/listen to and the streetlights came on as the shadow moved. We were by a famous Rodeo building and all of their lights came on as well.

:tada:

What a great day for you both!

The weather would have to be really bad to not stop for ice cream, I hope you enjoy yours!

Cooked with the pizza base.
If you ever visit SE Mitten, I’ll take you there.
BrightTree Invitation is open to you too.
Swampy Invitation is open to you if you come to share a Wild Mushroom Fun-Guy pizza.

I don’t want to throw cold water on your idea but I’m wondering if that will make the corn flakes soggy?

Took Hubs to follow up visit with Opthamologist; she agreed to postpone the next follow-up so we can leave for vacation a day earlier. Then stopped at a breakfast joint so Hubs could pick up a waffle to go. Walked to work and back. Have been RDOSing. Now need to take all the bins, gabage, recycling, yard waste to curb for pickup tomorrow. Then work on grocery list and finishing spreadsheets on menus and things to bring for vacation. I’m generally not a fly by the seat of my pants person.

This doesn’t warrant going to the pit, so I’m here.

I’m exhausted. I went online to interact with the federal government. One activity was to change where my Social Security goes. The other was with Veteran Affairs to get a copy of my military awards. Holy crap, what an ordeal (of the first world kind). There were three different verifications to go through each time, involving Super Spy Codes delivered to my phone, giving them my SSN and military ID number, etc. If you don’t do it right, they bounce you out and you get to start all over again. There’s an hour I’d like back. I do appreciate that they are trying hard to protect my account from assholes, though.

On the plus side, the spaghetti sauce came out excellent.

Afternoon all. Gym has been gymmed, garbage bin has been put back in garage, and I’ll be leaving in about 40 minutes to referee at a U12 girls ‘jamboree’ (all players that show up get put on a pick-up team and play some games). So mowage will be tomorrow…or Saturday…

Know what you mean, yesterday’s forecast here was a 15% chance of rain that went to 100% by 5pm, so the Weather Wizards are playing darts with the forecasts now. Hope you have dry Jammies.

{red}}, take care and get well.

Or a shot of booze…

I’ve got his entire Honorverse series, but haven’t read anything new by him recently. May have to visit the bookstore…

JtC, Hubs can be a pain, but the man has a creative streak in him, that’s for sure.

Cookie, glad you could wade through the morass. Mine isn’t quite that important, the soccer organization changed computer programs and I really, really don’t like the new one, to call it a PITA is neglecting the other parts it pains. Just hope they/I can get it figured out in time for the season to start.

And need to do a couple things around the house and get dressed in my refereeing gear, so back later.

Another nice day here today. Just repeat yesterday’s weather report and you’ve got it.

Mollie, how great that Mrs. Magill is so much on your team!

Van Go, happy gotcha day for Ms. Peach and for you! An event to be celebrated, for sure.

Glad the fried ice cream was a reasonable success, FCM! I’m sure your visiting family will be suitably impressed.

Stay cool, metal mouse! The lawn will keep. It’s not worth risking heat stroke just to be the envy of your neighbors. Re the pet insurance, yeah, it took me about 2 seconds to work out what a bad deal that was going to be. And I did tell the insurance representative that they really ought to publish their coverage limitations before people actually sign up for a plan.

I think I know now why my vet’s office calls their plan “Golden Paws”, though. Ollie’s paws will be worth more than gold by the time I’m done paying for them.

Good idea to take it easy today, red. I hope you feel better soon. And what a crap way to start your day with the monkey dishes episode! I’ve had similar experiences, and they make you wonder why you got out of bed.

I remember that, and I am so sorry. :frowning: I had a similar experience with my last little dachshund almost 6 years ago, and I’m not over that, either. It’s a horrible way to lose them.

Vet care in my area has gotten ridiculous in what it costs. I’ve had lots and lots of animals while I’ve lived here, from horses to goats to llamas to pigs to chickens to cattle to dogs and cats. Most of them simultaneously. Everything got regular routine care and any illness or accident was immediately looked after and treated. None of it cost what taking care of this one little dog costs today.

