Reminds me of a meme I saw a while back:
It’s a funeral, and the caption reads, “we are gathered here today because your thoughts and prayers didn’t work.”

A Texas man decided it would be a good idea to dress up as the Grinch, stand in front of school, and tell kids that Santa isn’t real, but Jesus is.
What a dick.
I believe Jesus is real, and I love Santa too.
There’s a small stained glass window in a local church with an image of St. Nicholas. He is surrounded by symbols, like a ship and a bag of coins. In the lower left hand corner, lifting his hand up in greeting towards Nick , is Santa Claus. Only stained glass Santa in a church?
Personally, I don’t believe in either. I believe in the idea of Santa. I think children deserve to believe in magic and a guy who brings gifts for no more reason than 'cause he can. I think kids get to grow up in an imperfect sometimes ugly world and for a short while magic is fun and mysterious. I know many kids don’t get this because of poverty, neglect, religion, etc. But my kids experienced the magic and they and I don’t regret it. I don’t think it should be up to some self appointed yay hoo to tell them different. After all, Jesus and Santa are the same as far as reality and evidence are concerned.
I am convinced that Jesus is a myth, but I don’t stand around outside of churches or walking around town with signs proclaiming it. What other people believe in is their own business.
Feel the same about Santa. I figured it out. Especially when “From Santa” was written in my moms hand
Jesus, not too sure. Not the son of God for sure. Maybe he was just a really nice dude, and stories spread and got embelished.
Santa Claus is believed to have been born about 250 years after the death of Jesus, but while we have historical accounts of him, they were written centuries after his death. We have better evidence of the existence of Jesus. Details of the lives of both of them are difficult to corroborate and surely subject to embellishments.
Nicholas of Myra and Jesus of Nazareth both likely existed, though there’s a greater likelihood of Jesus’s historical fact than Nicholas.
From the perspective of scholarship, the Grinch guy probably has a bit of a point, though I know that’s not what he means.
I think there’s better evidence for Santa. I’ve never seen any actual evidence that Jesus/God is still around.
I have received presents from Santa. Now, some kids tried to tell me that it was my parents, but they denied that. I received presents from Santa for years, until I was told that I was too old.
It’s not strong evidence - but more than there is for Jesus still being alive
The key question is: could Santa have made it through your chimney without getting stuck? This cries for an investigation in your childhood home.
I suspect the jerk was concerned about putting the christ back in christmas. Understandable if you are of a certain kind of christian faith, but the message should be directed at the parents, not the children.
My born-again sister does not participate in any of the secular celebrations of christmas, just church stuff. She recognizes that as her very personal decision, and tries very hard not to judge other people who believe or act differently. She probably does send presents to her grandchildren (and great-grands, if she has any, which she might).
Absolutely. And as a adult I love stories about the supernatural. I don’t believe them, but some of the stories are awesome!
I was referencing two people who died many centuries ago, neither is “around”. Not even Christians believe Jesus is physically here (the “second coming” is a prophesied future event).
At least Santa’s coming sooner; just over three weeks from now.
Can we even prove there’s a Whoville?
What jumped out at me in your link is this link to a story from 2022, where a Florida cop was dressing as the Grinch and handing out onions to people who were speeding less than 5 miles over the limit.
Sort of.
That’s close enough for me!
Nicholas is one of the attendees at the Council of Nicaea. Nicholas slapped Arius for saying Jesus the Son was not equal to God the Father.
So Santa was a bully?
Sort of. He’s known to be a busybody, a snoop, a burglar, and a self-appointed avatar of karmic justice; I guess we might as well add “bully” to the list,
Krampus is just his dark alter ego.
