Omnibus Religious Fucks in the NEWS

Did he also provide the loops to tie them to their belt, which was the style at the time?

The Mormons, or rather, in order not to offend them, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mormon Church could allow a bishop to waive his right of confidentiality and to send a sexual predator to prison.

But instead, they pay off the victim and the perp skates.

Just cuz.

Key points:

Good job Mormons! You had a chance to Choose the Right, and this is what you do.

Mormons aren’t bad people. I’ve had some good friends who were Mormons. My first girlfriend and her family were former Mormons (in their words, they “escaped”).

But the church itself is absolutely fucking evil.

I could say exactly the same about Catholics. I was raised Catholic (but it was useless because I’m a natural atheist), and my whole family still is and many of my friends and acquaintances, and most aren’t bad people. In fact most of them suffer and despair in the face of the fuck-ups of their Church, the Vatican and the clergy. Many have left, and more will follow, the Catholic Church in Germany is on an ever-increasing decline.

And most organized religious organizations.

I myself am Christian so it’s not like I have an anti-religion bias, but when you put together a large group of people and give them power over other people and special protections from the law, bad things are pretty much inevitable.

“Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Are they the ones who don’t do birthdays or Halloween? There was a family in my neighborhood when I was a kid like that and we all thought they were the strangest people ever. They also always dressed in “dress clothes”.

None of us played with them.

That’s Jehovah’s Witnesses.

One of my best friends growing up was a Mormon and we had fun birthday parties and would go trick-or-treating. So no.

Yes, that is a group that avoids birthdays and Halloween and the secular parts of Christmas (like gifts and decorations). My brother was involved with them for a time.

TIL they are two different entities.

The only thing they really have in common is that they both knock on doors and try to convert random people.

What they believe, how they are organized, the rules they follow, they almost couldn’t be more different.

An easy way to remember the difference:

Mormons run the state of Utah.

Jehovah’s Witnesses write The Watchtower magazine.

Heh, I grew up with a Jewish mom and a christian dad, xmas tree and menorah but no church nor shul in a neighborhood that was 99% Jewish. On Jewish holidays we got off of school, but I always wished my friends a happy holiday on the holidays that were not happy.

Atheism is so much easier and makes so much more sense.

I thought it was Seventh Day Adventists.

Damn, another one.

There is some good in all religions.

Bethany Woodruff: the actress from the Poo Pouri ads is a LDS BYU grad.

The question is does the good come because of the religious teachings, or despite them.

I was referring to not celebrating birthdays and Halloween.

IIRC, the only celebrations the JW observe are those mentioned in the Bible.

I like your style.

:+1:

Also, I’ll usually invite the Mormon kids in for a glass of water and any other refreshment I may have on hand. Nine times out of ten, they’re nice kids who are schmucked into canvassing neighborhoods far from home, and appreciate some kindness after getting dozens of doors slammed in their faces.

Jahovah’s Witnesses typically get told no thank you. And good bye.