I’ve done cost comparisons with other vets in the area, as well, and while Ollie’s vet clinic is a little more expensive, they are not outrageously so. It’s just the way the overall cost increases have gone. Ollie will be my last pet because of it, I’m afraid. And I fear vets will price themselves out of business.

I remember that, too. I’m so glad you got the opportunity to do it! It’s one still on my bucket list, one that will likely go unchecked. But you never know!

Cat Glove, what a kind invitation. I’ll keep it in mind if I ever find myself in your part of the country!

cookie, I so relate to your ordeal. I’m still trying to sort out the snarl with my cell phone company. I’ve devoted hours to sorting it with the help of an in-person customer support per-feshunul, and it’s still not fixed. The Mother Ship needs to get its shit together. I’ll be pursuing Round Two on Saturday if their store isn’t too busy. Glad the spaghetti sauce came out to your liking!

So I forgot that the town nearest my home that actually offers services like fuel, banking and groceries is going to be completely overrun from today through Sunday due to an annual Scandihoovian festival. It is always a zoo, but it’ll be worse this year because of our very nice cooler-than-usual weather. I avoid it like a hornets’ nest. I don’t have anything against people celebrating their cultural roots. But I don’t care for dense crowds or dealing with all the attendant issues they bring, like scarcity of parking, etc. If I want aebleskivers, I’ll just make them at home.

I think I worked out a way to get my errands run without having to go anywhere near the town until after the festival is over. Inspired by Mumpers and a severe shortage, I’m going on Saturday to see if anything has changed in the past, oh, 48 years, so I can donate blood. Maybe they will no longer care about all my allergy shots in adolescence. Anyway, the blood drive location will take me into Ewe-Jean, so I can run my errands then and avoid the craziness of the Scandi celebrants.

Now I want Swedish meatballs. Hmmm…

Enjoy your days, everyone, as much as you can!

Yeah, true dat. Ms Peach got her booster shots the other day. 2 shots, an oral dose of bordetella, and a nail clip, $450.

So, no beating bullies up then? :stuck_out_tongue:

A couple of years ago, Nelson needed a couple of teeth pulled and the cost for cleaning and pulling them at his vet then came to $1600. I asked around at work and found his next vet, but it was still $900. I know they have an office to keep open, but it does make it hard on a budget. Fortunately, his checkup and vaccinations here weren’t nearly that much.

I am feeling some better. I managed to get laundry done (it’s still in the dryer though) and hacked Nelson’s feet off with a rusty machete trimmed Nelson’s nails. He’s now forgiven me (funny how his favorite treat will do that) and is enjoying uppies. Other than that, I read and napped most of the day.

Well, that’s the thing, and it’s what makes Ollie’s Golden Paws plan worthwhile. It includes the annual teeth cleaning under anesthesia (I don’t fancy any vet’s chances without it), unlimited vet visits, all of his vaccinations and other regular care such as annual fecal test, wellness bloodwork, heartworm test, radiographs, ECG and so on. Until recently, he needed anal gland expressions every 3 weeks. I’ve now got that down to every 2 months plus. Sorting out his skin issues required regular visits. So he’s going to visit the vet at least every other month and likely more often, with possible ear infections, etc. With Ollie, it’s always something, and often something expensive.

His teeth are good so I’ve got that going for me. I do brush them regularly. But every dachshund needs annual teeth cleaning – it’s a weak spot in their physiology. So by the time I figure the cost of that plus regular visits plus plus plus, Golden Paws is still the way to go. But still expensive!

I spend more on his care than my own.

LOL, poor Nelson, red! Ollie is scheduled for foot-hacking on Tuesday. He cries but submits – so long as there are two people to hold him down. Fortunately, the kennel folks that do his nails only charge $20/visit. And he likes them despite the torment.

