Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. My arm feels better this mornin’, but the rest of me has the post stabbin’ ick. I know this is normal for me the day after so today will definitely be a day to loll around. OYKW is feelin’ it as well. Matter of fact he got up, had some Diet Poopsie and then went back to bed. I’ll no doubt join him in a bit.
I promise to go back, read, and be more responsive later on. Right now, my brain won’t brain enough for me to do that.
It’s 55F and partly cloudy. Early morning showers will occur, and cloudy afternoon skies will accompany a high temperature of 69F.
Both NOAA and the Farmers Almanac are calling for above-average precipitation and below-average temperatures. This forecast takes into account the formation of a La Nina out in the Pacific. We may have “snow events” in November and January. I’ll take a wait-and-see attitude. I think it’s just going to be wet.
I had a busy day at the office, rushing from one “do-now” task to the next, but I got them done.
I am working from home for the rest of the week, which makes the doggos happy.
J-Bats, I’m glad you got your living situation sorted. Bob looks very comfortable!
Metal Mouse, I’m sorry about more home expenses.
Shoe, sending you
Sticky Buns, I hope you find the proper medical care soon and that you find a position that truly works for you.
My son came up over the weekend, and we enjoyed his visit. My husband and son got to hang out and play games together, the pups got to play with “their boy,” and my son got a chance to unwind and relax. We all went out to eat breakfast together late Sunday morning, and it was pretty good.
Not much else going on. Work is work; I am stupidly busy, and that’s about it.
Time for more coffee and then I can finish loading the dishwasher and run it.
With the heating of the planet, winter isn’t much around here anymore. We generally get 5 to 10 days of deep winter with frigid temperatures. The rest of winter is mostly rain and temps in the mid thirties to mid forties. Chicagoland is becoming Seattle. LOL
But, of course, none of us will be like that as we mosey into our golden years, right? We shall all be delightful company!
Watching the decline is sheer hell. Last night, MIL had 2 1/2 pairs of gloves she dug out from somewhere. Since one glove is misplaced, she decided FCD needs to take her shopping for gloves. Because 2 pairs aren’t enough for the 15-20 seconds she might be outside this coming winter. We can only hope she forgets when she gets up today.
In some ways, it’s as bad as having a toddler in the house - you hear a loud noise and you go running. With a toddler, something has been pulled over. With an elder, it’s likely a fall. Or something pulled over.
Since we haul our own trash and recycling every few weeks, my only experience with curb-side pick-up is the gawd-awful sound of the trucks in the dark of the morning, or seeing the rolly-bins and the end of driveways. I’m truly amazed at how much trash some people generate in a week. Or I just have trashy neighbors…
When I let Higgs out shortly after 7, it was 50°. We might see 70 today, maybe. All week, we’re promised lows in the 40s and highs in upper 60s/lower 70s. But sun, so there’s that.
No clue what’s on my agenda today - I should mow the ditch and whack some weeds. There’s a dishwasher to empty and a dining table to de-leaf. Plus I need to find a table cloth and some placemats so I can put the room back in order again. No real plans beyond that. Well, except shower and dress.
I’ve gotten a Halloween reprieve. Daughter is going to take the kids door-to-door with a friend and her kids so she doesn’t need my help. Huzzah! I’ll get pics from her, so I won’t miss out on all the fun. And, of course, we’ll keep our house dark so no beggars here.
Morning all. Up early and pilled myself, it in the 50’sF this morning so sleep without AC was not a problem and only due to get to 80F today, so I guess if the system had to break this was the best time for it, gets to take the cool season off (until next April/May). Nothing much on the agenda, might do a little cleaning and get over to the gym since I missed it yesterday, and the U10’s need coaching this evening, so at least I’ll be moderately active.
Cupcakes, yeah, the ‘gun’. When I worked for the DoD and was going overseas to work I had to get a bunch of shots, so of course the US Army hospital just gave me all of them at the same time, I hurt like hell for days.
boo fae, looks like another clear day here, there is no rain and very little cloud cover forecast for the next week here, if you ever think of moving… Hope you feel better soon.
Sticky Buns, I do hope everything works out, even if it is not promising at the moment.
Feel better soon, swampy.
Taters, I was retired when the 'WFH" became popular, don’t know how it would have worked out for me, but kinda sorry I missed it. And glad son could relax and help you and husband-unit do the same.
{{FCM}}.
And time to break fast and get on with the day. Have a good 2sDay all.
I have no advice, but lots of sympathy. Vent as needed.
That sounds like an extractor, I think they are probably OK? Maybe? I don’t know for sure but I think it is the heat that kills the elastic.
