(Old) When Mom's Away...A Coasterless MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 74 and rainy off and on for the day. Fine by me if it rains all day as we have nowhere we need or want to be. High sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ are definitely on the agenda for the day. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit just cause.

MOOOOOOM glad you got to see penguins and stuff. It’s fun to see wildlife you don’t see every day.

Sari hope you can get your meds soonest. Can’t believe all you’ve been through just to get a 'script refilled!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Awake and sick of these weird dreams.
Its foggy again. Gotta get some water to avoid another uti. Tired of them also.
Sorry to sound down but I am.

Mornin’ all. About an hour after sunrise here. Presently 76/24 on the way to 81/27 with high cirrus and a few puffies. I’m sitting outside at a little cafe near my old condo finishin’ my caffinatin’ after some nice eggs benedict. Next stop from here is my nearby dentist for periodic cleaning.

I read everything, can’t make detailed comments. Good luck to all, and I’m glad FCM is enjoying good weather. The one cruise late first wife and I took about 25 years ago to Alaska was pretty well destroyed by adverse weather.

Things are going smoothly here. My mental / emotional state is waaay up. I’ve done more productive and self-affirming stuff in the last 3 days than in the last 4 weeks.

Had a real 21st century experience yesterday. Pre-marriage Her Ladyship had her checking and savings accounts and I had mine. When we got married I added her to mine, making those accounts and the money in them joint. She did not reciprocate; not then and not since. Of course that jointness needs to be unwound officially, so I’m just going to let that money sit there until we settle the whole property thing, and meanwhile open a fresh checking account for my use. Sounds simple.

Stop by the bank. 6 empty cubicles where customer service reps ought to be. 1 cubicle has a rep, but with a customer in there already. 3 other customers milling around, evidently waiting for that same rep. Uggh. It’s never easy. Sigh. There is a teller and nobody waiting for them. I ask that person about my need and could he make an appointment for me to see the customer service person. He says “Just use the app or website; you’re an existing customer and you can open a new account with a couple clicks”. Color me surprised but happy.

Hop in the car and off to my next appointment. At a traffic light I use my brokerage’s app on my phone to order the sale of a bit of mutual funds to create some free cash. At the next traffic light I use the bank’s app on my phone to open a checking account. He was right, it was about 6 clicks. At the next trafic light I go back to the brokerage app and yep, the sell order completed and the resulting loose cash is sitting there ready to move. At the next traffic light I order an ACH transfer from the brokerage to the bank. Because we’d already set that connection up to replace my paychecks when those stopped, the bank knew about the brokerage account already; I just needed to make sure the incoming money went into my new bank account. So 4 traffic lights, some pecking at a phone and I’m set with spending money for a month or 2. ACHs are overnight, and sure enough, the money’s in place when I wake up.

The 21st Century is kinda cool sometimes. Of course it would have sucked hard if I’d really needed to meet with that overworked bank clerk.

I also now have a PO box and, ref JtC, an agreement in principle to rent a room from a friend of a friend I’ve had drinks with a few times over the years. He’s a little older than I am, lives alone, has a similar marital history, and used intense travel therapy to recover from his last wife. So a kindred sprit. His house is only a couple miles from my current apartment, so other than needing to drive everywhere instead of walk, I can keep all my old habits until I choose to change them.

He has family visiting right now, so he’s not quite ready for me, and I did not yet have a way to pay him, so we’re just short of a handshake and a payment expected early next week.

Gotto go get teeth cleaned.

Cheers all!! And thanks for listening.

Morning all. The rain has gone for now but is due to resume tonight and tomorrow, so a wet weekend is probably in store. Need to do a little shopping (Kroger give 4X points towards gas discounts on Friday with the necessary info on the card) and banking, otherwise swimming is the only thing on the agenda.

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday; I had unplugged/unhooked my TV so it could be moved around when the carpet people came, but when I hooked it back up I had picture but no sound. Did all the restarts and updates but it just wouldn’t work. Until I went behind the set and plugged the soundbar back in, it had come out while being move. When you eliminate everything else, what remains, however unlikely, is the cause (paraphrasing Sherlock there). So TV us working fine. Brain is still a work in progress.

Pilot, yeah, things with banks can be rather easy if you already have an account. Sounds like you are making progress.

Coppertone, drink water. As for the dreams, I can’t help, just see what you can do to improve your mood.