I talk about him too much here, but he’s my guy. It was a lonesome house before he came.

Many MMPers are pet people, so we like hearing about the Mumpets. Pictures are also always a good thing.

It’s not an issue. First off, the corn flakes are smashed till they’re small crumbs, then they’re mixed with cinnamon and sugar and browned in butter on the stove - that makes them crispy little bits. Then as soon as they’re put in contact with the ice cream, regardless of how, they go back in to the freezer, so no time for soggies. Then to serve, it’s out of the freezer, on to a plate, topped with honey, chocolate, and whipped cream, then ingested.

Tonight, I tried making the dessert in a square pan rather than round scoops. It was easier to serve, except that the crumbs that were the bottom layer decided to stay in the pan when I removed the ice cream. I don’t think I’ll do it that way again. I ordered an ice cream scoop - we’ll see if that makes it neater.

I know what you went thru - I had to set up an IDMe account - it better be secure after all the nonsense I went thru to create it. And all I need to access is SS. I don’t deal with the VA for anything.

FCD certainly liked it. He wants me to get caramel topping as well as chocolate. He’s not a proper chocoholc. But he’s got enough other good qualities that I’ll probably stay married to him…

I fear animals will end up suffering because people can’t afford going to the vet. I wonder how many won’t get shots… or is it cheaper to go to the clinics at Petco or PetSmart?

Getting Otis groomed today cost a whopping $40!
:face_with_crossed_out_eyes:
Of course, our groomer/kennel keeper works from her house and has no employees, so no appreciable overhead. The same grooming at the place we took him once was $85, plus tip!!! And Otis got to play with his buddy Dolly before it was his turn to be cleaned and pressed.

Time to find something to stream while crocheting. Off I go!

They are! I love looking at the Mumpets. I did post a few recent pics of Ollie in the Pet Pictures thread at the request of another regular poster, but I’ll see if I can get a few more of Ollie just for Mumpers. He’s got this stupid way of smiling and I’d love to catch that.

Howdy Y’all! Funeral setup got done and we had a good lunch at Newk’s. I made the chikin sallit and then had a nice nap. We had a tstorm come through around three p.m. that cooled things down. We sat out on the back porch and sipped Bloody Bubbas and just enjoyed the booms and the rain.

VanGo happy gotcha day to Ms Peach and you!

MOOOOOOM look at you eatin’ all healthy like!

Knotty skip the ice cream shop? Unthinkable!

Mollie glad the new printer is cooperative. Tech stuff does not cooperate with me until I have said enough bad works to qualify me for extra speshul sooper sekrete double confession. Glad Mrs Magill is on board with you.

Nuts hope you have dried jammies by sleep time. Well, you are probably havin’ sleep time as I post.

{{{red}}} just cause it looks like you could use a hug.

Cookie ah yes, the joys of dealin’ with the gummit online. I do it with SS from time to time. My doc’s office is almost as bad.

Here is Ms Peach completely (hah!) wiped out from the vet visit.
And then after about 5 minutes when she recovered.

Yes that torn up couch is her fault. The rest of the mess is on me, aside from dog toy detritus on the floor.

As it turned out, we did not skip the ice cream shop. I had the Mint Mint Chocolate Chip

Adventures in public transit.
I was at the transit center. There were some guys and a gal hanging; I’ve seen them at the dinners.
They are discussing Wizard of Oz. “The scarecrow needed a heart.”
Me-no that was the tin man. Scarecrow needed a brain.
A Doper, always correcting.
Had to tell you all
I see a senior man, he walks by. I notice his Motorhead t shirt.
Me-the ace of spades.
He turns; Someone knows Motorhead!
Yeah, from their appearance on The Young Ones.
Saw him again on bus.
Hes telling the driver, she yells ace of spades and gives the devil horn sign. Of all the people, you’d never think it was her!
Me-Do I look that innocent?
Him-Its a compliment, trust me.
Me-ah, understood.
