(Old) When Mom's Away...A Coasterless MMP

I’m sorry about your dog friend nellie. Even when they aren’t our own, sometimes they leave a hole in our lives when they go.

I’m glad that your daughter has some opportunities available that she didn’t plan on having Mooooooom. May she find something that she loves and pays decently.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Since it’s raining, I won’t ride today, but rain shouldn’t keep me away from the other plans.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Thanks for the recommendation~I looked it up on the company website and Palmetto is supposedly sold at my local grocery store, in fact at the very one I was caressing pimento cheese at a few days ago. I may have even been fondling Palmetto. My store has pimento cheese in two spots depending on how chi-chi (read ‘expensive’) the spread is. The plebeian stuff is back in the refrigerator section with all the other cheeses and a few are way over on the other side of the store in the deli with the gourmet cheeses and party trays. Will hunt some down next time I go. Living alone, sometimes I just want a quick and easy supper, without cooking or fuss, to be eaten sitting on the couch reading da Dope or watching Netflix. Pimento cheese and ritz™️ crackers does ‘quick ‘n easy old lady in her robe and slippers meal quite slickly. To be healthy and all (and in case moooom or jane are watching), I slice up an apple and orange for dessert.

I wouldn’t dare go in the first place! I’d just want to sit at your house and be swarmed by kitties while you put plates of cheese samples and scones in front of me, washed down by tea brewed right. When the sun is over the yardarm we could start on g & t’s to stave off scurvy. I’ve yet to meet an English gin I didn’t like. Better yet, a flight of gin and tonics, alternating with tasting flights of hard ciders. All with cheese platters and cats in my lap of course.

I always describe it as Spanish without all the pesky letters, but as you say, it’s much more than that. Also, Brazilians have some different vocabulary and the pronunciation is completely different than with the Portuguese. After the six month torture of learning Portuguese, the six months of French was a breeze.

This morning found us doing charity work: loading small bags with winter things for homeless people: hand/toe warmers, gloves, hats, etc. This one was very different from others we’ve done. There were a lot of homeless and former homeless people there helping to fill the bags, instead of the usual cadre of financially secure folks. 1100 bags filled in all.

The rest of the day will be sloth. The daughter comes for a visit tomorrow, so I guess she’s over her mad with me.

Light heaving today. I stopped at the Likker Sto after work, they now sell :open_mouth: Malört :open_mouth:

As long as the helmsman sees it.

Yay!

Happy Anniversary!

We finished off our leftover New York steaks for breakfast, along with over-easy eggs.

I’m feeling very “blah” today. Upcoming Long Night is, well, long; Sweet Manager will be in charge so at least the Semi-Worthless Duo will hafta pull their weight, but I’m just not feeling enthused.

Think imma head to the nearby diner & get a patty melt. Some protein might boost my energy, and I can take the rest of it with me to snack on during the night.

At least it’s above freezing so my driveway has slushified into something approaching drivable. Will hafta deal with the plastic doohickie scraping underneath the car, but that is an errand for Future Shoe on her next day off.

Hi folks - 3pm on Sat.

Today I bought boxes and packed the entirety of my worldly possessions. It doesn’t come to much: 2-1/2 wardrobes, 6 medium (18" square 12" tall) boxes, most of which are kitchenware I’ll probably donate some day, 10 file boxes of clothes, shoes, office stuff. A small tool box, 5 framed bits of art, a shorty filing cabinet, a desk, and a chair. Plus some odds and ends that don’t fit in boxes.

Not bad for age 65.

My pal with a pickup truck will come over on Sun morning and we’ll load the truck and git 'er done. I’ll be living out of my suitcase until I get where I’m going.

Her Ladyship was by turns happily chatty, distant, melacholy, and as so often with her, unintentionally grating. Yes, all my stuff has cooties and must be gone, not even a coaster. Then again, another person might well be shrieking and throwing things in this situation, so I count myself fortunate.

Overall my feelings on handling all this stuff is about 1/3rd of it is good, and 2/3rds of it is ballast slowing me down. But boy am I glad for the 3 successive downsizes over 10 years that got me whittled to this point.

And the apartment will still be quite full with her stuff everywhere. The place is always totally neat, but totally full. To a casual observer, there won’t be much evidence somebody just left. I left barely a dent in the mattress and not much else.

I have read every comment by everyone and am just about too fried to say much. I’m happy things seem to be going well for most of you. And hugs to those for whom it is not. And to be clear, things are going well for me too; just a very unaccustomed form of “well”.

Today I used a coaster aaaaand a trivet.

It was very exciting.

Yum. Who was it here who admonished me with something like, “Mangia!” I think?

… also, said diner has a new item on their menu: a mozzarella crunch burger.

I like mozzarella. I like crunchy things. I like burgers.

Literally added it to my To-Do List for Monday.

I’ve also packed some shredded chicken, and peanut M&Ms, so I am set for snax.

