There has been speculation about long-dormant posters starting posting again being the result of an earlier database hack. I’ve just noticed user “Jasmine.” Nothing that he/she has said in the past few days has been remotely trollish, but there is a 16 year gap in posting! Could be the same poster, but those giant gap posters seem odd.
Surely gonna be cornfielded soon, so just a note that there is temporarily a poster here named WANK_ME_GENTLY_W_A_CHAINSAW. (Who bumped a 14-year dead thread with a rant.)
I’m not “long dormant”-I’ve just been kinda tired lately. Give a guy a break, whydon’tcha?

One such claim recently was made here.
In that case at least it was blatantly obvious that it wasn’t a hacked account, sock or long-dormant troll. It was just a poster who hadn’t posted in a while posting again.
No specific thread, just various posts here in OTRU where there is mention of posters who had made only a few posts many years ago suddenly start posting again, possibly saying trollish things or asking weird questions. Some speculate that they might be new people using old accounts gleaned from a hack years ago. Search function isn’t likely going to pin down the individual posts for me.
(To reiterate, the poster I mentioned today isn’t doing anything trollish, it just seems odd for them to post a couple of dozen posts, wait 16 years, then come back making multiple more posts over the past few days.)
I think it’s a matter of possibility vs probability.
If someone appears ,after a decade of inactivity, and bumps a shithead thread that had died to the second page you really wonder what woke them up? Coma or nitwit. Definitely the latter.
It’s possible that said returning nitwit really is just doing what a nitwit does in a nitwit world, but it’s more probably the said nitwit was an account hijack. As in could have bought an old computer, whatever, from the original account holder. Old backups with apps all having common passwords? Either way, the nitwit part is correct.
When I started reading this gem from Starving Artist, I briefly thought I had underestimated the guy, since it appeared that he had a good sense of humor and a knack for parody. Such is my unfamiliarity with extreme forms of stupidity that it took a moment for it to sink in that this guy was being totally serious. Turns out, he’s a complete raving loon, utterly incapable of rational thought. He adds even more here. Apparently his far-right politics is merely symptomatic of some serious dementia wherein he’s incapable of rational thought.
Jackmanni had a good comment about it. I don’t always agree with him because of his professed childlike faith in the total honesty and altruism of multinational corporations and their lobbyists, but he nailed it about Starving Artist:
