What’s wrong with that? They iz smaht ppl.
Long Night was okay, if .. well, long.
There was whole entire (small-ish) dead tree in our dumpster, half of it sticking out the lid. I have questions.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. If it’s like the rest of the week, I may be done early. If it was slow because volume was delayed, God help us. it’s currently 80 degrees Ferret Height(26.667 Centipedes)
The Ent Mafia whacked Treebeard?
Why not, fezzes are cool.
A dog’s second favorite flavor is stick.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 94, partly cloudy this afternoon and TWPTB say rain around five p.m. We shall see. We will have some quality cee-mint pond time along with the usual RDOS sloth. I am still jonesin’ for Bojangles, so that is likely to be today’s main need to feed. I foresee it as a late lunch/early sup. The new season of Sweet Magnolias has dropped on Netflix, so we will binge watch. The show is so sappy to the point of gagworthy. We snark all the through each episode, but really like watchin’ it.
Mollie yay for Mollie gettin’ to go out tonight!
JtC I wanted flyin’ cars. Instead it seems we can remotely check if the cat has pooped whilst sippin’ on a margarita. I am not at all sure what I think of this.
doggio glad the power came back, but boo about the fridge cleanout. At least your apartment remained relatively cool.
FlyBoy lookin’ snazzy in that bowtie! If I were goin’ for the professor look, I’d go with the evil mad scientist professor look.
JtC I gather Jolelne and GG were unimpressed with the frawg.
VanGo I am sure it was a most impressive stick for Ms. Peach to bring it inside to show off.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Nice frog JtC! I keep meaning to make a wildlife pond here (skeeters aren’t much of an issue round these parts), I always used to have lots of froggies around…
Today’s plan was to pressure wash the back patio, cos the kit is borrowed and I will need to give it back at some point and the forecast for today has been looking around 20C and sunny all week. Day dawns, and it’s cloudy, now only supposed to be 17 centipedes and windy, with possible rain later. Bah. I’ll give it a go later, but I suspect I won’t get all that much done.
That just might be a bit too much… save it for Halloween, but go with the rest.
Someone didn’t want to pay a disposal fee so your dumpster was a free option?
My day has started at 68 Ferrets, heading to the upper 80s. We’ll be taking the boat out on a test run. FCD got all the heat exchangers installed yesterday and he said the engine temp stayed low - maybe we’ve been running too hot all along? We’ll put it thru its paces and see how it goes. We’re also going to take the mattresses for our cabin and install them. I need to find the mattress pad for our side. The side for Otis will just get a sheet.
We got some good rain last night - I heard it when I went to bed. So my gardens got a good drink. I crashed fairly early, then woke around 2 for bladder urgency. From there it was sleep and wake erratically till 6-ish. Weird dreams, too, tho I can’t remember any. My brain is messing with me.
Rain and t-boomers tomorrow may affect the goings-on at the White House - too bad so sad… ![]()
OK, on to morning surfage. Happy Saturday!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “I’m not going to fucking lie. This day is fucking fine, but I’d be happy with 15% more fucking clowns.”
Cookie I’m glad the document found a good home. My dad had a load of stuff that belonged to his father that he kept for years, my mum kept it after he died and only really looked through it when she was downsizing from her house to a flat. There was a beautiful album of wedding photographs that possibly belonged to my great grandfather, we have no idea who any of the people are but mum thought it was a gift from his employers. He was a drayman at the brewery in the town where they lived, and we donated it to the local museum who were really happy to have it.
I don’t see that as cold and unfeeling at all. The big decision is always hard but the reality is that you have to consider your pet’s quality of life first, and then look at what the vet’s treatment would cost in terms of trauma, as well as cost, for what you’re getting out of it. My biggest worry is always that I am prolonging my pet’s life for my sake, not for theirs.
JtC do NOT change your mind! Do we have to give you the collective Look and send swampy to give you a stern talking-to?
VanGo I’m glad to hear that the chat with your peer went well and you both agree about the outside designer. Sorry you didn’t get your fancy dinner though, maybe tonight instead?
flyboy I thought the pic of you with a bowtie looked great, I think looking like a professor is a great compliment. Although I have to say that none of the profs where I work dress like that!
Yesterday was a reasonably good day. We had some work going on in our new office which was a bit noisy but it means things have progressed a bit. I got some more reports and stuff done for the Board of Examiners meetings on Wednesday so I’m fairly well prepared for that. Extremely Difficult Student will have a degree calculated using a set of regulations that aren’t available in our view of the student record system so I’ve been given enhanced permissions so I can manually add the result. Oh, the power!