Well, once you get too far from land it simply shows you as “Passenger Vessel” and there are quite a few out there right now. Enjoy the lectures and remember I was in one of those smaller ships you saw in Ushuaia in the same seas last year. Wonder if there is a rush on the Doctor for Dramamine…

nellie, hope the tooth problem settles down with the anitbiotics.

shoe, I think (could be wrong) that Sari missed a letter, not a noun. 'Bug" instead of
“Big”.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Reasonable heaving again. We had a hipster doing the bags. When he wandered away, Shaggy was whining about his work ethic. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Also, I almost whacked Shaggy in the head with a bag. I wonder if…hold on
STOP EATING PAPAL ENCYCLICALS YOU FURRY ANTICHRIST!
< Ahem >
if percussive maintainable works on mouth breathers?
Laundry is in the dryer, heading out to Teeter for tonight’s fish before napping.

Coppertone, hydration is always good. Bad weird or surreal weird dreams?

Glad you have things rolling, pilot

I wish they were surreal. Just bad situations, sometimes my parents are there, its never a dream where I’ve won the lottery or am on a Florida beach.
Yes, water. But its not tasty, it must be drunk with a food, and then my waist will expand. Its at 29 and a half right now.

Cloth diapers are awesome, but if you are dependent upon using a laundromat or complex laundry room, very impractical.

I don’t know how many drive thru workers have asked to pet Nelson. He wouldn’t bite them, but it makes you wonder about their hand sanitation. I usually tell them that he would be OK with it, but they will need to wash up immediately after. A lot of them do a quick headsmack because they hadn’t considered that aspect. I’m like you, I would be cautious with dogs at the window, even the ones that look cute, small and friendly.

I’m sorry about the state of your marriage pilot.

I’ll echo others in suggesting a vision check when you get home Mooooom.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, towels / sheets in the dryer, jeans in the wash and everything else on deck. Today will be the usual Friday chores. It looks like things are getting back to normal around here (knock wood).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The Drake Passage is amazingly calm, much to FCD’s dismay. Tomorrow around 5am, we should be crossing the 60th parallel, and around 10 or so, we’ll cruise by the A23a iceberg - look it up, it’s really amazing!

Meanwhile, it’s a clear, sunshiny day, temps mid-40s, winds forecast to pick up later. Perfect cruising day! Lunch is almost done, then we’re going to an iceberg lecture. We’s gettin’ SMRT!!

:grin::grin::grin:

It sounds as if you are having a wonderful trip. I’ve never been on a cruise, but going alone might be not as much fun.

I’m making more cookies today, and tonight there is a big trivia game at the library. It’s held once a quarter and has been going on for years. I remember the night Kate and William got married they had a category about royals and I helped the team ace all ten questions.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 44F and cloudy this morning. Temps will rise to 52F, and rain will move in this afternoon. Additionally, we’re slated for another atmospheric river, AKA Pineapple Express which brings unseasonably warm temps, rising snow levels, lots of rain, and flooding. We’ll see highs in the low 60s at one point.

FCM, as so many have stated, definitely talk to the doc about the double-vision.

As to the office space that is not being used, it’s really super complicated. There are many moving parts; ensuring clients have convenient representation, is just one of them. Politics, of course, play a part, as do finances. Many other nuances. On the surface, it seems so easy, but there are many, many layers to this onion.

pilot, I’m glad you’re in a little bit better headspace. Take care.

I want to reiterate something: my boss is a pretty good guy. He actually wants to help; I’m annoyed because it’s not my timeline, is all. He has a lot on his plate too. What I need is for the rest of the program directors to get their collective shit together and start working on their files. I am not sure what they are thinking, but I’m sick of the excuses. One of the PDs has made a real start in trying to get his files ready and has already made two or three trips to start working on it.

I had to take Maisie to the emergency vet yesterday. I was pretty worried about her due to the symptoms she was showing. I spent $950.00 to find out she definitely had a foreign object in her GI tract, but it was small enough for her to pass on her own. She wasn’t eating AT ALL, wasn’t drinking, and her poo was pure liquid. She was lethargic. Other than vomiting, those are some symptoms of parvo. I’m glad it was relatively nothing, and she is on anti-diarrheal meds for a few days. They gave her subcutaneous hydration and some other meds to help with the diarrhea. She silently threw up that med in my Jeep. I also discovered that one of the dogs had barfed in my Jeep last week. I didn’t know about it because it was on the driver’s passenger side. My husband had unloaded the pup from that side last week. He claims he didn’t see it, but I think he did and didn’t want to deal with it. On the other hand, he didn’t have his glasses on…again, which is 'nother whole story that I won’t get into.