No swimming for me today. If I can’t see the forest for the fog, I’m not driving. I need to change up my routine and get used to going in the afternoon to avoid weather issues.
Hubs was playing Diablo when I got up. I’m pretty sure it didn’t come up before he went to bed last night because I felt him get up several times during the night. He was gone long enough for me to fall back to sleep which means he didn’t just use the toilet.
Oh no, and now the power just went out. The drama will be never ending.
Things that don’t goin the dryer: bras. swimming suits. Nylon underpants. Riding breeches. Expensive sweaters/tops/blouses. UnderArmor. SmartWool socks. My cat.
Speaking of my cat, pill day 4 was easy. Got her when she was sleeping.
I checked the local paper, it was a scheduled outage so they could replace some equipment. It was scheduled to last 15 minutes but really was about half that. He took that time to paw around in my weed drawer and take one of my vapes with him so maybe that will settle him down a little.
The combination of exercise and the double vax yesterday has left us feeling fairly crappy this morning. The wife had breakfast and went right back to bed, but I’m hanging in there despite not sleeping all that well. Looks to be a dull day, but that’s okay by me.
Only 43F this morning! Management claims that they turned on the heat in the building a couple of days ago, but it ain’t so. Have to go down and find out the straight dope on it.
You want some of the many, many things my mother has knitted for me?
I got a sweater that would probably fit … anyone, really, the thing is basically a blanket with sleeves and buttons.
I did a double-take, then LOL’d.
So(u) much funny here.
Even the dumbest goldfish can be taught.
Thanks for the everyone. I just went back and re-read the whole exchange with my dad (“was I the asshole?” sometimes … yup. This time … nope.) and am still astonished by how fast the whole thing went sideways.
… and then I remembered sitting there awkwardly a couple days ago while my dad blew up at my mom over the most minor shit imaginable, and … I feel so bad for her.
She’s trapped in this.
And then a tiny part of me remembers the hell she put me through, years ago, and then instead of feeling vindicated, I feel worse.
Revenge doesn’t taste nearly as good as I thought it would.
I know it makes sense to have a dedicated place for your weed, but for some reason, this cracked me up! Junk drawer, underwear drawer, weed drawer…
I went to the Board of Elections to drop FCD’s ballot in the big box, then I went inside to get my ballot replaced. The procedure is to use a big sharpie to draw a line thru all the choice dots, then write SPOILED across the ballot. And while I was doing that, the nice lady got me a new one. So yay!
Then I ran to Food Lion for some frozen veggies, and now I’m home. FCD left before I got back to take is mom to Penney’s for gloves. Glad I dodged that bullet. She loves to shop. I hate to shop. My poor sweetie has to deal with it.
Meanwhile, I got a couple of hunks of poke loin that were on sale. I will cut them up into some roasts and some chops. Then I’ll go out and whack some weeds since the battery is charged. Then, who knows…
Well, they had the parts in stock so the HVAC folks are back out and puttering around the HVAC unit and my attic space, so hopefully I’ll have a fully functioning system shortly. At least they are prompt, they call ahead for clearance, and are polite, so guess it’ll work out for the best. But this is the third big bill for HVAC work in the past three years, so I hope everything will work as planned for the near future. And the temperature is only 71F outside, so it’s hardly needed…
Still hope to make it to the gym this afternoon, it sounds like he’s about done.
JtC, so far the extractor and the drier haven’t damaged my suits that I can tell (I have three swimsuits for reasons and usually use them all, so they only get wet and dried once a week).
Cookie, stay warm. Haven’t gotten my winter stuff (which amounts to a large collection of sweatpants and sweatshirts) out yet, but the time is coming.
It never does. Only the dreams are sweet. Reality often isn’t, I’m sad to say. But we’re here for you, so there is that.
FCM, on taking MIL shopping, does she have a cart or some type of wheeled device, I can’t imagine her walking to the store, even from the disabled parking spots.
OK, need to go out and look intelligent while the guy is working. Take care all.
Wheelchair. It’s a super-light-weight model that folds easily to go in the car. No way could she walk while shopping - not even leaning on a cart.
BTW, the extractors are just like a washing machine spin cycle, only lots faster. Unless part of your suit gets caught in the mechanism, it won’t cause any damage.
I just finished hacking and vacu-packing some poke. I got 2 roasts - about 1.25# each - one plain, one with our favorite dry rub. Also 8 “chops” - half with BBQ sauce, half with the rub, all bagged for sous vide. I’m about to head out and whack some weeds. Go me!!!
