I survived. Work apparently now has an updated “how to” for tornadoes, cuz those weren’t a thing here before.
I feel like I dragged Texas with me.
Sleeping on a concrete basement floor did not do happy things to my spine.
Towards the end of close tonight, we were almost finished, S.M. turned up “Pour some sugar on me” and I was grooooovin’ y’all.
Finally felt human for the first time in days. The weather is cool, I have A/C and the ability to cook food … I was happy!
Turned around, arms up, hips slithering … to see someone waiting at the window.
“Aw, SHIT!!”
He saw the whole thing, too, was dying laughing when I walked up. S.M. had much fun at my expense … especially when I came back and was like, “Oh, gawd, and he’s really cute too!!”
Yesterday was full of errands, and today is house stuff. Bought 4 little strawberry plants, so they need to be planted in the big planter. We investigated supports for the raspberry plants, but didn’t make any decisions. Probably should do something next weekend, before the canes get too big.
Bought ground beef to make hamburgers, but it would be really big hamburgers if I used it all, so I’m going to cook the rest of it with bacon for some future use. Found a recipe for cheeseburger macaroni (or something like that), which looks promising.
So I should go get started on today’s chores. Happy Sunday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 89 and mostly cloudy but no rain predicted. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I get to plop down in a pew. YAY! I like servin’ but every once in a while it’s nice to get to sit with OYKW and just church. We will get a Mcbreakfast before. Any need to feed the rest of the day will be via forage.
JtC the neighbors were not treated to a show as we have a privacy fence around the back yahd. I would not subject my neighbors to seein’ me nekkid. That would be cruel.
Now I need more caffeine and some pre-breakfast toast. Then purtification for deheathenization shall commence.
Going to pick up groceries at Walmart this morning. I’ve bribed MusicMan with breakfast at our local favorite restaurant so that he’ll come with me. Ok, he wouldn’t mind either way, but breakfast out sounds good.
In other news, because of the insurance that we have now, we’re getting prescriptions from Express Scripts. One of my meds now has been revisiting me through burpage and takes like cat pee smells. Yum!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/58f with a predicted high of 18c/65f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Some people might think the mild weather feels fucking great. I have no fucking idea, I’m probably inside.” Feels fine to me, I am inside and the house is nice and cool.
I hope you assumed a suitable position of woe for the duration?
I’m glad the grands had fun, and FCD stuffed himself with hot dogs I’m not sure I’d fancy any of that either, fruit would have been a good plan.
swampy pearls have been suitably clutched! How did the neighbours react?
Re-creating a typical night out in Glasgow city centre then?
This makes me happy too!
Yesterday afternoon went pretty much entirely to plan. We went into town for lunch and found the place we’d thought to go to was closed so we went to an Indian restaurant just up the street. The food is delicious, the service is slow and the waitress struggles with English but we managed to order what we wanted and left an hour later, happily stuffed full of yummy curry. We went our separate ways to do various errands, and met up a bit later in the Posada’s beer garden. It’s not much of a “garden”, they advertise it as a secret courtyard. It’s a small area at the back of the pub, and it backs onto a side street with an Irish pub opposite that’s pretty well-known for Saturday afternoon Paddyoke.
We left there and went across the road to the Lych Gate which also has an outside space, then decamped to the Giffard where the barman saw us come through the door and was already pulling pints for us! We stayed there for a while nattering to random strangers, then headed off to the Clarendon Hotel which is Marton’s brewery tap, then channelled shoe as we picked up a large pizza and a kebab from Turkish Delight and walked home.
Works out nicely, 'im indoors has the kebab and I have some pizza, then we split the remaining pizza for lunch on Sunday. It’s his birthday today, we have tickets for a gig tonight so will be heading out for that a bit later. Other than that, I have no plans for the day aside from feeding the cats, cleaning litter trays and fitting in some slothage in the afternoon.
HORNK!!!
