(Old) White Out! The Official Start Of Summer MMP

Let’s just say, there are only a couple of places at the new places yard that I feel ok taking a pee. We do have 6’ privacy fences though, and the back goes to some open space. The mountain house is pretty much any where you want. Don’t pee on the wheels of my car though please (I’m looking at you Jackson [my dog]). New house is 1/3 of an acre. Small.

Cool. I never did convert recipes even at 11.2. Maybe there is a point where it just doesn’t matter anymore, you are screwed. Or I’m a shitty cook.

And a late afternoon update; got a little bit of rain and burned 1,100 calories at the gym but nothing else exciting to report. Dinner will be the usual Tuesday Mac-n-Cheese and will try to control my snacking habits for the evening.

Sticky Buns, if you do get it, I hope the job grows on you.

Looked it up and might have to give them a watch. You may want to try Girl With the Dogs, that’s my pet go-to You Tube.

flyboy, I’ve been getting messages about my Social Security benefits…considering I never worked enough to earn Social Security benefits (I’m under the US Govt. retirement system), I am..dubious about them…

Czarasm, haven’t been to SF convention in years and never been to a furry con, but may have to think about one or the other, they can be fun.

Dicey, you had me curious so I looked it up…Happy Ascension Day!

flyboy, glad you get the professional touch on the toes; I clip my toenails when they start catching on my socks. I still haven’t received the COLOGUARD I was supposed to get, need to follow-up with the Doc’s office on that (thanks for the reminder).

Oopsie, concur that leaving on-time is a good decision; just be careful, driving while tired is a bit of a risk anytime.

Cookie, glad the nieces-in-law could visit.

Van Go, hope you get feeling better soon; know your still trying to make a good impression, but a day off might be to your benefit…

As for proper dress, I will wear a PJ bottom and t-shirt out in my yard to collect the mail or fiddle with the water, but since I sleep sans clothing, I do put them on before proceeding outdoors…

red, when I worked in Personal Property for the US Army, it depended on the weight of the shipment to determine the cost. I’d go with the lower bid to if you’ve checked them out.

And it’s nearly 6pm locally so will get dinner underway (which means taking the box out of the freezer and popping it into the microwave). Take care all.

swampy, you made me look back at my elementary school (I attended 4 but you never forget your first…). The building is still there but it’s offices for the school district now. Good old Meadowbrook…

I’m guessing part of what me so out of sorts today is the stress from yesterday. I was handed a contract to keep me on as a term employee through the end of the year, or you are done at the end of June, now go talk it over with the union. The union was displeased at this, but I told them, I gotta look out for myself. Not a fun few hours of discussions. My department is still understaffed according to the CBA.

But I did sign the contract, so I’ve got a job for the rest of the year. And I’m feeling better-ish.

Wifey, RN was fired by a patient’s caregiver a couple of months ago. Wifey, RN knew she was a grifter before she even met her. She texted, ‘[Patient] won’t need you anymore. I’m a certified hair stylist, and I’m taking care of his feet.’ (Wifey, RN: ‘Huh? I’m a freakin’ RN!') The caregiver had a mean dog too. Wifey, RN has another patient upstairs, and she was scared every time she went to the house, with that dog growling at her. The caregiver ran up all of the guy’s credit cards and took him for all she could. Now she’d in jail. Apparently, she couldn’t afford her bail. The dog, Wifey says, is ‘in rehab’. The VA is sending someone over to wrap the guy’s legs. Mrs. L.A. might be taking him on as a patient again to work on his feet.

Also, a patient she was supposed to see in a couple of days died this morning. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be around long. The patient has been in hospice for a few weeks.

You did what you had to do. Hopefully, they’ll see that they’re going to need you long beyond 01 Jan and bring you on permanently.

That’s just too sad about your wife’s patient, flyboy. It sucks that there are people who screw others over like that.

She might have thought the salmon treats were for her. I hope you bipeds shared!

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan and some Old Bay seafood stew. Spot is sacked out on the couch and sleep grunting.

78 of 170. It was a one day layoff, and they took voluntary first.

We deliver a lot of Poop Cubes on Saturdays. I hope to God they don’t use them to Sunday night.

Sorry you’re getting stuck in a beef between the union and the museum.

I like a good pun.

I didn’t open the envelope, so I don’t know if it’s cubic.

My elementary skool was torn down about ten years ago due to lack of participation. My home town used to be a place with parks and schools and families, now it is filled with factory workers who spend all of their spare money on lifted trucks. Parks and schools aren’t needed because the houses are filled with adult males.

Or they were, now it is a ghost town because everyone with brown skin is afraid of ICE and everyone with white skin moved away when the language barrier became an issue.

I only thought about that because of your post. Then I thought about it a whole lot more and got all verkempft over the whole thing.

I hate cling film no matter what, but the thicker stuff really is worth the money.

