It’s a good thing FCD is cute. He called me while out erranding to tell my about a car that crashed thru a garage. He describe it as “just past < middle school >, you know, the place with the 4-bay garage? It’s brick.”
Well, I passed the place on my way to Food Lion. It’s actually just past < elementary school > and it’s a 3-bay garage. But it is brick, so he got that right. Sometimes, I wonder how his mind works.
At times he reminds me of his dad who would start telling us something, the go off on an unrelated tangent, then say “That doesn’t matter” and get back to the original story. FCD is starting to do that. I hope it’s not an indication of impending dementia.
Anyway, back from a quick Food Lion excursion. It smells like it wants to rain and weather radar indicates it could arrive within an hour, so I’m not sure if I want to pull out the rake and my garden gloves. Maybe I’ll put it off again.
Good morning all. I’m just sitting here sipping coffee and wondering if I’m going to do anything today. So far, the vote has been a resounding NO! My hip is really achy today and I’m kinda tired of being around people. I need to recharge.
Last night was/wasn’t helpful, GG stretched out against my hip and back while Jolene curled up in front of me and purred. That meant I didn’t move all night long and I could really feel it this morning.
I finished up the first batch of cottage cheese this morning and can tell that it is over rennetted. The curds have a crumbly texture IMHO. Hubs says he can’t really tell but he can tell that it is firmer than I usually make. This is not unexpected, I used four times the recommend amount of rennet because cottage cheese shouldn’t take 20 hours to make.
I started some cultured buttermilk which is also very slow. Almost everything I do anymore has a learning curve. This is good, learning and adapting keeps the brain wrinkled.
The second batch of cottage cheese is still in the vat, I’ll start heating it about 1300 and hope I get something better this time.
I ordered the liquid rennet from the guy I’ve used since I started making cheese and I’m wondering if his location (Ontario Canada - his milk comes in bags!) is what is causing the shipping issue. I hope it’s not stuck in customs, he ships with ice packs but those won’t last forever.
Well, the sausage raven is at the french doors so its time to go and visit with Harry. TTYL
FWIW, I’m still having bouts of it, but the Mounjaro is sitting better than the Ozempic did. For example, I can read about people eating hsmburgers without becoming nauseated.
Maybe I’m an evil pet person, but never has any dog or cat in my bed been allowed control. When it was Higgs, she got skooched out of the way if she cramped me. When Taz planted himself between my feet, his butt got moved so I could sleep as I wanted. And eventually, we locked the critters out of our room at night.
Now there’s just Ziva and she’s never indicated that she wants to share our bed - just the underside. I’ve never mistreated any of our pets, but I’ve never yielded to them at the expense of my comfort and/or preferences.
FCD said it was drizzly as he came home, so my choice not to rake was the right one. Even if I don’t see any rain at the moment, I stand by my decision, dammit! Goodness knows, I shouldn’t be out in the rain, delicate li’l me…
when looking for a new couch the main thing was “can lager lay next to me without us falling off” and “will koritza be able to be comfortable on the back”.
i have been in very contortionist positions due to not wanting to disturb the cats.
Oh, that is so wonderful. Please give them a hug and some scritches from me.
WELL, I had hoped we had hit the bottom of the roller coaster when the ER said they found nada. Hubs finally got up sometime between noon and 1pm, closer to 1pm. He said the pain had returned. He called his PCP. They’re thinking that it is his intestines and he was put on a clear, mostly liquid diet, no citrus or anything that could aggravate.
I was pretty much a zombie yesterday. The bright spot was watching the Spartans vs the turtles, well Tortoises. It was back & forth, with MD up by 2 at the half. Spartans took the lead in the 2nd extending it to 9 several times. The Tortoises valiantly fought back and tied it in the last minute. With 7 seconds left, the Tortoises rebounded a Jaxon Kohler (aka Kohler Bear) miss and raced down the court and heaved a shot from about 3 ft beyond the 3 point line. It clanked the front of the iron and landed quickly in Kohler Bear’s hands and he quickly passed it to Tre Holloman who raced down the court and was way behind half court when he noticed that the shot clock was down to just below 1 second remaining when he launched a rocket shot toward the hoop. The tenths of a second wound down, the clock hit 0.00 then the ball went through the basket AND THE SPARTANS WON!!! (what matters is that the ball left the shooters hand before the clock hit 0.00). A number of surrender cobras were seen from the MD team and fans.
it is international polar bear day! i went to churchill years ago to see them up close and personal. on our last day one bear came right up to the buggy and looked in the windows. my window! i took a picture.
as it was in the days of yore and no photo phones, i used a disposable camera to take the picture.
got the camera developed, and the bear blinked. i have a great picture of a bear with his eyes closed.

