(Old) White Out! The Official Start Of Summer MMP

Still cant wear a ahoe without it hurting.

We have trash chutes here too. We all got a nastygram from Management a month or two ago about improper stuff down the chute. In that case an ironing board. WTF? What kind of heedless moron threads an ironing board down a trash chute hatch?

Down at the bottom the chute empties into a special kind of dumpster and trash compactor combo. The compactor was not made happy trying to cut an ironing board in half.

Having run the condo with multiple trash chutes, the worst part from the staff’s POV is that once a clog exists at any level, there’s no way for folks upstairs from there to know the chute is blocked. So they just keep tossing stuff down there. Which builds upwards until somebody notices or fesses up. At which point the staff can lock the doors on the higher floors to prevent the backlog in the chute from getting even taller. Uggh! a nasty business all around.

And I’m done. The last cabinet was full of surprises - stuff I’d bought and never used, stuff that’s now boxed to go. I put an ad in FB Marketplace - all the stuff for $40, must take ALL!! I’ll give it a couple of days, then it all goes to the thrift store. If someone comes to buy it, I won’t have to haul it myself.Genius, huh?

Time to chill. Food Lion has rotissed chickie on sale, so that and some salad will be supper. And the balance of the chickie will be saladed for future meals. I’ll head out around 3:30 or so. But now, my recliner beckons!

Yup to all that. An ironing board? How stupid do you have to be to do that? I’m going to take a suggestion downstairs that this be addressed at the next residents meeting, but management should send out something before that.

Yesterday the Delayed Deliver trailer was a mess, so I started there. So it wasn’t a mess. The rest of the building? Oy. Unload and the Primary Sort were FUBAR, and so was the 300 Table, so I got sent there. Which was a mess past 7. Then I was sent to help on the 400 Belt, becuase the Sup was training Blueberries, so no one was teaching the Blueberries on the belt how to load. And The Supreme Shouting Officer showed up and was shouting at the Sup, and the one experienced loader for…reasons. Cleanup was anticlimatic. I did my Senior Day shopping after work.

Spot is interested in it, almost as much as he is for salami.

also a good description of a taco truck.

Hot or cold?

The Hindmost.

I read this as a slightly different sentence. :face_with_tongue:

Well, < gestures at large chunk of the human population >

I’d prescribe him a rubber mallet to the cranium.

:musical_notes: TOMORROW, TOMORROW, I LOVE YOU TOMORROW!! Sights only a day away!!! :musical_notes:

No real sleep last night, mostly needle nightmares. I expect it will be more of the same tonight. Once my first eye has been successfully operated on, I wonder if my sub-conscious will let up on the nightmares next time.

I’ll be on lifting and bending restrictions for the next week and I won’t want to risk getting garden dirt in my eyes so I’m getting all of that stuff done now. I ordered some real grow bags and want to get them filled and planted later this afternoon. Laundry has been done (ten lb lifting limit) and I made a cheesecake. (milk is 8.3 lbs in the jug)

It’s only for a week and I’ll have Hubs to lift things if needed, its just a bother to want to do something and have to get his attention and/or wait until he won’t get killed, then tell him what I want and why, then wait for him to get up and go and do it for me. He doesn’t get crabby about it, I just don’t want to have to wait on him.

@BippityBoppityBoo They told me to dress comfortably tomorrow. Would it be too shocking if I didn’t wear a bra? If I could get myself in the car without one, I mean.

Never having lived in a building with a trash chute, I had no idea how much trouble they could be.
Do folks in your building read signs? Would management hang signs on every floor to perhaps stop .01 % of the clogs?

If you can’t have coffee (I’m assuming it is because of the caffeine and tannin’s), black tea is just as bad and sometimes worse.

And yet, it’s on the list of things I can drink today.

Having some beef broth. Its best-by date was September 2023, but it’s fine.

trash chutes and the crazy things people will throw down them.

we have gotten emails about:

bowling ball
paint cans
tables
chairs
styrofoam
pizza boxes
box full of glass/mugs/other items that shatter upon arrival
litterboxes

the bowling ball broke the big bin (seriously, people, there are 2 goodwill bins!).

the paint can exploded when it hit the big bin and the trash room was covered in paint.

the littler boxes, styrofoam, pizza boxes, tables, and chairs (folding types) got wedged in the chute.

the various boxes of breakables (again! goodwill bin!) explode when they hit the big bin and sharp bits go flying in all directions.

when i toss a light bag down the chute from the 10th floor there is a bit of a “boom” when it hits the bin. i can’t imagine what it sounds like in a higher building like the nyc high rises.

