What’s really shocking is that this is the norm in the richest country in the world. The number nationwide is something like 14 MILLION.
Morning all. DId get to bed early after yesterday, slept until 7:00 and have done the NY Times run, so no more activity until dinner time (Meatloaf and fixin’s at Logans Roadhouse) and U10 soccer for most of the afternoon. The rain is gone and the sky is clear, but the temperature is 39F and will barely make it to 45F later, so the warm winter days are gone for awhile.
lily, with pets, you take the good with the bad, and the cuddles with the smears…as for the names, if the conduct fits…
Dicey, happy packing and…
But not the Whiskey, obviously…
swampy, happy vergering and enjoy Lunch.
FCM, hope the boating work goes well and that you get to feeling better.
boo fae, nothing better than free dinner. And I bet those jukebox apps that can affect more than one bar don’t last what with the potential of abuse (IMHO).
Nut, Yikes! for your friend, I have had armed guards with our party at times (Egypt many years ago) and been in some places that worried me, but never held by a group. Hope he can find a new job soon.
Knots,
Them being awake might not be the best thing overall…
And that’s all for now, catch y’all later.
Good morning.
It’s 45F and damp outside. We’re expecting cloudy skies with occasional rain all day long. The expected daytime high is 49F.
Nuts, wow, how scary! I’m glad your friend is okay.
Pavo, I’m sending my best to you and your wife. I hope things go smoothly for her.
JtC, I’m sending good thoughts to you and your hubby, too.
As for just selling the bikes, I don’t really want to deal with the haggling and hassle. Also, I’m just not keen on strangers coming to my house. Twenty years ago, it wouldn’t have bothered me so much, but times are different now. I’ll get something figured out. I was hoping to donate to a family shelter, but we’ll see what really happens.
That’s about all that’s happening here. My husband’s foot is improving each day, and the limp is pretty much gone.
I think for now, I’ll finish my coffee and then run the rollsuck. You all take care of yourselves, please.
May your respective spouses’ health improve soonest pavo and JtC!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot else shaking today.
Oh, goodness, Nut! That’s crazy.
OMG, don’t tell FCD. He’d watch that over and over and over, as well as Major Crimes, the spin-off. I got so sick of seeing it. That and the various incarnations of Law & Order.
I enjoyed The Closer the first time around, and even the second, but after that…
Anyway, home! Window frame painting is done. FCD got some measurements for some spacer blocks, but he was as tired as I was. I don’t think we were there much longer than 2 hours. Then we went to Texas Roadhouse for our main, and probably only, feed. Then a quick stop at Lowes, another quick stop to pick up Otis, and now we’re home. I don’t foresee anything being accomplished for the rest of the day - at least not by me.
It’s crazy windy out - the kind that just cuts thru a body. Even in the house it feels cold despite the temp being 70 Ferrets in here. I’m going to don something comfy and warm and plant myself on the recliner. I’ll probably crochet because the last half dozen or so trashy novels I tried to read were particularly awful. I’m not expecting classic literature, but when the first chapter reeks, there’s little chance of it getting better.
No matter. The painting is done and chillage shall ensue.
I’ll bet your local high school has kids that would love a bike.
Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone. Hubs is home now. Back when he had his quad bypass, they stripped the veins in his legs to transplant to his heart. That made it trickier for them to roto-rooter the clot out so they had to use clot busting drugs first.
After I sat with him for a while this morning, I went to a very nice coffee house (coffee served in thick clear glass mugs) that didn’t accept tips. No tip jars, no tip line on the check, and cash was refused.
It was only slightly more expensive than I’m used to, I’m assuming that the price increase allowed them to pay their waitstaff properly. Good coffee too, I’ll go back next time I’m there.
Bright Tree, do you kneed your sourdough? Most of the recipes I’ve read don’t call for it, but a few do. I’ve been doing both and think the results after kneeding are better but that might just be me justifying the extra work.
