Omnibus College Football Thread 2021-22

Ok great to know

Why must my Longhorns torment me so…sigh.

Shit it’s Wild Turkey time for Sark.

Well now. #1 Bama goes down.

Georgia #1 next week.

Iowa #2, I assume. Cincy #3 and OU #4?

That Alabama upset makes the whole week worth it.

Bama…Wilder…it was a bad evening in Alabama.

Not to worry, Alabama will be back to #1 after they courageously slaughter New Mexico State in November. They could fall as far as #2 this week.

As much as the playoff committee would love to award all four slots to the SEC, they’ll probably begrudgingly give a spot to the Big Ten champion.

Nebraska has to be the best 4 loss team in the country. They can’t catch a break late in games. I’m really impressed by Martinez at QB.

My Spartans opened for some big plays against Rutgers, a 94 yard run, three TD passes >60 yds. I was surprised that the 94 yd run was their longest in history, I would have thought in all these years that someone would have gone 99 yds. I wonder which school has the shortest record for longest plays from scrimmage.

The question is, how far does Alabama fall? They didn’t just lose, they lost to an unranked team. The Aggies will probably be ranked after this weekend, but still just barely back in the top 25. Fortunately for Bama the Aggies and Razorbacks already have two division losses but now the contests with Arkansas and Auburn are crucial.

My numbers 1-4 are:

  1. Georgia
  2. Iowa
  3. Cincinnati
  4. Ohio State

Unfortunately, I expect OU to get that 4 spot, which is ridiculous considering how they barely survived Texas. It’s just more of the same Big12 football: look impressive scoring 50 or 60 points against conference opponents and struggle to put up 20 against champions from other conferences.

Poor Alabama. Wait for the silver lining at the end.

Alabama vs OU. What do you think happens? lol

No idea, that’s why they play the games.

Alabama vs Texas A&M. What do you think happens?

Hell, LSU vs. UCONN might be a toss up at this point.

Yeah cute. I’m sayin, what happens when you put the top team of the SEC or Big 10 against the top team of the Big 12. Let’s get out the ole bag of popcorn and watch.

In the college playoff, the SEC, which has had three teams in the playoffs, is 10-3 (.769 win percentage). The only other conference with a record above .500 is the ACC, owing to Clemson’s success. The Big 12 has never won a game – zero wins, four defeats (often by double digit margins). Non-conference teams (okay, Notre Dame) are also winless (also losing by double digit margins).

My bad. I thought you said Alabama and OU. Are you asking about them or some other team? It gets so confusing with all of the goalpost moving.

I don’t know anyone (except apparently you) who considers Alabama the top team of the SEC. I don’t even think it’s a given that OU is at the top of the Big 12, since it’s still early and there are other contenders, such as OSU.

I do believe that there is near universal agreement that LSU sucks ass, though.

Where did I say I considered Alabama the top team of the SEC?

Agree with you that LSU sucks ass – for now. The difference is, any coach out there who wants to make a name for himself knows that if they can go to Baton Rouge and recruit right for 2 or 3 years, he’ll be a national champion. LSU’s not even a dream destination for most up and coming coaches, and yet, 3 national titles since 2000 with three different coaches and only one of whom is really regarded as a good coach.

Are you getting confused like an LSU defensive lineman?

I guess they’ll be lining up for the gig. Just like last time they were looking.

LOL, I like the meme – nice one! I still say Alabama beats OU but if not Bama then easily any of the top 1 or 2 SEC teams. I’m not necessarily declaring SEC supremacy either – Big 10 is for real.

And don’t forget, the PAC 12 is solid, too, and far better than the Big 12. Why I heard that one of their teams even beat a Big 10 team and another one of their teams beat someone who was a national champion a few years ago. That must mean something, right?

And then there’s this…

You posted that two weeks ago. That aged well.

I don’t bet on sports, but if I ever do I’ll seek out your opinion on favorites, so I know which teams to bet against. You make Lee Corso look like the Amazing Kreskin.

The PAC-12 isn’t done, and I’d put a PAC-12 winner over a Big-12 team.

I am a predictor king. I am amazing. I photograph myself in the mirror.

I now you would. That’s why I said.

As an aside, some of my new favorites statistics from the composites:

  1. 70%

  2. 33%

  3. 100%

  4. 100%

  5. 60%

  6. 75%

  1. Percent of the Big 12 ranked ahead of shitty LSU.

  2. Percent of the Pac 12 ranked ahead of shitty LSU.

  3. Percent of teams named Stanford (and who lost to Kansas State) ranked ahead of shitty LSU.

  4. Percent of teams named Rutgers, Nebraska, TCU, Appalachian State, Boise State, Air Force, San Diego State, Tennessee, Wyoming, and Liberty (as well as 41 other unlisted teams) who rank ahead of shitty LSU.

  5. Percent of FBS teams that OU beat this year that rank above shitty LSU.

  6. Percent of FBS teams that Oklahoma State beat this year that rank above shitty LSU.

Actually, based on those last two numbers, I’m willing to concede that the Big 12 isn’t playing anyone.

Hey have fun – this is your year to mock LSU. Wait until we get a coach who can do something more than chug beer and munch on jambalaya – and oh by the way, he still accidentally won a national championship in spite of his incompetence. Have fun with it because we’re about to get a real coach and we’re gonna stomp the shit out of pretty much anyone not named Alabama.

Who’s your team, cupcake?
