I finally convinced the wife that attending that play is a really poor idea. We’ve been so careful over the years not to be exposed to illness.
The herb-Parmesan dough is in the proofer. Can’t wait for the grilled cheese sandwiches on this.
Happy to see late-night TV back on the air after the holiday hiatus. Kimmel excoriated Trump (Saint Dick-olas) and took the cognitive test to see how he would do.
The rain finally showed up here, but I don’t think it’s cold enough to freeze. At least not with the usual traffic. Tonight could be a different story with the temps dropping into the 20s, though.
As I recall during my time in Scotland it snowed once each winter, just enough to cover the ground.
Ditto.
I can’t help but note that you haven’t posted video, or even just still photos…
Happy next birthday, Red! (I’ve never understood why people say “Happy belated birthday”. The birthday arrived right on schedule – it’s the birthday greeting that is belated.)
I don’t think I can blame it on insomnia so much as excessive caffeine and not being able to turn my brain off. Melatonin works well for me, but unless I remember to take it around 7 or so, it’ll leave me too groggy in the morning. So I’ll whine about it. Tho tonight I’m probably going to sleep with Mel - must set a reminder with Alexa.
Chiming in with everyone else. Sweetie, it’s what we do here. A safe place to vent and the way I see it, if someone doesn’t want to read someone else’s drama/whining/whatever, it’s easy to skip over, especially when it’s blurred (which I usually forget to do.) The MMP is an excellent sounding board and/or pouting corner. Plus we get some good recipes here.
We probably won’t get out of the Chesapeake, but at least one night, we’ll drop anchor in the Patuxent River so the grands can sleep on the boat. And we’d like to go to Baltimore and maybe Havre de Grace. We shall see.
Anyway, home. The application of primer took about 3 hours, maybe a bit less. Just stirring the solids from the bottom of the can took a piece of time. FCD will go back in the morning to do a quick sanding and touch up any spots that need it. And he’ll talk to the guys who are tearing up the floor to find out when it’ll be OK for us to do the next coat. Between the dirty, dusty nature of the work and staying out of their way, I’m not sure when we’ll be able to get back to it.
We met at Salsa’s for lunch, then I ran to Food Lion for a couple of things since it was on my way home. I’m stuffed enough that supper might be an orange or an apple.
Tomorrow is SIL’s b-day and he wants a family dinner at the Japanese steak house. So we’ll meet them tomorrow evening. Till then, chillage.
I take my meds in the morning, and I have left a standing order on my Echo to sound off and remind me to take my second dose of Primidone at 7 PM daily.
No white stuff here. It’s cold overnights, but so far, no snow. I’m fine with that.
I haven’t seen anyone chalking their door here. But I may just not be looking hard enough. I don’t do it.
Those are both really gorgeous! Thanks for posting the pics of them. Tempting, very tempting, but after all the effort I put in to make my own, I guess I’ll stick with those. I already have more kitchen toys than I can manage. Your bread is beautiful!
Anytime is a good time for marzipan, but even better when it’s discounted!
cookie, I make an herb Parmesan focaccia bread that sounds quite similar to your recipe. Now I want to make some.
rocky, I hope you find your Kindle. They’re pretty indispensable.
Piper, yikes! I’m glad your exciting interactions with snow banks ended well. CAA does sound like a great organization, as AAA is here (already mentioned). Still, it’s good that fellow Canadians expressed their concern for your well being.
Red, I used to make dill onion bread, too. It is an unusual recipe made with cottage cheese, and my family loved it. It was our traditional accompaniment to clam chowder on Christmas Eve. But nice on any cold night. Hmmm… Belated or otherwise, happy birthday, and awesome you could spend it at home.
metal mouse, did you ever find the branch or tree that fell and made the thump yet? You may (or more likely, may not!) recall that I mentioned hearing something similar on Christmas Eve. I did finally locate the tree that fell. It’s in one of my wooded areas to the east of the house and it is a big 'un. Not massive, but big. Lucky for me, it fell adjacent to the driveway and not across it. The root ball is comically small. That’s the problem with these Douglas firs. I hope your branch/tree is similarly out of the way. Since you haven’t found the cause of the thump yet, good bet it is. No need to admire my awesome powers of deduction!
