On the clock - 2008 NFL Draft

Kelly is a big receiver who can create separation, which is exactly what the Eagles need. They get punished by press coverage nearly every game. The Eagles don’t run on third and short, and so they need someone who can create enough space to catch that slant or out route, Kelly can do that. You don’t want the Eagles to have that type of player.

The Eagles already have a quality deep threat with speed (albeit not a prototypical one), they don’t need another. They need someone to keep safeties short and give Curtis and Brown single coverage deep.

I like Matt Forte, would have liked to see him in green.

The Eagles swapped second rounders with the Vikings (four spots), and picked up a fourth for a fifth. Eh.

I really don’t like this Forte pick. He’s already had a reconstructed knee and is a 4-year player who’s got a lot of miles on him. He’s a bigger back and will take more hits as a result, he’s too similar to Benson. Making things worse is that he’d have definitely been available at the top of the 3rd round.

Strange pick. Ugh, Angelos should never be allowed to draft a RB again.

Man, if you had a drinking game where you took a drink every time the Eagles traded down…

So the Packers get an extra 4th rounder and miss out on Merling and Brandon Flowers.

Grrrrrr.

Although I like Jordy Nelson. 6’3" 4.49, nice production and great hands, he’s a reach there. If you’re going for size and speed, Limas is taller and faster.

Bah.

Luckily I have faith in TT. He knows better than I. Still, I want Tyvon Branch, Tashard Choice, Kendall Langford, and Matt McGlynn. They get me those guys and I’ll be happy.

Looks like the Eagles are taking a DT here, Trevor Laws? Need position, don’t know who this is though.

Looks like he’s a motor guy who never gives up and makes a lot of tackles because of it. Would be rotated in and gives the Eagles a much stronger DL, especially against the run. I like it, I like the sound of his skills.

Good one!

I’m happy to see him in a Bears uniform. My aging grandma can chase him down.

I heard the pick on Eagles radio on their website. I guess on second reading, my comment sounded like I was guessing who it was, but I had already heard.

Boy o’ Boy was my WR rankings WAAAAAAAYYYY off.

Donnie Avery
Jordy Nelson
James Hardy
Eddie Royal
Jerome Simpson

I NEVER would have predicted that. Never.

Although I’d like to point out that in the mock draft, I had the Rams taking Donnie Avery. Just one round later. Which is where he could have still be gotten.

Eagles are back on the clock and they might actually take a player again! I would be happy with a WR or a LB, possibly Dan Connor.

…and its Desean Jackson, WR.

I’m not sold on him. I see him getting pushed around a lot and his speed being mitigated by press coverage on the outside, throwing the tight routes of the West coast offense off. He’s a great kick returner, though, which the Eagles desperately need, but it’s just not enough. I don’t like it, but the talkings heads seem to, so what do I know?

Plus he’s wearing sunglasses indoors on TV. Christ, good luck with this idiot.

He reminds me of the whole “Rocket” Ismail, Santana Moss genre of wide receiver. I don’t see him being all that impressive.

He might stick as a return specialist, but I can’t see him doing anything remotely interesting on the offensive side of the ball. I’ll be surprised if he passes twenty catches in a season in three years.

And now I’m hearing that he’s been a big character problem at Cal, and he’s had problems with his coaches and teammates. Great.

Usually I like The Sporting News coverage, but man their draft guide is terrible this year. An ‘A’ rating for recievers? (Their top 3 have yet to be drafted) Brandon Albert in the 3rd? Tyrell Johson in the 6th? Ufff.

Jim Zorn is getting himself some targets for the West Coast system.

So the Redskins have taken two Wide Receivers in the second round? Is that right, Devin Thomas AND Malcom Kelly?

I’m intrigued.

Only 5 more picks until the Packers trade down again. …

I think the Bears ought to put together some picks to get back into this round and give Henne a shot. At this point he’s worth the risk and he at least puts some pressure on the terrible twosome. If he’s a bust, at least you tried.
