On the clock - 2008 NFL Draft

If he’s there when the Bears are drafting I’ll do backflips.

Heh, the Packers draft the white WR. Color me shocked! Guess they needed someone to pick up the slack for jersey sales from Favre.

ETA: Scanning the rest of the 2nd round, Henne will almost certainly be there when the Bears are drafting barring a big trade. Not sure how I feel about that.

Huh. Just found out the Cowboys traded starting ILB Akin Ayodele and back-up TE Anthony Fasano to Miami for a 4th rounder. I hope there were some conditional picks there for next year. At least it helps out the SalCap some this year, but we’re probably going to need another TE late in the draft. Less of a log-jam at LB, too. Maybe Carpenter can get some more time on the field.

I guess the guy who everyone sneered at for putting Flacco at #17 in our mock draft wasn’t far off.

I’m reading the Ravens’ scout board. Mmm, melty. They know they just landed Boller II.

That was one of their big FA acquestions.

That’s just so wrong.

Not happy with the Jets pick of a TE in the first. Chris Baker is a monster; he’s a decent blocker and he makes crazy freak circus catches all the time. Plus he’s got good size and speed. Complete waste of a pick IMO.

I was pissed when the Chargers snaked CB Antoine Cason at 27; I really wanted him bad at 31. Fuckin’ Chargers.

Giants take Kenny Phillips, eh? Oy. It surely didn’t help switching over to ESPNews and hearing Merril Hodge kill him for a solid minute. Just beat the hell out of him in every aspect of the game. Then Mini-Mel gets the mic and says that while he had to downplay Merrill’s hatred of Gholston, he had to agree that Philips sucks shit and will never, ever be any good. Thanks, guys.

I would much rather have gotten Tyrell Johnson if they were dead set on getting a safety in the first. But really, I didn’t want a safety on the first day at all, and instead stick with BPA. Oh well. Jerry Reese made most of his hay in the later rounds last year, so hopefully he can do it again tomorrow.

Oh yeah, and for those of you convinced Shockey was going to be traded, didn’t you read the OP?

heh.

No. There are rumors that they’re going to start steering personel decisions in that direction because that’s what Tomlin is comfortable with, but there’s been no announcement like that.

3-4 teams tend to play a lot of 4-3, though. Often a third of the snaps or more.

Uh-oh, just read that the Shockey deal is still in play with the Saints’ second rounder. (Currently on the clock.) I have to believe that rumor is just a joke; it’s floating around the Giants mb, but then again it’s just a gaggle of morons over there.

You mean, one of their big FA acquisitions was a Defensive Lineman…

The ESPN guys were discussing why the Saints should sweeten the pot to get Shockey.

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO!!!

If they are able to make the Saints up their offer a shade they have to consider it. There are some excellent WRs on the board that could help the Giants right here and a couple 1st round worthy DEs.

Buffalo probably goes WR here, right?

The Bills have to feel pretty good that WRs slid after passing on Thomas in the first round. there are 3 or 4 guys equally good left for them here and Hardy fits that role that Thomas did opposite Lee Evans.

ETA: Hey, got another one right!

See, I should know better than to listen to the morons on ESPN or the Giants mb. Shockey was never going to be traded.

On preview: Giants don’t need a WR. Did you not see Steve Smith in the playoffs? Conventional wisdom says that rookie wide receivers need a couple years to adjust to the NFL, and even worse for him is that he got hurt and missed something like the first 10 games of the season. Yet he still came up big.

And Toomer isn’t as good as Marvin Harrison or Terrell Owens, but he’s the same age and still makes those crazy catches, so I’d say he still has some life left. I’ve always hated how doesn’t catch the ball with his hands, but he isn’t the franchise record holder for catches by luck.

Based on the WRs take 3 years to develop argument, had they taken one of the top guys left they could have cultivated him for when Toomer was finally done. Smith is showing signs and Tyree is there, but when you are talking luxury picks this makes as much sense as any. They need to fill guys in behind the aging Strahan too.

Fair enough, but if they’re going to reach in the early rounds, I’d lean more toward Mathias Kiwanuka than Sinorice Moss, y’know?

All right here’s Philly. Can’t see an option here other than WR, and there are some good values still left. I think DeSean Jackson is the only one I wouldn’t want as he doesn’t fit their system. We’ll see!

Jesus another trade. Do the Eagles think they don’t need to improve? Are they convinced they are the best team in the league?

What about Kelly? With that 40 speed he doesn’t seem like much of a threat. As a Cowboy fan I’d love for the Eagles to get him.

Or maybe the Eagles just won’t select anyone this year…

Bears are coming up. Not sure what I want here.

Hate Brohm. Iffy on Henne. Everyone seems down on Sweed and Kelly at WR. No RBs of value at this spot. Maybe the best guard on the board? Roy Schuening is where I’m leaning. Now that Tyrell Johnson is off the board Safety isn’t a option.