And with that, I’m up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth.
Spot has eaten breakfast, uneaten breakfast, and eaten Second Breakfast, and is in the sunroom watching Jays Of Our Lives
Ewww.
Yay!
Sounds like the Irreg belt at the UPS building in Edinburgh.
Looks like we have a cool stretch ahead with no precip till Tuesday night. Today, we’ll go to the classic car show in Leonardtown, hoping to be done with it before the heat and the church crowds descend. Not a lot else planned.
I did motivate myself to empty and start refilling the dishwasher last night, elimination one chore for today - go me! Beyond that, what happens, happens. We’re all adventurous like that!
Thank you all for the well wishes. We had a lovely day, starting with a good workout at the gym. We went for bagels, and after that went to a couple of estate sales. We had a nice lunch at an up scale restaurant. Sunflower had ordered a small decorated cake and we picked it up an our way home. It was a nice dessert. We changed clothes and went to a charity event, a showing of The Shawshank Redemption on a big screen with The actor who played the warden as the guest speaker. This was a benefit for the local Parks and Recreation Dept.
It’s 48°F and partly cloudy. Later this morning, the skies will change to mostly cloudy, and the high temperature is expected to be around 62°F. Pretty blah weather, but okay.
It rained at various times yesterday, so I did not dig in the dirt, which would have been mud if I had tried. I need to mow my lawn, too, but it probably won’t happen today.
Instead, I busied myself with little mundane things in the house.
Shoe, I’m glad you were feeling a little more chipper and hope it continues.
Metal Mouse, I think it’s wonderful that you continue volunteering with the kids. I’m not sure I could do it.
FCM, I’m glad everyone had a good time at the outing.
Happy Birthday to 'im indoors, Boofae. Today is also the 45th anniversary of Mount Saint Helens blowing her top and causing calamity across the state. Her volcanic ash traveled around the world.
I was camping at a state park when she blew. Big pieces of ash were raining down upon us, and at first, I thought it was snow, which couldn’t be possible because it was May. I then realized it was ash, and just after that, the rangers ran through the park, telling everyone to evacuate.
I need to tidy the kitchen and then get in the shower. Since I didn’t want to wrestle with bags of soil yesterday, I need to do it today and pick up a few things from the grocery store.
Skinny dipping and a beerverage sound like a perfect post-mowing celebration.
Wishing 'im Indoors a happy birthday, BooFae!
I’m glad that you’re feeling human again, shoe.
Got Sis, BIL and the puppers off to Texas bright and early. They’re just getting into Arkansas about now. I did get a good pic of Nelson, his father Frankie and his brother-cousin Pugsley (with Sis, who prefers that her face not be in it). It’s amazing how both Nelson and Pugsley got to be bigger than either of their parents.
Morning all. Slept well and have acquired the Sunday NY Times. May do something different this Sunday (hey, I’m just a wild and crazy guy), may drive over to the other side of the city and try a place Called Cheeseburger Bobby’s and then see my first movie in a theater since Pre-Covid times (leaning toward Thunderbolts). Hey, sometime the same old thing needs shaking up… Getting to about 80F today with a 50-50 chance of rain tonight. So mowage this evening is still to be determined…
JtC, thanks for the kind words, but it is getting harder as I age, so maybe a couple more years. Still see some of them playing years after I coached them, so guess didn’t mess up to bad.
Pavo, sounds like fun was had. Tossing large objects while in sklrts is not my type of thing, but a swordfight melee sounds interesting…happy singing!
VanGo, be happy it is a small thing, and mowage when it comes will be…interesting.
shoe, great story and glad you are doing better…and it could have worse, it might have been Pat Benetars’ “I Love Rock and Roll” she was playing…and dammit, you deserve some fun now and then!
swampy, happy pew-plopping.
Sticky Buns, a big YUCK! on the medicine.