Monkey has investigated the drippy Great Outdoors and is currently slurping down some gooshy-food, while the birds and squirrels investigate the seed I scattered out for them.

This guy lost no time. (There’s a brief video on the third “image” but I dunno if it shows correctly.)

Because dry winter air (hello bloody nose!) I’ve been moisturizing my face quite a bit, really slathering on the lotion, which is probably why I’m also breaking out like a teenager nervous about prom night.

I would like to register a complaint with management the universe, as I feel I am too old for this shit.

My back hurts AND I have zits? Whatdafuq, yo.

Damn, dude.

I’m partial to a thin slice of butter and a dab of something spicy or savory (gochujang sauce is my current favorite, it’s like a sweet/spicy Korean ketchup) on a Triscuit.

I would embroider this onto a pillow for you, if I knew how to embroider!

Well, last time he was a no call/no show, turned out he was in the hospital.

Which is a pretty damn good excuse, and what (along with the aforementioned work ethic, when he does show up) got him right back onto the schedule.

But his mom was supposed to be in touch with Sweet Manager if he had another problem, and near as I know - which isn’t much - that didn’t happen.

I’ll see what I can find out today. The way restaurants work, you know everyone will be asking/gossiping.

Meanwhile, I need to yank on clean socks and slap on some mascara. It IS Saturday night, after all!

Howdy Y’all! We et at the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet and t hen it was back to da cave for nappage, followed by beerverages out on the back porch. A perfect day for a couple of retired grumpy old men.

Taters happy anniversary! Glad Maisie is back to her usual self today.

FlyBoy I rarely finish a steak in one sittin’, which is a good thing cause that means steak 'n aigs for breakfast!

The husband and split a steak at home. I haven’t been able to eat a whole steak in years. I used to split my steaks with Brandi and Polar, but with the pups they each get a bite because rich food is a bit much for their tummies.

I made my cookie dough and it’s cooling down in the fridge. Oven is preheating so I’ll be baking fairly soon.

We came up to Deck 15 to see Elephant Island. Temp is around freezing but wind is 70mph or so. We’re on deck chairs right by the doors, dashing out occasionally to take pics.

Again, some pics on FB.

A side observation - I was really concerned about our laundry on this trip. But we certainly haven’t gotten all sweaty or dirty, so it’s been easy to get 3 days from our jeans and 2 days for shirts. Unders are easy to slosh in the sink. So I won’t need the laundromat at all. Ten days to go.

Also, it’s too cool to look out of our balcony door and see mountains.

shoe, is this what you mean by squeezy crack? When I picked some Fancy Feast savory cravings treats up for Nelson at the grocery outlet (found out that he liked them when Sis bought some for his nearly toothless, tiny father and auntie), I saw them. I think they were about $ .50 each.

Happy anniversary taters!

The freezer is restocked with meat and frozen pizzas, the snack jar replenished, TP replaced, doggy treats purchased and other odds and ends that made their way into my buggy obtained at the outlet today. I escaped for $52 and change. I may snack on some of the pistachios later.

I’m pretty sure squeezy crack is this sort of treat.

“Leftover steak?” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I’m having a Vieux Carré for pre dinner cocktails, and watching hockey. Laundry is done, and put away.

Evening all. Soccer was coached and gym time was had, so I don’t feel too guilty about the big bowl of Fettuchini that is slowly (well, sort of slowly) being emptied as I type. Temperature is down into the 40’s F and it’ll be cool for the next several days, but nothing below freezing in the next week. Just catching up with my You Tube channels, lots of them post on Saturday or Sunday, so that keeps my brain moderately occupied. Tomorrow is Eat Out Sunday, Texas Roadhouse is on the schedule, I like their steaks and rolls, just got to remember to ask for no egg in the tossed salad.

Coppertone, you are my sort of people. And glad the ears are doing better.

Taters, enjoy catching up with old friends. And glad Masie is doing better.

Spicy, good to hear the work is nearly done and that you’re feeling better about yourself. I concur that taking the view "I’ve done everything I can and it’s pretty damn good’ is the correct opinion to have of yourself.

talkie, so good/bad news for overly boy…being accepted by a top-5 place (presume his interests have something to do with engineering) is no small thing.

Cookie, good on ya doing a good thing.

Pilot, some manly {{{ }}} for getting through all these sudden changes.

Even better would be a coaster and a trebuchet…

shoe, sounds like good planning for tonight.

FCM, Elephant Island sounds neat, from your map earlier it looks like you’ll be near Port Fitzroy, don’t know if they’ll let folks visit it (pretty small), but there will be penguins… And good news on the laundry.

OK, the fettuchinin is quietly assimilating in my digestive system and the Southwest Chief just arrived at LaPlata, Missouri, so time to end this missive and I’ll see all y’all tomorrow.

Also, with regard to dreams:
I was dreaming that my one beagle Nellie, a cougar, and feral Sinéad O’Connor were trying to break into my house through the screened in porch, and bite me. Then it got weird.

That looks similar, but higher dollar.
