(Old) Waking up to White Stuff in the MMP

Tired and won’t post long. I need a shower and bed before heading back to the hospital in the morning.

When I got home tonight, I noticed that the catsitter had fed them a second breakfast AND lunch. I’ve also noticed that the kitty treats are disappearing faster than they should.

While I’ve been waiting around, I went to a couple of stores I’d noticed in the past and bought an antique lamp and a glass vase. I brought my needlepoint and stand today, so it has been less costly.

I saw a lovely stained glass floor lamp that I’m probably going to go back and get after all of this stuff is over, a thirty-five dollar lamp with beaded shade is a much different decision than a 450 dollar full sized stand lamp that doesn’t really match my colors unless I squint.

In Taiwan now. Only for a few days but I could meet my students as well.

The food is really good ! I’m teaching some cousins whose parents are good friends of my wife and we went for a buffet lunch. I’m sure I gained weight. It was really good to see them in person because it’s normally just online.

Internet is out. Xfinity is looking into it. Estimated repair in a few hours. On cellular.
Pavo, that’s hard stuff and I’m glad you’re going to get some more info.

Thank you so much !! We are so thankful for the coaches and referees!

I don’t know if I’ve ever had those. Now you are making me hungry.

That’s great. I’m sure that will be appreciated.

Evening all. Did my soccer stuff and had time left over for an hour at the gym, so don’t feel too guilty about all the pasta I stuffed in my face about an hour ago. Watched the end of the tackleball game and will probably catch some of the evening game, how much will be up to me. It’s 50F now and heading downward and except for 1-2 days next week, it’s not getting any warmer than that for the rest of the month. Home, fed, and hydrated and will be doing a whole lot of nothing for the rest of the day.

A good evening is hopefully either done or is still underway, boo fae

Taters, I hope they get your finances straight soon, I remember that things went pretty well for me after I retired, but I guess with all the turmoil going on the Federal employment these days they are getting behind. And it sounds like you got out of that place just in time, at least for your mental peace of mind…

wet one, rain mixed with snow just doesn’t sound that appetizing to me, but down here in N. Ali-bama we don’t have to worry much about that…

Enjoy the rest time with Sadie, cookie

FCM, still drizzling a little here, but the rain is due to depart shortly, just leaving the clouds and cool weather behind…

swampy, all I remember from my Cat-Lick days was them saying “The blood of Christ” without any embellishments. But it’s been a long time since then so maybe they’ve changed it.

Nut, I remember learning about all the wonderful names the Scots give the road gritters and I think my favorite from your link is “Your a Blizzard, Harry” and “Gritty McGritface”. Hope the rats enjoy the new bedding.

FCM, never been to the San Diego Zoo and at those prices, never plan to. I was spoiled in St. Louis, the zoo there is free to visit (extras cost) and for that matter, so is the Washington National zoo. However, I would like to visit the USS Midway sometime, I have about 4 battleships and 3 carriers in my collection and wouldn’t mind adding another.

rocky, sorry that the Kindle seems to have vanished for good.

Pavo, that is certainly not the way to start a year. Best wishes to your wife and hope they come up with a plan that let’s her health improve. And had my HVAC replaced about 6 years ago, and I still wince remembering that bill…

doggio, sorry the Carolinian’s lost, but it was a heck of a game.

JtC, talk about fat cats…and will they hold the lamp for you or do you plan to get it soon?

lily, hope your internet resumes it’s function shortly.

Sensei, didn’t have to referee my second game, they are training youth referees to do the U8’s so I monitored 4 girls between 13-16 doing their first indoor games. They did pretty well, IMHO.

And that’s all for this report. Maybe more later.

All the Christmas stuff is put away, laundry is nearly done, and the new level 2 charger is wired up and working.

The boys’ Bolt has a full charge, and my Hyundai will be good to go in the morning.

I enjoyed the San Diego Zoo.

Internet restored. Things posted. Social Security message followed up on.

The kittens have been a little… smeary. We’ve started feeding them rice and have changed from the fancy expensive highly-rated litter to something coarser so they won’t track their… smear out of the bathroom. Pray for us.

Thanks. I know I’ll manage to improve it, anyway.

I hope you had a nice day, whatever you decided to do! I see you decided to go into town and have dinner out. What did you have?

Hope you had a happy, happy birthday, Bbbooo!

You can say that again. As for Atticus Sappington, I have no idea if he’ll still be on the team next year – but I hope so.

I shan’t.

cookie, good job on helping out with Every Meal – they sound like a fine organization.

Taters, add me to the list of folks who believe you made a well-timed exit. It still must be painful to hear about. Good luck donating the old mountain bikes. People will be glad to have them, I’m sure.

red, sounds like you’re improving by leaps and bounds – it’s so good to hear.