I’ll read all but probably won’t be doing a lot of relying tonight. Laundry has been stacking up, the kitchen needs mopped and I haven’t changed the sheets for three days.
Have great evenings everyone!
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then had a good lunch. It was fun to hang out and have some laughs with folks we like. I had chikin with snow peas and OYKW had beef and broccoli. As is the case with Chinese food, the portions were hyuuuge, so we brought home leftovers. We nuked ‘em a little while ago and split with each other. Made for a tasty sup. Also, it’s Sunday night, so the biiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I realize the importance of such reports in the MMP.
JtC glad hubs is back home. No doubt Jolene is glad to have her man back.
Nuts eek! Definitely time for your friend to find a new gig.
BooFae free good eats sounds like a win-win to me! I want folks to have a big party when I shuffle off. Won’t matter to me if it’s a party to celebrate me or a party to celebrate not havin’ to put up with me anymore. Actually I hope it’s kinda both. Maybe they’ll all wind up at Waffle House at three a.m. and have a brawl in my honor.
OYKW likes The Closer. I am not big on crime shows. When he’s watchin’ it I always say, “so what’s ol’ duck lips up to?”
I did my cleaning, dusting, and vacuuming. I changed Spot’s litter box, filled the vermin feeder, and took out the trash and recycling. I napped. Spot had zoomies. I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned while the poke loin and N.O.T. bake.
Nah, Spot is very perceptive when it comes to the annoyance of his primates.
Eek.
Doe’s Eat Place in Greenville, MS has armed guards. Hate to think what the Waffle House is like.
Yay!
I love 'em
He smells like he’s been at the vet, LOL! She got over it almost right away but George snubbed him for five minutes or so. (cats often look sideways at their housemates if they’ve been to the vet, especially if they’ve been gone for a few days.)
Its a darn good thing Hubs is home and on his feet because our bin goes out tomorrow evening and that is not my job!
I can’t think of a higher honor!
So laundry is almost done and the kitchen is presentable again. The fuzzbutts are slobs and make a mess despite their placemats.
Our cat sitter stayed the day because if she’s over here “working” she doesn’t have to help her mom clean the bathrooms. I’m going to talk to her mom about this, I don’t want to lose a reliable cat sitter because I’m causing problems at home.
Harry dropped by to check up on Hubs and they had a good natter about how doctors never listen and just keep people too long for the money and how horrible hospital food is.
I knew I wasn’t going to make it to the capital today, so I brought my sign and handmaid uniform (James made me a new sign. It still says SHAME but now it has blood red letters and three bloody bullet holes.) and camped out at the county seat for a while. A younger couple came up and said they thought the protest was going to be on the 20th. I said that I was mad now so why wait? They left and then came back in a while with their own signs and stood with me for an hour.
I think I am going to get that lamp. Now that I’m not so stressed over Hubs and have time to think…I don’t think I had suddenly started leaning on retail therapy, I really do like that lamp and think it will work with my decorating plans.
It was horrible windy here today as well. I spent most of it on the Ohio border and now I’m back on the Kentucky side so the wind is blowing all over it seems.
Have you ever read any Janet Evanovich? She doesn’t write trashy romances, but there is a lot of kissing stuff involved when she’s not falling off a balcony into a pile of dog puke. I don’t like actually reading them because the voice actor for the Stephany Plum series is so good that she could probably make you laugh while reading a shopping list. I’ve done a lot of stitching to her, I think the series is up to thirty something now.
There is enough money that we don’t have to have homeless or hungry people here. And…Imma kick my soapbox back under the loveseat right now.
I’ve spent more than a few hours watching CHiPs (late 70’s motorcycle cop show) without ever noticing the plot because I was too busy looking at the cars and clothes and the scenery.
I agree that he doesn’t get paid enough for that sort of thing.
WOW, I’m glad he’s OK.
Looks like the kittehs are settling in.