Came home and did evening chores, then made chicken curry for dinner and watched a film before heading to bed. I slept a bit later than usual before getting up to tend to the needs of cats and have a cup of tea. Been to the gym and waved goodbye to 667 calories on the pushme-pullyou whilst listening to an hour of an audiobook. Only another 18hrs to go…
I’m back home with a restorative cup of tea, and waiting for 'im indoors to finish faffing about with some computery things so I can ask him what he wants to do today. I don’t need anything in town so I have no great need to go out again, might just wander down to the local shops and get some limes so we can have margaritas tonight.
And a good Sattiday morning. Up fairly early to referee soccer this morning, which will be my major activity of the day. Assisting two young women (around 17-18 years old) who will be swapping out the center position on two U12 boys games, I’m there as an assistant ref and to make sure that they don’t get hassled by the coaches/parents. By the time I finish it should be in the mid-80’sF and that will be quite enough sweating for the day.
VanGo ,
You never know, might be a dead deer’s head…or a human one…

Well, I’m sure you have the time to decide…
Could it have been VanGo’s fool dog?
FCM, hope the boat behaves for the test run.
boo fae, you mean…you have a weekend where you’re not off to see multiple bands?
![]()
And have about an hour to browse before getting ready and heading off to the soccer fields. Take care all.
My niece recently uploaded all of my family photos to my online family tree on the Ancestry website. It’s something I wouldn’t have the patience to do, but she enjoys that sort of thing. So now they are available (and tagged) for any future descendents.
Well, I pressure washed the patio, and the sun came out so it wasn’t too cold- it has now vanished again and it’s raining.
It didn’t need doing so much to clean the slabs as to clear out all the mud which had accumulated in the cracks, which were then constantly filling with weeds. I’ve got most of the mud out, but it’s now sprayed all over me, the walls, the plants in the border, and on anything else that got in the way. Now I need to clear out the deep rooted weeds that didn’t come out, see if I can tap some of the slabs back into place that were apparently being pushed apart by the weeds and go buy some sand to fill the cracks up with. Hopefully it will sort the problem for a while, but I think I wasted my time by showering before doing it…
Good morning, all. I was kinda drifting in and out shortly before six, and I could hear a pupper playing and Spike, Squeaky, and Mrs Magill talking quietly in the next room. “Oh shit! Flags!” I said as I jumped out of bed. I was halfway dressed before I remembered there were no flags today. Spike had just come home from work, and Mrs Magill was making sure Squeaky was all set to take the ACT this morning. They had changed the location for his test. Somehow, it was my fault he hadn’t checked his email for the last month so he had to rush, so he could make the test up in Donelson, rather than in the more convenient Antioch.
Anyhow, laundry is started. Mrs Magill and I have tummies full of eggs, and I’m gonna start cleaning the bathroom in a bit before my shower. We’re going to Lowes today to pick up a new toilet for the hall bath. The toilet in there has started leaking form the tank, and the floor is ruined. I’ll need to take some pictures and see whether Amica will cover repairs.
I’ve got my MTTA meeting this evening. I’ll probably throw on some jeans and that new top I’d gotten last weekend. It’s funny: I’ve never really fretted about what to wear before. The things that will happen when you let your guard down.
In the meantime: Here’s a puppy playing with her new Pride Llama - you know it’s good when she’s upside down.:
(With bonus big toe.)
Good morning.
It’s 53F and sunny. It’ll be sunny all day, with a daytime high of 85F. That’s officially crept into “Too Hot for Me” temperatures. Ah, well. Could be worse.
Flyboy, looking good. I hope your birthday dinner is awesome.
JtC, I’m so relieved you’re going through with the surgery. I was back here doing this
, when I read your post about changing your mind. Yes, it’ll be boring and probably uncomfortable, BUT, it’ll be DONE! Also, lucky for you to see the frog. I miss them, yes, I do.
FCM, I hope the boat engine remains at the required temperature.
Doggio, I’m glad the power was restored, but sorry about the unexpected fridge cleaning.