Boo Fae, any mac 'n cheese you don’t have to make and clean up after is by definition good mac 'n cheese! But yeah, I hope everything got put back where it belongs. Hope everything goes well for your journey to work tomorrow.
dicey, congrats on getting the crown in the 3 Kings bread! I… guess. Does it signify good luck for the year? You and I are sharing heat pump woes. I hope yours is fixed soon. Mine has a date with a repair fellow on the 15th, so I’ll be heating mostly with wood for more than a week, but hopefully not beyond that.
Lily, congrats on Kitty Day arriving at last! Can’t wait to hear how it all goes!
Yesterday was a day. My handyman pal got here bright and early and we worked to get all the yard debris cleaned up. We ended with a big burn pile for the wood that couldn’t be salvaged for firewood and did workshop cleanup, too. The pile is still smouldering this morning.
It’s nice to have made such progress, though much remains to be done. I didn’t have him remove the actuator arm on the gate yet. Too many other projects to finish up before I let this monstrosity assume such a prominent spot in the kitchen.
I was so tired last night I could barely keep my eyes open, so early to bed and no post in the MMP. Slept pretty well until I got a horrendous leg cramp at around 3:30 a.m. Yow-ickes!!! Not a fun way to wake up.
This morning was an appointment for getting Ollie’s nails trimmed. Good that’s done for another three weeks. If I leave it longer than that, he ends up looking like Wolverine. He has been sitting and staring at me pointedly for the last hour. I know what he wants, but he must wait for another 15 minutes. Then it’s Kong Treat time, and with luck, I’ll get a respite from this staring marathon for an hour or so.
The sourdough starter is coming along. It has a pleasant smell and is already quite active. I think I’ll give it another few days before using it for bread, though. I want that stuff doing pushups!
Time to go round up the wood I’ll need for tonight. Enjoy the day, all!
Topaz and Shiso! Topaz went nuts for a wool mousie. Shiso is a farty little zonked out girl (surgery yesterday + shift from wet baby cat food to dry kitten food). We introduced them but then separated them. I’m in the big bathroom with Shiso and my lovely wife is in the bedroom with Topaz. We switched off a while ago.
He kindly gave me the recipe last year and I was happy with how it turned out.
I haven’t been doing much, but my hands have been full of thread and needles instead of on the keyboard. The “disturbing the peace” charges have been dropped, but my lawyer is strongly advising me to sit down and shut up.
Those stoopid stars kicked my butt again the second time and I don’t get it. They aren’t that complicated and I have a stitch by stitch chart.
So very cute! I hope you have many joyful years with them
Doggio, I want to tell you I find your adventures at work very entertaining.
Maus, we all lean on each other from time to time. It’s one of the reasons we keep coming back.
kaylasdad99, I could never remember the 3 Kings’ names, but the source I looked up said that Gaspar and Caspar are interchangeable, depending on which church you go to.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Also, I made the appointment. Go Me! It is not until April tenth, but it got done. Now I won’t get in trouble with my PCP when I see him next month. The afternoon noon was devoted to RDOS inactivities which included nappage and day drinkin’. The BLTs hit the spot.
Maus write about your journey as much as you wish here. Bein’ here for each other is one of the primary reasons for the MMP. The other reasons bein’ pet pictures, trash reports and general overall silliness. Really, we revel in the ups, downs, ins and outs of each other’s lives. Just remember to use a coaster, never run out of tp, and don’t eat your sallit with the fish fork. Also, yay for the hair growth!
dicey yay for your mom’s new knew and for gettin’ the crown in the king bread.
dad the wiseman’s/king’s name is Caspar. He’s the friendly one.
cookie glad you talked wife outta the play. Culture is not worth the plague.
sensei how do you endure all that vacation trauma!
nuts as long as you have the data you need, let the eejits fight it out amongst themselves.
