Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 2)

Or just really invested in the idea of getting away with his crimes. Lotta psychos are like that. The smart ones tell a good story. The dumb ones (trump, pillow guy, banksman-fried, etc.) don’t. In either case they fully expect you and everyone else to believe their version of events.

Whether that rises to the level of “delusion” is a question of professional terminology I’m not qualified to answer. But it does speak to a persistent attitude that truth / reality is whatever I say it is.

I was in the audience some years ago when Kurt Petermeyer told us that if all his available inspectors visited every manufacturing facility in his jurisdiction, it would take thirty years.

There was an articles in the NYTimes (gift link below) about this. There’s not enough Federal inspectors and they’re underfunded in any event.

A lot of companies basically wash their hands of it by hiring private, independent auditors, but of course if they’re being hired by the companies they are to audit, the incentives are high to do quick, insufficient inspections and not to rock the boat too much.

The companies get to claim their “independent” auditors did not find any violations while not spending a lot of money doing so. Meanwhile, labor and food safety violations abound until or even after tragedy strikes.

I think the judge in the extradition case summed it up properly.

After a protracted court battle, Judge Norman McFadyen of Edinburgh Sheriff Court ruled in August that the extradition could move forward. The judge called Rossi “as dishonest and deceitful as he is evasive and manipulative.”

Which judge’s comments are not far off the DSM definition of “psychopath”.

bolding mine

within MINUTES???

ever tried to “time” minutes (plural!)??

this is so easy to solve:

if your company wants private auditors, you have to send a requirement to fed. agency ABC, they will receive the funds and randomly assign you one out of the 100 or so registered private auditors in their pool. The auditors will get paid by agency ABC, so no direct econ. link between auditors and company to be audited.

Voilá - no longer any “perverse incentive” system …

Or… and you can call me crazy for having this idea - we could cut out the middleman and have this thing called a ‘government’ complete with proper bureaus, divisions, and such, properly fund it via fees and taxes, and make them responsible for doing the stuff like regulating and addressing child labor and food safety

Yeah, that’s crazy talk.

If I was King, this factory would become government property, to be sold off to any unrelated entity that wants to process chickens or turn the property into a theme park. 100% of the management to be fired on day 1, for cause, (no unemployment or severance) rank and file to be paid their normal wages by the current ownership until the auction is complete and operations resume.

If he’s on trial for rape, I’m waiting for his story about how that DNA got . . . there.

My agency has a problem (and I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens to OSHA as well), but our safety compliance folks get hired, trained, and then leave to later be hired on as a safety consultant for some company or another because they know what inspectors are looking for and how to evade them.

I mean, you have wait a couple of years after leaving public employment before you can be hired by anyone you previously had regulatory power over (conflict of interest laws), but it’s not very long and what you learned will still apply.

Also, it doesn’t help that your pay working for the government is much less than you’d make in the private sector, and everyone you have to inspect hates you (to the point of violence at times), and you’re constantly having to respond to situations where people are injured or killed, often in horrific ways.

It’s no wonder we have bigger turnover in that group than anywhere else in my agency, and it’s no wonder there aren’t enough nationally in that line of work to meet the demand. It’s really shitty and unrewarding work. The inspectors I know who did it for a long time only do it because they believe they’re saving lives. Most people won’t put themselves through that out of altruism.

I can’t seem to find an example online but there has been at least one attempt to explain away DNA as “it must have gotten there while she was swimming!”

Yeah, I’m no lawyer but it seems to be the best defense for a rapist would be, “the sex was consensual,” not “It’s a case of mistaken identity.”

It was fake DNA! Someone got ahold of my DNA, then added it to someone else’s blood sample and stripped away the original DNA from THAT!!

This was a plot point in not one but TWO tv shows I have seen.

Well, I saw a tweet today from some very stupid white person married to a stupid white person who is claiming that the covid vaccine turned the baby in her belly into an Asian baby.

Yep, that explanation seems plausible.

My Step-daughter is an independent auditor and is very meticulous. She doesn’t pull punches.

Slightly more plausible than the virgin birth. Looks like someone got caught screwing around.

Maybe the baby isn’t hers.

[straight face]

Since he said that those tattoos were snuck onto him, I was thinking he’d claim that the DNA from the rape kits had been deviously inserted into him. I was wondering where he would say it was inserted.