First things first: here’s the Lego typewriter that I finished on Monday.

A larger pic + a photo of it on display can be found in my Lego album.

Yesterday’s podiatrist appointment went smoothly. I did, in fact, have a toenail removed (my right foot’s big toe): no pain or discomfort at all yesterday, even while sleeping. I removed the dressing and did my first soak + bandage change at lunchtime: I wouldn’t say it hurts, but I can tell that I messed with that toe. I took two Tylenol right before I started the soak, and hopefully that’s helping to stave off anything worse. I’ll soak it/change the bandage once or twice a day for two weeks, or until the wound is dry and healed. I got a box of extra large Band-Aids with built-in Neosporin for the first 8 changes, then I’ll switch to “plain” Band-Aids with manually applied Neosporin. I’m really glad that it’s finally done and I can start healing. I’m not sure if I’ll be up to wearing a real shoe for ~16 hours by election day (just under three weeks from today), but if it comes to it I’m sure other election officers have worn worse things than sandals.

I usually get Wegman’s delivered at lunchtime on Thursdays, and today was no exception: I really like one of their deli sandwiches, plus I’m usually out of bananas and/or Gatorade Zero by this time in the week. But I also usually feel a little guilty about being lazy, and today I was able to order with a clear conscience because of my toe situation.

(The prices on Instacart are higher than in-store, but that info is presented very clearly and it’s a deliberate choice on my part. Other stores don’t have higher prices on Instacart, but Wegman’s does; at least, the one near me. As LSLGuy has said, prices and fees vary widely by both delivery service and store.)

Happily I have no plans for the next few days, except maybe seeing my BFFs on Sunday for HusbandBFF’s 67th birthday. He still has to decide what he wants to do, which I know will depend on how WifeBFF feels that day. I have his gift ready to go for whenever I do see him/them. Worst case I should see everyone the following weekend, because their son (my “nephew”) and his GF are coming from Texas for 1-2 weeks and they get here on 6/7. It’s a stressful time for those two: the GF graduated from college two weeks ago, and they’re preparing to move out of her parents’ house in Lubbock, put their stuff in storage, come here for a visit, then stay in an Airbnb for a couple of weeks before moving into a Dallas-area apartment on 7/1. Her first job starts on 7/14. I have a graduation present for her – they’ve been dating since high school; she’s like family – and will also be giving my nephew a chunk-o’-cash to help them with the move (no strings: they can use it for furniture, Lego, or whatever they want!).

Which is exactly why this cleared federal contractor hasn’t indulged in ~30 years.

Where is the box of my family’s stuff that the Army lost during our 1985 move back from England??!!

Fancy lights are only in +$3M homes! Duh!

Ugh… :crossed_fingers:

Ha! :joy:

Me, too! And yeah, you’d think they’d all be good at it, but…no. I always thank the person when I have a painless stick.

I guess there’s no real harm if it turns out that it actually isn’t fine…

As long as it doesn’t give me diarrhea!

Like LSL’s operation, this one has a compactor that is triggered by trash coming down. If something jams the compactor, everything is dead stop until the blockage is removed.

ah, we have a 1940’s building. no compactor at the bottom. just big bins that get rolled out throughout the day to the outside the building compactor.

there was an incinerator at the bottom of each chute when the building opened. incinerators are no longer allowed.

the tv show elsbeth had an episode on the super high rises and problems they have. trash chutes being one of them. the episode was based on issues from 432 park avenue.

I knew about those because I watched The Bad Seed.

I’m glad it all went well and you aren’t all ouchie. The main reason I would suggest you do your best to wear full shoes on election day is so you don’t stub your toe on equipment as you are moving around. Or get stepped on :scream: cause even if it is an accident…it will hurt.

Your typewriter is very cute. Do the keys work? I can remember untangling them so often back in the day.

Stuff kept getting done until the rain started. I gathered all of my stuff back up into the garden cart and dragged it under the carport and went back in for half an hour until it stopped again. I pulled the cart out and started mixing soil and peat moss and it started raining again. The cart is back under the carport and Hubs has promised to finish up for me tomorrow or Saturday.

Everything else I wanted to get done has been done and now I’m just waiting until 0700. I should probably call mom. Or not, I’m sure she’s forgotten all about this by now and I don’t really want to worry her needlessly. Maybe I’ll just call her tomorrow after it is done. And I’ve had some coffee and am able to put more than two words together at the same time.