Lily yay for kittehs! They are keeyooties! I am sure they will soon be BFFs.
And a good evening to all. Got a little rain today but not enough to discourage me from getting over to the gym for about 1,000 calories of walking and cycling, with a little time with the weights thrown in there too. Have dined on my version of Mac-n-Cheese (no pots dirty, just 12 minutes or so in the microwave and Bob’s your Uncle). Have taken most of the garbage out, one more bag tomorrow and wheel the bin down to the curb for Thorsday pickup. Temperature is still 58F an will stay above 50F all night, so the HVAC will have an easy night. And so will I, not planning on moving from the internet until bedtime beckons.
Cookie, thanks for the explanation, just did some checking around the web and apparently Ali-bama is experiencing high rates of flu too, so far so good for me (and I got the vaccine shot last November). Glad wife came to her senses, you can take her out once the weather and the health reports get better.
Dicey, enjoy the bread and I hope they get the heat pump sorted out.
Lily, biding my time until you have a chance to get pictures, hope everything is going well. And I see as I scroll that you anticipated me, they are darlings. Hope the introductions go well.
JtC, the stars look OK to me, but what I know about stitching could be written on a small grain of rice so I’ll take your word on it.
swampy, at least you have something to look forward too… No BLT’s today, but I think they will get worked into the weekly plan sometime soon.
FCM, happy birthday to SIL.
Bright Tree, no sign of anything and since my back yard is fenced in it’s pretty easy to spot things. So the mystery remains… And leg cramps at night will yank me up from slumber like nothing else…hope it settled down.
And that catches me up for the moment. Don’t know if I’ll get a late night final published, but definitley will catch up with all y’all tomorrow.
I finally got permission to throw away a ton of crap from the warehouse, like rent a truck level of throw stuff away. A dozen computers labeled “Kinda worked in 2019” or “mystery hard drive.” A nice still in package copy of Windows XP. There are still 6 or 7 four drawer file cabinets with outdated exhibit documentation, from exhibits that don’t exist anymore, but they have been wrangled into a small area. Plus tossed an ungodly amount of cardboard boxes. The dude who is in charge of travelling exhibits is obsessed with hoarding boxes. And packing materials.
Cute kittehs!!!
It’s above freezing now, but I predict the walk to the garage will be treacherous in the AM. I totally bit it yesterday on the ice in the driveway, fortunately managed to steer my fall onto some of the fluffier stuff. Only thing injured was a box of granola bars in my lunch bag.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/36f with a predicted high of 5c/40f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It would be so fucking chilly if it was warmer outside. Says fucking obvious man.”
Oh, you made a funny!
We had more white stuff yesterday morning, then a bit of a thaw, then a bit of rain in the early evening. This morning we had ice everywhere so it was a very slippery slide for me to get to the railway station.
That’s very good news, I hope she’s making the most of it!
Awww….they are adorable!
That is a lot of throwing stuff away, much work to get it done but very cathartic too.
Yesterday was not really a day for going outside, so I did not. ‘im indoors decided to go to the gym and cycled there as the roads are much clearer than the pavements. I made chilli for dinner, and was in bed at a reasonably early hour.
This morning I was up before 6am, tended to the needs of cats, got my work stuff packed up, and was out of the house before 7am. The walk to the bus stop was treacherous, as was the walk from the other bus stop over the bridge to the station. It looks like there was an accident on the bridge too - there was a delivery truck sideways across the road, and the tram stopped behind it so I am guessing the truck couldn’t get over the brow of the bridge, and the tram obviously couldn’t go anywhere until the truck was moved.
Trains were pretty much on time, and most of the walkways on campus have been gritted so it was much less life-threatening getting to the office on this side of things!