It is nice that the ones your family members recommend come in lowest! Don’t trust them with your precious stuff anyhow, nobody cares about your memory items than you do!

Or maybe you just learned to adjust automatically. Baking bread and cakes can be very picky and I can’t imagine how much compensation would be needed for cheese makin’ at that altitude. The boiling temp would be so low that it would be hard to keep the milk from scorching.

I am really hoping that things will have settled down by then. Plus, you will have gotten everyone so used to having you at their beck and call that they will move heaven and earth to keep you.

That is such a sad story, I am so sorry for him. Sad for her losing the other patient as well. I know this is part of her job, but it’s still gotta be upsetting.

Stops breathing into paper bag.

I’m glad you got the choice to work and make money, Spot needs the top shelf catnip.

It sounds like things are improving. He has a family member as PoA, and it sounds like she’s on the ball. I suspect the credit card companies will write off the charges as fraud. I hope it turns out well for him. (Apparently, he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.)

Yes, it is to be expected with geriatric patients. :frowning: My sister was a CNA in a nursing home in the '70s. She’d make friends with her patients, and then they’d die. She had a mental breakdown. I don’t know if I could do it. I have a very morbid sense of humour, and ‘gallows humour’ is a well known coping mechanism, In real life…? I don’t know if I could take it. (Not that I’m empathetic or anything…)

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 61 degrees Ferret Height(16.1 Centipedes) and raining. I haven’t made my bed, because somebody is crashed out in it.

Awoke from stupid dream. Notice how quiet and peaceful it feels when most people in your time zone are asleep?

I hope you’re feeling better today. And, yes, I agree with the sentiment that you did what you had to do by signing the contract.

It’s been a weird night. I was feeling head zappy and laid down at 6:30 last night. Then I got up at about 9 and stayed up for about 1 1/2 hours. I went back to sleep and then got up about 3 this morning. I decided to stay up and here I am. MusicMan will be getting up in about 5 minutes. I hope that he’s feeling better today.

And he called off. I’m glad he did. He says he’s going to go to the doctor today. Yay!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 16c/61f and mostly cloudy. Weather app has been listening to flyboy and says “It’s a good day to see if you are still fucking able to suck your own toes. Or someone else’s toes. I won’t fucking judge.”

Fingers crossed for you then! How is MusicMan doing today? Hope he’s improving!

An additional battalion with extra-sharp sticks did the job for me.

Have you been forgiven yet? Or bribed her with a sufficient quantity of treats?

And probably goes directly to a call centre in India where you get to speak to John, who has an almost indecipherable accent

Extremely, and I am sure she does a very good job too. My diabetic friend has regular visits to his GP practice to see the diabetic nurse, and also podiatry appointments to look after his feet properly.

We have shredders at work but not the size that would take the whole album so I’d have to carry it all the way there, and still rip it up to go in the machine. Most of our paper rubbish is confidential waste so it goes in big bags or bins, and gets taken away to be shredded elswhere. Far less satisfying than ripping it all up myself

VanGo hope you feel better soon.

Nothing exciting in my day so far, my shiny new team leader has cried off with a migraine today so we are technically unsupervised! I’ve got some things to do, and I sent off a bunch of queries to other people yesterday that I’m waiting for replies on.

At some point during the day I need to bake some chicken in a bag of seasoning so it’s ready for campus lunches, and make a couple of tubs of overnight oats for breakfasts. If my friends are fit and well, I’ll be out at the pub tonight with them, but other than that, I’m not expecting any drama today. That probably means something will happen that I wasn’t expecting!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and rain later this mornin’. The big items on today’s agenda are to procure provisions and attend the last Wednesday doin’s until September over to the church house, which also takes care of sup. We don’t need much from the sto’ so last night we kicked around the idea of goin’ to Aldi’s when we leave the church house this evenin’. We could do that and still be back in da cave before dark.

VanGo I also agree you made the right decision. Gotta look out for yourself.

Sticky_Buns glad MusicMan decided to call off today. Hope he feels better soonest.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I shall also convince (don’t think it will be too hard) OYKW to do the Aldi’s thing and spend the day in RDOS inactivities.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

In my working life I belonged to two unions. Neither were a positive experience.

Amalgamated Meat Cutters went on strike and then did not negotiate in good faith with the employer. Two months into the strike I just found another job.

The Carpenter’s Union took on way more apprentices that there was work and the hiring hall was a joke. It was an obvious cash grab from hard working men. After I left the regional took the local over due to the corruption.

I had a friend eons ago who worked with cancer patients - she had to transfer to a different section because of all the deaths. I can’t even imagine…

Our cable/broadband company has apparently outsourced their help desk. The agent I reached not only had a very thick accent, but I kept hearing a dog barking in the background, so I’m guessing she worked from home. I had to really concentrate so I didn’t have to constantly ask her to repeat. But at least my billing issue was resolved.