We had Peak level volume today. And for the second week in a row the sort aisle was filled with people who couldn’t pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom of the heel. They sent over a thousand unscanned boxes to Red, and the pickoff couldn’t shovel them to the Mez, so they went to the DELV trailer. So instead of doing my 3 jobs, I was dragging giant wobbly carts full of missorts to the belts elsewhere in the building. Then I told the one sup how bad it was, and the 100 went to Hell, so I got sent back, then pulled at the end to try to scan hundreds of missorts from there and Blue 128, which didn’t go out mostly. I’m glad I’m not in charge, because The Supreme Shouting Officer is about ready to roast half the building in the depths of a Sloar. Anyways, it’s an 0200 start now. I almost got T-boned on the way home by a blue Elantra coming from a side street, despite being in the middle of a traffic pack. At least I got my Senior Day shopping done. I wonder if the next time Cinco De Mayo is on a Thursday I’ll get a Seniór Discount?
I think you married Grandpa Simpson.
Maggie Wonderbeagle would origami me onto the pillow so she could have 90% of the bed, but everyone else just spoons and grumbles when I move.
Savoring the idea of a rocking_chair sandwich and a cold Coca-Cola, no doubt.
It’s going to be a beautiful day today - sunny and a high of 70F/21C. I’m so tempted to open the windows (which would also greatly please the feline overlords) but the news says cedar pollen is high. Which explains my stuffy sinuses over the last few days, and I don’t want to make it worse. But I don’t think I can pass up the opportunity to enjoy the nice weather…
The next few days/weeks will be a nice lull at work before things shift back into high gear until mid-May. I’m tossing around the idea of taking a few days off and going on a little one or two day trip. Work announced a nice little bonus is coming in March, so that’s even more incentive to get away for a bit.
FCM the fuzzbutts are not to be disturbed until muscle cramps or incontinence is imminent.
cat glove I hope the clear diet helps with his pain and it clears up quickly. Intestinal issues are no fun.
It’s the afternoon now and I have done nothing except computerize and have lunch (cheese dogs). I will make a move to get up and go to the gym here in a bit, the temperature is about 66F and bright so I guess I should get out at least for a little bit. But feeling rather slothful today, I’m afraid.
JtC, know how you feel. ‘Recharging’ could pretty much describe my morning. Hoping for the best with the cottage cheese.
Cat glove, a long-distance last-second shot is always the most exciting play in basketball. Closest I ever came to wrecking my car was listening to the radio in Ohio a good 40+ years ago when Boggy “Bingo” Smith hit a 40-footer to win the Cleveland Cavaliers first playoff game in history. When the announcer (Joe Tait) screamed “BINGO” when he hit the shot I damn near drove off the road. Amazing what we have tucked in our memories…
rocky, never got that close to a Polar Bear outside of a zoo, need to add that to my bucket list.
doggio, it rather amazes me that anything ever gets delivered…and glad you didn’t end up a steak due to a bad driver.
52, short trips (or 3-5 day one is bunched around a weekend) are nice as long as you have some sort of plan and something you want to see/do. I’d say go for it.
And that’s enough energy expended. Will get the dishes back to the dishwasher and find some gym stuff to go walking and pedaling in. Take care all.
As a rule, I don’t care for fish; however, when we went to a spring league baseball game between the 2 Pennsylvania teams about 15 years ago in Bradenton, the only food that didn’t seem yuck were fish tacos. So, I bought several and brought them back to Hubs and had one. It was delicious!
metal mouse Yay for no pain on your right side!
blueberries?
The liquid diet is helping. Hubs does not have pain today and hasn’t vomited or had any diahrea.

The mobile dog groomer just arrived – to give Bailey a much-needed bath – so it seems like a good time to take a break from work, eat some lunch, and Mump.
Speaking of work: with the latest executive order, federal contractors are now almost as screwed as federal employees. For a bunch of reasons, on my particular program the spectre of a furlough suddenly appeared this morning…and, it could start in as little as two weeks (right before annual merit increases will be effective ). There’s also now the chance of my contract being cancelled outright. This kind of stress exacerbates both my overeating issues and homebody tendencies, but I’m really trying to stay in “one day at a time” mode and not freak out prematurely. I know that my company will do whatever it can for us, plus a lot can change in two weeks; if the worst happens, I can be upset/grieve then. But man is it getting harder to stay positive…
Moving on!
I went to the grocery store this morning because I wanted to have cash for tipping the groomer, and I picked up some chicken caesar pinwheels for lunch. Normally they come in a pack of four, but there are six in this container: I just ate three of them, and I’ll eat the rest later (and now I have room for some potato chips!). Having dinner sorted already is making me disproportionately happy.
It’s 1pm, and the groomer just finished with Bailey: it’ll be hard for y’all to tell, but she’s so fluffy!
I’m frankly amazed that she stood still long enough for this picture. Now she’s lying in her dog bed, next to my desk, and she’ll sleep hard for the rest of the afternoon…which is fine with me, because before the groomer arrived she actually ate her breakfast and her meds. She’s earned some RDOS-level nappage.
I’m also a good touch typist, and am likewise terrible with virtual keyboards! I’m horrible at texting on my phone: I never got the hang of the “thumb typing” method, so I hunt and peck with one finger. Painfully slow, and prone to mistakes. I’m a big fan of peripheral keyboards: I use a magic keyboard with my iPad Pro*, and my Android phone allows me to use Google Messages to get/send texts in a web browser (even on my iPad).