So, I spent part of yesterday trying to get all of that cleaned out, but the puke went into some areas that are difficult to reach, so I’m just going to schedule a detail job. I’ve been wanting one forever, anyway. I scraped and cleaned everything I could get to in the meantime.

I need to steam clean the great room carpet. The dogs knocked over my husband’s coffee the other day, and he didn’t clean it. Just another thing on the list.

nellie, I’m glad you posted. I was wondering where you were. I’m sorry about the family crises and the toothache. I hope there is real improvement to both soon.

Well, the pups are clamoring for some attention. Time to tend to them again. My best to all.

I made a mistake at work a few weeks ago and it almost came back to bite me in the butt. I manage a lot of vendors and am vetting some for a particular project. They asked for feedback and I looked through my notes and realized I’d cut them loose without giving them enough of an opportunity. Welp, looks like they’re actually really good - both price-wise and ability-wise - and now I’m going to have to message them to say, “Oops - sorry 'bout that, please come talk to us.” Better to feel like an idiot short term than actually be an idiot long term. I’m glad it’s Friday.

Tonight I’m driving to beautiful Columbia MO for a swim meet. I’m pretty sure my daughter likes to swim competitively for the privilege of staying in a hotel and eating takeaway Chinese food. I only allow a couple of travel meets a year - it gets expensive and I’d rather take a roadtrip everyone can participate in - but it’s funny she’s willing to wake up at 5:30 a.m. on a Saturday & Sunday for a room cleaned (hopefully) by someone else and takeout food.

I actually managed to get myself on the treadmill last night. I promised myself if I moved for 10 minutes and still hated it I could stop. I made it 20 and woke up with a sore backside, but it was worth it.

Mooom, if you have the choice of a Falklands excursion to see penguins at the bluffs, do it! There used to be a charming teahouse there, as well as a different penguin species.

Off to visit the dr. My left ear hurts, not sure if its connected to my failed root canal which has been achy lately, which the dentist cannot have time to pull for 3 weeks, and no other dentist will as I’m on plain medicaid with no health plan.

Happy Friday!

I cannot believe it is 71 degrees outside.

I got very little sleep last night. I was up until 11, went to bed and woke at 130. Then I dozed until 230, when I gave up and got up.
My son had expected to get out of irk early, but he irked until a little after 6. He said he sat for 2.5 hours waiting for other teams to catch up so they could finish inventory.

It was so foggy this morning, I was driving between 10-15 mph on my road. I couldn’t see anything. The main roads weren’t much better.

After I picked up my son, we went to the dog park and met up with Petey and his dad. It wasn’t supposed to rain, but it did. We usually sit in the benches by the gate, but we had to go down to the pavilion.
The GR hit the ground running and I think they ran for the entire hour we were there. It’s 120, and they just woke up to go outside. Echo woke them or they may still be sleeping.

I’m glad all you plumbing mess is over and everything is being put back together MetalMouse
You are right, I meant to type bug, not big. It was a box elder but, they are about the same size as a lightning bug.

I called the pharmacy this morning and they had the order for Tramadol. It’s ready now, waiting for me to get it. I wonder how long it would have sat there if I hadn’t called.
Doggio, the doctor’s office just started making us bring our pills in with us. However, the only a month’s worth at a time and having to come in each month, they said that was federal law.

I can assure you, Shoe, Misiu wouldn’t bite. I’m not sure he knows how. I never thought anybody would take a biter through a drive through though. Even Cerby would sit politely and not make a move. I wouldn’t take a dog like that with me. Echo is good with people, but I think Rayleigh is going to be one to watch.

My Hamilton Ventura stopped several months ago. I took it to Fred Meyer in Bellingham for a new battery, but they had to send it down to their Everett store. When it came back I was told the battery was fine, but there was a loose wire and there was something about ‘tape’. They didn’t charge me for the repair. But a couple of months later, it stopped working again. It would run, then stop. I’d fiddle with the crown and it would start, then stop. Then it stopped working entirely.

