Omnisicient, what don’t you like about Brohm? Is there a specific reason? Last year he was projected as the top QB prospect. After Petrino left he had to adjust to a new head coach. Just curious.
Didn’t Pittsburgh switch to a 4-3? Is Mel Kiper drunk?
He’s got a potato arm. Total system QB. He’s Alex Smith all over again. He’s average sized and simply can’t make all the throws. He’s accurate which is good and he could be a decent game manager somewhere, but not a franchise guy.
I haven’t heard anything about this. You sure you’re not the one having a smart cocktail?
I agree about his arm strength, but I think he is very good game manager, and like you said, very accurate. Maybe more like Chad Pennington than Alex Smith.
I actually had typed “Chad Pennington/Alex Smith” when I started that reply. I agree that Pennington is probably his ceiling. However, I’m one of those people who don’t see that as a particularly good thing. You get game managers in the 3rd round, not the 1st IMHO.
ETA: After some thought, Kyle Orton is actually a really good analog for Brohm. The Bears got him in the 4th round and that’s probably where Brohm belongs, his value is inflated because of all the hype Louisville/Bobby Petrino/Michael Bush got 2 years ago. I think that high rating last season was the flawed one, not this years, and the better QBs available this year helps scouts realize it.
The Eagles traded a 4th rounder for Lorenzo Booker of the Dolphins. Booker is a tools guy with speed, really good hands, quickness, and return ability. Good depth pick, but he hasn’t shown anything to really prove he can get away from his injury concerns, and he’s pretty small to ever be a feature back. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one interested in this.
I’m surprised the Jets liked Keller over Fred Davis.
The Giants do the predictable thing and take S - Kenny Phillips. I’m wating for Ellis’ commentary.
Shouldn’t we all take a moment mourn the Pats would-be 1st round pick?
I wonder if the Cowboys will trade up to get a WR. Hmmmm…
My 'phins are up agsin. So many holes to fill! I always think you build with lineman (offensive and defensive), but any playmaker is needed. A WR, perhaps? And their DBs are really thin.
ETA: And it is indeed a defensive lineman. I’m always happy with those line picks; the best place to start building a team.
Looks like they might not need to.
Merling looks like a really nice fit for the 3-4 Defense and a hell of a value to the Dolphins.
Er… except he played in a completely different system last year, and put up better numbers than he ever did in Petrino’s pass-happy offense.
I am so very happy that the Bucs didn’t take Devin Thomas. I’ll take Talib and his weed suspensions over Thomas, who’ll probably never see an NFL field outside a four-receiver set.

So in review: nobody could have expected all these trades, Merling and Rodgers-Cromartie slipped into the second round, as did all the WRs and Brian Brohm - although I think most mock drafts didn’t have him going in the first round anyway.
Um, raise your hand if you had Donnie Avery as the first WR off the board…
Donnie Avery, huh??
I had James Hardy as the first WR. Thought he’d go to the Bucs, though.
Picks coming in fast and furious at the top of the second round!
-
Dolphins
DE - Phillip Merling, Clemson -
Rams
WR - Donnie Avery, Houston -
Redskins
WR - Devin Thomas, Michigan State -
Chiefs
CB - Brandon Flowers, Va Tech
Have to agree with Kiper, the Chiefs are having an excellent draft so far.
The Packers have to be a little pissed that Flowers just came off the board. They probably go with Tyrell Johnson or Fred Davis here, unless there’s another trade back for someone to grab Henne.
I know its easy to overlook the Cardinals, but still…
Run on WRs going on right now. The Eagles are gonna end up with a FB…