Had to look that up–would have been an interesting experience…but sounds like you had a great time of it Saturday. And Happy B-Day to 'im indoors!
FCM,enjoy the car show.
Hippie, that does sound like a perfect day, my best wishes to you and Sunflower for many more great days.
Taters, interesting story on Mount Saint Helen’s day; I was out there a couple years ago and drove up to see it but the road was socked in with fog so I couldn’t see 50 feet in front of me, so never did get a good look. One of these days…
red, saw the picture, it was a great group of canines there, safe passage for your family heading home.
Pilot, y’all be careful. And heal up quickly.
OK, need to get myself prepared for the sojourn over the hills and (not so) far away. Have a good Sunday all.
Well, that was a quick show. I don’t know if we were there even an hour. FCD had to stop and sit 4 times - his back was really bothering him. I need to check all the excursions I booked and see if I need to un-book any of them. I tried to stick with mostly bus trips with minimal walking. I did buy a collapsible stool that I’ll carry for him while we’re touring. But I fear he’ll soon be confined to a wheelchair or a scooter. Like his surgeon said, the spinal damage would only get worse, not better.
I never did see the hospice folks collecting at the show, so I’ll just send a donation at their website. I wish I could endow them with a buttload of money. Maybe if I hit the lottery (guess I’d need to buy a ticket tho, right?)
Shortly, I’ll get into grubbies and head out to chop up branches. The little chainsaw is amazing! Just a 6" bar but the battery is powerful and it easily cuts 3-4" diameter branches. I don’t think anything out there is bigger than that.
Got an email that our credit union is changing their website - just when I got it all figured out! You won’t believe what a fiasco it was trying to pay the Mastercard. And now I have to start again. First work problems and all that…
Well, we cancelled our concert yesterday and now the play today. The Ms doesn’t trust her balance yet, so it’s a smart move.
Sadie is all geared up for an exciting day:
Or not.
Fried egg sandwiches this morning, which are always a treat. I was going to go for a walk, but the hip troubles are plaguing me. I really need to set up an appointment.
The wife’s niece invited us for a Memorial Day BBQ. Her husband the Grill Sergeant makes the best ribs.
I hate it when companies do that. No, it’s not better, it’s just different and usually confusing. My Alaska CU changed their name to Global CU, which set off alarm bells in my suspicious brain. I’ve been draining off our assets there for some months now, transferring the cash to a local bank in case they go belly up.
For some reason I’ve been pegged as the go-to person for electronic problems here at Walking Dead Manor, which is pretty amusing. I suppose I am probably more tech savvy than many of the residents, some of whom (I’m not making this up) have trouble making a phone call. I had to try to explain to someone on Friday why another woman can get Max on her TV, but she can’t. Trying to explain that it’s not part of the subscription package and that one has to subscribe separately wouldn’t seem to be all that mystifying, but there it is.

Belated happy 50th anniversary, hippie!
Today’s weather is gorgeous: mostly sunny and currently 72°F with a light breeze, with a forecasted high of only 77. It’s definitely appreciated after yesterday’s mid-80s. My windows are open! We’re starting a cool spell, with highs in the low 60s to low 70s most of this week; we’re not supposed to see 80 again for almost two weeks. I’m good with this.
My BFFs and I made it to the outdoor arts festival yesterday morning! Yay! The weather was a bit windy but sunny and nice, though once it got to be mid-day it became pretty warm. I actually thought ahead and wore a hat, so the wind and sun didn’t really bother me, but I would have benefitted from having my sunbrella during and after lunch (we ate outside). I’ll try to remember to bring it next year.
I’d been looking for something to replace the aging canvas tote bag I use for my music-related stuff, and it’s perfect! It was a little pricey, but I love supporting independent artisans when I can and I know it’ll last a long time. I’m super happy with it – in terms of both form and function. My only other purchase was a pair of not-expensive earrings at another stall. I’ve definitely spent way more at this festival in the past.
