(Old) Waking up to White Stuff in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 74 and partly sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. We don’t need a whole lot so it should be an easy trip. Of course, we will indulge in the usual RDOS inactivities as is our wont. Sup will be burgers ‘n fixin’s with fries, just cause.

BooFae glad you made it to irk without major incident.

VanGo hope you are not too owie today. Throwin’ crap away, while a chore, can be so satisfyin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Such bother!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Hooray for kitties, Lily!
Hooray for hair, Maus and please feel welcome to say what you need to say here.
Good luck taking down your decorations, Taters. It was very easy taking mine
down here as mostly they were Christmas hats adorning random objects.

Well, I survived the IEP meeting yesterday. Fortunately I don’t have another one until the end of the month. Today will be spent mostly working on progress reports and chatting with my work friends. Still feeling weaker than I’d like to. I’m guessing, though, that it’s a combination of the meds that were reduced and Covid. Ready for that all to be over. Glad it’s not worse, though.

I guess I’m not a good kitteh mom. All the cats we’ve adopted got shown the litter box, the water, then they were turned loose with a “Welcome home!” Granted none were kittens. But we never seemed to have problems. And despite Ziva’s inclination to hide under the bed, her first years here, she did hang out with Taz during daylight hours.

Speaking of whom, Ziva is feeling so thin under her fluff, and while she’s still eating, she doesn’t seem to be eating much. From what I read, a reduced appetite is normal in elderly cats. And apart from avoiding Otis, she doesn’t act much differently. I’m taking it all as signs that she’s an old lady and she’ll likely be gone soon. Circle of life and all that… dammit.

I think FCD was having a bad dream - he woke me around 4 and at first I thought he was in pain, but when I put my hand against his arm, he calmed. So I’ve been up since then - I got maybe 5 hours of sleep, and I was sleeping so soundly!! Such is life, I guess.

And I forgot to mention (brag) the other day. Daughter had a really good review at work and she’s been put in for a promotion!! Apparently her mad Excel skillz have streamlined reporting and some other processes. That’s my girl!!

Luckily, there’s not much going on today, apart from dinner with SIL and the rest of the crew. I do have to repair the gloves from the blast box for FCD, but it’s just split seams, so that’s a quick and easy fix. And it’s supposed to be in the 60s today - I’m thinking a good day to drive the mower around and mulch some leaves.

It’s also my mom’s b-day - the big 92 - so I’ll give her a call at some point. Not sure what else I might get up to. No doubt things will come up. So onward!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Thank you for the support, everyone. It means a lot to me, even if there is the very real possibility you are all a bunch of Turing machines.

It was 48ºF and foggy this morning. I made sure Chloé was wearing her lit vest. Visibility was maybe a hundred feet, but we got our four miles in, even if it felt like we were swimming.

Mrs Magill and I had our Yoga Sculpt and Yin classes last night. Due to the leftover situation at our house (there are SO MANY leftovers), we decided to forgo our usual swing by the local Buffalo wing shop and I made mini-Cubanos out of leftover ham and King’s rolls.

The hair started off as a nice bonus, but the thought of losing it again after the trial ends is distressing. It didn’t really bug me before, but now it does. Thanks, GD. You’re the best!

susan IIRC, Shiso is the black one, correct? Already, she’s looking heathier than in her earlier pictures. I think she’s found a good home.

does not compute… does not compute… :laptop:

Not yet 9, and I’ve showered and dressed, repaired FCD’s gloves, finally planted the spider babies (4 pots of 'em!!) and loaded the dishwasher. I’m also making ice, but that’s minimal effort on my part. SIL texted - his work friend can’t make it tonight, so we can meet and eat earlier - huzzah!! Being hard-core RDOS types, we generally tend to dine between 4:30 and 5, so waiting till 6:30 to meet at the restaurant would be a stretch. But no longer. Whew!