I decided to shower this evening instead of tomorrow morning because I felt mega-grubby. Now I feel all clean and ready for sleepy-bye. ![]()
Till tomorrow ![]()
Evening all. Home from the soccer games, I only had to referee 4 of them this week instead of 5, but still fairly worn out. The Logan’s Roadhouse meatloaf was delicious as always and I decided to splurge and went to a place call The Cookie Fix (a small chain in the South) for four big chocolate chip cookies that I microwaved for a few seconds to make the chocolate a little more gooey, so my calorie counter is well and truly overboard for the day, but still in negative numbers for the week. We’ll see what the scale says tomorrow. Down to 33F and heading to 23F so no intention of going outdoors until 10am or so tomorrow.
And time to play catch-up scrolling…
Taters, glad Husband’s foot is on the mend.
FCM, I am of the opinion that there is an episode of either Law & Order or CSI (counting all the spin-offs) being televised 24/7 in the USA every day of the week. But glad the painting is done.
lily, lovely pics, looks like the felines are getting along well.
JtC, nice story and hooray for the couple.
Never a big CHIPS fan, but am watching Emergency on MeTV in the afternoon (stories about paramedics and hospital folks, ran from 1972-77).
And that’s all I wrote for this week. Be well and I’ll see everyone tomorrow on the next MMP.
Schlaf gut!
Mark Spitz was a great swimmer, but a horrible acter!
Good that they’re on cuddle terms already. Buddy and Kasya took a little while, and can still be variable about it. I suspect there’d be a lot more kitty cuddles over here if Kasya didn’t have that fondness for trying to chew on Buddy’s throat. I’m still amazed he hasn’t seriously whomped her for that. He just shoves her away and relocates.
They’re both going to be unhappy after midnight, since the food dish has to be put away at that point. Kasya’s getting her spay tomorrow, and the instructions specify she can’t eat after midnight, and I can think of no way for Buddy to have food access when she doesn’t, short of sticking her in a carrier all night, which doesn’t seem like the best bet (she does need access to the litterbox and to water).
I bought her a “recovery suit”, which is very similar to a baby onesie, but arranged to allow the wearer to use the litterbox while keeping torso wounds covered. I think that’ll work out better than the lampshade collar that makes it tough for the wearer to eat or drink. Tried it on her when it arrived yesterday to make sure she had the correct size. She does not seem to approve of being dressed. ![]()
We feel lucky with these two. I would have picked up a recovery suit for Shiso, but she’s so tiny I didn’t think I could find one on time.
I’m in!

There are channels of several versions of both running 24/7 every day on Pluto.
LOL, well, that worked out, didn’t it?
Glad you had such a pleasant evening out!
They are fun. I had a pair for about 13 years and they almost always delighted me. Among other things, I learned that to harness a llama, you have to dance with it first. They also kept our goats safe.
Great news, and what a relief he is recovering well!
All my recipes call for kneading except the artisan-style loaves. My results are better with kneading, too. I get into trouble by being impatient, both with letting the starter develop and with the rising periods. I’m beginning to remember, though! Enjoy your new lamp (when you get it), and I loved the story about the couple that came back to join you at the county seat.
Sounds like you had a thoroughly delightful day, swampy. Yayy!
Lily, the kitty photos are just so… so… squee!! They are beyond precious. Looks like all is going smoothly. And J wears his Ducks shirt like a boss. ![]()
metal mouse, those cookies sound like something you’ve earned a few times over. I’m glad you enjoyed them!
Nettie, good luck with Kasya’s surgery tomorrow. I’m sure it will go well.
Ollie and I spent the day hanging out with my friends on their fenced property. It was a very pretty day, sunny and cool. Ollie investigated everything thoroughly as a little hound ought. He wore himself plumb out and is now dead to the world. No llamas in sight today, though. I then enjoyed a nice lunch with my friends, which included great conversation and wine. Doesn’t get better.
Caught my customary chill from hanging out too long in the cool, damp weather and am now bundled up in throws with a cheery fire blazing away in the wood burner. With luck, I’ll soon be too hot!
Have a great evening, everyone.
