(Old) When Mom's Away...A Coasterless MMP

Well of course the good stuff costs more!!!

I’m still playing with milk…making a brine to be honest. Did you folks know that if you can oversaturate water with salt? Once the hot water gets too much salt, the salt stops dissolving and just sits on the bottom of the pan no matter how much you stir it.

Man, we had a LATE close - got absolutely slammed during “panic hour”. Didn’t get the last customer on their way until 20 minutes after 1; we had cars stacked into the street in both directions at a few times.

Tomorrow is a Very Special Episode of Sports (the Detroit Lions are playing) so we’re anticipating a very busy 1st few hours, with another bump around halftime.
Guarantee the kitchen will have the game on, too.

Yup! Although I hadn’t seen the Fancy Feast brand yet - regardless, cats all go nuts for it regardless of brand or flavor. (Also, I suppose “lickable demi glace” sounds Fancier than “good in a toob.”)

Brought home a fresh box for Monkey, so he’s rollin’ around in some fresh 'nip at the moment. But thanks for the reminder, misred I’ll squeeze some out for him shortly once he’s good and high.

Yup, similar stuff.

One sec, imma go give Monks his portion now! BRB …

That’s how I prepare it to make a saltwater gargle, when I feel an impending sore throat: run a glass of sorta-hot-ish water, and keep stirring in salt until the water cannot hold any more. Then gargle away.
Helps disinfect and rinses away excess crud. I truly think it helps prevent or ward off throat infections if gargled promptly at the first signs.

Okay, I wanna finish off my patty melt and get to bed.
Y’all have a good night, amd watch out for penguins!

Awake before 5 again. Today’s destination is a clump of islands that we’re due to see this morning. Admiralty, I think. From my peek outside, it appears to be a cloudless day. We should get some good pics.

Speaking of weird dreams, last night I was moving into an apartment next door to Bob, an engineer I worked with from '86-'91-ish. The internet security code was 355, but the code to unlock the front door was 8 digits long! And there was some rule about curtains. Plus there was a guy wearing only an unbuttoned shirt, displaying his, um, attributes. No idea what any if that means…

But another sea day ahead. Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 56 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Gettin’ back to more typical weather for these parts in Winter. The big item on the agenda is deheathenization wherein I have verger duty. After that it will be back to da cave for a sammich N.O.L. and nappage. We shall actually make sup: grilled chikin tenders, peas 'n carrots, squishes, mac & cheese, and rolls. Sounds a lot more complicated than it is, as all that will take about an hour tops to make and twenty minutes tops to snarf down.

Talky yay for overlyboy for gettin’ into a top notch skool of engineering!

MOOOOOOM you were dreamin’ about your future home. Almost nekkid folks roamin’ the halls and a security code too confusin’ for the inmates to remember so they can’t escape, sounds like a home to me. Have fun at sea!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

We’re at King George Island. The ship has been going into inlets and pivoting for multiple photo ops. We saw a glacier shed some ice! It’s almost surreal!

At the moment, we’re taking a beverage break in the dining room.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. cleaning and handegg is on the agenda for me. Spot is squirrel watching from various windows.

Go Niners! :stuck_out_tongue:

They steal your pants.

You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. :cocktail:

Up way earlier than I want, thanks to the ratties. Thankfully, not the chaos that ensues if they chew out, but because they have a drinking problem loud, rattle-y water bottles.

Nursing moms especially hit the bottle hard consume a lot of water.

Wow, good insight!

Seems a touch early, but … okay. Cheers, then!

That’ll get you shot in some parts 'round here.

Way to make it sound like work.

I’m from Wisconsin. The whole state would shoot me if I pulled for the Lions.

Up. Only got approximately 4 hours of sleep ( a Ricky and Morty style dream, yikes) but won’t miss church, its great.
Caffeinated, or should I say, dunked.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/49f, and cloudy. Weather app says “This is fucking marathon weather. Except running fucking sucks.” OK, no marathon running for me today! In a slightly bizarre twist, Snickers did a 3-month trial rebranding as Marathon (it was called Marathon for years, until it became Snickers), and this was reported by Runner’s World!

Late start for me today, we didn’t get home from our night out until just after 2am, then had a cup of tea before bed. Got up late, but I’ve been productive - had a bath, and done the vacuuming so the house looks slightly less like a hovel than it did before. No other plans for today aside from sofa time with a book and probably a cat on my lap.

Boo what an excellent idea…I suddenly have a desire for savoury cheese scones! Shadow is the most likely contender for a lapcat, he likes to settle on his chosen lap and snooze for as long as you’ll let him. The girlies aren’t brave enough yet, although Blossom comes and sits beside me so she gets her fusses, and Cherry sleeps on the bed with us (also for her fusses) but neither of them has put a paw on a lap yet.