Hubby is bitching about his pillow. I purchased a pillow for him last August because he wanted the same kind I used. For the past few days, he’s been griping that it’s lumpy and hard. It is a bit firm and made for side sleepers. When he first griped, I told him to go online and pick out a new one. The next day, when he griped again, I told him to go to the store and get a new one. Did he do either? Nope, it’s easier to gripe and keep me awake. So, now I’m grouchy because he’s being stupid. He spent months griping that I had stolen his pillow, so I purchased new ones for both of us. Cooling Gel Pillow. The same one I had been using for quite some time. I don’t like pillows with the usual fill, or even feathers, because they become lumpy and gross. I like the pillow I purchased (and he used to), because of the cooling gel pad. His head becomes very sweaty, so these are ideal for reducing that. He gets to fix this problem because I’m not going to buy another (different pillow) and hear him gripe about it.
Today’s plans call for a pedicure and a trip to the nursery. I planted everything that was in a nursery pot yesterday, and I’ve got some areas to fill in. I also need to redo one of my dinner plate dahlias because it’s not happy where it is. So, I’m going to get new soil, replant that dahlia, and move it to a different location.
Well, I should get on with it. It’s a Saturday, so lots of people will be out and about and I want to miss most of the weekend traffic.
Please take care of yourselves.
I must’ve slept with my mouth open or something, cuz I woke up with a blazing sore throat.
Sipped lotsa water then used some of that medicated throat spray, and already feel better, so I’m cautiously optimistic that it’s not some plague.
Now Monks is in a companiable, snuggly mood, and I didn’t get to sleep until around 5 a.m. so imma hopefully drift back off for a while.
Happy Saturday!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After getting sheveled, I’ll drop the trash at the dumpster (I came in from walking Nelson before bed and BAM! the trash stank to high heaven) and make a dollar sto’ run. After that, RDOS.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I remember reading about a psych experiment where they would show a person a box with a push button labeled “Do Not Push”. They would tell the person that if they pushed the button, an alarm would ring and they would get a nasty electric shock. Then they would make excuses and leave this person alone in a windowless room with nothing but a table, chair and box with the forbidden button.
After a while, the person would get so bored that they would push the button and get a shock while fire alarms were going off over their head.
Then they would leave the person alone with the box again. Every single person would push the button again if left there long enough.
I’ve been thinking about that experiment a lot recently…
OMG!!! That pillow has gone up ten bucks in six months. I know this because I finally got ruthless and replaced Hubs twenty year old, blood soaked pillow after his bout of skin cancer removal. It took twenty years (I think bed pillows should be replaced every three or four years) because that is the one he had and I didn’t know where to find a duplicate.
I hope your hubby figures out his pillow situation soon. Now that he can drive again, there is no reason for you to be involved with such a personal issue. Bed pillows are something that each person has to select themselves.
I was seriously thrilled with the frog. I’ve seen them in zoos and on TV, but never in the wild before. We used to sometimes see toads after a good rain but they always took off to do toad things instead of dressing up the yard.
What a cutie patootie!
We must have shared the storm, we have gotten almost an inch of rain in the last twenty-four hours. My lemon tree is SO happy now that it gets to sit out in the sun and rain. It is growing new leaves and even branches in bare spots. Maybe I’ll get a flower this year too!
You work in a bank. Ties work very well in that sort of professional environment, you might even good influence others to spiff up a little as well. I’m sure your PTB would approve.
Plus, you wear them very well ![]()
Thank you, I’ll be sure to have three ready to go next Wednesday. We don’t get edibles in WV, but can buy THC infused drinks.
I’ve never really been a fan of that form of consumption because I don’t have enough control over the high. When smoking, I am constantly monitoring my happy levels without getting so happy that I munch out and then sleep for hours. You can’t do that with edibles, there’s too much delay in the reaction.
Of course, sleeping will probably be the funnest thing I’ll be doing for a while, maybe I’ll go to Ohio and see what I can find. (two hour drive, NBD)
So, last night I realized that I have the threads for the class and I have the outline. I also have a picture of the finished section. I’m not a newby, I’ve been doing this shit for billions of years and don’t need to wait for the stitch guide and class discussion. So I got started last night and am confident that I will be able to get the first class finished before I have to put it down for a few months.
If this leads to tears, I will only have myself to blame.
I think the key to pulling off wearing a bow tie is to believe you’re pulling it off. (And if you’re not, then just don’t mind.
)
Breakfasted and puzzled. A balmy 68F at the moment. I’ll be making potato-leek soup later on today, or perhaps tomorrow.
Far be it from me to contradict Mrs. L.A. but I think you look great in a bow tie!
JtC Hopefully you can convince your frog to stick around and provide much entertainment. I had a tree frog one time in my garden. Never saw him but he was LOUD!
