I’m off to look for a new phone today. CatGlove, after what you said about people trading in phones just because the ports are dirty, I feel vaguely guilty. It’s still working, but it’s getting a little squirrely here and there - occasionally restarting for no apparent reason, not holding a charge, getting very warm - and it often just won’t charge at all. Normally, I’d nurse it along to its inevitable catastrophic end, but it would be very like it to give out when I’m in Nowhere, OK trying to look up a hotel in Kansas. My last phone bricked during Week 3 of the Covid shutdowns, so this one is 5 years old now.
Speaking of husbands and test results, Mr. L also got good news at the last oncologist visit. His PSA level had been rising steadily since July, which could be a sign that his drug regime was losing effectiveness and the cancer getting active again, but this time it hadn’t gone up! It will, eventually, but the longer he put off the next steps, the better, and I’ll be a lot less worried about leaving him for a month.
I hope Sadie does all right at the vet, cookie. It’s really amazing how cats just know when you’re plotting to put them in a carrier.
It’s supposed to get to 72° today, and I did nothing in the yard yesterday, so I really should get out there and clean up. I left all the dead vegetation where it was last fall to provide shelter for all the creepy-crawlies, and I know there’s likely to be at least one more hard freeze before actual spring, but I don’t want to leave yet another task for my daughter to do while I’m gone. Our next-door neighbor started a lawn care business and dropped off a business card a couple of weeks ago, but I’m a little conflicted about hiring someone so close. We can see into each other’s back yards, and my idea of a perfect garden is much more chaotic than theirs, so I’m afraid he’d just mow it all down. It’s good for me to get outdoors and do some physical labor anyway. I just can’t do more than an hour or two of heavy work nowadays, so I really need to get out there for a little while every day in order to get it done.
Is this working? I tried posting twice this morning.
She’s a contractor working on a gummint contract. so I suppose it’s whether the contract gets cut or not. I don’t know what she does.
We would take our mower at the end of leaf mulch/vac season because it would take several months, and in the spring it would take stoopit long to get it back. But with our new machine and service contract, they come to us, so yay!
No clue why I couldn’t post this morning, either on my PC or my phone. Anyway, we’re back from the boat, having cleared some detritus from the engine room. Next, FCD will remove the old fuel lines and tidy up some wiring. Then we’ll clean the area where the tanks will go. It’ll be spray and wipe - we don’t intend to hose it down and deal with oily mess thru the bilge pump.
Not sure what I’ll do the rest of today, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.
TPTB think they don’t need a clerk on Preload, but WTF was gonna do 2 pallets of exceptions from last night?
0800: 3 package: < customer not in after 3 attempts, return to sender >
0945: Falls dispatch lady: “Do you know where theres 3 packages are? the customer wants to pick them up.”(apparently it takes some people 5 days to perform a self-craniumectomy from their gluteus).
First time using a Microsoft product?
Dust. Alphabetize your spices. Polish a 2 meter sphere of Unobtanium.
If I ever retire I’d probably join them. That and follow up on my calls/emails with Interpretive Dance translations on their office doorstep.
And just reporting in that typing things here apparently is a lot like a list and I always try to complete a list. So the mower is in for it’s tuneup (they say a week/10 days so i beat the big rush). Then came home and spent 45 minutes cleaning my kitchen and putting stuff in other places. Still need to mop the floor, but resting now because of all the energy I used… Gym is still in the plan.
Cookie, hope Sadie is easy to corral.
Cat Glove, I was addicted to minesweeper when I was a working stiff, but haven’t played it in many years. Now it’s Spider Solitare (two suits) and I do pretty well with that, it at least keeps my brain moderately active.
That is what I thought, but it doesn’t ache when I’m up or doing things, only when I am prone and on my right side. It is a puzzlement.
Legend, that is good news for Mr. L. Hope the numbers stay steady for awhile.
Ground Control to Major Mom. Ground Control to Major Mom…
OK, floor ain’t getting mopped with me typing here. Have a good afternoon all.
Breakfast out, then building meeting. Only an hour and ten minutes!
Most of it was rearranging the lobby pictures. The new display case arrived last week and about 5 pictures needed to move to the other side of the lobby. At the meeting on Thursday some of the pictures were numbered but not all. 2 were being moved to a different part of the lobby.
Luckily, the pictures are on a rail system so they are easier to move than nails in a wall. Also luckily the walls are wood paneled and have lines that are 16 inches apart. It makes it really easy to line up.