Taters happy anniversary, I hope you enjoyed your celebrations and time with your boy.

Wordy yay for your boy getting into a good school

Moooom glad you’re having a good time and seeing all there is to see, it’s been great to see the FB pics and share a bit of the excitement.

Pilot I’m sorry that you’re having to leave your apartment, I hope the new place gives you some breathing space so you can plan what you want to do next. Downsizing does make a big difference, doesn’t it?

Right…time to scavenge for some lunch and then get settled for the afternoon. I proofread a friend’s book of short stories recently, he sent me a signed paperback which arrived yesterday. It has a couple of bonus stories that weren’t in the Kindle version. I shall grit my teeth and read them…that man needs to learn how to use a comma or two!

Our beverage break consisted of his orange juice and my Darjeeling. We have since returned to our cabin so he can snooze and I can read, occasionally popping out on the balcony to take pictures.

No wind today, so it’s not nearly as brutal outside, but it was drizzling earlier. All the glaciers are striking! They look just the same as on TV! Lots of smaller ice chunks floating by, and the occasional smaller iceberg. It truly must be seen to be appreciated.

I wish we could have afforded a cruise on a smaller ship so we could go ashore. Maybe when we hit the lottery…

Mornin’ all.

It’s 54F, dark and cloudy outside. The expected high temperature is 64F, and we’ll have occasional rain showers throughout the day.

As it turns out, my son is coming up today. Yesterday, I spent time baking cookies, doing some laundry, and doing some general tidying.

FCM, I’ve been enjoying the pictures on FB.

I know there is much more to address, but once again, the pups call. I rarely have any time to myself anymore.

29F and clouds right down to the ground this morning. Pretty dismal. Hope it lifts later on, as the daughter is supposed to come over around noon and I don’t want her driving the freeway with it like this.

Dang! That sounds like some nursing homes I’ve been to.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and breakfast / lunch prep for the week. Winter is back here in middle Tennessee, although not as ugly as the past couple of weekends. It was 43F when I walked Nelson this morning.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Up by 7am and drove over to the Kroger to get my Sunday NY Times, then home until Dining time (Texas Roadhouse today). It’s sorta messy outside, some very light rain that you hardly notice when you’re out but the car windows are showing it and 41F outside, so not a real hospitable day. May get to the gym again or maybe not, we’ll see how it goes. Other than that, sloth and tackleball are all that are planned for the day.

FCM, great views and glad you’re enjoying it. And landing is spectacular and the penguins are literally a step away, but there are no paths and you have to climb rocky shores, so not sure how FCD would manage. And like you say, those trips are in the 5-figures, so this one sounds like a wonderful ‘best of both worlds’. Keep enjoying.

PS–Just checked Marine Traffic and you are now South of King George Island, not far from the Henryk Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station…just FYI

shoe, sounds like a busy weekend in-store. Hope the slackers get their act together.

swampy, Happy Vergering.

Coppertone, nappage on a Sunday is a good thing, ask swampy if you don’t believe me… And Rick and Morty-type dreams…  :exploding_head:

Taters, Cookie, enjoy the kids visiting.

OK, need to do the Sunday internettin’ and then proceed to the Great Sunday Feeding. Take care all.

That’s why God gave us Sunday afternoon naps.

“Virgin screwdriver.”

Isn’t that the weirdest feeling? Like, intellectually, of course they look the same, but … still.

I had the same feeling the first time I saw a giraffe really up-close.

They always do, temporarily, whenever Sweet Manager is keeping a watchful eye. Problems arise when she’s off - the woman can’t work all day every day - and even, briefly, when she steps outside to smoke, like, 1/4 of a cigarette.

We have other managers, but she’s the O.G. yanno?

Monkey is wearing his jingle-bell and wandering the slush. Supposed to stay above freezing for the next several nights - I can see most of my driveway again!

Heh, I can hear a squirrel starting up its scolding nearby. They always sound so damn cute when they’re mad.

Need to remember to bring some more tea bags to work - turns out a 16oz deli cup makes an excellent tea mug, and we have a whole bunch at work. Also wanna bring a coupla frozen taquitos - I usually oven-bake them (or even shhhh! microwave them) but they’re really best when fried.
So why not avail myself of access to a professional deep fryer or three?

Also ALSO need to remember the big bin; to that end, I put the little trash can I keep next to my chair out in the middle of the floor, where it’s underfoot and highly visible.
Thus, I remind myself to do things … but to a casual visitor, it’s like, “Why do you have a flowerpot full of trash out in the living room?”

