My cat Atilla used to do that, but I got in the habit of putting stuff away as soon as I got the basket to my room. A couple days ago I broke habit, and guess what, Atilla was squirmed down into a nest when I came back.
Pilot, it sounds like it’s a good idea and I hope the pain remains tolerable.
This is said better than I could. Do write. A short note with maybe a family pic.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Spot has a blanket on the couch, and has claimed the dog kennel and bed as a war trophy.
Too soon to be awake yet here I am, thinking about hush puppies. The shoes, too.
We looked outside while it was still ridiculously light out ridiculously late last night and saw mountains almost close enough to touch! And when I looked out about 5 this morning, there were still mountains nearby. Guess I’m a pretty hard-core flatlander if I find mountainous proximity to be so fascinating. But I don’t want to live in or near them, thanks.
We’re scheduled in Ushuaia around noon and our excursion meets around 1:30. Since we’ll be on a catamaran, we’ll need to bundle up. But penguins!! Gotta be sure my camera is charged.
Happy Thursday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and mostly cloudy for the day. I don’t like it when it’s this warm in Winter because it can be a harbinger of nasty storms and rain is due tomorrow. There have been tornadoes this time of year due to this same type of weather. We shall head over to the church house this mornin’ so I can do the various things. Then we will go to the battery place to get a battery replaced in OYKW’s key fob. After that we will go to the hog trough GC for the main feed of the day. Thus the afternoon shall be spent is sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage and day drinkin’.
Hippie sorry to hear about Steve. I think a handwritten note or letter is a good idea as well. Maybe even a visit if he’s up to it.
MOOOOOM have fun with the penguins!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. This will be two days in a row. Most unacceptable!
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 44F with an expected high of 51F. It’s currently raining and will continue to do so throughout the day. Soggy, soggy, soggy.
Remember how I mentioned the multi-car accident that borked up my commute home on Monday. Yesterday there was ANOTHER accident that completely borked my commute. This one happened in the wee hours of the morning in the northbound lane, but still wasn’t cleared by the time I headed home at 2:30. Cue another extra 45 minutes to the commute.
But the good news is that today is my Friday, and I have three days of not working or commuting.
pilot, I’m sorry to read about the status of your marriage. I hope you both find happiness, whatever happens.
flyboy, I’m sorry about your uncle.
hippy, I’m sorry about your former boss. He sounds like a really good guy. I agree that a note or a letter telling him about his positive impact on you would be really nice
I had tentative plans to visit one of our offices in Port Angeles because fifteen file cabinets require file removal. I must also assess what we can haul off for junk and recycling. Anyway, I had plans to go next Tuesday, but my boss has the key, won’t be near the office for a while, and will be out of town for a work-related thing. So, I had to change my plans to accommodate that. I can be flexible, but I’m slightly annoyed. To be fair to my boss, he lives near there, wants to help with the project, and wants to take me and the MPA out to lunch when we come up. I’m annoyed because I had visions of knocking out part of this project and getting it completed sooner. It will require multiple trips because each file cabinet produces maybe five boxes of files. Frankly, I’m annoyed the programs haven’t removed their files in the last FOUR YEARS. Trips were made to remove individual files but not to empty the cabinets. It doesn’t even make sense. We have a deadline for file shipment to the FRC, which adds to all the work that should have been done four years ago. Admin doesn’t touch program files, but here we go again.
And I realize it sounds weird that we have an empty office on which we’re paying rent. We cannot officially close a site until Congress gives us approval. It takes years to get that approval, and we continue to pay rent on the space. It’s so wasteful.
I have multiple tasks to complete today, and I hope no crises cross my email. It would be nice to devote my day to the tasks at hand, but that’s a fantasy. I have so many back-burner items that I’m afraid they’re about to become a fire.
My son is coming up this weekend and plans to spend a couple of days here. It’ll be nice to have him home. He wants to see how much the pups have grown, and now that we have harnesses, we can take the pups for walks.
Alrighty, I have a kitchen to clean. Sending hugs to all.
.
Not soggy here, but fog.
We’re docked in Ushuaia. In about 2 hours, we meet in the Wheelhouse Bar for our excursion on the catamaran. Weather is loverly - looking forward to a nice trek.
Morning all. Up after 8 hours of sleepage and put more trash and recyclables out, it’s been two weeks since the last pickup and my (and everyone else’s) trashcans are bulging. Still raining lightly outside and looks like it will stay that way until this afternoon. No big plans for today, I still need to pay the plumbers, if I don’t hear from them by 11am or so, I’ll either call or ride over there (only a 5-minute drive). Then maybe gym time sometime later.
