Omnibus Religious Fucks in the NEWS

You want to see a body that’s definitely corrupting go to Lucas, Kansas. One dude had a mausoleum built in his front yard, and there’s a glass window for you to see him through. The one time I looked the glass was kind of smudged, but he looked pretty green and fuzzy.

Sacred Indigenous site on Sunshine Coast defaced with religious message.

a power tool was used to carve the words “Jesus saves just ask him” into a section of rock at the base of Mt Beerwah, in the Glass House Mountains national park.

The mountain holds extreme significance to the traditional owners, the Jinibara People.

the mountain was used for sacred ceremonies by traditional owners, and was where Indigenous women gave birth.

Not bad form, especially the first “J”. Hoped there would have been something else in the photo to get size perspective. Perp probably would’ve used the tool on whoever came across him.

From other examples of aboriginal rock art I’ve seen here, the “J” word would be 2-3 metres across.

Ah, thanks.
Also it’s mentioned it’s a smallish community with a possibility of tracking down buddy. :+1:

I’m guessing they overwhelmingly vote Republican.

With the 9,437-1,212 vote, delegates — known as messengers — rejected an appeal by Rick Warren, the retired founding pastor of Saddleback and author of the best-selling phenomenon, “The Purpose Driven Life.”

Ah, yes. That’s one Samuel P. Dinsmoor, who built the Garden of Eden in Lucas. It’s quite a place.

Eh, I’d ask ol’ Rick why did he bother trying to remain associated. Utterly predictable result.

Did you see him? Looked kind of green and fuzzy to me.

Yeah, we were there about 7-8 years ago. He was certainly a bit corrupted.

And to tie things together: If you want to see a body that’s definitely corrupting…look at the Southern Baptist Convention.

The Anglican Church isn’t doing much better. Parts of it, anyway. Ugandan anti-LGBTQ law deepens Anglican Church rift on gay rights | Religion News | Al Jazeera

The previous rector at our old church had split with the Episcopal Church and opened a new Anglican Church under a Ugandan bishop.

I figured genital mutilation and child brides were okay, as long as you’re allowed to hate the gays with impunity.

It’s been literally decades since I was a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America. What are we up to now on why Episcopalions in the United States have freaked out and whole congregations left that church? Here’s what I recall:

  1. Changes to the Book of Common Prayer.
  2. Ordaining women to the Deaconate.
  3. Ordaining women to Priest and Bishop.
  4. Ordaining non-practicing Gays.
  5. Ordaining practicing Gays.
  6. Conducting union ceremonies between Gays.
  7. Conducting marriages between Gays.

Did I get those right? Did I leave anything out?

Its schisisms up and down the whole body. As recall a few years ago,

My parents Epicopal Church was generally pro gay
which made them in opposition with their Diocese which was generally anti-gay,
which was in opposition to the US Episcopal movement which was generally pro gay
which was in opposition to the world wide church which was generally anti-gay

At one more level down there were members of their church (not them) who being anti-gay were in opposition to it.

Wow, our Lutheran church* has a very “high church” liturgical service, almost Catholic-feeling. So I always assume that the churches with more casual services would be more casual about doctrine (and hatred).

Whoa, was I wrong… some of the guitars ‘n’ bongos non-denominational churches sure are xenophobic as soon as they stop playing folkie ‘praise choruses’ about love.

But our church, that looks like a European cathedral , has had an LGBTQ support group since the '90s, has ordained women and presided over marrying gays. Oh, and one of our ministers is trans.

.

*ELCA, I’ve heard of other synods of Lutheranism that aren’t as kind…

Well, the bells-and-smells churches already have something of an affinity for drag…

Ah, but you see, that’s the thing – w/o any sort of real home office laying down with authority what’s the official line, the free-form churches can be comfortably all over the place and even try to compete on who’s more hardcore “where it counts”.

“Come join us at Cornerstone Faith Fellowship! Where you can make yourself at home, let your hair down, Rock Out with the Rock(*) AND keep your children away from THOSE PEOPLE! Concealed guns welcome!”

(*ok so Jack Chick would not approve… )

Pastor Christmas wants Christians to be suicide bombers. And how does he explain himself?

“Christians need people who are ‘willing to strap bombs to their chest’ like the Muslims”- MAGA pastor Kent Christmas told his congregation last Sunday."

“…and detonate themselves while being blessed at my altar.”

Christopher Hitchins believed that “Religion Poisons Everything”. Not quite everything, Chris.
