Sometimes I genuinely worry about that guy - he really seems to think that the world is out to get him for being a white guy. I suppose it’s understandable - at least this way it means the world gives a damn about him - but the harsh reality is that no one cares what he thinks one way or the other and he’s certainly not important enough to bother persecuting.
I suspect he (Reddy Mercury) is a genuine example of the paranoid style of the Trump/Fox/RW media amplified WWC. Who may or may not actually be uncomfortable with what he’s been turned into. See this post in his bio/confessional thread for what I’m talking about: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=20455632#post20455632
As folks so often say in relationship or cow-orker threads: When someone tells you who they are, it’s your obligation to listen. It’s certainly in your best interest.
Not that we care deeply about RM as an individual. But that there’s another 50+ million Americans deeply steeped in the same Kool-Aid and drinking more every day. Understanding them is a key prereq to combatting them.
RM is (one of) our window(s) into their collective psyche.
He reminds me of Valteron (I think - one of those people with a V name) who lived in quivering, hysterical terror of Muslims taking over the Western world, something which also isn’t happening. As you note, some of these people get all their information from the sensationalist end of the media and start to believe that the end of the world, in one form or another, is nigh.
In fairness, the guy said: “I’m broke, no rocket scientist, and my car’s a rat-trap. I’m stuck with this. Gimme any hints here.” And the first couple responses were “go away” or “get a new car”.
Then we wonder why we have so few new members.
“Try cleaning your battery connections” is always good cheap advice on a car having queertrons. Nobody bothered. As is “take the car to a car parts store, they can test the battery and alternator for free.” Nobody bothered.
Instead we got a pile-on. Something is wrong in that thread and IMO it’s not the OP.
I like the idea of recruiting dark-skinned Israeli Jews to spy on terrorists. It’s a wonder it hasn’t already been done. If it wasn’t for the fact that they sport yarmulkes they’d be completely indistinguishable from swarthy Arab terrorists.
Silver lining is the guy who posted some valuable information about the moon in GQ which the ordinary person would never know unless they did post-graduate work in astrophysics, namely the mind-blowing fact (his words) that the same side always faces the earth, and we never see the far side from earth. This is a rare and awesome thing that has probably never happened before anywhere in the universe that is mind-blowing to know. I still can’t get over it. Also the moon is older than the earth, and all the craters are the same depth. Also, it’s made of green cheese … no, wait, I mean, also it’s “hollowed out”, so that if you hit it just the right way it either rings like a bell or chimes like a gong; Silver lining is not sure which.
Silver lining also offers us political observations along similar lines, like the fact that Trump has done more wonderful things in 6 months than Obama did in 8 years. He is truly a source of awesome information that you’ll find nowhere else.
It’s rare that I disagree with you,** LSLGuy**, but no, the first response was reasonable if somewhat curt, in response to an OP that stretched credibility and, if true, revealed the writer to be a dangerous idiot. The OP immediately came on with a major attitude problem. After getting a second reasonable response from Chronos, the OP said “Thankyou for showing the calibre of the wankers and dickheads on this site.” He wasn’t exactly inviting courteous interaction.
Reddy was a prime candidate for my “Ignore” list which is saying something – my “Ignore” list is highly exclusive and you have to be really, really special to get on it. Good to see that he will now be spending more time with whatever the hell he spends time with when he’s not trolling the Internet.