Since we’re talking toenails, I walked over 100 miles into Canada with some friends a couple of weeks ago, with no foot problems. Then at the conference we were attending, a guy in the auditorium lost his balance and stomped my toe. The nail is a beautiful black plum color and I expect I’ll lose it. Too bad he didn’t tromp on the other big toe, where the nail is a bit ingrown and a new nail might be more comfortable.

Also: Alaska. We bought smoked salmon and are now eating it.

No colonoscopy for another 8 years.

Best medical wishes to JtC et al.

I went to the church dinner, had stuffed pepper, potatos, coleslaw.
I go to the library later, get on the bus and the driver has a pizza box there; gives me the last 2 pieces!

MY company had the fire alarm, sprinkler and extinguisher contract for the housing authority subsidized housing towers. The all had constant issues with the trash chutes and I could smell them quite a way down the corridor. Maintenance and basic cleaning almost never happened. Once there was a dead body discovered in an emergency stairwell.

I have horror stories about my service calls to these places. I never went into one unarmed. I also never sat down on any furniture and wore disposable booties to avoid the bed bug infestations.

And a good evening to all. Gym time was spent and garbage is still in place at the curb, am adding bits and pieces to it this evening so it’s not sitting around for another week. Shopping list is about done, trying to manage it so I run out of most stuff around the 15th on June before I leave on vacation. Might have to do a little over-consumption…will likely wake up tomorrow to rain showers, but today has remained dry, albeit quite cloudy.

Did get my foreign exchange from the bank today, they had told me it would most likely be Tuesday, so guess it was on hand. 100 pounds and 110 Euros, have put them with the other "Don’t forget stuff’.

Scrollin’, scrollin’, scrollin’, though the boards are swollen, keep those messages rollin’…

Pilot, I do envy one thing about your location, the number and frequency of cruises leaving from there. I’d be hard-pressed to not get on board as often as I could afford it (of course, I don’t have GF to attend too..).

Coppertone, sorry the (Not Our Shoe) wasn’t wearable. But score! on the free pizza!

Taters, it appears you cannot be trusted around a plant nursery…
You are quite the plant person, I tend to be one of those people that plants die from hopelessness if I buy them…

FCM, glad you have a house-sitter, my neighbor keeps an eye on the place when I take off, never had a problem…yet… And peeking through one of my cabinets I found my hamburger press that I haven’t used in a couple of years.

I rather think you provided the answer to your own question. Never had a trash chute in any place I lived, to the best of my remembrance.

I understood that reference (even if you were not making a reference, I do know a character with that name…)

JtC, best wishes for tomorrow.

rocky, that’s quite an assortment of items down the chute.

Oopsie, that’s a beautiful typewriter! And hope your toe recovers quickly. Best wishes to the nephew in all but name and his GF, first moves and apartment can be a little…hectic, glad you and parents are being so supportive.

As for the lost box, I was the Quality Assurance person for about a year, mostly taking reports from people who had lost/missing items. Worst one we ever had was a couple containers full of furniture of military families coming back from Germany got washed off the ship…we know where there stuff is, it’s 12000’ under the Atlantic Ocean…

My one memory about typewriters was from taking a typing class in 7th grade; the teacher (her name is lost to the mists of time) always ended the class by saying the same thing “roll your carriages, take your papers out of the machine”. 60+ years and I can still hear that voice…

Hippie, that would intimidate me, impressed you had the cojones to do it (and were prepared for anything going sideways).

And it’s 8pm so will leave you all for a bit to browse elsewhere on the internet, so have a good evening all.

The spellcheck is clearly not a Mumper team player~their loss.

Up from naptime. Making some French(ish) style chicken, wild rice, and green beans. And a Royal Hawaiian for cocktails. Spot is sleeping off his afternoon zoomies.

That was the reference I was making.

I remember that from typing class(Olympia and Olivetti machines!)

Howdy Y’all! RDOS inactivities did indeed rule the day. It took a lot of effort to leave da cave and go to the church house. I persevered however. The service was good and I was back in da cave around seven-thirty. I needed some Netflix, chill and popcorn time.

MOOOOOOM your talk of rotisserie chikin has given me a gnawin’ and a cravin’. Methinks a trip to Food Kitty may be in store maybe tomorrow. They do have good ones.

Flyboy hope the colonoscopy goes well. I think I am due for one next year.

JtC hope the eye surgery goes well. Everyone one I know that has had it done says it’s worth it.

doggio Moveable Feast would be a great food truck name. Could work for a rock band as well.