The pictures are sketches and elevations of what was proposed between 1930 and 1932. These were the “I have a real estate dream” years. They are now all in one part of the lobby.
The next section with the display case will be what was actually built. The 30+ story monumental building became a buildable g-12 story building. Starting in 1938 and opening in 1940.
In the retail corridor will be maps and pictures of when the site was part of Baldwin locomotive. We were the turntable!
Slowly but surely pictures will happen on the residential floors.
I know I could have, but it just makes me feel so awkward - like I’m eating while “the help” takes care of things.
So it’s funny - you’ve talked about Arby’s so much the last couple of days that I went through their drive through a minute ago and now I’m eating a roast beef sandwich while perusing the thread. And given your high marks for the burger, I might have to break down and try it myself (although I forgot to look to see if the hamburger is even on the menu here). Also, maybe mention that pain to your doctor since it’s only when you’re laying down, given your recent health issues.
The handyman was here until almost 8:30 last night. I finally had a glass of wine around 7:30 so I could at least pretend I was getting to relax and that I was not at all peeved about having a strange man in my house at night.
He fixed two of 3 issues, but not the laundry room drain pipe. He couldn’t get it to back up, and the washing machine was emptying like normal. He thinks the pipe doesn’t have a vent pipe attached and if air couldn’t get in it might have created some sort of vacuum. If it happens again and I can definitively rule out the washing machine as being at fault, he would recommend looking into installing a vent pipe but acted like that would be difficult/messy/$$. So hopefully no more to come on that and it just works.
Well that’s the end of my lunch break and my Arby’s meal. Back to the office I go…
Apparently my having lost weight has become a nuisance for Annie. It appears that my lap is not nearly as comfortable as it used to be. Imagine when I really start dropping the pounds, I’ll have to bribe her!
Today has been very blah. I’ve been tired, weak, and nauseous. Not much work has been completed here. I can say that I did my best, though.
I leave early on commuting days so that I can get home by six or six-thirty. The time is more than made up for, because I work longer when I telecommute. So getting in early means less time I have to make up. Now I’m a clock-watcher. I clocked in at 07:15 this morning.
Got Sadie to the vet without issue, and she got a clean bill of health. The runny eye is likely due to a bout with herpes from the shelter. Got her nails clipped, also without issue. I think she may be part ragdoll cat, as she is very pliable once picked up.
Hurray for his good news as well. It’s great he’s well enough to trust alone for a month.
I want to do a little container gardening this year and was looking at suitable plants. I was very entertained to find the Mortgage Lifter Tomato which was developed in Logan by one Marshall Cletis Byles, aka Radiator Charlie.
We don’t really like beefsteak tomatoes, usually I grow Romas and some sort of cherry, but I figure that a tomato developed ten miles down the road would probably be best suited for the local climate. Everything I do this year will be a new experience, gardening in the desert is probably much different than gardening somewhere where magical sky water falls on a regular basis.
Well go you! Aren’t you happier now that things are more settled? I know I always am.
Oh my, such excitement, you certainly do deserve some ice cream and a little lay down
I also have issues with it, it just seems so rude. I’ve offered to make a plate for them but it has always been refused.
I am so sorry. Have you been sure to stay hydrated? I’m sure a nice hot bowl of chicken soup would be helpful. Or warm if your BMS gets triggered by heat.
Got it. That’s why I was confused, I know that you are not giving them extra time anymore. Thanks for explaining.
Oh good girl!
Our VBC had herpes as well. We mixed pro-biotics into her food that seemed to help the goopy eyes. I could always tell when she was feeling a little stressed because her eyes would start getting goopy again. Cats don’t like the cold, that could have been the issue.

Is it really only Tuesday?? *sigh* At least it’s 64°F out there…overcast, but still in the 60s! I plan to take the doggy for a walk in a bit, while it’s still light out.
I’ll probably finish the Lego TIE interceptor this evening. I’m down to the wings: there are 4 of them, and I have 1.5 left to go. Then will come deciding where to display it. It’s kind of big, and I’ve had a spot in mind (a top “Lego Corner” shelf), but now I’m wondering if it might fit on a different shelf. I could look up the measurements and do some actual planning, but I’ll just decide after it’s done and I see where it fits/looks best (and how I want to shuffle the other sets around).
I have often said that if I’m ever diagnosed with Multiple Personality Syndrome, one of my personalities will definitely be an 11-year-old boy.
You get me…you really get me!
That sounds great to me!
I will be holding my breath…so you better get your tech back soon!