We did a lot of walking, and I did some pushing of WifeBFF in her wheelchair, so once I got back home I was pretty tired and mostly slothed for the rest of the day/night…but I did make the tuna macaroni salad for dinner! When I bought the macaroni and mayo on Friday I didn’t get tuna, because I knew I already had some in the pantry, but I didn’t realize they were 2.5-oz packets vs the 5-oz packets I thought they were. Luckily I had three of them, but I usually use at least 10 oz of tuna so it’s a bit light in that area. All in all, though, it turned out great; I’m looking forward to having it again for lunch.
(JtC, when I talked about the prep time vs nuking a Lean Cuisine I didn’t mean to imply that I was somehow intimidated by the process or didn’t know how to multitask/use a timer: I only meant that planning 40 min ahead – vs eating something 2-5 min after deciding I want it – would need to be deliberate. ).
Partly inspired by Coppertone, on Friday afternoon I finally made a podiatrist appointment to get the nail on my right foot’s big toe removed (or at least looked at). It’s been in bad shape for a few years. I figured there wouldn’t be any openings for at least a month, but they had one the morning of Tues 05/27 and another the afternoon of Wed 05/28! I booked the Wednesday afternoon spot: that way, if the doc removes the nail during the visit (like I think she will) I’ll already be working from home on Thursday and Friday. I’ll have four days before I need to worry about wearing any kind of shoes, and if I still have enough soreness the following Monday I can always wear flip-flops to work and just give my boss a heads up. I still have the foot-soaking tub from when my left foot’s big toenail was removed four years ago, so I just need to pick up some epsom salts and large Band-Aids between now and then. I’m fine with needles, blood, etc., but I’m a big wuss about anticipated pain – even though I’ve been through it before and know what to expect, and that it really won’t hurt much at all. I know I’ll be really glad to have the removal over with, though.
I’ve previously mentioned that my next Lego set will be the Sherlock Holmes Book Nook, which I pre-ordered a few weeks ago and releases on 06/01: today I discovered that there’s also a Hogwarts Express Book Nook releasing on the same day! I just pre-ordered that one, as well. It’ll be my first Harry Potter set: I’ve been putting off starting to buy any of those until I move to a house with more display space, but something that fits neatly on a bookshelf is perfect. I figure I’ll display it and the Sherlock Holmes set next to each other.
Our Credit Union in FL had a big fiasco a few years back. They decided to completely redo their website which led to literally weeks of problems with access and functions and all sorts of BS. Word got around (I don’t know how accurate) that the management of the website was turned over to a nephew (or something) of the chairman of the board. I don’t know how many people took their money and ran, but we hung with them - we’ve had our account there since 1983. It finally settled down and while some things aren’t as intuitive as they could be, I’ve got it figured out.
It’s the local CU that’s changing things up - I hope it’s not a repeat fiasco, because it would affect us and BIL since his account is there. It’s scheduled for June 17 - just 9 days before we leave. Fingers crossed.
I just finished cutting up big branches and flanging smaller ones into the woods. My firewood pile is impressive - at least to me. And as a grand finale, I mowed front and back. I didn’t bother with the side along the road, just because. Definitely chillage time.
I’m way behind on my MuMPing. Probably, by now several posters have gotten VanGo’s comment about Brian Setzer and the Stray Cats.
FCMom, like your truck, our hybrid rarely uses its gas motor, so the yearly oil change is as much ceremonial as anything. My evil dad used to live near the enormous Sunshine Skyway bridge. He said a small group of people down there make a comfortable living driving the fearful across the big bridge while the car owners cower in the back seat. How do they work that out? He didn’t explain that part.
I’m a bit cranky now. Randomly about an hour ago I stood up and started having trouble walking with my same old leg. The only way that I can figure to describe it is that there’s a pain in my right lower cheek when I walk. I don’t get it. I mean, it’s not like it’s my hip. Grrr.