{{hippie}}, there are always a few special people we don’t forget (or shouldn’t). I concur with JtC and others, a letter saying what you feel would probably be a good thing both for him and you.
JtC, happy pickin’s from the food program.
shoe, never had a taste for pumpkin or the seeds thereof, but at least you gave your neighbors something to discuss… And sorry about you and your Mom but it sounds toxic enough that avoiding it is in your interest, I hope you have an alternative to find out about your Dad/
Coppertone, if something is free, grab it right then; first law of freebies. Haven’t worn Hush Puppies (the original casual type) in many years, may have to look and see if they are still around (quick look and they are–further inquiries to be done).
FCM, yeah, the scenery around the Straights of Magellan can be real neat, not sure when the ship leaves Ushuaia, if you sail out the way I did it will be pretty nice. Enjoy the penguins.
Taters, the boss is trying to help instead of trying to mess with your plans, so hopefully it will all work out and lunch will be delicious.
OK, onward into the day. Take care all.
enjoy!
i don’t have colour coded hangers, i do have 4 different types of hangers that serve different functions.
big heavy wood hangers, outer wear closet by the door.
skinny light wood hangers, blazers/jackets that have been worn at least once.
padded hangers, bedroom closet, items that have been cleaned and not worn.
white plastic hangers, things that need to air dry after laundry or worn in weather.
I endorse this as well. I got a Facebook message a couple of years ago from a young troop that I trained in the military long ago. As with all my charges, I chose to be a mentor rather than a taskmaster. He hunted me down on FB and told me that he never forgot how he was treated and that he had carried that example over to his civilian life. It did make me smile and made me feel that I had made a difference in someone’s life.
Heh, we’re both foggy AND soggy here.
It’s still really weirdly hazy out there, but since it’s above freezing, my entire 'hood is also one giant “drip, drip” punctuated by the dulcet tones of icicles breaking off eaves & falling, pointy end first.
Hell, we had an icicle hanging off the roof at work (right in the “hidden” area where the smokers huddle) that we watched grow to over 4 feet long until one night, Sweet Manager broke it off … and walked in holding it like a damn spear.
Sitting on our balcony watching a small container ship being loaded. Pics on my FB.
Less than an hour to our excursion!
The best part about this is the ripple effect.
He emulated you, which meant HE acted as mentor instead of taskmaster to other people … most of whom benefited themselves, and a few of whom may have gone on to follow his example (“Wow, what a great guy! I should try to be more like that …”) and so on and so forth …
Yeah, it’s a good feeling. I saw so many young troops for whom it was too late. They’d been ruined by assholes whose idea of “leadership” was to treat young troops like shit and then punish them when they became malcontents.
Thanks! It is a very good thing that we both like broccoli! We got a large bag of broccoli florets that will translate to three freezer bags once I’m done. Bread, grapefruits, eggs, flavored water, two “hello fresh” meal bags, two bags of shredded cheese and a meat and cheese party tray.
I will be really happy when our upright freezer arrives, it will make pre-freezing food so much easier. Currently I balance the cookie sheets as best I can in the chest freezer, shelves will make things so convenient.
The waters will go to TC friend and I will be making a trip to the library’s food shelf in half an hour. I want to try to get all of the food stuff done early because we have things to do in town that include an early dinner at our favorite Mexican place and then stopping at the dairy for nine gallons of milk.
The parm I started yesterday is past the really finicky part (removing from the press, re-wrapping, turning and then back into the press with a few more ounces of weight every 15 minutes (that gradually extends to every couple of hours)) so I can get more started.
I’m so glad you got that message. Good people make a very quiet difference in the world, I’m glad you heard his words before it was too late.
I am a retired archivist. Do you have any idea how twitchy some of your posts make me? Those folks need to learn about the importance of following the goddamned retention schedules!!!
metal mouse, I know he’s not trying to hinder me. The problem is losing a week. Even he finally admitted that he didn’t realize what a big deal the records thing was until I put together a meeting with National. I have five months, six offices, and literally decades of records to ship off. This is a gigantic task. I need all the time I can get.
Some of our data is sent to members’ FTP folders. Our IT support moved the folders to a new server. Of course it’s totally transparent… right? I asked a member to attempt an upload, and they couldn’t log in. I just love it when they change things for no apparent reason! (That was a lie. I don’t like them fixing things that aren’t broken.)
