Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Is www.ghanacelebrities.com a reliable news site?

Sure, it’s where Ghanians all around the world get all of their celebrity news.

FWIW, Baltimore’s Fox News affiliate is confirming the perp’s ID and termination of employment.

Not sure who to trust less…

I don’t want to be too harsh on her, because she’s probably going to suffer greatly from her poor decision. But some of her quotes…

To be fair, American surgeons are far more eager to perform mastectomies (rather than lumpectomies) than surgeons elsewhere in the world. But avoiding surgery altogether is insane.

Are you sure it’s American surgeons and not American women who have the preference?

Sounds like US oncologists nowadays are more actively recommending the less invasive surgeries where possible, and patients are taking their advice.

No, relying on homeopathy is insane.

I don’t know. In cases like this, I always assume that it’s the surgeons who set the tone, and not the largely frightened, inexperienced patients - but I may be wrong.

(Full disclosure: my wife underwent a lumpectomy, along with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. 4 years in remission)

I knew somebody some years ago who relied on prayer to cure her breast cancer.

She died of it. I don’t know if that put a dent in her husband’s faith, or in hers (I didn’t know them well enough to find that out; or well enough to have any influence in the decision.)

That’s certainly possible, but she mentions avoiding getting a mammogram because she was afraid of the radiation. This is out of the mainstream, but understandable even if misguided. But this sounds like she was already on the spectrum of woo:

“My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body. I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made,” Lewis explained.
“I decided to keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way,” she shared. “Looking back on that, I go, ‘You know what? Maybe I should have.’ “

If you’re already going with toxins, you may not be receptive to difficult medical advice.

People don’t preach, she’s in trouble deep
People don’t preach, she’s been loosing sleep
But she’s made up her mind, she’s gonna keep her tumor.

She isn’t going to “suffer greatly” from her poor decision, she is 100% going to die from it, and soon. Darwin don’t fuck around.

It reminds me of the tale of the “Wellness Warrior”.

But, if we’re being honest, she’s going to be very popular in next year’s Death Pool.

When I was a young adult many decades ago, I believed in naturopathy, herbal healing, I even followed Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss, and invented my own herbal preparations, I was so into that stuff. I believed in the theory of why it showed effectiveness against everyday ills… but when I contemplated cancer from the naturopathic point of view, I realized it had nothing to offer against cancer. Old Jethro claimed red clover could beat cancer, but I could not find any way how it was supposed to work, any way for the claim to make sense, so I had to give up and admit when I was beat. Even a head in the clouds young hippie like me could figure that out…

But I never ever believed for a second in homeopathy. That shit is obvious bollocks.

Homeopathic remedies may have 0.01% truth behind them. Which makes them extremely potent.

I think women’s concerns are a large part of it. For instance, Angelina Jolie, who had several family members with breast cancer, learned that she had the defective BRCA1 gene and got preventive mastectomies, with no actual diagnosis of cancer.

Jolie’s announcement of her mastectomy attracted widespread publicity and discussion on BRCA mutations and genetic testing.[258] Her decision was met with praise from various public figures,[259] while health campaigners welcomed her raising awareness of the options available to at-risk women.

Well, they need to be diluted some more, get that truth percentage up!

What’s the homeopathic treatment for drowning?

A 10C dilution of oxygen in water.

I do believe you left out quite a few zeros and one too many ones.

Cram a vacuum hose with a crevice tool down the victim’s patient’s throat.

I believe you left out quite a few zeroes and inserted one too many ones.

Cram a vacuum hose with a crevice tool attached down the vicetim’s patient’s throat and turn the machine on and let it run until the lungs are completely empty of water and air.