*I also have an iPad Air, but it’s strictly for watching The Big Bang Theory in bed or viewing build instructions for Lego sets. I hardly ever type on it.
For me, my teeth will be sore for the rest of the day. I try to schedule my appointments for the mornings, so (a) they aren’t running too far behind and (b) I can eat afterwards, but then I need Tylenol until I go to bed. And it’s not like I have that much buildup between cleanings!
It’s been 40 years since I lived in the UK, but back then the driving test was quite hard to pass: it wasn’t unusual for people to drive around with a red “L” for years. Is that still the case?
And I think it was super kind of you to even consider driving hours as sick as you are. Thank you!
Have you talked to your doctor about MMJ? I have heard that it can sometimes help with nausea. It might help even if all it does is make you not care so much.
I was just thinking that very same thing. I used to keep a box in my desk for a quick warm pick-me-up in the afternoons during the winter. (Not that seasons really matter in cube farms, it was cold year round)
Maybe they could lend you a little fold up wagon to pull your things with your good arm instead of carrying them? Might help?
You are a very good husband and I strongly suspect you aren’t nearly as much of a curmudgeon as you like to think you are. I’m glad you are feeling better!
Our heater has actually been shutting off during the day, which will make our checkbook happy too.
Our realtor told us that she could always tell the cat people by their reactions to the deep windowsills many homes have. Our narrow windowsills give me a tiny bit of buyers remorse but I’ve put scratchers and what not under them for the cats so I guess that’s OK.
WORRIED!!!
I so hope he doesn’t go backwards, he’s come so far and you both have worked so hard.
I will not be using rennet tablets again. I will put them in the back of the pantry and then throw them out when they expire. No I cannot throw them out now, they are perfectly good and I might need them!!!
I pitched the first batch but seem to have almost the same results while following the recipe. I’m letting it rest in the fridge overnight but I don’t have a lot of hope.
I checked the status of my rennet order and as suspected, it is stuck in customs. I emailed the seller and told him to just let it go. I don’t need or want a refund, this is not his fault and I know who to blame.
It is a one person business, I hope the current bullshit doesn’t hurt him too much. I’ve ordered another bottle of LIQUID rennet elsewhere but will go back to him if and when it is possible.
People are waking up. It is probably too little, too late, but people are starting to take notice.
Please tell Bailey how beautiful she looks while giving her some ear rubs.
Me too! Mom just bangs texts out like a teenager while I’m trying to figure out how to make a # sign.
Yanno…once I retired I realized how much I really liked not having to talk to people. I didn’t really start helping with the gleening program because I wanted to make a difference, I did it because it was forcing me to get out and talk to people. I thought it was good for me. (I keep telling people that everything I do is self serving.)
Tai Chi made me feel good and I wanted TC friend to continue so I got involved and invited people and brought snacks.
Now that I’m not forcing myself to go out and do things with people, it just keeps getting harder to go out so my three days a week with other upset and scared people is hitting me harder than it would have while I was working. I spend my days with upset and scared people back then, its different now.
We took Mom to Bearazonia one year and a big horn sheep came to her window and started posing for a picture. We admired and she suddenly thought to take a pic so found her phone and got a great shot of a big horn sheep butt! That was my favorite memory of that trip
So I should have figured out that Ralphie the Raven was Harry’s friend. Harry spends most of his waking hours not in the house, so he has a dinner bell hanging outside his front door so he can hear folks from the south fourty.
Raven was flap-hop following me and the hotdog in my hand until we got half way across the gulch and then took off, flew straight to the bell and started giving it hell. I had heard the bell clanging like a toddler was at it before and thought it was his great-grands. Nope, it was the Raven wanting his plate of scraps. My lame-ass hot dogs had nothing on leftover toast and eggs!
Howdy Y’all! Shrove Tuesday stuff got bought and stored in da fridge and pantry. There are big signs on the stuff that read “For Shrove Tuesday Only” cause Sunday is brunch Sunday so I am tellin’ folks not to touch the pancake stuff. They don’t want to make me get my Verger stick. We went to the hog trough GC at two o’ clock cause between one and three in the afternoon we get the geezer discount plus drink. Thus we got well fed. Netflix and chill is on deck, but no popcorn probably cause we be stuffded.
I am so sorry I hope you get news quickly and don’t have to spend two weeks tying yourself up into knots, and I hope it’s good news as well. As JtC said, people are finally starting to notice and there are louder and louder rumblings from upset people.
Also, Bailey is adorable and has the sweetest face!
I mean, they don’t sound like they’re “perfectly good” if they’re producing a noticeably inferior product…
I couldn’t stand to let a beautiful day go to waste and opened the windows. My eyes are already itching and watering, but some things are worth a little self-inflicted misery, damnit!
I have the same problem, plus feeling like I’m about to drop my phone if I’m trying the “two thumbs” input style. When I’m at home, I can use Phone Link on my laptop to send/receive texts that way, which gives me the laptop keyboard to work with. Major improvement over the on-screen “keyboard”.