I posted on the Blaine & Birch Bay Facebook group asking for recommendations for a place to have it fixed. One suggestion shows as being ‘permanently closed’ when I google it. I finally got round to calling the other suggestion. They said they only change batteries and watch bands, and suggested I call Hamilton (The Swatch Group)… which I did. They’ve sent me a form so that I can send the watch to their repair center in my old stomping grounds in Culver City. I’ll get to it eventually.

Right now I have a shirt in the dryer getting unwrinkled. When it’s done, I’ll shower and shave and get dressed. I have a couple dozen empty egg cartons I’m going to take to the food bank so that they can distribute their bulk eggs. Then I’ll go into town to look for a funeral suit/business suit. A black suit might be too severe for Christmas parties or whatever, but it would be appropriate for going to funerals. It would also go with the watch. :sunglasses:

We’ve pretty much exhausted our excursion budget. We plan to wander in Port Stanley on our own. The remaining Falkland excursions are far too rich for us.

It’s late afternoon and Drake is still benign. My sweetie is napping and I’m in the library trying not to snooze while reading. It’s a lazy day. We’ve already decided we’ll do the buffet for dinner - the dining room offerings didn’t appeal. Lentil patties?? Yeah, pass.

Not sure what the evening will hold. We shall see.

Happy Friday, everyone! My tooth is better, knock on wood. I guess it is/was an infection after all. Family crises are pretty much settled. Whew.

My sister-in-law half-jokingly asked if I’d come down there and chew out her retinal specialist. He’s brusque and doesn’t fully answer questions. She and my brother asked him for a referral for a second opinion. He gave them a name but said it was only for their own reassurance, that they could go to any eye doctor in the country, and they’d tell them the exact same thing he has. Could be, but he could have phrased it better. I hate dealing with egotistical docs. SIL is in a better state of mind about losing vision in that eye.

I have some tasks to do around the house then will head to the gym and then the grocery store. The lack of excitement is balm unto my soul.

Mom, glad the double-vision is only under certain circumstances, but hope you can get it checked out soon. My sister only had it in her middle vision and said she could drive OK with one eye closed. Her BP was well past 200 over something.

Also, SO glad you got to see penguins!

pilot, glad you’re feeling upbeat. Isn’t it wonderful when something turns out to be less of a hassle than expected? I hope that holds true for the whole divorce process. And yay for finding temporary housing with a compatible friend!

Coppertone, I think we should be able to order a dreams like we order a pizza (preferably from shoe). I dreamed a certain politician won the election and that I was going door to door to find his supporters so I could rant at them. Wouldn’t it be funny if some guy says to his wife, “I had this weird dream where some random woman rang our bell and ranted at me for voting for our guy”?

flyboy, hope the watch gets fixed in a timely manner.

Hahaha, one more “T” and you would have had Box Elder butts. It’s good to be juvenile. I’ve had box elder bugs. I was able to get rid of them pretty easily, though. Conicidentally, we were living in a town near the town of Box Elder, the HQ of the Chippewa (Ojibwe)-Cree and named after the Box Elder tree.

wordy, glad the little error didn’t turn into a big mess. And you definitely deserve a weekend.

Taters, glad Maisie is going to be OK. Glad you’re getting the car detailed.nIt’sn anjobnInalways hated. And I hope your husband starts cleaning up messes.

MetalMouse, glad the TV was an easy fix!

i would like it recorded that i have used coasters all week; and will continue to use them.

I’ve been feeding a couple of stray teenaged cats at the community center while trying to find them a place in rescue. Today I got the call that there was a place for them. I was concerned about being able to catch both of them at once, so hubs was going to go and help then come home and wait for the freezer.

Now it seems as though the freezer will arrive just about the time I need to get the kittens, so I tried to contact TC friend for help and haven’t heard back. Everyone else is too far away, I have to put the grabs on the kittens in about 20 minutes if I want them to sleep inside tonight.

If I can only get one today, well, I’ve got one and she will sleep somewhere warm tonight. I’ll get the other one another time.

So noted, rocking_chair. Moms everywhere are breathing a sign of relief (I know I am  ).

Ratting myself out for being shortsighted didn’t carry as much sting as I’d expected. It so happens I’m the only one that noticed. So that was a pleasant surprise.

Now, for the rest of the afternoon, we wait. Yes, to go to the swim meet. But more importantly, overlyboy hears from the two most difficult colleges he applied to this year. He’s steeling himself for a rejection, which is a very good possibility, but I’ve got my fingers and toes and hairs crossed for the best.