Pavo, I hope everything goes as smoothly for you and Mrs. Pavo as it possibly can, and you get through this challenging time without further complications. That bites about the furnace replacement. It’s always something.

If you’re like me, you don’t mind them losing so much, but please, not because of stupid crap like this! Sorry your Panthers lost.

Has Hubs had a relapse on the cellulitis as you and he suspected? I hope it can be treated quickly and he’s back home with you and the fuzz butts as soon as possible. I know you want the same, especially with the over-generous catsitter. GG and Jolene will be insufferable for awhile as you ease them back onto a reasonable food schedule. Your soon-to-be new lamp sounds lovely. Please give Hubs my best!

Lily, glad you’ve got your internet back and functioning well. May the smeary kittens resolve soon to something more… solid.

Another quiet day here at Chez Glow. Ollie spent the day laboring to convince me he really does need 8 peanut halves as treats throughout the day, in addition to the other regular treats he gets. There’s the 2:00 p.m. stuffed Kong, the 9:00 p.m. cookie as a reward for being good about taking his pill, and there are the two tasty bits he gets for going into his crate at bedtime. Plus his hopelessly complicated breakfasts and dinners. (2 chopped raw green beans, a spoonful of pumpkin puree, a spoonful of wet food, a chunk of a chub of crumbled Fresh Pet, a half teaspoon of psyllium husk, all mixed with some warm water.)

We took a pleasant little ramble around the place while the sun was out and that was nice. Tomorrow he’ll get a good romp off leash at my friend’s fully fenced place. Looking forward to that. It’s a joy to watch him scamper around, sniffing everything and seeing what he can bark at. Their neighbors have llamas, so that’s always fun for him. The llamas are just bored by it.

AITA for calling Topaz “Tomaco” and Shiso “Tarantula”?

Same boat. (But we don’t have a boat, so we’ve got that going for us.)

@nelliebly :people_hugging: for your and your daughter.

Is this the one that goes through the Panama Canal? Maybe I should convince my parents to go on another cruise after the one in August.

:crossed_fingers:
Hope that you don’t have to wait too long for the next steps. Not knowing is no fun.

What’s a Tomaco?

The 15 cm (6”) snow melted on Friday/Saturday. Then it cooled down and now we have a new layer of snow which is 8 cm (3.5”) and it’s still coming down.

For the first time ever, we saw a small snow plow on the sidewalk between the buildings. Might be part of the benefits of getting a new landscape company. The road is plowed and salted by the town, but that doesn’t cover the private roads within the building complex.

Brought up the bins for the Christmas stuff yesterday, and took down a few things. Today I’ll get it all packed away. Due to the weather, hubby’s not excited about going for a walk. If the sun comes out after lunch, we might go then.

Finished the med forms for hubby’s surgery and tomorrow he has an appointment with the PCP for the prep work.

And I just realized I hid the box for the whisky bottle behind the Christmas stuff, so that’s gotta go.

Belated birthday wishes for @BippityBoppityBoo.
Time to be productive. Maybe.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and mostly cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have verger duty. Afterwards we have been invited to lunch at a local Chinese place. I think I mentioned this before. Nappage will no doubt be needed after that.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth. Since the Packers blew a 21-3 lead and lost to the Bears(The Bears? Really?), I can catch up on my YouTubes on Sundays now.

Nah. Cats are chill about their names.

A Simpsons reference, I think.

Which is nice.

ETA: It’s 57 degrees Ferret Height(13.89 Centipedes out), which is about the high temp for the day, and it’s all downhill from here.

Tomacco- a plant combining tomato and tobacco. Simpsons.
Theres an inch of snow.
Potluck at church. Then checking football scores.

Yep, San Diego to Fort Lauderdale. We did an in-and-out of the east side of the canal about 8 years ago, but I want to do a full transit. We’ve got a balcony on the starboard side, so we’ll be facing south during the transit.

It’s easy to be chill when you ignore everything…

OK, just about to leave for the boat. Otis will spend the day at the doggie daycare/kennel. I’m going to paint and FCD will work on Nav lights. I’m hoping for a short work day. I had a bad night - only about 3 hours of sleep due to gastrointestinal distress and the resultant multiple treks to the terlit. I think it’s settled. I guess we’ll see.

Happy Sunday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/40f with a predicted high of 11c/51f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s not that fucking cold outside. People from Canada will tell you to fucking get over yourself.” It’s warming up out there, it was definitely below freezing when we got home last night. Hopefully we will get rain today too, so hopefully that will wash some of the snow away.

That’s really sad to read, I’m glad you were able to do something to help.

Is there a local youth club or somewhere that might know of someone who could help? Or could you sell them yourself and donate the money to a charity of your choice?