Thanks, but we have a small Vornado floor heater that does a surprisingly good job of keeping the chill off. I mainly want them to turn it on because I’m worn out trying to tell my wife how the heating/cooling system works here. This is one of the many things that she can’t seem to retain in her short-term memory. I try to be patient with it.
And weeds in the back yard have been whacked. I totally drained one battery and probably half-drained the next. It now looks much neater out there.
The batteries work in the hedge clippers - that’s the next task. I’m thinking, tho, I’ll wait till the leaves all fall so I’m just trimming the bare vines of the wisteria. Whatever I decide, I’m done for today.
I just got dinner in the crock pot and I’m about to wash all of the cookie sheets that got dirty during my baking spree earlier this week. After that, the repair guy shows up. Then if I’m lucky, I might get a nap. Or if I’m incredibly responsible, I might take the signs that I made to the art market at the mall to add to my display. I’m not sure I can be trusted to be that responsible today, though.
I did officially resign from that position. If it was eligible for PSLF, I might have tried to stick it out, but it’s not worth the stress that it would bring (and already has brought about) otherwise. I know that I did the right thing, but I still feel like a flake. I did request another disability packet in order to file again. Ok, off to wash the dishes!
Catmom, RN just left to visit her patients. Abbey decided to walk all over my laptop and belly and demanded – demanded – an extraordinary amount of pats and scritches. We went out into the catio, and she went to the back gate and started making those ‘No, no, no!’ sounds. I’ve never heard her do that before. I didn’t see any stranger cats or other ani-mules in the yard. She wanted to go back inside, but I picked her up to put her on my lap and assure her everything was OK. Then she started retching. She got down onto the ottoman and horked up whatever food she’d been eating. Now she’s OK.

I slept much better last night*: I feel fine today, but I’m still completely unmotivated work-wise. I need to buckle down on some proposal stuff at some point this afternoon, but not right now. I just ate the first half of my lunch (a banana and a grilled cheese; the other half will be Pringles and cookies), so this is a good MMP time.
*Even though the Yankees lost. I’m grateful that Max/B-R Sports is live-streaming TBS’s broadcasts of the ALDS, so I can watch the games without cable!
It’s sunny, breezy, and downright chilly today! Yay! I did turn the heat on last night, but I only set the thermostat to 69°F. It was a brisk 50 when I took Bailey outside the first time this morning, and currently it’s 64 with an expected high of only 70. The storm door’s bottom pane is open just a few inches (to the first “slot”), but no other windows are open today. It’s making it a little cool in the house, but not too cold and Bailey’s enjoying it between naps so I’ll keep it open. Now that it’s past midday the sun will soon be facing the side/front of the house, which will warm things up a bit.
Yesterday I officially quit my personal training sessions. I looked at the agreement and sent an email to the proper POCs with the proper language, and got confirmation that this month’s fee will be the last one I pay (there’s always one more full term after the notification): my very last session will be on/around 11/23. On Saturday, when I told my trainer what I’d decided he started spouting a couple different kinds of BS – and said that he’d contact me if he didn’t see me signed up for any classes. I told him frankly that I’d quit the gym immediately if he ever did such a thing. He seemed hurt/offended when I said that I didn’t need or want a babysitter. Between that and the BS I’m juuuust annoyed enough to want to stop training with him now, but I’ll stick it out for ~7 more weeks and get whatever I can out of the remaining sessions. The next one is this evening.
That’s exactly what I thought when I read the description!
Ugh.
I take mostly after my father, too: he and I have similar interests and personalities, while my brother had much more in common with our mom. I’m constantly aware of it and on the lookout, because Dad can often be a complete ass. Not due to his age or any mental decline, though; he’s always been an ass. I still remember the moment in a college psych class when I realized that I didn’t have to worry about turning into my mother, I had to worry about turning into my father. Over the past 50+ years I’ve learned how to get along with/not rely on him (the latter being a particularly slow lesson), and a 2006 trip taught me not to travel with him as an adult. These days we do OK.
Oh man, I so did not need to try to imagine you catheterizing JtC’s husband…
LOL!!
I’m pretty sure that I’ll be dark this year, too. There are tons of kids in my neighborhood and I actually enjoy seeing all of the trick-or-treaters, so sometimes I do the whole setup. But all of the knocking freaks Bailey out a little, and because there are so many kids I always wind up buying way too much candy – and I can’t eat most of it/don’t want any of it in my house. So, I think I’ll skip it this year.
(Yes, I know there are ways to donate/get rid of extra candy; no, I’m not interested in the effort required for any of them ).
Yep. She came in, made a circuit of the house, and made her normal ‘I’m looking out the window’ meows. Then she was back up on my lap, interrupting my work some more. After a few minutes, she got down and then went back outside.
