I still had sheet lines on my face when I got ready for work - man, I am pooped. Usually I would’ve taken a nap on my break but I decided to treak myself to the local inexpensive sushi place.
I’ve been back maybe once since they closed after a fire, and I do wanna support them.
How the hell a place that specializes in raw fish catches fire is a mystery to me still.
I didn’t have time to actually eat the rolls, but I have them safely here at home now, and I did at least get a chance to slurp down some restorative soup.
I had the same thought!
That’s a lotta dog.
Okay, I think I may crash for a few hours. The sushi will still be here when I wake back up, but I feel like I got run over by a bus.
Rats got some brown rice - they really need water but I can barely keep my eyes open. Sorry ratties, catch ya later.
Glad this prairie-dweller could help. It was a little closer than I’d like. Wish my cheering from afar had been more helpful for doggio’s Wolfpack. I suspect the same is in store for my Cornhuskers next Saturday. Sigh…
My meezer Moxie says “thanks, pleased don’t arrive without food or a willing lap. I’ll let you know if and when you can move”. Siamese colored clothes are suggested.
Sticky (and Bubba and Annie) approve of this message.
Huh.
Heh. I had to scroll back up and look! Those are from a set of canisters that belong to my mom. She’s a huge Mickey Mouse fan. In fact, the whole first floor bathroom is decorated in Mickey colors.
I’m up and a bit groggy this morning. I tried a new medicine and it didn’t appear to do anything other than make me extremely tired and drowsy yesterday and seems to be lingering today. Don’t think I’ll try it again.
Not sure what’s on the agenda for today. Maybe we’ll actually work on clearing some of the random stuff from the upstairs. Who knows? Happy Sunday, everyone!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 83 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. Afterwards we will have the big annual stewardship brunch. There will be waffles and omelets in my future! Plus mimosas. That will take care of today’s main need to feed. The rest of the day shall be spent in high RDOS inactivities.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification, which will include the trimmin’ of the beard, for deheathenization shall commence.
Monkey is making us both nutz with his cabin fever & pent-up energy. Let him chase the red dot for a while but it seems to have revved him up more instead of burning it off.
I think the Oracles predict off-and-on rain today. (There was a brief downpour yesterday, too.)
Really need to clear off my tables & the floor around my chair; the clutter is out of control.
All in all, a very “meh” day. Nothing’s really wrong; I’m just so damn tired.
0630: dogbutler: < opens eye, sees Spot’s undercarcass gliding over head like the Star Destroyer at the beginning of Star Wars > dogbutler: “Dude, why?”
Spot: “Brrt!”
So I’m up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning, followed by afternoon sloth and pro handegg.
Spot is partial to lunch meats. He even made up a song for lunch meat time.
Last night was one of those wake-every-hour-for-no-apparent-reason nights. Total amount of sleep would have been great, had it not been so broken up.
I need to run to Food Lion today as we’re almost out of half-and-half (for MIL’s coffee and cocoa.) I may also bake some punkin pies. That’s as far as my planning has gone. I’ll probably fill out my ballot, tho I need to research the school board candidates. I saw a sign (can’t recall the name) that said “Education, not Indoctrination” and I have to be sure to vote against that idiot.
I never understood voting for judges and sheriffs - seems to me, those are civil servant jobs and should be handled in that way. Is it tradition or is there a reason? I don’t know diddly about any of the judges and, frankly, I don’t know what makes a judge good or bad at their job since the intricacies of the law generally escape me. But I’ll see what Google tells me about the 3 on my ballot and go from there.
I’ve noticed Ziva has been out and about much more since Higgs is gone. She still won’t go to anyone but me, but she’s spending less time under the bed. Maybe she’ll get friendly with the other residents? Hah - I made a joke!
Apparently I can finish changing the sheets and making the bed once I’ve bested the cat in single combat.(once he’s come out from under the fitted sheet.)
It’s 49F and partly cloudy. Today, there will be a mixture of clouds and sun, with a high temperature of 73F. Two atmospheric rivers move in starting tomorrow; the first will be light, but the second will be a little heavier.
FCM, I’m sorry to hear the healthcare experience for SiL was so bad. I hope the outpatient experience is better.