I need to rehome or donate the Williamsburg series by Elswyth Thane. It’s definitely a product of its time, and too racist for me - I managed to read 3 of the 7 and started on the 4th but I just couldn’t. Thrift Books doesn’t want them. I might take them to the library as a donation, but I really should toss them, much as I hate throwing books away. Unless someone here wants them for the price of postage??

Time to haul the shop vac downstairs and clean the fireplace. It’s very ashy. Then, dunno…

Good morning.

It’s 39F and a light rain is falling. Our expected high is 42F, with showers, rain, and clouds for the day.

Very cute kitties, Lily. Hopefully, they’ll become fast friends.

Dicey, I’m glad your mother’s knee replacement went well.

I got all the decorations down and put them away yesterday. There was both a sense of relief and a tinge of sadness, mostly because I like the village’s ambient lighting and the tree. The hardest part is always getting the damn tree broken down and stuffed back into its storage bag. I think I’m going to get a bigger bag next year.

Other than the dedecorating (is too a word), sweeping, and kitchen tidying, that’s about the extent of any chores done.

My husband took a tumble down the stairs yesterday evening. One of the dogs found one of his shoes and left it on the stairway, and the husband tripped on it coming down the stairs in the dark. He went down hard and hurt his foot. I’m worried he may have torn something, and we may have to go to the doctor. I hope not, but we shall see. He can walk on it, but his heel looks a little strange.

We’ll reassess this morning when he gets up. If all is good, I’ll bust out the steam cleaner and clean the stairs because he was carrying a can of Diet Coke that went everywhere. I sopped up all the soda splotches on the rug, but the stairs need a good cleaning anyway. I know I should have done it last night, but after wrestling all the decor back into the low cubby waaaaay at the back of the front hall closet, I was whipped. I banged my head and back on the stupid low overhang twice, too. I need to find a better spot, but this is it for now.

Well, I need some more coffee, and then I should shower.

That’s a big fear of mine, especially since our stairs end on a concrete foundation. I keep a death grip on the railing, and when I descend, I angle about 45° towards the rail. When going up, I lean forward so if I stumble, I’ll fall against the steps. Taking the laundry down, I go backwards, sliding the basket behind (in front?) of me so again, if I trip, I go face forward into dirty clothes. FCD frets but it works for me.

And a good Hump Day morning. Up about 7am and easing into the day, nothing much on the agenda outside of putting the trash bin at the curb tonight. Due to reach 65F today with no rain predicted, so may get out for awhile and do some walkies. Otherwise not much on the agenda.

JtC, I sit corrected. And never have even heard of electrolyte tablets, but if the cramps come back I’ll definitely look into them!

VanGo, sounds like the trash bin was full at your workplace. And be careful, falls are not a good thing (except in science exhibits dealing with water, of course…).

Boofae, take care, hope the city officials have your sidewalks gritted by now.

Sticky Buns, glad the meeting went well and hope you get to feeling stronger.

FCM, Ziva might surprise you and keep on going for a couple more years, at least that is my hope. And yay! for daughter’s incipient promotion! And happy birthday to your Mom, 92 is darn good and from your descriptions she’s doing well for her age.

Domo Arigoto…

Taters, I save myself a lot of fuss and bother by not decorating at all at Xmas. And probably not a bad idea for husband to get checked out, especially if it continues to get worse. One reason I got a single-level house is that I didn’t want to have to deal with steps as I got older.

And nearly 9am so probably should look into breaking my fast. Have a good day all.

Happy birthday to Fairy Chat Grandma!

When I had to take laundry up/downstairs, I used a Rubbermaid tote so’s I could lid it and carry it by my side.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I actually made an omelet on top of the stove this morning, so I’m getting a bit more coordinated!

Kittehskittehskittehs make me happy.

Cloudy and foggy but above freezing and no snow.

Which one’s which?

Unintelligible, but indeed entertaining.