MIL would go to the podiatrist to get her toenails trimmed, then come home and tell us (every time) that we could get it done for free and Medicare would pay for it. Except we didn’t have that Medicare coverage so, no, we couldn’t get it done for free. Plus we are still able to do it ourselves.

I never belonged to a union, but the one I could have joined was less than impressive. The local head guy managed to keep his buddy from being fired - the buddy who literally slept at his desk and hardly worked (I knew this because he and I were assigned a project together and I wound up doing his part so the job would be done.) In the end, tho, even the union couldn’t save the slacker. He went from being an engineer to working at Home Depot…

Good friend Mel hauled me to dreamland last night and I think I got close to 9 hours uninterrupted. In fact, I was falling asleep during the last half hour of Vera last night, tho I saw enough to know the victim was killed by his jealous gay lover. Oddly enough, the episode of Dr. Blake that we watched just before Vera also had a jealous gay lover murder. Interesting that they’d both come up in my rotation on the same day. We’ll see if the next episodes parallel each other.

Very rainy and chilly day here - forecast to reach mid-60s at most. We have an appointment with our money guy this afternoon. I even remembered to make a list of the things I want to ask him - largely regarding what happens to the money when one/both of us die. Daughter is beneficiary, but I don’t know if the annuities continue to pay out or if the beneficiary gets a lump sum or what. Then there’s the account that pays BIL’s rent - it’s currently in FCD’s name and it can’t go to BIL because he wouldn’t know how to manage it. Anyway, money issues to settle.

Not much apart from that. Food Lion has rotissed chickens on sale - I’m thinking that will be supper tonight. That’s as far ahead as I’ve thought so far. Maybe my brain will be clearer after I shower.

Happy Wednesday!

Mornin’ all - a bit after 8am as I start driveling. Was up an hour before dawn balconatin’ and caffinatin’ until an hour-ish after sunrise as the sun played hide and seek between / behind clouds. Looks to be another warm/hot wonderful day here. The agenda is RDOS, RDOS, and RDOS. If I finish all that, there’s more RDOS on the backup list. And maybe a car wash.

Sent GF home yesterday after 3 days of togetherness. Well one full day and two half-days. Still pretty nice. The mid-week get-together that would be tonight won’t happen, but this weekend is looking favorable.

It was an adventure.

We had the hostess, my GF, and 3 other women. All of whom had been a tight clique in high school, so ages 14-17. And all of whom are 68 or 69 yos now. One of the women brought her long-time husband who’s been an honorary member of this club for ~20 years.

The hostess definitely has the mostest. Lots of scratch-made excellent food & drink & theme décor & general party atmosphere. She’s also ragingly proudly ADHD and cannot. shut. up. So there were always at least three conversations going. The one a couple of the other girls were having, and the two or more that Madam ADHD was blathering about in alternating sentences. SQUIRREL!! I can normally hold my own in multi-way group convos, but she was three topics down-track before I could ready my witty riposte.

Between that, the squealing, the giggling, the in-jokes, and the "Do you remember …?"s it was challenging for my old ears. But it made GF very happy, and that makes me happy. They do this about once a month always at Casa ADHD.

I did manage to have good side bar convos with two of the other three women and poor long-suffering hubby. One of the other women is married, but her husband is in the early stages of disastrous no-hope disease, decline, and demise. So he did not / could not attend. I commiserated with her about that as best I could. It seems she doesn’t really have anyone else to talk to about her burdens carrying his burden. I’m going to see if I can get her other pals to step up.

We were there 8 hours. Plus the two it took for GF to get ready to go. So it pretty well destroyed our one whole day together. Sigh. But we did have a very nice pre-game and post-game party just us two. With no falling out of chaise lounges I might add.

It would be interesting to get the gaggle together without Madam ADHD. She’s clearly the main energy mania source, and the experience without her would be very different and much more outsider-friendly.

GF has a different posse of about 6 other chix from later in her life; I’ll eventually get more than a hi-and-goodbye shouting at the bar gathering with them too. The two posses would not mix well together.

Gotta be careful. Depending on which store and which delivery service, they can often mark up the items 10 or 20% over what you’d pay at the store. So that $3.50 jar of PB on the shelf is $5.00 on the ordering website.

That’s where they make their money. The $5 delivery fee is just camouflage.

That dishonest business model is what turned me off of grocery delivery.

Thanks for the heads up. We had a flurry of stuff delivered to the new house, I had to be there to receive it. So the grocery delivery was very welcome.

That, and we are so crazy busy right now going back and forth to the new house. It’s a 3 hour one way drive. I have a tool shed packed to the gills, I’m used to doing things for myself. But am so busy that I hired a handyman (hangs head in shame).

I started work at 6am today, so I have to keep doing that. Yes, I cheat and hand out on the SDMB, currently I waiting for code to run it’s course.