When I look at Leonbergers, all I can think of is, “Look at all that hair!” I’ve encountered a few, and they’ve been gentle giants, but I can’t imagine getting one up into a bathtub or in my Jeep when it gets old and can no longer jump.
I’m going to finish the rest of the laundry today, and I might also use the steam cleaner to clean my WFH office.
VanGo, my phone is just about 5.5 years old, and the battery life is pretty sucktastic. I am now faced with having to get a new phone, and it sucks because I liked it. It took fantastic pictures and never gave me any problems until these last couple of months. I have the OnePlus 7Pro. What makes the issue more frustrating is that OnePlus will no longer sell phones through our carriers, so if I want another one, I’ll need to buy an unlocked phone through Amazon or BestBuy. I’ve got to decide very soon because I’m sure this phone is close to not charging. I need a reliable phone with all the time I spend on the road. I wish you luck.
I bought Maisie some steps to help her get on the bed, and they arrived Friday night. I put them together and tried to get her to use them, but Buster was kind of in the way and super excited. I’ll have to try again today but without Buster in the room. Maisie wasn’t a fan of the bed stairs, and I think it’s because they’re not as broad across the stairs in the house. It’ll just take some training.
I’ll need to head out either today or tomorrow and purchase more dog food for the pups too.
I’m just about done with my coffee, so this means I need to start my day.
Morning all. Up about 6:30am and all that exercising must be paying off, feeling pretty good and alert (because America needs it’s lerts). Have procured the Sunday Times and in about 3.5 hours will head off to the Olive Garden for the once-every-two-months Pasta Pigout, then of course some more gym time as penance. After that some tackleball and general slothage. It’s 61F heading to 87F so maybe the repaired AC will get some work in.
red, did change the batteries, but while the Direct TV box and soundbar come on, the TV doesn’t. Will check the controls on the TV and see if I accidentally did something silly. As for the phone, I’ll google around some, but it may be beyond my modest cellphone capacities.
shoe, hope the rest is restful.
I trust you were commenting on a certain tackleball game and not my own modest soccer refereeing (which was pretty good yesterday, if I do say so myself (and I do)).
Sticky Buns, thanks for the explanation, and if the medicine isn’t helping, I concur to give it a pass.
Happy Vergering swampy. And happy brunching!!!
FCM, you are a smart and responsible voter; which makes you a rarity in the Nation.
Taters, good luck with Masie and the stairs (sounds like the title of a book for 3-4 year olds…).
OK, onward to the Sunday Morning internettin’. Take care all.
In Nebraska the Bar Association puts out a voter guide when judges are up for retention. Lawyers rate judges on things like impartiality, judicial temperament, communication, fairness of sentences, etc. It’s rare that they don’t suggest retention but it does happen. I’ll send you a FB screenshot of my Nebraska Bar Association guide. There’s one clinker at the very top. Most judges are rated near 100%, this one is at only 35%-hopefully they will be voted out in November. Of course that judge is in my district, not that I’m planning to be standing in front of her for her rudeness and excessive sentences any time soon.
Perhaps the MerryLande Bar Association does something similar?
Back from Food Lion. Can someone explain Fat Free Half-and-Half? Isn’t it half milk and half cream? So without the fat, what’s left - skim milk? Sadly, I had to buy it because it’s all they had and I used the last of hers this morning’s coffee.
I found the “Education not Indoctrination” and voted for her opponent, who’s been on the board a few years. I also voted for the 21-y/o candidate, figuring he’s close enough to school age to have some pretty good and current ideas. My ballot is signed and sealed and ready to be dropped in the box, which I could have done when I went to Food Lion, except I forgot, dammit.
Just finished a major rollsuck, including moving Higgs’ crate and sucking up the hair between the crate and the wall. Made me a little sad. Oddly enough, one of the biggest changes with Higgs and Taz gone involves doors. Taz would bolt for the light if someone left an outside door open. Then he’d run abot 20 feet, crouch down, and yowl to be rescued… Higgs was OK with outside doors, but if you left the basement door ajar, he’d push thru and nosh on the kitteh tootsie rolls. But that’s no longer an issue. It’s a strange adjustment.
FCD has taken his mother to church. I have the house to myself for about an hour longer. What to do, what to do??