Right now there’s no “probably” for us, either. Fed staff and budgets are being slashed, contracts are being canceled, etc. I mentioned that my program will be implementing a layoff next month; that’s at our customer’s direction. Federal employees are definitely bearing the brunt of all of this, but the fate of the federal contracting industry will go hand-in-hand.
When I let my thoughts wander, I get nervous/stressed. My contract currently ends in two months: our customer says he expects us to get an extension, but if the agency winds up experiencing serious enough cuts the program’s fate could be out of his hands…and if it ever comes to that, it’ll mean that fed contracting jobs in general will be much harder to come by. And, if there’s much less contracting work due to there being far fewer contracts, there won’t be as much proposal work, either – so, it won’t be easy to just go back to business development (my previous career, which I don’t want to return to but always could have in a pinch). My entire industry could shrink significantly; I could wind up a little screwed. But I’m primarily in “one day at a time” mode, at least for the time being.
One of the dumber “upgrades” in Windows 11, to be sure!
A tip: if you ever can’t find an option that used to be in the right-click menu, do a right-click and select “Show More Options” (at the bottom). That brings up the old menu.
Update on BIL situation ahead. If you’re tired of hearing about his drama, go get a cup of coffee and a donut and I’ll let you know when it’s safe…
He’s gotten a reprieve on the eviction since they’re working on getting him in a group home. And his new care group has taken away all his meds. Someone will come daily to dispense them. So we know he’ll be taking what he should and he won’t have anything to “OD” on when he decided he needs some suicide drama.
I’m thinking daily contact with someone will make a difference also. Some think his “suicide” attempts are a combination of anxiety and loneliness. So we shall see. The big question now is how soon can they find a place for him. Secondarily - what of his stuff can/can’t he take. I’m guessing the fish tanks will be a no-no, but I could be wrong. Anyway, he seems to have calmed a bit and it’s surely easier on FCD. So WHEW!.
OK, it’s safe to come back!
I got the poke started later than I should have, so supper will be later than I’d want it to be. Oh well. We’ll have leftover veggies and I’ll boil a couple of spuds - mostly quick and easy.
I’ve got an eye exam first thing tomorrow, after which I’ll take my sewing machine to Waldorf and see what the deal is. I’ll also try to finish up the ETA applications for me and for FCD. The app was giving me all kinds of grief so I’ll do it on line instead. I need to scan a few things, but here’s hoping it goes a lot smoother. I’ll also call VISA before I start so they don’t deny the charges since it’s from England. Theoretically, I can get both done in an hour.
Other than futzing on the boat this morning, it’s been a lazy day. I have yet to empty the dishwasher, but it’ll get done before supper. No, really!
MrsIL that’s great that Mr L received good news at his oncologist visit!
Well, it’s a roller coaster world.
Had a great walk to work and home from work. Most of the snow is melted but the depressed sidewalk flags are full of pooling water. So, I had to walk in the street part of the time.
Hubs just threw up. He doesn’t feel nauseated but has pain on the right side of his abdomen. He asked for some tea.
Well, the dishwasher got itself cleaned without anything extraordinary happening. We watched a spring training MLBaseball game today, the St. Louis Cardinals vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. The announcers tried various ways to pronounce Rajcic. They’ll get it figured out by opening day. They might even ask the player how he says it.
It’s 52F outside, and actually sunny. I might go for a walk, maybe.
Back when I had pets, I could never get them to wear shorts.
I’ll talk to you later.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. We did nappage and day drinkin’. Then we et an early sup. Thus has it been in swampland. Time for some Netflix, chill and popcorn, though it might be N.O.T. chips instead cause I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’.
My new to me car has been somewhat troublesome in the first week I’ve had it. First day, first trip anywhere with it, all kinds of alarms and stuff going off. I knew it had been sitting for a while, and got a new motor, so I figured the computers need a little time to sort themselves out. Parked, did some irk, went to start it up to go to a different spot, nothing, not even a click. Got a jump from AAA and went back to the shop I bought it from, they put in a new battery.
Yesterday, a coolant line sprung a leak and the thing over heated. Once again AAA to the rescue. (I swear I have used them more over the past 4 months than any time before.) Towed back to the shop. My friend who runs the shop loaned me a car for the night. Got the car back at 4 today. So far, so good, but it does need a new support bracket for the tailpipe.
Oh, and I had to get a new windshield. But, hey, cheap car and I need a wheels. And he’s doing these fixes on his dime. Well not the windshield.