Thank you  To be fair, this shade of purple is relatively tame compared to some of the things I’ve done to my poor old head in the past!

I am glad he got a good send-off and everyone was able to celebrate his life too. Using the best local caterer is always a winner! Before she died, mum gave me a chunk of cash to spend on her reception and told me exactly who she wanted to do the food etc, and some of the things that definitely had to be on the menu!

You’re lucky to get the mini-gritters, we don’t have such luxury down here in the frozen middle wasteland. The thaw has started though, the road outside is wet rather than icy today, and the bit where cars are parked is slowly turning to slush. We just need some rain to deal with the rest of it.

We went to the zoo many years ago, it was just over $50 each then, and we got a small discount by booking them via the concierge desk at our hotel. We justified it to ourselves as a holiday treat, since we were not expecting to return to San Diego again. My local zoo’s admission charges would be around $28 for an adult and $20 for children over 3yrs old. The cheapest tix are online, bit more expensive at the gate, and there’s a small voluntary donation price too.

I’m sorry it’s not been the best of starts for you and your wife, it’s a lot to take in at once so it’s good that she has you for support. The added debt problem is nasty though.

Not what we were planning! We went to the Lych Gate pub where someone had a birthday party but several people weren’t able to make it because of the snow, so they had a load of leftover buffet food. Not wanting it to go to waste, they offered it to the handful of people in the pub, so that ended up being dinner

Fabulous! Llamas are such funny things

The white stuff did not thaw at all yesterday and given the early kick-off for the home footie game, we opted to go out later in the afternoon. We decided walking wasn’t a good idea so I summoned an Uber to take us into town. We started off at the Posada, our favourite barmaid was working so she was already pouring our drinks as we came through the door.

The pub has a new jukebox too, it’s got some interesting stuff on it and also works via an app. ‘im indoors put some music on and then grumbled because someone had used the app and got their choices in before him! Then he found out that another pub we go to has the same jukebox app, so he could sit in the Posada and put some music on down the road in the Clarendon

After the Posada, we went over the road to the Lych Gate and had some free buffet food which was very good, and very kind of the person whose party it was. Then of course, we ended up heading down the road to the Giff. Somehow, we always seem to end up there even when we aren’t planning to. It was quite empty in there, the snow and icy conditions had kept a lot of people away, and the football fans had already gone home. We stayed there until about 2am, then got a cab home, had a cup of tea and some cheese on toast with Marmite, then headed to bed.

I have nothing planned for today, I’m hoping we get some rain to help get rid of the snow and ice, and I shall be spending my afternoon being slothful. I found an unwatched season of TWD: Daryl Dixon on the kodi box so I might be spending some time with Greasy Daryl later

Gonna be more now that trump has cut the food stamps off for the state. :frowning:

Blood clots in the other foot. He doesn’t have heart vents, just a stent so they are monitoring him closer than they would you and me.

I don’t know if I really want that lamp or if I just think I do because I don’t want to think too hard about what is going on.

Well, the cat sitter is coming up the driveway and it has started snowing. Guess I’d better grab my stuff and head out.

Have great days everyone.

The main reason we won’t go to the zoo in San Diego - FCD couldn’t handle all the walking. The Midway will be enough of a challenge for him. And don’t bother suggesting a cane or a walker. Ain’t gonna happen. Can you say stubborn?

OK, it’s about time to head out. Laterz…

Afternoon.

It’s been raining most of the night, as the oracles predicted. The ice has gone aside from in the big tub of water left out to collect rainwater.

I posted a few weeks ago about my friend who just lost his mother and on his second day back after taking a week off to sort it all out, his job said they were sending him on a month long trip to deal with South American farmers. Well, they cut it down to a 2 week trip, but he’s been sent to Paraguay. Yesterday they sent him to a farm in an area that has an ongoing insurgency and he got detained by an armed paramilitary group. They only held him about half an hour, and he’s fine but… I think he may finally have realised that this job isn’t a great idea. He’s living in Germany, and the job barely pays more than local minimum wage, because he’s working remote from a company based in Spain, where wages are lower. Hardly worth that sort of situation.

I’m hopefully going to drag him off to the Canary Islands for a week in February, to relax and stay somewhere in the centre of the island where the reviews say there’s no wifi and very little phone signal.

Here in Elkhart, Indiana, it’s now 24 Frangipanis, with light snow and lots of wind.

Our legislature has gotten down to business with its work to make the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich the Official State Sandwich. My reactions are, “It’s about time!,” and “What about health care?” It’s nice to know they’re awake, anyway.

We started watching The Closer last night. It’s a cop show that was first aired 20 years ago, but has now been picked up by Netflix.

Ancient joke warning! Ironically, there are no Canaries in the Canary Islands. The same is true in the Virgin Islands; no canaries there, either.