Nellie. Illinois is kinda boring, but it’s blue and stable. And has me. We would welcome you.
Huzzah huzzah! Ursala Kitteh had her last pill this morning! I can tell she is feeling better. She is playing with String Dos, not drinking as much water, and not in her litter box every 30 minutes. We return to the vee e tee on Wednesday for a check up.
I just showed it to my wife. She said one of her patients watches Trailer Park Boys. We’ve never seen it. (I think it’s on Netflix, which we don’t have.)
That’s one of the reasons that I have a small dog at this point. Yes, I loved my big doggies, love my big neighbor doggies, but one that I can lift into the car in the case of a veterinary emergency is what is practical. My goddog’s dad has gone from Bassets to beagles for the same reason.
Have you cleaned out the charging port? It may not be the issue or it may not be a long term fix, but a little bit of pocket fuzz / purse dirt can cause a less than optimum connection. Unfortunately, the OnePlus is one of those models that we just send for disposal when we have them returned, as they are not economical to refurbish.
Skim milk with a bunch of HFC and / or sugar.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and KP done. Now for Sunday chores. Joy!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/49f, and cloudy. Weather app says “You may feel like walking around your fucking yard naked. Your elderly neighbour, however, wishes you fucking wouldn’t.” Nope, never had that urge and hopefully never will!
flyboy I hope you made the most of your unsupervised time!
WetOne I’m glad the pills are done now, hope they had the desired effect and she gets a clean bill of health next week.
Moooom keeping a couple of Higgs’ toys for FCD is a good idea, they will remind him of the fun times and the fact that yes, the dog did trust him, and trusted him to do the right thing too.
Taters I hope you have managed to get over such an icky dream, I would definitely have felt very unsettled about it. Let’s hope it means nothing, and you can replace it with lots of good things to dream about.
*metalmouse hope you can get the tv fixed easily - did you just turn it off manually by accident?
shoe lovely story, and I am sure the extra bit of pizza was very welcome too.
Sticky Buns hope you feel better as the day goes on!
nellie it does sound like your apartment people want to get everyone out, but for a building that’s only a few years old, still doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Good luck with the search for a new place
I didn’t get time to post here yesterday, I thought I might have managed it first thing but I was too busy trying to get everything done and get us out of the house for another exciting weekend. This time we went on a little adventure to the Welsh valleys We needed to have ourselves up, sheveled and fed, feline tums and bums done, and be out of the house by 9.30am. On a Saturday!! We were only about 15mins behind schedule when we left, stopped at a cash machine at the petrol station round the corner from home, then set off on our 2.5-3hr drive to Pontypool. The purpose was a day-long music festival so we needed to be there as early as we could.
It’s a little event called Sharkfest - organised by my friends Sharon and Mark, hence the Shark bit! Nothing to do with sharks at all although they have become a bit of a theme. They did the very first one as their wedding reception five years ago and liked the idea so much, they decided to do it again…and agin…so this event was Sharkfest 5. There’s already a date for Sharkfest 6, and a list of bands they want to invite.
Anyway, we managed to get to our hotel just after midday but weren’t able to check-in until 2pm so we had a quick change of clothes in the hotel toilets, and made it out in time for the shuttle bus Mark had organised from the only two hotels in the area. The venue is a club called The Patriot, in the small town of Crumlin, not to be confused with the other Irish Crumlin. Had a fabulous day, watched most of the bands (sat outside for a bit, nattering to people), met up with friends, met new people and had a blast.
Eventually the shuttle bus took us back to the hotel, and we met up with a bunch of folks in the morning for brunch. Another lively event, discussion of the behaviour of bands who have been fantastic, and a couple of bands who will never be asked to another Sharkfest event ever…and now we are home with cups of tea and sulky cats
Oddly enough, the cancer thing isn’t what disturbed me. It was the venue and how they determined I had cancer. Looking back on it, I think the reason I dreamed about it is that I was told on Friday that the spouse of an employee in my organization has cancer. They just found it, and it’s probably terminal.