Taters, I hope your husband is okay. I would definitely get him checked out, even if he’s “fine.” My mother refused to let my father take her to the urgent care after slipping on the stairs, because she was “fine.” My sister, the reasonable adult in the relationship overruled her. She had two broken ribs - not a good thing at 72.

We have thses motion activated strip lights at the top and bottom of our staircases. They’re useful when the teenagers inevitably leave their clean laundry on the stairs.

We’re going to a restaurant for their annual lobster fest later this week. We’ve been there before and the tables are well-separated and the ceilings high, so we should be okay. Also, we’re going to the earliest seating, so it will be less crowded.

Today I was loading 200 Bottom Blue, since Miss Cranky Pants wasn’t in. There was extra volume(way more than the 500 my load sheets said), and thye had us start 30min early. I kept up and finished on time, but half the other loaders in the building were in the weeds. i had to load one of the Middle White packages cars to catch them up.

I’ve had mu oatmeal(strawberries and cream) and a bagel(everything, with plain cream cheese), so it’s naptime.

Reminds me of this:

But glad you didn’t go sideways on the way in.

Same with all mine. Spot seems to have adjusted well, apart from his weird quirks.

Couldn’t hurt to have him checked out.

I find avoiding human contact pleasing, even when there aren’t multiple plagues running around.

I ordered some yarn from Michael’s because I had a good coupon. When I went to pick it up, one skein was 7oz instead of the 17oz that I ordered. And it turned out they didn’t have a big skein in that color, so I just grabbed a different color. Then the clerk and her boss (?) had to do some fiddle-farting to “return” the small one and have me buy the bigger one at the on-line price, part of which involved a gift card. They did their magic and all is fine, except I wanted the other color. Oh well…

Then I ran by Aldi for some lunch meat and a couple other things. As I was getting back in the car, FCD called and asked me to go to Tractor Supply (which, luckily, is between Aldi and home) and get him 2 bags of blast media. It’s still in my trunk - I assume he’ll come haul it to his shop eventually.

And once my paltry groceries were stowed, I decided to clean the pellet stove since it’s mild outside and the stove has been off for a few hours. So another (unplanned) chore is done.

I’ve got an appointment with our money guy on Firday - we need some advice on what money would be the wisest to take out. A few $$$ problems have cropped up on the boat (gee, what a surprise… :stuck_out_tongue: ) plus we’ve got our cruise coming up next year and the slip rent is due by April. And we promised to pay for a week of sleep-over camp for Roxy this summer. Anyway, we saved and invested that money for our retirement. We’re retired. So it makes sense to use it, right? In another 10 years, we might be physically unable to enjoy it. So we’ll yonk some out of one of our accounts and use it now. We just want input from Dave as to the best way to do it.

In a coupla hours, we need to head out to meet the birthday boy and his family. I think I’ve earned some chill till then.

They cancelled my 8:30 meeting this morning, meaning I was able swap out the second sculpt class in two days for a power vinyasa class. Now I can lift my arms over my head. We are down enough on leftovers that we could order lunch from our friend’s cafe. This weeks special was a grilled cheese with mozzarella, bacon, and granny smith apple slices on a sourdough.

Time for my afternoon tea. Those gingersnaps aren’t going to eat themselves.

I just realized that you’ve all been deprived of Ms. Sadie’s likeness for too long. I give you: The Christmas Cat.

Love Christmas cat! Congratulations on the new overlords, Susan.

I had a bacon cheeseburger for Christmas lunch. Now I’m home and going with Nordic tradition of reading and chocolate.

Still no kindle. Back to work tomorrow, where the backup kindle lives. The search continues.

I forgot - there was a vixen somewhere nearby who was looking for love this morning. Foxes in heat make a truly frightful noise. I would much rather that they say, “Ring ding ding a-ring-a-ding-ding.”

Sadie is so cute!

We have progressed to the pouncing and tail-biting stage. Topaz (tabby) is bigger but a little spooked by Shiso (black).
