Maybe not, but suppose the Ravens were so eager to trade down and avoid that salary that they gave the Jags the pick for a really good price. The Jags might have just seen it as a chance to get the guy at the top of their board who wouldn’t have been there at 26.
ETA: Um, the Ravens got 2 3rds and a 4th rounder. That shoots my theory in the ass. The Jags got screwed in order to reach for a guy a little.
Jax gave up a lot to get that pick. I’d love to be in a “war room” to know the appraisal placed on these players. Presumably, they had Harvey ranked really high (although it doesn’t seem like anyone else did).
Maybe it wasn’t that he was ranked so highly, but all the other players at their original position were ranked much lower than Harvey. I can see moving up to get the last top tier player at a position if you know you can’t get better than a second or third tier at your original spot.
So the prediction here is that the Pats will take the top CB on their board, probably McKelvin. Then the Bills will take Devin Thomas out of Mich St. Then we see if the Broncos go RB or OT.
ETA: Pats just took Jerod Mayo. Damn it. This is a brilliant pick. Mayo is a perfect fit. Those CBs were going to be busts and the Pats were smart enough to avoid it…shocker.
This Under Armor commercial is on uberrepeat mode and it’s killing me. Ugh.
On the other hand, that Jets montage amused the hell out of me. If I was a Jets fan I’d never go to the draft.
Pats pick is in, and it’s… Jerod Mayo. I don’t think too many people had him going that high; the SDMB had him going to Tennessee at 24.
There seems to be universal agreement that my Bills will take Devin Harris from MSU.
You know, what if the Bills kept Nate Clements and Antoine Winfield? They’d have a decent-at-worst secondary now. Bah. Then this pick wouldn’t be needed.
OK, the Bills surprise by not taking Thomas but he was a reach there. Probably the right move.
The Broncos take Clady, wish they’d have taken Stewart as many predicted because that would have helped the Bears chances at Albert, but thankfully he’s still there.
Now…do the Panthers crush me by taking Albert one pick earlier. The agony.
Clements got a ton of money, though. The Bills are always good for a draft surprise, you can say that for them. Maybe they see some good receivers somewhere else.