<announcer voice> We interrupt autumn in the DC area to bring you today’s expected high of 82°F with plenty of sunshine. We’ll get back to fall tomorrow, though, and it should continue for the rest of the month. </announcer voice>
Friday night I put together the Lego jack-o’-lantern. It took almost exactly an hour (my estimate was right on). I thought I’d opt for the “scary” face, but I decided to go for the happy pumpkin. Here’s a photo with me pressing the stem to make it light up:
It’s pretty freakin’ cute, and is currently in the living room – but I’ll move it to this room tomorrow, so I can see it while I’m working. When it was done, I decided that after Halloween I’ll take it apart and put the pieces in a Ziploc bag and build it again next October (maybe with the scary face next time).
…and it occurred to me that’s what I should have done with last year’s holiday sets, instead of keeping them assembled and on shelves/in boxes. I’ll bag them this year. I have a Christmas tree and Santa’s sleigh from last year, and will also have two new “candle” decorations (which I bought last month but won’t put together until shortly before Thanksgiving).
Yesterday I woke up a good hour later than usual: I guess I needed the sleep, but it kind of threw me off for the rest of the morning! Heh. I paid some bills and caught up on some emails, and almost posted here but (luckily) realized that I needed to get dressed and head to my 12pm personal training session so I discarded the draft. After the gym I stopped at Safeway (for bananas, etc.), then after I put the groceries away I took Bailey for a walk around the block. When we got home I took a shower, and finally ate some lunch. Then I started working on the Statue of Liberty, and alternated building that with being a slug on the couch for the rest of the day/night. I got through 3/5 of the bags; I’ll definitely finish it today.
In other news, after 1 week the increased predisone dosage seems to be helping Bailey! Her meal eating is still a bit erratic, but so far she’s eaten the crushed 1mg pill powder in a soft treat each morning. Starting today she’ll also get 1mg in the evenings. But yesterday’s walk around the block knocked her out: she slept for ~16 hours straight! She didn’t even wake up to pee – not even in the middle of the night/before I woke up! That was a first, and especially weird given the additional prednisone (which increases thirst/hunger…and, therefore, also output). She actually scared the crap out of me at bedtime: she was sleeping so soundly that her chest was barely moving, there was no reaction to my voice, and I had a moment of “oh shit” before I finally saw some breathing. Then she moved from one spot to another, but didn’t want to go outside despite my best cajoling. Normally, if she’s up around my bedtime she needs to go out and will also eat a little then. She’s totally fine today, though, enjoying the open windows/raised storm door panel and barking at the neighborhood, and even had the zoomies this morning (after 16 hours of sleep I’m not surprised!). Crazy mutt.
Today’s plans include eating lunch on the couch, then finishing Lady Liberty, then more couch time. There’s no baseball that I care about today*, so I expect to watch at least an entire season of The Good Fight.
*The National League championship series starts today, but my uncle’s Padres aren’t in it (having lost their division championship) and I don’t give a crap about the Mets/Dodgers. The American League championship series – Yankees/Guardians – starts tomorrow. A Yankees/Mets World Series could be fun, but we’ll see.
I am a leaf on the wind…
Wow! My rent increase this year was 5%, and that was the most I’ve had in the 10 years I’ve lived here. I’d have been pretty grumpy if my property manager had asked for 7%.
For some reason, that made me laugh way more than it should have.
I had mice a few years ago, and called Orkin. They wouldn’t come out unless I agreed to start regular service: that was annoying, but I didn’t want to have to worry about mice (and figured a reduction in other indoor critters couldn’t hurt) so I signed up. At some point the service went from quarterly to every-other-month, but I haven’t had any mice since () so I’m willing to keep paying.
It really did! I like those colors/that pattern quite a bit!
Bailey says “woof!” (She approves, even though she’s afraid of bears. I tried to explain, but…dog.)
Good luck!
Bailey wouldn’t use any of the steps/ramps I’ve tried over the years. She can still get up on the bed when she has the zoomies, but about a year ago she stopped being comfortable on the couch even if I helped her up there. So, I’ve had to accept that my couch buddy isn’t my couch buddy anymore. For ~15 years that was how/when we spent the most quality time together, but we seem to have adjusted.
That’s how my Smokey was! She was a 100% indoor cat and had been declawed (we didn’t know any better back then), so whenever the door was open I was always super alert for escape attempts, but luckily the few times she got out she didn’t go far before completely freaking out. Heh.
