Holy shit, you’re right. :o
I just assumed he was hiding from vanity searches.
You know, if a mod could change my misspelling, that would be great.
Gosh, is it weird for a white person to be friends with an African person?
Spare me your racist slant on life, bitch.
Well, this is feeling all femme jean-y now.
Doesn’t matter which way it’s spelt; it still translates to this.
Nah, I doubt that femmejene hangs out on that body builder’s forum. (I googled the name from the original thread title, thinking that it was a newbie Doper, but the only hits for that name were in the bodybuilder forum. The “friend” started a thread there with the new Dope subject line–but most of his posts are about farting.)
It would seem that drad dog has added suicide by mod to his list of things to do this week. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=839725.
Perhaps he’ll get cold feet. Perhaps he won’t. Enquiring minds can hardly wait.
Tick tock…
A random nobody on a small message board posting antique clock noises is supposed to be meaningful?
I was giving MinnesotaBorn&Raised the benefit of the doubt because they had been here since 2014, but then I decided to look at the posting history. He was a one-and-done poster for close to 3 years of that time, there is one arguably racist post, and there is a post about farting.
Now, for those who didn’t catch this post early, originally he had cut and pasted the wrong text and made the subject line something like “SlickDude555, Registered User Join Date: Apr 2017 Age: 25 Posts: 19 Rep Power: 0.” As I mentioned earlier, I was curious if SlickDude555 was the name of a new Doper and googled the name, which led me to that bodybuilding forum. At the time, glancing over the posts I was thinking this was the “friend” posting, but on a closer look, it is MinB&R himself. When he copy and pasted the registration info, he had meant to copy/paste the title to this thread. The body of the text in the SD thread seems to be an exact copy/paste, too. His farting thread here is a copy/paste, too. As is his thread here about Facebook. And I see that he is called SlickGamer over at GameFAQs.
Huh. I never realized before that that is a real problem with on-line discussions: you can’t tell when one side has already finished with it and walked away.
I mean, in Real Life, it’s obvious. John has said whatever he had to say, and walks away. If Bill then continues to speak he just looks like an idiot talking to himself, especially if his reply is coming hours later. But on line? The gap doesn’t matter, it likely just means it’s been that long since Bill logged in.
No wonder back’n’forth, tit for tat type arguments seem to go on forever. Maybe we need a new convention to cover this.
Or, I know! We could adopt the one walkie-talkie users have. When you’ve delivered the ABSOLUTE LAST THING YOU INTEND TO SAY on a subject, end it with “Over and OUT.”
But we’ve had so many posters claim to do that and then slink back with one more comment… then another…
Remember the paper towel roll thread? “Well, since no one’s taking my flounderings seriously, then I’m leaving!”
[tempus fugits a bit]
“Well, I left… to go to the store, but now that I’m back and I see how many people have mis-construed my innocent defense of sexual aggressors, I just have to add…”
I disagree. But I’ll let you have the last word on the subject.
Heh!
Yes, that is the root of it, I guess: people who are unable to allow someone else to have the final word.
Your opponent believes X, while you are sure Y is true, and you have five really convincing arguments for why Y is right and X is wrong. So you make your points. But your opponent persists in clinging to X and posts about it. So you decide, hmm, I guess I didn’t state my reasons firmly enough, and give them again.
And repeat, cycle after cycle. Meanwhile everyone else reading that thread has long ago decided which side of X/Y they come down on and sincerely wish you guys would just give it up already. (Or is that just me?)
It’s not a problem when the thread is about some narrow topic – Which version of Doctor Who is better? The onlookers can just stop reading the thread when they’ve had enough. But these sort of arguments in the omnibus threads are a drag. Do I stop reading “mini-rants” because two posters have gotten into a battle to the death over something?
Maybe we could develop a custom. Like, if a long-standing fight has developed, but there’s only 2 -3 - 4 people posting about it, they get told to take it to a separate thread?
You must be devastated now that such a personage as octopus has called you a “random nobody”-once word gets around it is almost inevitable that the rest of the internet will respond with "Octopus who??
It was tentacles, all along.
You were the kid who told on everybody in grade school, I bet.
Soo–exposing a troll in a thread about trolls is a negative behavior?
And you were the kid who made fun of the hall monitors.
As one of the fucking hall monitors;), I personally appreciate the information provided by people in this thread, which has helped bring to my attention and dispose of quite a few trolls and socks. The identifications aren’t always correct, but I does help us in keeping the board a largely troll-free environment. I’m surprised that you apparently do not support this goal.
