I got the impression that it was not so much a comment or two on her lunch as an ongoing daily assault that had no end in sight. Can you tell you boss to knock it the fuck off? Some, perhaps. Others you may be forced to go over them.

I don’t care if her delicate sensibilities are offended by a mouse fart in a distant storeroom. If HR chose not to intervene and protect her from comments about her dietary habits, it’s because they had a good reason to assume that a happy and successful office culture needn’t be derailed by a squeaky wheel.
Pretend you are on a jury. Do you award damages to the whiner? If you set this precedent, how will you prevent every whiner from single handedly bankrupting every business simply because they can’t even?

My take on that cluster is that you’re being taken to task not for disagreeing, but for the way that you disagreed. There is no active campaign here to evict dissenters, just people bitching about behavior they perceive as rude.

Perhaps after NC quit HR looked to the other employees for corroboration of NC’s exit interview dump. Finding enough corroboration they axed the boss. Too late for NC, but justice in a sense. Which would *really *enrage a harasser.

The fact several of us have pointed out that HR took NC’s side seems to be printed in invisible electrons. All the itemized responses somehow skip that particular sentence.

Interestingly, as of right now neither **PCarolinus **nor **johnod **have been banned. I don’t recall which was the one offering to sue, but I would have expected whichever it was to get banned immediately after the thread disappeared. Unless it was some third name I missed.

I knew reporting that would get some attention. Talk of legal action makes TPTB extremely nervous.