Look, these things make perfect sense to me!

Heh. Now there’s TWO squirrels scolding the :black_cat: in harmony.

I wasn’t sure I’d make it, but here I am just barely squeaking into this week’s thread! I only skimmed the 316 existing posts, but noted a few things…

RealFish: :people_hugging:

Pilot: Aw man, I’m so sorry. It’ll suck for a while, but on the whole I hope the “this was so the right thing to do” feeling always outweighs the hurt. And I’m totally in the minority on this, but I actually understand Her Ladyship not wanting to hang onto any of your old stuff: she might agree that splitting is the best thing but it still won’t be easy, and she’ll already have the condo and things you obtained together as a constant reminder of what was. Frankly I wouldn’t want to keep any of your “before” stuff, either: getting new things would help me with moving on/a fresh start. Maybe that makes me all of the things that folks in this thread have called HL, but I figured I’d share an alternate perspective.

Flyboy: Ugh, sorry about your other uncle! Expected or not, a loss is a loss. My grandparents had a combined 8 children; at this point, 5 remain and the oldest of them now is my father.

Hippie: That really sucks about your friend/former boss. :frowning:

Taters: I’m glad Maisie wound up being ok, but yeah…gotta love the $$$ emergency vet costs!

As for me, last week was – as you might guess – way busier than usual. At work I was wrapping up a proposal (which included spending Monday afternoon in the proposal center, notable only because I saw my former boss for the first time in four years) and my customer decided to suddenly change part of the process for departing staff. I also had volunteer-related meetings most nights: Zooms on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and an in-person thing on Thursday. Plus I went to the gym three times (Tues, Fri, Sat). I had a brunch-time jazz jam session on my calendar for today, but spent all morning catching up on both personal and volunteer-related things and didn’t finish until too late. It’s fine with me, though, because it’s damp and cold outside and I’m a little sore from the three personal training sessions and I’m definitely feeling “spend the [rest of the] day on the couch with the dog” vibes.

Yesterday I started watching the ABC/Hulu show Will Trent, and binge-watched most of S1 (which aired last year). I’ll finish the season today, and will be all set for the S2 premiere in a few weeks. I’m not entirely sure why I never checked it out last year…I think maybe I saw something comparing the main character to Adrian Monk, and I wasn’t interested in that idea (I loved Monk, but have already seen it; happily, Trent is nothing like Monk at all).

In other “Misnomer Watches A Lot of TV” news, I still have 1.5 seasons of Northern Exposure to finish but there are two short docuseries on my list that I think I’ll at least start after I finish Will Trent: one about Australian dance academy* students trying to get professional jobs (Dance Life), and one about a Staffordshire teaching hospital (999: Critical Condition).

*Yes, I’ve seen Dance Academy.

Time to take the doggy outside, get my clothes out of the dryer, and relocate to the living room for lunch and Will Trent. Happy Sunday, y’all…catch you in the new thread!

Messages are starting to circulate. Apparently my cousin has an appointment on the 31st to make arrangements. My cousin-by-marriage says she’ll make sure my remaining uncle and my aunt (who is having foot surgery in a couple/few weeks) will make it up. They’re in the Portland area, and my late uncle lived in Puyallup.

I did exchange the black suit coat yesterday. Trousers should arrive to my house on the 31st. I’ll wait until closer to the service to get my hair cut.

That explains why there’s a thread about cooking beans & TWO separate threads about chili all running concurrently.

Put on my big girl pants regular pants, and rounded up the trash, plus tossing the old bedding (god I moved the ratties into their new tank, what, like a week ago? but it was around the corner in their room, and “out of sight, out of mind”) anyway, the big bin is now suitably ensconced at the curb to await the truck.

However, now I haz a very melancholy.

One of the things I threw away was a pair of old socks, with holes in them.

That my Other Shoe got for me.

They were good socks, too, a nice brand and very well-made, and they were one of his 1st employee purchases when he got a really great job after years of crap, and yanno, they really meant something to me.
He’s been gone over ten years, but every time I pulled them on I’d briefly think of him, and those happy times when he’d 1st gotten that job that made him so happy, and how good things were for a while.

So they were old socks with holes in them, but I’m still boo-hoo’ing over throwing them away.

Which, like the “flower pot of trash in the moddle of the living room” makes no damn sense, without the backstory, and why I’ve long ago resigned myself to being considered weird.

I’m not weird, I just … do things differently.

Like cry over throwing away socks.

:people_hugging:

I understand both of those things.