Taters thanks for the pillow recommendation. I’ve been thinking it’s time to replace my current pillow and will give that one a shot.
It’s a hot one here, getting up to 100F so indoor activities for today. I’m sure my mom will want to meet for lunch or just to run around, so I’ll text her in a bit once I’m ready to commit to leaving the house.
A few years ago I was hearing very loud screeches and thought it was an eagle outside up in a pine tree, as I was peering out the glass doors I heard it again at my feet, looked down and there was a tree frog squawking at me. Scooped him up put him outside. Laughed my ass off mistaking an itty bitty frog for a majestic eagle.
Can’t stop just now for a proper check-in, but in light of all the Pillow Talk, I thought I’d just share this link:
Best Bed Pillows According to Wirecutter Reviews
Hope everyone looking finds what they need! More later. ![]()
Hello, all! There were 253 posts when I started typing this and I wasn’t able to lurk at all this week, so I confess that I skipped ahead and have only read the past day’s content.
What an insanely busy work week it was. I’m still getting my arms around the project I had to start managing when one of my direct reports quit without notice (or notification) almost three weeks ago, but after several 10-hour days – and now that the move is done – I’m feeling better about my handle on it. Some of my “day job” tasks are necessarily slipping a bit, but I’m starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel…fingers crossed that it isn’t an oncoming train!
Speaking of work, a very cool thing happened on Tuesday: I became a plank owner! That doesn’t mean anything outside of the Navy, so here’s the Wikipedia explanation (in short, being a plank owner is an honor; and it isn’t common, especially for civilians). We’ve been standing up a new program since last spring, and it recently achieved its first major milestone: the customer handed out plank certificates to everyone who’d been significantly involved during the first six months. I was especially tickled to see that it was signed by VADM Wolfe, director of the entire organization/command we support, because his retirement was effective yesterday.
New-house-wise, the settling in continues. I have a handful of boxes left, all in the 3rd bedroom (which was the storage room in my old place), and I plan to tackle many – if not all – of them today. Yesterday morning the new couch was delivered, the locks were re-keyed, and someone came to align the garage-door-opener sensors and make some other adjustments. The remote both opens and closes the door now; I can actually park in my garage!
I took yesterday afternoon off work and started bagging up the packing paper and breaking down the empty boxes, and in the evening I made a big dent in my Lego unpacking/unwrapping/displaying. It feels like the place is starting to come together. I’m hoping that by the end of next weekend I’ll be able to start just living here vs constantly unpacking and organizing.
I’m also nearly free of the old place: the gutters were cleaned a week ago, I cancelled the trash service (the bins will be picked up on Wednesday), and the final cleaning is scheduled for Friday. Once that’s done and I have the key back from the cleaners, I’ll schedule my move-out inspection. There’s a new tenant already and he wants to move in on the 27th, so I might be able to save four days of rent and utility payments; the property manager needs to let me know when that date is confirmed.
To address the OP, my regular medical care includes a bariatric nurse practitioner, a primary care doc, an optometrist, and a dentist. I take three prescription meds (two pills and an injection) and several supplements related to my bariatric surgery, plus three “extras” to combat the GI issues caused by the injection. I don’t line up my meds, but I do have all of the bottles and containers on a lazy susan in my kitchen: on weekdays when I go to the office I fill that day’s pill containers every morning. How many I take depends on the day, because there’s one supplement I only take every M/W/F: on those days it’s 7 pills and 3 fiber gummies in the morning, a pill and a calcium chew at midday, another chew and 3 more gummies in the mid-afternoon, and four pills in the evening. Typing it out that sounds like a lot, but my surgery was almost five years ago now and I’m used to it. ![]()
Time to get to some replies, have lunch, and resume the unpacking. Although I knew/remembered that the top floor of a three-level townhouse would be challenging to keep cool in the summers, these 95-100°F days have been killers! Fans in every room make it bearable, but I’m glad it’s “only” 83 right now (with a forecasted high of just 87). I might move into the basement in August.
Anyway, if unpacking doesn’t completely undo this morning’s shower I might also go to The Container Store today.
My mom used to tell me how her (100% Italian, 2nd-generation) father would always say that she could marry whoever she wanted as long as he wasn’t black or Irish.
She and her brother both married Irish…and one of my cousins married a black man. Grandpa nearly boycotted that wedding, but several of us finally made him understand that if he skipped it – or acted badly – we’d never speak to him again. (He went, and actually behaved.)

I kind of get that, but overall I think they suit you. ![]()
