On the clock - 2008 NFL Draft

WOW!!!

I love Chris Johnson, but that’s a shocker. The Titans are pretty deep at that position, strange move. Why wouldn’t they get Vince Young a pass catcher here?

Wow, the RB run has started. Who’s next? Kevin FUCKING Smith?

On the plus side, Roethlisberger is looking at another 50 sacks.

I’m not concerned about the Ravens or Bengals. The whole Flacco thing seems similar to Boller, both in terms of the trade and type of player. The LB isn’t going to turn around the Bengal’s defense.

But Pittsburgh’s running game gaining another dimension scares me.

Thanks for starting the run on RBs after the Steelers snagged one with great value assholes!

I think the Panthers gave up too much for Otah, but they need help at O line and Fox and Hurney really should be worried about getting back to the playoffs this year so I think they were willing to give up a lot to get two first rounders.

I thought Tennessee would grab Thomas, who was supposed to go about 15 picks ago - or even Young’s ex-teammate Sweed. Nobody likes the wideouts in this draft at all. Does Seattle need one, or should Thomas and Sweed and Jackson walk over to the nearest highway with signs reading “Will catch passes for food?”

I think it’s because the WR class is so iffy and so close (they’re all kinda clumped together in my mind) that the Titans think they can get a first round talent in the second round. It does kinda make sense. Had Devin, or Limas, or anyone else gone beforehand, they may not have waited, but now they can wait and still get a guy.

As long as there’s a top tier WR (for this draft, anyway) available in the mid second for Philly, I’m fine.

Brohm is still around…
So is Merling…
And Mike Jenkins…

I’m intrigued.

Malcom Kelly has to be crying even harder at this point.

Interesting- Dallas traded for Seattle’s pick and took Mike Jenkins.

I think you should worry about the Bengals and Ravens. Maybe not next year, but soon. The Ravens were pretty savvy in getting picks, they have 2 3rd rounders and 3 4th rounders. Plus the 7th pick in the second round. Those will pay dividends. Flacco is obviously a question mark, like every rookie QB, but they are giving up on Boller which is positive progress. As for the Bengals, they still have a talented offense and finally paying attention to defense will make them less of a pushover. Remember how many points you needed to beat them last season.

Dallas picked up two playmakers in the first round. I’m not so much liking the idea of facing them twice this coming season. Are they not optimistic about PacMan Jones coming back?

Damn, there goes Jenkins. And, since he’s a cornerback, I have to listen to Deon flap his gums again.

Fuck, I’m shooting myself.

Dallas is having an excellent draft.

Merling is a heck of a value right now but I don’t see the Texans going to the DL right here. Probably going for a CB.

ETA: Hmmm…they took another Tackle. That position is getting thin.

ETA2: I hope Merling doesn’t end up with the Packers. Flowers is probably going to be their pick.

Seattle has to be the first team to take a WR, right? Maybe the top TE?

Has it been announced what the Ravens gave up to get back up to 18?

I agree that the first trade was savvy, but I’m not concerned about them too much generally. They’re entering a period of rebuilding. Their new coach doesn’t sound like anything special, Ogden is done, Ray Ray is old, they have nothing at QB. I was more worried that they’d land Brohm because he seems more NFL ready. Flacco is a huge project - never played a BCS team, rose late based on having a strong arm. Sounds like Boller part 2.

The Bengals are falling apart in terms of team cohesion. Their tackles, formerly a strong point in their offense, are aging and beat up. Rudi looks finished. Their defense isn’t going to get much better this year.

I don’t mean to completely discount them, but neither team is going to be that successful this year. Their first round picks haven’t changed my mind. Flacco sounds like he might delay them fixing their QB position for another few years. It sounds like Pittsburgh got the best player - not just the best value - drafting 15 picks later.

Chris Berman really loves to hear himself talk. What a blowhard.

I’m starting the think the best move for the Bears at this point is to sit on their hands and take the best WR left when their 2nd rounder comes along. I’m not sure Henne is the answer and I know Brohm isn’t.

I think Holmgren fell in love with the buffett at the USC Pro Day and took this guy just to ensure a return trip. No way he’s better than Merling if a DE is your need.

ETA: 49ers have to sprint up to take Merling here.
ETA2: Balmer makes sense with the 3-4 switch. Didn’t realize that.

Kind of a reach for Seattle. Interesting pick. Was Phillip Merling caught with meth or something?
